When we discovered water leaking through a recessed light, I was convinced the roof was leaking. I was pleased with my service. I hired them to come out and replace a broken exterior hose faucet. After researching a few companies I narrowed it down to two. They have me the next feeling and estimate. The rage I found to be $200-$500 depending on the difficulty of the job. On the day of service they gave me a window for 11am to 4 pm. I didn't really expect them to be there super early and much to my surprise at 10:55 I got a call that they were on the way. Two plumbers arrived and they were very professional. The replaced the outdoor faucet and interior shit off valve for $408. Total time took about 1 hour. They wore shoe covers so they didn't track up my carpets. They even cleaned up the work area. I had a basement waste pipe repair...the cost went from about 2k to about 8k with the 1k discount. Sol was a professional, the crews were great. I have only one complaint and it has nothing to do with the service but what happened AFTER the job was completed. Honest Abe must have a shared information policy that is VERY open because I have been receiving and huge amount of soliciations and emails...the police actually came to my house on some bogust information. I have not had any issues with law enforcement so to suddenly get a visit just pissed me off. So...I can speak to the service, which is great, but the policy of sharing my information was SERIOUSLY disappointing. This one fact would make me hesitate to use them again. read more

They claim to have a free estimate - both over the phone and online - but I was later told that only applied to the drive out to our home. They were extremely professional and knowledgable. They were patient and educated me about what was involved. They planned to pull permits and use no shortcuts. Bathroom remodel in the age of COVID-19... Our emergency bathroom renovation was in the design phase just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Maryland. David Collins of Honest Abe was super helpful and responsive as we prepared for the work to begin finalizing the layout for the bathroom, picking out fixtures and most importantly tile from Mosaic Tile. At the time, we didn't know what was about to hit but a week into the demo work my husband, son and I were working/schooling from home. Of course we were nervous about having people in the house given all the unknowns about the virus but we needed a working bathroom. After a few conversations about proper precautions on everyone's part the crew returned. They arrived promptly every morning, working nonstop all day and always safe, professional, courteous and tidy. We had a few hiccups along the way including the vanity we picked out but David was on top of all of it answering texts over the weekend to make sure the job was done as quickly as possible without compromising our aesthetic. The bathroom is absolutely gorgeous and weeks later I still walk into it surprised again and again at how awesome it looks. One aspect of the job where David went above and beyond what a contractor would be expected to do was work with our insurance company. We ran into some issues with the amount we were going to receive to cover the repairs. It was a tiny fraction of what the job would actually entail. David spent time on email and the phone explaining to our insurance adjustor the work that was necessary and why. In the end we got all the money for the replacement costs and just had to spend a nominal amount out of pocket for the much needed upgrades to our old bathroom. Can't say enough good things about this company! So, hired Paul Jett Plumbing to do the plumbing work on a 1942 house with an apartment in the basement. Nothing too fancy, just move washer and dryer hook ups, install kitchen sink, dishwasher, and ice maker, put in a new hot water heater. Paul Jett TOTALLY screwed it up. His guy capped a skylight drain and let 8" of rain seep into the house, undetected for twenty days, wanted to wait a day to come uncap it, didn't want to pay for any water damage remediation, blah, blah, blah... bad guy, bad company, bad experience. Enter Honest Abe with Sol and Nick. Wow! What a difference a professional makes. They put the required cold water expansion tank on the brand new water heater and replace the cheap pvc lines with copper that Paul Jett insisted I did not need, even though AO Smith said not having the tank could void my warranty. Nick re-attached the claw foot tub foot Jett's guy knocked off and no one could get back on. And they hooked up the dishwasher (even replaced a leaky line Jett missed). They also replaced the piping coming out of the claw foot tub, as Jett's guy moved it when he rebuilt the floor he ruined when he let 40 feet of skylight water pour all over the ungrouted tile. They were in and out quick as a flash, clean, respectful, and walked me through what they were going to do, what it would cost, and what they actually did like I know what I'm doing. (I've been a property rehabber and manger for old houses for pushing ten years) TOTALLY recommend them. Totally don't recommend Paul Jett Plumbing, but wow! Honest Abe is now my go-to plumber. I have used Honest ABE for all of my plumbing needs and I couldn't be happier. They installed an indoor gas line, helped with a sewer line issue, replaced a shower drain, and helped with a toilet. Without being too cheeky, the thing that makes them stand out is how honest Sol has been with for everything. He talked me out of a very expensive plumbing job ($500-800) for