We never faced any separation anxiety, and I thank the teachers for that! During our time we saw no teacher turnover, which speaks to the good management of the school and the dedication of the teachers. They greet (at least pre-Covid) your child with a warm hug and welcome them in. Some of the teachers have become like family and we will miss them terribly. They organize fun celebrations for the holidays and put on plays or bring in trains or petting animals or parades. There are cameras in the kids' rooms but no noise (which I prefer as it offers the providers some privacy). I was never concerned about my child's safety there, but I did enjoy checking in every once in a while to see him reading or dancing or playing with friends. Haidee and Elvie do a great job of running the school, even in challenging times under various and confusing shelter in place orders. They were quick to install Covid safety protocols (including frequent staff testing) and open back up this summer. We so appreciate everything they have done for our son and dedication to their work. We have considered moving out of Sunnyvale to be closer to our workplaces, but each time we go back to not wanting our son to change schools and wanting to be close to Little Sunshine if we have a second child. Here are my favorite things about LSHD: Loving and supportive environment - Cecilia, Yuri, Mari and Ana love and care for our son as if he was part of their own family. I was sad and nervous to leave my baby when my maternity leave ended, and knowing he was in a loving environment that was as close to being loved on at home was one of the only consolations. The team provides our son with homemade, delicious meals that he eats each day, despite barely eating anything we make at home. When he was a baby, they diligently followed our feeding requests and warmed breast milk brought from home and worked on introducing solids. Our son is very spirited and at times has had challenges sharing, taking turns, shouting etc. and they have worked with him on these skills with the utmost patience and support for his individual development. Cleanliness - Cecilia's home is incredibly clean and filled with colorful, engaging toys. I don't want to jinx it, but our son has also avoided any major illnesses commonly picked up at daycare and has not been sick constantly which we were very afraid of when starting child care. He also comes home clean every day, but on the weekends we probably go through two -three outfits a day! Not sure how they do it. Knowledgable - As other reviewers have stated, Cecilia is so empathetic and encouraging for first time parents. She will work through any concerns you may have for your child while carefully listening and offering gentle advice and reassurance. The staff has had over a decade of experience with so many children so it is invaluable to hear their perspective on any concerns you may have. Play based learning - I was not someone who was looking for an academic environment for my very young child and instead valued a loving and caring space for him to play and naturally learn. Our son has exceeded all my expectations for what he could know before the age of two. He can count and say his colors in English and Spanish, has learned about days of the week and the calendar, and can recognize individual letters and the sounds they make. Reliable and open communication - I think in 1.5 years there has been one single day of unplanned closure due to a power outage. They share their vacation schedule well in advance so you can appropriately plan. They share photos and text updates that make my day while at work. They also have surveillance cameras installed both indoors and outdoors, which brings peace of mind to everyone. High-quality care: The owner, Amber, used to be an RN, and her healthcare background really shines through in the way she creates and maintains a clean facility and establishes good hygiene practices for both staff and children. They have a professional cleaning crew deep-clean the entire facility every 1-2 weeks, and my boy learned to wash his hands before meals from a very young age. This may sound obvious, but handwashing is the foundation of personal hygiene and can easily be overlooked. Of course, these practices don't prevent kids from getting sick, but over the past two years he's been there, it honestly hasn't been as bad as what I've heard from others. I believe the hygiene, disinfecting, and cleaning protocols they consistently practice make a difference. Nurturing environment: This small daycare has been nourishing for my boy's heart, mind, and body: 1) He started there at 16 months old as a shy (almost a little timid) little boy, a keen observer who was more reserved with new experiences, a curious little learner who took everything in slowly but steadily, at his own pace. He used to be the only child who wouldn't wear the coat/cloth cover during watercolor class, the only one who stood on the sidelines watching the other kids jump on the bouncy house or play at the water table, or the only one who didn't wear the "party hats" at birthday parties (they host a birthday party for every child!). His teachers never forced him to participate in ways he wasn't ready for. Instead, they actively involved him while still giving him the space to decide how he wanted to engage. It's been amazing to see, through the photos posted on Brightwheel, their teacher-parent communication app (where they provide almost hourly updates every day), how he has become more and more engaged, comfortable, and confident over time. 2) Speaking of nurturing the little growing bodies, the owner has really invested in their meals. They serve hot lunch and dinner freshly made in their kitchen every day. Organic groceries and dairy are staples; they cook salmon for the kids almost every week. Sunny Garden Daycare has been a happy place for our boy. He looks forward to 'going to school' every day. My daughter has also excelled language wise. Her Chinese is better than mine (when we went back to Taiwan, all my relatives were so impressed - she has no accent, even though I have one and my husband doesn't speak). We live in LA and were in Silicon Valley for work for a few months. We wanted to find a great…read morelanguage immersion preschool for our 3-year-old daughter. Luckily, we found Sunflower CDC! I don't even know where to begin with how impressed we are with this school!  First, there are Russian-speaking teachers but this is an international community with kids from different backgrounds. The school has an impressive academic schedule which offers a variety of classes, including extra classes if, like us, you wish for your child to focus a little more on a particular subject such as math or Russian language.  Second, their approach to learning is fun and innovative. They are constantly moving, singing, dancing, creating, and being taught to critically think. SCDC has an easy approach to learning. Information isn't forced onto kids rather, the teachers seamlessly engage kids with these fun activities that encourage them to problem solve and evolve. We were well impressed when Svetlana - who is an absolutely incredible teacher - was teaching them elements of physics (yes, you read that correct). In a fun, easy way Svetlana demonstrated to the class how an orange floats on water because of air in its peel and sinks without its peel. Natalia runs an incredibly impressive school. The staff is very professional, courteous, and attentive to each child. This is very clear when you drop off, pick up your kid. They are passionate and proud of what they do. It's a very transparent, safe, friendly environment. They also have an app, where if you like, they share with you your kids' daily activities and photos. For me, a mama always worried even when my babies are attached to me at the hip, this is really important.  There has been a noticeable improvement in our daughter's development and growth for the month or so that she spent going there. Our daughter really blossomed in that environment. We were even a little sad to go back home to our regular preschool because SCDC set the bar so high.
