Why do I go out of my way to bring my junks to the Honest Engine? Wednesday morning I received frantic texts and calls from the other half which can only mean one thing.....car issues :banghead: She tells me there is a major gas leak, her car reeks of gas, and its blowing in through the air vents. I am at work and not a lot I can do so I send a message to Jerry, owner of the Honest Engine in Henniker NH. No problem, we'll get her in and take a look and if you needed, there is a loaner car available for Andrea. Right off the bat my anxiety is lowered. About lunch time I call and Andrea tells me there is nothing wrong with the car, she must have stepped in gas when she filled it earlier in the morning because the matts reeked of gasoline. Another shop could have easily have hosed us for a couple of hundred dollars when there was nothing wrong. Instead the team at the Honest Engine put hte matts in a plastic bag and sent Andrea away with a smile on her face. Honest Engine did an inspection on my car last November, and I thought I needed brakes... when I arrived to pick it up, it was stickered, yay! I said, what about the brakes? "The brakes are good, no worries". But I did have a head gasket leak, which he said could wait until Summer, after he changed the oil. So, took it back for brakes just now, 8 months later, and they called and said, you still don't need brakes, enough left until November inspection! So I had Jerry do the head gaskets and an alignment instead of taking it to Town Fair Tire in Keene. Gave me a cool Chevy Sonic loaner for the day and I was late in returning, but they remained open for me. The bill wasn't cheap, but I'm willing to pay for great service... I have no doubts that my car is at its best, and it just turned 150k! Honest Engine has my business from now on! read more

ABS brakes were coming on when slowing down around 5mph GMC 200k miles. Before Honest Engine I brought the truck to two local mechanics in MA that weren't able to fix the issue. I went online to research and ended up speaking to Jerry who was able to answer my question and I later asked and found out that he was out of NH and said the repair would be approximately $100. I took a trip up to NH with 1 day notice and no official appointment, I was out of there in 90 minutes and the issue was completely resolved and cost me $103 which I thought was completely reasonable, especially after spending $160 on two other mechanics that weren't able to resolve the issue. I've given these guys great reviews a few times and it's usually the same thing. They just simply get to the cause of the problem quicker and get you out the door. It's basic math really. Most shops make $xx/hour, it's just their rate and there's nothing you can do about it. However, most people dont realize that a lot of shops bill you for hours or "learning on the job". Not necessarily being dishonest, but they end up finding the problem through process of elimination which ends up as billed hours. Now take Jerry and his team, they're literally experts at troubleshooting and can diagnose the problem often just from your description. Most of the parts replacements these days are relatively quick, but diagnosis can be costly, so go to the guys that just get right to it instead of "learning on the job". read more

Jerry has been my mechanic for almost 13 years now. Only once have I ever had a repair that had an issue after it was done. His response when I told him? "Well, bring it back in, let's make it right." I did, and it was done. I've even called him on a Friday evening after 5, and he happened to still be in the shop, with an issue regarding my wife's jeep. He told me to just come in, since she would be driving a long distance the next day. Got there, and 20 minutes later we were on our way home. The review from "Got S." I simply cannot believe. I don't know the particular details, but that is completely 180° from Jerry's character, I question the reviewer's honestly and credibility. Marion is a liar and a thief. Not only was the service horrible ($2000 = $700 to repair their poor work) but she milked me until I finally caught on and threatened to get my lawyer on it. Jerry was a great guy I'd known for decades and I'd never want to hurt him. But I'm not going to allow her to take advantage of other people who would spend their last dollar supporting this fraud. I pray for Jerry, but I'd like to see her in prison. read more

I travel from Deerfield to Henniker for all of my automotive needs. Jerry is a small business success story. His prices are fair and both Jerry and Jay do great work. But the important thing is they will both explain what the issue is and how to address it. Some people have trouble finding a mechanic they can trust but I don't. read more
