I like to patronize a business several times before I sit down and write a review for it. You may have a great experience the first time you go and even the second time but sometimes on the 3rd or 4th visit, the great service you originally had goes downhill--that is not the case with this shop. I've been here several times for various things from an oil change to installing new motor mounts and each time I come in, the service is just as good as the first time I was here. I'm not from Florida, we moved down here from NYC so I had not owned a car in well over a decade. I bought a used one and then brought it in to Honest-1 Auto for an inspection to see if there was anything major wrong with it. The first person I dealt with was Willie Vazquez, the General Manager. I spoke to him over the phone, he got me in right away. I should've brought the car in before I purchased it, luckily there wasn't anything majorly wrong with it but I didn't know that. If Willie were dishonest, he could've said there was something wrong with it and I probably would've gone ahead and paid to have it 'fixed' because I would not have known any better. I appreciate his honesty. I also met George Maajoun the Service Advisor. He's straightforward with prices and cost of labor etc. I've never gotten blindsided by a last minute extra charge or "added fees". My repairs always cost exactly what George tells me they will cost. I appreciate that. It's hard to budget for car repairs when the shop you're dealing with keeps upping the cost, that won't happen to you here. This shop is the most honest one I've ever been to! An honest auto repair shop is like a 'Rare White Elk', they exist but the chances of ever encountering one are slim. Happy to report you have a 'Rare White Elk' here in Carrollwood! I would steer clear of this place. Anything but honest. The first time I tried this place, I went in because my car was making a noise. They told me I needed new tires, and alignment. Keep in mind I just put new tire on my car a year ago and I mainly work from home. I questioned the guy on why he recommended new tires when I literally got them a year ago... he said the tread was bad. I left and went to a tire shop. They said my tires are great and I just needed an alignment done and to tighten lug nuts. Never had a problem since. I went there a second time( fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me), out of desperation. My car AC stopped working and needed someone to take a look. They looked at it and quoted me a couple grand to fix it .... (Which is close to the full value of my car). I went to a different mechanic , and explained my situation. He looked at the car and kept it overnight. Minor leak that was fixed, and I was out of there for $200. "Honest" 1 wanted me to get a new compressor and evaporator and more. Then whe I asked a breakdown of how much labor costs per hour, he said it varies.... I've never herd that before. I also had a loose bolt that connects the sway bar to the suspension I asked them to tighten bc of a noise and they said that wasn't it. I went home and tightened it myself and the noise was gone. I should have trusted my gut and never went back after the first experience but I usually don't judge a place with one visit. This time I wish I had. I would not recommend this place. Please do your research better than I did when picking a place to service your car. read more

Upon bringing the vehicle to a different shop honest auto tried told me many of my suspension parts needed to replaced the other shop I brought to said they were practically brand new. I go in with a coupon for a $59.99 semi-synthetic oil change. Before I went in , I specifically did research on whether my car could take semi-synthetic, and my research said that it could. They refused to allow me to use this coupon, and told me they would only do full synthetic because that's what the mfgr. suggests, and they were afraid if anything happened to my car, that I would come back and sue them. Isn't that something that the CUSTOMER should be allowed to decide??? Instead of allowing me to choose, I was put into a situation where I had to pay a lot more to get it done right there because my car's oil viscosity was at a very low level. I'm not going there for an oil change. Take your car to Donovan's automotive on US 41 in Lutz. I know these guys and I trust them. I went to the Honest 1 on Gandy for an Oil Change. The then shop manager refused to do any other work on it. And when he did get it ( to CHANGE ) the oil his "Guy" tried to push the hood down without disengaging it. Up first then release and down. The then Shop Mgr is now the Mgr and gave me the stall when I wanted =it repaired. Said he'd take care of it and was LESS than responsive!!! #1 I was caught off guard on the $180 charge for level 2 diagnostics because it was never mentioned beforehand. I paid because I wanted to confirm the services needed on my car. Unfortunately, it was not mention of $200.27 charge being applied if services are performed at Honest-1. #2 Never assume a woman doesn't know car scan codes. Very disappointed I was told I wouldn't know or understand them. #3 They are not a "full service" since they don't service transmissions. #4 My estimate includes almost $800 for labor when it appears the engine may not need to be removed. Needless to say I was disappointed with a few things. George was very cordial on the phone and in person. Don't bother. Honesty is highly subjective here. I made an appointment to have a part (headlight lens) placed on my car. They had me driving all the way there and rudely said, as I walked in "First of all, we're not going to put that on..." Apparently, they needed to soak you by making you get the part through them at 10x the price. What a joke. read more