an insanely cheaper ($17) option. He could have ripped me off, but instead explained the easy fix and made sure I was all set. On the day of service (s) , the lady at the front desk (I don't remember her name , was very nice ) gave me an appointment window of 9am - 2pm. The technicians called me shortly after to keep me updated on their time of arrival , just in case i had to run errands. I was very appreciative of this. Moshe has worked on my HVAC system and Sol has worked on my garbage disposal. Both technicians were honest , professional and gave detailed information on what they thought the issues were . After completion of service , they took the time to answer any additional questions and also gave advise on how to try to prevent further issues. I'll preface this by saying it only applies to the lack of organization at the office level. Because of this, I never got any of the work done. I initially had an appt for an estimate, and a week later I was called to say the new office person messed up and they needed to reschedule. STRIKE ONE. Rescheduled for 2 weeks later, then it was another 2 weeks before they could fit me in for the actual job, betw 11- 4. I was working but said I'd make it work. The day of the appt, the office calls at 9:46 to say the tech is waiting outside my house. STRIKE TWO Umm, seriously?? I said there's no way I'll make it. She said would you like to reschedule. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO RESCHEDULE??? You showed up over an hour early!!! STRIKE THREE. I said IDK, I'm pretty frustrated. She said let me put you on hold for just a minute. Bear in mind I'm working. I waited about 5 min then hung up. They haven't called back.I'm so disappointed and frustrated and wasted so much time. read more

I'd just purchased a home and 10 days later, my third floor shower was leaking into the master suite on the second floor. Abe came out quickly and identified the problem instantly. Please be appreciative of your clients' time. TL;DR -- 9AM to 2PM - 5 hour appointment window and they couldn't even honor that. They showed up at 3PM. Prices are relatively high, get your local trusted handyman to do simpler jobs if possible. ---- I contacted this firm because of all of the stellar reviews, but as with other vendors I have had less luck than most I suppose, because I feel like they dropped the ball in a couple of places. Firstly, a 9am to 2pm "appointment window" eats up the better part of a day. Remember the good old days when the service industry just made "appointments" ? Also they said they were going to email me a quote beforehand and they never did. I wasn't staying at the house the evening before so I had to get up early on my day off when I could have slept in, and deal with rush hour traffic into the city just to be there in case they arrived at 9am. Not only did they not arrive at 9am, I had to sit around all day at my house when I could have been out doing things, and THEN they called to say they would be an hour late from the END of their agreed upon appointment window, meaning they wouldn't be there until 3pm. This is unacceptable. I have decided that I will no longer do business with companies that engage in "appointment windows." I will only deal with companies that make fixed-time appointments, and show up on time. I understand some jobs take longer than others, but they already granted themselves a 5 hour window (the longest I've ever head of) and they couldn't even hack that. Further, they wanted nearly a $1000 to cut an access panel to replace a washer in order stop a dripping faucet. It did need an access panel but I got my handyman to do it all-told parts & labor for ~$400. I'd suggest other's do the same... I added a star because the gentlemen that came out were very courteous, competent, and professional (and they used shoe guards). I was impressed with them, but not the overall company. There was no pressure in purchasing a new water heater. Sol the lead plumber provided suggestions/recommendations and let me decide what was best for my unit. Price was reasonable and overall very happy with the decision I made. Install was relatively quick with no issues. Once installed Sol explained how the water heater works and the various parts attached. Very very please with the level of customer service and install work completed. If I could give less than 1 star I would. This morning I discovered a leak in my ceiling in my living room. I contacted this company based on a referral from a friend. They sent out someone who told me they would charge me 200 dollars to remove a piece of wall. That seemed ok as I know they needed to get to the pipes to see what was going on. Once he finished the investigation he told us that we could only solve our issue with a full bathroom remodel, that of course they could do for 10-15k this was an extremely disappointing experience, especially given everything going on with the COVID19 outbreak. I was already scared to invite someone into my home, but wanted it addressed as I have Small children. I feel that it was very deceptive advertising and when I contacted them and expressed my concerns I was told that they would not refund me any of the money. They removed a piece of my wall, didn't fix it and charged me $200 an absolute ripoff. Stay away! read more

