    Burnt ends and lean brisket
    Sarah A.

When I saw this new location open up in my neighborhood, I knew I needed to see if it was up to par with other well-established Nashville BBQ lineups. I finally tried it last night, joining my husband at the bar. The dining room is divided into 2 halves where one feels more sports bar and the other half feels like family diner. There is also an outdoor patio, which we couldn't check out due to a private event being held while we visited. It does feel a little less "casual picnic" and much less sticky than other BBQ establishments, but perhaps that's because it's new. We took a while to decide what to order and one of the staff walking by recommended the burnt ends. We had been thinking about building our own dinner tray, so choose 2 meats and an additional order of burnt ends. The cashier then informed us we can add burnt ends as a third meat option, even though it wasn't listed under the options in the menu since it's subject to availability. We appreciated that because we already ordered way too much food for the 2 of us! We sat at the bar and although service took a bit of time to get going, we were subsequently doted on by Kate for the duration of our stay. We did enjoy the burnt ends, but felt the ribs were the star here. We got the wet version but I'd happily order another set with dry rub next time. The fatty brisket was flavorful and tender, but a little too fatty, and the lean version lacked a bit of flavor. The spicy sweet bbq and ranch helped enhance the moisture level for the lean brisket and burnt ends. As for the queso mac, I took some for lunch with extra bbq meat the next day and it was just as enjoyable. The Cole slaw was standard and added some freshness to the heavy meal. We got the pb banana pudding to go and enjoyed it thoroughly on the couch later. Though decadent and delicious, it was so thick and rich, I'm glad we shared the mini version!

Amazing banana pudding that is somehow better than the Bellevue location, not sure how that's possible!! This is our new number one favorite restaurant hands down. Coming from Texas I can honestly say this is the BEST brisket in Tennessee.

Let me preface this review by saying I've eaten a ton of bbq all over TX, TN, and GA so my standard for great BBQ is quite high. Now that that's out the way, let me explain my rating of HoneyFire BBQ. Food Tried the brisket (point and flat slices), parmesan green beans, sweet corn pudding, white queso mac & cheese, and HoneyFire ribs. Let's start with the star of the show, the HoneyFire ribs with honey dry rub. Membrane left on had me concerned at first but the cook was so well done that the membrane was bite through leaving the rib quite moist. Really nice bark on top and the dry rub was sweet and paired well with the pork. The sweet corn pudding was one of the best sides I have ever had at a BBQ spot! Definitely a must try. The Mac & cheese had a ton of queso flavor so I can see how that can be off putting to some and also the pasta itself was a little too firm for me. Let's get to the biggest disappointments and that was the lean brisket and green beans. The brisket was missing that smoke flavor and didn't really have a strong beef flavor. Additionally, though the point was moist due to fat content it also did not have a strong beef flavor and was lacking smoke. The green beans were not flavorful and I could not taste any parmesan cheese. Service Exceptional! Though the line was long due to the opening, it didn't take too long and we were given free BBQ spicy rub and BBQ sauce. They also were handing out free samples of the burnt ends. My only suggestion would be to have more than one cashier during lunch. Ambiance It is wide open inside, great bar area with TVs and another back area where the doors can be closed if hosting a private event. I did not notice much wood smoke smell in the air so maybe that's why the brisket wasn't filled with that smoke flavor I'm used to. Would I go back? Yes, for the dry rubbed ribs and corn pudding. I also want to try the smoked wings and pulled pork one future visit.

Service was great despite the kitchen manager having to leave unexpectedly. Flavor was great, but ribs weren't fall off the bone tender.

All these healthy people make me embarrassed as to what I've done to my body over the past 60+ years. My daughter says that it's never too late to turn it around. But like an oil tanker plowing through the ocean waves, that turn is going to take awhile. The first bend in that turn came in the form of Ginger tofu on a bed of kale and brown rice. Boy is that stuff ever good! Fresh, and if I'm at liberty to say, healthy. So I'll be crossing the threshold of Sunflower in the future. I'll get what my daughter had. Beats me as to what it was. The Sweet Potato Casserole was disappointingly bland. It lacked both flavor and sweetness, unfortunately. The Collard Greens were actually very good! From what I tasted at the cafe, these were the best. The cafe itself has a very welcoming aesthetic. There was a man who welcomed me as soon as I entered. He was very nice and helpful. There was a salt and pepper haired woman who had an extremely unpleasant and unwelcoming attitude. I even asked a question and she ignored me. So believe those reviewers who speak on this. There's a large covered patio in the front of the restaurant, regular inside seating, and a smaller uncovered patio in the rear. I was really hoping to have a better experience here. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things, but nothing made me want to give them another chance.

Inside seating and layout is standard for a Firehouse, but given their location on the complex, they have a few outdoor tables and seating options as well. I always go with a Turkey Bacon Ranch or New York Steamer at FH, and they always come out hot, tasty and as expected. That was my experience here. Wait time was a tad longer than expected, but the service was solid and the person who brought my sandwich out acknowledged the wait time. The store is well kept conditionally, but could use some attention from a cleanliness perspective. There was debris and trash strewn about on the floor, tables were dirty and sticky and the drink station was in a bit of disarray. Nothing alarming, but definitely noticeable. Overall, decent experience at a Firehouse. When in the immediate area, I'd have no issues swinging back by!

Since the one closest to our house in Louisville sucks and we won't go back there, this location more than makes up for those shortcomings. It's about a 3 minute walk from the desk I occupy to this Firehouse Subs. That's pretty ham dandy! I have a favorite menu item and that is the Spicy Cajun Chicken sandwich. I have it at least once while I'm there. The chicken is warm, the bread warm and toasty, and there's some kind of magic going on there in the rest of the ingredients because once I arrive in Brentwood after my drive down I literally can't wait to get lunch. I think, too, that the jalapeños have a lot to say about that great taste. The staff I've encountered here has always been GREAT. Everyone is hustling to take orders, preparing food, and make sure the dining room is kept clean. This place can be crazy busy for lunch, but it's never felt rushed. Every person working is focused on keeping things moving and keeping things in order. Since Firehouse Subs was created by firemen, the décor lends itself well to that, with few pieces of fire fighting equipment decorating the walls, red fireman helmets, and a red-and-while motif. And, for kids, a free plastic firemen's helmet. I'm glad this location is so freakin' awesome. It also makes me wish that the one closer to home was better.