The Audi A6 needed a little tender loving care since the splash guard for the engine came loose. I called George up and asked him if it was convenient to bring it in today for a look see if he could help me out he said Yep bring it on down. When I arrived George greeted me and actually remember talking to me on the phone, which is always a plus. He was able to tack up the splashguard for a very reasonable fee and explained a few other things that perhaps the Audi will need down the road as far as maintenance is concerned. This car care experience was phenomenal, George was responsive reasonable to deal with and very personable. The waiting room for the shop is as nice as anyone's living room plush furniture well laid out with televisions and snacks etc. When the work was done on my car and I went out to start it up to drive home I noticed George left me a snack and a business card which of course bought a smile to my face since car care is difficult and George and his staff made it completely an honest and wonderful experience! read more

I am updating my review since the owner contacted me with a solution. He decided to give me the $41.72 back. So, I'm giving back one more star for trying to come up with a solution. I've been at honest-1 auto at least twice before and they did a great job with my husband's alternator and my oil change. I thought it would be no problem to go to them when my battery went out. I get there with a coupon that they sent to me in the mail, saying it's $10 off a service of $100. Willie tells me I can't use it for a batteries, tires, etc. Then, I pull out another coupon/check they sent me in the mail saying $41.72 for ANY service you need now or in the future. Willie tells me I still can't use it for a battery, so I just let it go. I get my car back and as I'm driving home, I notice my dashboard for the mileage is blinking, like it's starting to short out. When I get home and turn off my car and try to lock it, it's not doing anything. I try to turn the car back on and nothing was working. I had to get a tow truck the next day to take it back to them. I get my car back barely 10 minutes after dropping it off from the tow truck and he tells me the battery terminals came loose. Meaning someone the first time didn't put it on right. So, I thought I would try one more time with the coupons to see if they would help with the inconvenience of coming here two days in a row for a simple battery. I spoke to Willie again and pointed out that there is no fine print stating what he told me. I showed him on the paper that there was no fine print stating I could not use either of them on getting a new battery. He proceeded to say "Oh, it must have gotten cut off." He still wouldn't let me use them or even bother with an apology for the fact I had to come up here twice to deal with this. Too bad though because I will not be coming here again. read more

Scheduled an appointment for an oil change and A/C service. Get a call the following day no AC tech, reschedule no problem. Next day come in for oil change and ac service. Get quoted $1400 call the Nissan dealer, they're $400 cheaper. Go pick my car up, still get stuck with $79 diagnostic and they didn't even do my oil change. Now car fax says I'm over due for service for something that you guys just choose not to do in your shop. Great example of how this business gets a bad name read more