I live in a residential house and had two leaks from the second floor bathrooms dripping through drywall into the kitchen below. Honest Abe was the third estimate I got for this work. By the time I was impatient to get the work done. Well they don't charge a fee to come to your house they will charge you a fee to "diagnose the problem" which is a fee separate from fixing the problem. They had to cut two holes in the drywall in the kitchen ceiling in order to determine the source of both leaks. The total cost is approximately 700+ dollars that included both the diagnosis fee and repair for each of the two leaks. When I inquired about repairs of the two drywall ceiling holes they said they could refer me to someone. Because signing up with their membership service at $19.99 per month they offered a 15% discount off today's plumbing repairs and any subsequent services through their company. Sounded like an OK deal that I accepted. Then I got an estimate to repair to drywall kitchen ceiling one was 12" x 8" the other 12" x 18". Estimate was $900. Unbelievable!. I got a local repair man to do the work for $400 total. About four months into my service membership contract I called to cancel the membership as I would no longer use such over price services. She told me since I hadn't finished the one-year membership I would owe them the 15% discounted from the original plumbing repair. So be it since the remaining number of months on the membership would've been greater than the 15% I had to pay. In any case I will never use these folks again as their estimates are astronomically high and you can get a good repairman from yelp reviews or Angie's List for substantially less. Besides they wouldn't charge a "diagnosis fee" to jack the cost before they charge you for the repairs. Too bad this company thinks this is the way you run a successful business. I generally do not enjoy paying for services that don't have a widely available industry prices. A/C Repair would fall into that category. Because of that, it took me a few months before I finally called Honest Abe to come look at my central air unit that was only blowing lukewarm air (last spring). They came out, spent about 45 minutes trying to diagnose the problem, before finally fixing a faulty valve. The guys were very nice. Late in the summer, the problem recurred, but since the summer was over, I decided to put off another service call until Spring 2015. I called Honest Abe again. They gave me an 11-4 window. They called at 10:45am saying they'd be there in 30 minutes and did indeed arrive promptly at 11:15am. They immediately checked the valve and found that to be the problem again. They fixed it. It was a $0 charge visit, and I didn't even have to remind them of their one-year service warranty. Good guys, good work. read more

Called half dozen HVAC companies listing Sunday or emergency service with none either returning our call or unable to provide same day service with one popular place offering us a service date in two weeks except Honest Abe who dispatched a technician replaced the unit's capacitor the SAME MORNING. All without a surcharge and at the going rate. Young Technician Honest Moishe even showed us how to maintain the unit enhancing its effectiveness and extending its life and saving us hundreds more. We are on a well, which posed another issue all in it self. More to know; he works with the customer, answers questions, gives useful pointers and respects the customer's wishes. Oh, HA leaves no mess to clean-up afterwards. As noted in other reviews, Honest Abe is not the least costly guy on the block. If one has experienced enough "service calls," one knows that cost also includes getting it done right the first time and on time. Abe's customers receive a solid estimate before work begins and the company works hard to stick to that. Unlike one unhappy reviewer, I experienced no problem with the time window or on-time performance. HA calls ahead to let the customer know when the tech will arrive; this is appreciated. My only suggestion is that the tech's call should announce who's calling; I won't pick-up No-ID calls due to robos. One of the main reasons I like HA is: no drama. Once again Honest Abe has come to our rescue. Fast, efficient and affordable service on the replacement of our chimney liner and cap (which we found was discounted as part of our service contract). They were able to put us on their schedule quickly. As usual, they left the worksite cleaner than they found it. Their work crew was courteous, on time, and made sure to close doors on their way in and out (not a small thing on a 90 degree + day). We have used Honest Abe for a variety of plumbing services, so when we found out that they had a chimney service we had them check out our chimney. We had known that there might be issues with the chimney since it is nearly a hundred years old, but their scope revealed falling tiles and bricks which had nearly blocked our hot water heater vent. On December 21, 2020, Richard from Honest Abe came to my house because my water heater wasn't producing hot water. I had a different company come out the day before to give me an estimate, and they quoted me just under $1000. They also billed me $115 for service that I didn't authorize for "cleaning my flame sensor and testing a few fixtures." Richard was pleasant and simply reignited the flame under my water heater (I wasn't home the previous day to lite it myself and my roommate needed hot water). Richard also stuck around for a while to see if it would stay lit, which thankfully it did. During the wait he also explained a few things to me about my water heater. It was a quick and easy stop-in, but definitely a pleasant one. I've used Honest Abe in the past and if I need a plumber in the future I'll look to Honest Abe again. read more
