I was initially skeptical about an in-home daycare, but I quickly learned that Kidslandia is the the absolute best introduction into daycare and school for my little one. My almost-two year old loves his teachers and classmates, and I love that he is learning through play on a daily basis, and that I can see that learning through an app that is updated with photos and information each day during naptime. There is clearly a schedule for the day with homemade breakfast and play in the morning, followed by circle time and songs, then a structured activity around a theme (i.e., transportation, animals, etc) or skill (i.e., matching colors, identifying letters, gross motor, fine motor) or sensory bins, then playtime in their indoor or outdoor play area, followed by another homemade lunch and a nap, and finally snack and more play. As a teacher myself, knowing that my child is being exposed to a preschool-like schedule, gaining social skills, and coming home knowing new songs, words, and concepts--in both English AND Spanish!!--I could not be more satisfied. Over the course of just a few months, Mimi took multiple days off, was then absent for an extended period, and resigned abruptly via text message with zero notice, claiming she had an ongoing family emergency to tend to. After Mimi's resignation, the agency shared that she had expressed concerns about working with our family. I honestly took the feedback hard and it sent me to a dark place, as I didn't know this nanny I TRUSTED was judging me and my home so harshly when I'm just trying to do the best I can as a postpartum working mom. For what it's worth, much of the feedback seemed to be rooted in misunderstandings and in some cases, reflected basic responsibilities that were explicitly outlined in our nanny agreement. And none of those concerns had ever been raised directly despite months of her being sweet and warm to our faces. Again, I do not blame the agency. While I can't recommend our experience with this particular nanny, I can say that Rimma handled a very difficult situation with professionalism and compassion, which is why I'm choosing to leave the agency a five-star review. Rimma followed up with us thoughtfully and took our concerns seriously, and worked quickly to ensure we had a fantastic temporary nanny in place so our family wasn't left without childcare.

She does this as an opportunity for parents to have a date night or go out with friends, and plans a fun night of activities and dinner for the kids. This has come in handy multiple times in the last two years! -An amazing network of daycare families that support each other. -Nasly throws individual birthday parties for the kiddos on their birthdays with banners, food, and even a gift. During our very first visit, our toddler was almost instantly drawn to Nasly. She has a brightness and warmth that immediately made us want to enroll in her care. And whenever I pick her up she's happy and excited to show me any worksheets or art activities she worked on that day. We were looking for a family daycare environment that would be personal, caring and feel like home. Also importantly it had to match with work schedules averaging from 7:30 am-5:30 pm. His teachers Connie and Mikaela were wonderful. They offer both English and Mandarin language education that supplements what we speak at home. The Lanci house is clean, safe and dedicated to the kids play indoors and outdoors. After trying to organize our home based on Montessori principles, I appreciate that the toys are age appropriate and accessible. There's a small area for cots and cribs for napping and our baby never lost sleep. He's benefited so much from being with other kids both his age and older. He's hit so many milestones including rolling over, sitting and now crawling! He has tried and loved all the foods he eats there. I love that I get updates about all his activities throughout the day (eating, napping, diaper changes). Evelyn and Connie, the program founders are fantastic and truly treat every child like their own. It feels great to have my little one looked after by people who are so caring. While my conclusion is an opinion, it is based on my family's experience and documented evidence. Regardless, I hope Yelp users take every review with a grain of salt whether 1 or 5 stars. The Bantry location was cited for being overcapacity for both children and caretakers (license # 015700135). The 1:2 to 1:6 ratio depends on if other children are sick/vacation and/or there is staff available. The latter has been difficult with the staff turnover. In my experience at the Bantry location, ~55% of the time spent at Lanci was at a 1:4 ratio, which was not what we signed up initially for. 1. There were no requests to change any policy. The contract I signed did not have a clear vacation policy and I had to get clarification and find common ground with Evelyn. We agreed in writing to a solution. The other reference to the contract was when all infants at Bantry contracted COVID-19 due to a caretaker testing positive a few days prior to all infants being ill. I inquired about the Provider's Sick Day policy and Evelyn agreed to reimburse parents for the days the Bantry location was closed. 2. My family honored the sick policy and that Evelyn was the final arbiter even with a medical opinion in hand. We complied when she requested us to pick up our son as soon as we could. As previously mentioned, our experience has been a hit-or-miss - sometimes our son or other children could attend with cold-like symptoms, other times they could not. 3. Expectations about Lanci were set during initial interactions with Evelyn prior to signing up. I agreed to supply our own diapers/wipes without a tuition adjustment. As Lanci could not fully accommodate for a vegetarian/vegan diet, Evelyn and I agreed to a $100/month tuition adjustment to offset my cost to provide snacks/meals to my son when he started solid food. No further discounts were inquired for. Towards the end of 2022, Evelyn introduced a new ~$350 materials fee for 2023. I asked if my family could be waived given it would exceed our 2023 budget as a tuition of $2750/month is expensive for an 18-24 month year old program. She responded with a no and I respected her decision. Again, the purpose of my review is to provide an updated account of Lanci based on my family's experience and observations.