I had Honest1 replace the two back tires on my vehicle, because one of them got a tear in the sidewall. My car only had ~30k miles on it total, and I did not really need an alignment, but I am aware that it is best practice to get an alignment when you get new tires, so I agreed to the service. Prior to the alignment, I had absolutely no issues with the front tires. After the alignment, the steering wheel was off center, and the there was a very slight cyclical bumping feel/noise that was not there before. I do not drive the car that often, and did not have time to address the issues right after it was serviced. However, a few weeks later I noticed that one of the front tires was completely bald, and the other had normal wear. This was also never an issue before they performed an alignment. When I took the vehicle back to Honest1 to address the issues, they took a very blame-the-victim approach, and also tried to sell me more tires and services. They insisted that even though none of the issues had occurred prior to the alignment, that there was no possible way it had anything to do with the service they performed. They insisted that even if the two front tires began wearing at significantly different rates after the service, there was no way it had anything to do with the service they performed because the bald tire had worn relatively evenly across the tire. They also said that they wouldn't fix the steering wheel being off center, because I did not bring the issue up earlier. Their website states that they warranty all of their work, but for whatever reason I guess that didn't apply in my case. Instead of making the issues right, they offered to sell me more new tires and a diagnostic on my suspension. My family and I have had service and repair from Honest1 several times over the past few years, with no issue. Yes, they are friendly. Yes, their facilities are nice and clean. Yes, their prices are fair. However, they apparently do not do well with tire and alignment work. And, if you have an issue with a service they performed, their solution is to sell you additional products and service, not stand behind the service they performed or honor their warranty. We will never have our vehicles serviced here again. read more

I have been using H-1 Carrollwood for 3 years now, and am so happy that I found this auto repair business. Every time I call or go into the shop I am treated as a valued customer and an old friend. I have complete trust in Willie and the H-1 crew to keep my car in tip-top condition. My car is 15 years old, (it's a Toyota of course), and in great shape, so I feel the need to have mechanics who I can count on to check her over and give me an accurate report on her 'health' status. Never, have I felt that anything was recommended to me that was unnecessary to have done. At my car's age, I have been fortunate that there have been few repairs needed, other than general basic car maintenance. I feel I owe H-1 for keeping my vehicle in great condition. read more

Scheduled an appointment online 2 weeks ago and received an email confirmation. When I went in on Friday morning I was told we don't have an appointment for you. I had just received a text reminder and email reminder. I was told you don't have an appointment unless someone calls back. Why would this be? I was told you can wait 2 hours. They have 'Honest' in their name because they are no where near being honest. Spent over $3K for service and got it back with a broken transmission. This means they never road tested it after fixing a real seal engine leak or just lied. Took it back and they said they did another $600 in remedial work (which they did not charge me for) and it did nothing to fix the issue. Took it to another shop to get the transmission fixed and found out they never did the remedial work they said they did. These guys are a big rip off and do very poor work. read more

In July of 2018 I took my truck to Honest-1 Auto Care because my truck engine kept stalling on me. I was told there would be a diagnostic charge. I think it was $89. I told them fine, but please check the throttle body because someone told me that they suspected that a dirty throttle body could be causing the problem. I was reassured that the throttle body would be checked so I gave them the go ahead. The results of the diagnostic was closed looped fueling on bank 1 and 2 and camshaft sensor. They told me that the camshaft sensor was bad and needed replacing so I gave the go ahead to replace it. I left with the truck running fine for about a week and then it started stalling again and giving off multiple codes. I brought it back. I was then told I had to take it to the dealership to have the brain refaced (reset). I did that. I paid Honest -1 Auto Care $251.33 and the dealership $164.73. That's a total of $416.06 and my truck still had stalling problems. I was told by Honest-1 Auto Care that there was nothing more they could do. I then took my truck to another Mechanic. The mechanic checked my throttle body and informed me the throttle body was very dirty. He then took my throttle body apart and cleaned it very well and sent me on my way. Ever since then, my truck has been driving fine, no more stalling and no more codes. Honest-1 Auto Care is either very un-honest or very incompetent. I do not recommend them. read more

Willy then refused to provide an actual receipt for the part, claiming only that the part was an 'OE' part. This wasn't just 'on the internet' that I found. I contacted Nissan by phone and at the very best, the part price I was given by you, was heavily marked up from the MSRP. You have a phone and chose not to address this. The manufacturer's part comes with a baked in warranty. I have also checked up on the other repairs I have had done, including the distributor that still acts up. All the parts have been marked up.