Sweet Butterfly is an excellent daycare. We sent our oldest here from 13 months until after his 3rd…read morebirthday. We are now sending our youngest (also started at 13 months). Highlights: 1. The curriculum and activities are very intentional and thoughtfully planned by the owner, Teacher Cindy Traidman. The kids learned about shapes, colors, letters, days of week, and the significance of holidays. They also practice saying please and thank you, saying sorry, how to wash their hands, and how to feed themselves. 2. The food is nutritious. The staff provides morning snack (2 fruits and starch), lunch (rice/noodles/bread, meat/tofu, vegetables, fruit, and milk), and also dinner! The milk and eggs are organic. The meals are seasoned and very well-balanced (including leafy greens) and typically freshly cooked. We receive photos of the food at almost every lunch and dinner. And my oldest son is very good at eating vegetables, partially because of constant exposure at daycare. 3. The staff to student ratio is really high. On any given day there are 8-12 students max, depending on current enrollment and absences. There have been 3 full-time staff and a rotating cast of part-time staff, some of whom are from the student program which Teacher Cindy runs to train young adults. 5. Teacher Cindy (and Teacher Chao Yu) primarily use Mandarin with the kids, but also communicate to us (the parents) in English. Teacher Anna and the junior staff only speak English to the kids. So the kids truly get the full bilingual experience, and many parents who don't speak mandarin (including us) send their kids to Sweet Butterfly. 4. The staff is warm and cater to each student's needs. They give the kids lots of hugs, and held/patted our babies to sleep when they were still adjusting to naps in the daycare crib. They feed kids who are still learning how to eat and use utensils. They make sure every kid is dressed appropriately for the weather. Teacher Cindy requires us to send sun hats in the sunny months, rainsuits in the wet months, sleep sacks for naps, and always makes sure to put jackets on the kids in the winter (sometimes zipped in the back for kids who are fond of taking off their clothes), and sunscreen in the summer. 5. Music class from 9:30-10:00am on Mondays is a very interactive session taught by Teacher Sean from Sean's Music Factory! (He also runs the paid class at Santa Clara Community Center). Teacher Sean plays his guitar, and also brings instruments (drums, xylophones, shakers) for the kids to try out as well. It's an incredible value that we are so lucky to get included in the Sweet Butterfly experience. 6. The staff send constant photo updates throughout the day via their Brightwheel app. We typically get multiple photos of each activity of the day (morning lesson, morning outdoor play, afternoon lesson/craft, afternoon outdoor play) and also their lunch and dinner food. We don't typically get photos of morning snack food, kids eating, or kids napping, but are very happy to get such unprecedented visibility as we do. 7. Staff really go out of their way to celebrate birthdays and graduation. Parents can bring cake/decoration/gifts themselves or give a budget to Teacher Cindy to organize. The staff have been so supportive of setting up the party and making our kids feel special. 8. The outdoor playground is AMAZING. It is really perfect for this age range. The backyard is so spacious with a play structure and so many bikes, trikes, and cars for the kids to ride. There are also walkers, balls, and other outdoor toys. The perimeter of the backyard makes a perfect round paved track for the kids to ride their bikes on. Things to keep in mind: - In our experience, the best age for Sweet Butterfly is between 1.5-3yo. At 13 months, our kids still couldn't walk, often needed 2 naps a day, and struggled to go from 11:30 lunch until 4:00 dinner without a snack in between. Although the schedule and facility can be challenging for infants, it is very ideal for toddlers. Sweet Butterfly's outdoor playground is better for kids who can walk. The meal and nap schedule is better for kids who are firmly on a 1-nap schedule, and can go up to 5 hours without eating. After 3yo, other kids started to leave for preschool so the new cohort was very young. We would have happily kept our 3yo there longer but there were no longer other kids his age anymore.
