    Burnt ends and lean brisket
    Sarah A.

When I saw this new location open up in my neighborhood, I knew I needed to see if it was up to par with other well-established Nashville BBQ lineups. I finally tried it last night, joining my husband at the bar. The dining room is divided into 2 halves where one feels more sports bar and the other half feels like family diner. There is also an outdoor patio, which we couldn't check out due to a private event being held while we visited. It does feel a little less "casual picnic" and much less sticky than other BBQ establishments, but perhaps that's because it's new. We took a while to decide what to order and one of the staff walking by recommended the burnt ends. We had been thinking about building our own dinner tray, so choose 2 meats and an additional order of burnt ends. The cashier then informed us we can add burnt ends as a third meat option, even though it wasn't listed under the options in the menu since it's subject to availability. We appreciated that because we already ordered way too much food for the 2 of us! We sat at the bar and although service took a bit of time to get going, we were subsequently doted on by Kate for the duration of our stay. We did enjoy the burnt ends, but felt the ribs were the star here. We got the wet version but I'd happily order another set with dry rub next time. The fatty brisket was flavorful and tender, but a little too fatty, and the lean version lacked a bit of flavor. The spicy sweet bbq and ranch helped enhance the moisture level for the lean brisket and burnt ends. As for the queso mac, I took some for lunch with extra bbq meat the next day and it was just as enjoyable. The Cole slaw was standard and added some freshness to the heavy meal. We got the pb banana pudding to go and enjoyed it thoroughly on the couch later. Though decadent and delicious, it was so thick and rich, I'm glad we shared the mini version!

Amazing banana pudding that is somehow better than the Bellevue location, not sure how that's possible!! This is our new number one favorite restaurant hands down. Coming from Texas I can honestly say this is the BEST brisket in Tennessee.

Let me preface this review by saying I've eaten a ton of bbq all over TX, TN, and GA so my standard for great BBQ is quite high. Now that that's out the way, let me explain my rating of HoneyFire BBQ. Food Tried the brisket (point and flat slices), parmesan green beans, sweet corn pudding, white queso mac & cheese, and HoneyFire ribs. Let's start with the star of the show, the HoneyFire ribs with honey dry rub. Membrane left on had me concerned at first but the cook was so well done that the membrane was bite through leaving the rib quite moist. Really nice bark on top and the dry rub was sweet and paired well with the pork. The sweet corn pudding was one of the best sides I have ever had at a BBQ spot! Definitely a must try. The Mac & cheese had a ton of queso flavor so I can see how that can be off putting to some and also the pasta itself was a little too firm for me. Let's get to the biggest disappointments and that was the lean brisket and green beans. The brisket was missing that smoke flavor and didn't really have a strong beef flavor. Additionally, though the point was moist due to fat content it also did not have a strong beef flavor and was lacking smoke. The green beans were not flavorful and I could not taste any parmesan cheese. Service Exceptional! Though the line was long due to the opening, it didn't take too long and we were given free BBQ spicy rub and BBQ sauce. They also were handing out free samples of the burnt ends. My only suggestion would be to have more than one cashier during lunch. Ambiance It is wide open inside, great bar area with TVs and another back area where the doors can be closed if hosting a private event. I did not notice much wood smoke smell in the air so maybe that's why the brisket wasn't filled with that smoke flavor I'm used to. Would I go back? Yes, for the dry rubbed ribs and corn pudding. I also want to try the smoked wings and pulled pork one future visit.

Service was great despite the kitchen manager having to leave unexpectedly. Flavor was great, but ribs weren't fall off the bone tender.

I ordered the 10$ quesadilla meal (sub queso +1$) with a macaroni and cheese side (+4$), and I loved the brisket in the sandwich and the mac n cheese was delicious. My only complaint was that 4$ is a bit steep for how much side you actually get. There were a few combos rib + meat combos that came with sides included but all drinks were ordered separately so the cost definitely added up quickly. The service was polite, friendly, and quick with an interesting walk-up to order system, with them bringing your food to you once you're sat. The ambiance was a bit eclectic and wasn't quite what we were expecting, but it did the job and didn't take away from our experience. Tables are small and only fit about 4 but there's plenty of open space in the restaurant that I'm sure you could push a table together if needed. Bathrooms were clean!

It's a counter service joint; you walk up, order, and then someone runs the food to your table. First off, they asked for a point of service tip; that bugs me when I'm ordering my own food at the counter and fetching my own drinks. The menu is fairly standard for a southern BBA joint; brisket, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, chicken. I am generally suspicious of any place that offers chopped brisket. Brisket is meant to be sliced and enjoyed as a slab of meat, not as a pile of hash. So, the chopped brisket sandwich was out for me. I asked if the brisket platter would be served as slices, and they assured me it was, so I ordered brisket with two sides. They recommended the beans and the Mac 'n cheese, so that's what I went with. They also asked me if I wanted the meat lean, marbled, or half and half; I took that as a good sign, and asked for marbled. They food came out in about 5 mins; just enough time for me to head to the soda fountain and fill my own cup. Maybe they should tip me? On the plus side, the portions were pretty large. I'm guessing that the served at least 6-8 ounces of brisket, and the individual sides were pretty large as well. On the other hand, whoever sliced the brisket simply didn't know what they were doing. They sliced it WITH the grain, producing slices full of stringy meat. Stringy meat that was hard to cut with the plastic cutlery provided. I find it hard to believe that anyone who regularly serves BBQ brisket doesn't know to cut the meat against the grain. The meat appeared to feature a nice bark; however, on further exploration, a) the bark was so tough that it couldn't be cut as all with the plastic cutlery, and b) when I tore into it with my fingers and ate a piece, it had no taste. Not even a basic Texas salt and pepper rub could be detected. A large portion of tasteless, poorly cut meat does no one any favors. The beans were a little underdone; IMHO, that's far better than mushy, overcooked beans. However, they, too, had no flavor. No spice, nada. The mac and cheese was shells in a white cheese sauce. Strike 3; zero flavor for the sauce. I don't know how you can make cheese sauce without flavor, but they managed to do so. I have never, ever thrown as much food away at a a BBQ joint than I did today. What a shame. Not recommended, not even a little bit. Try Martin's or Edley's; if you prefer a chain, Mission BBQ will do you much better than Hogwood.

I went with the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, 2 sides: Slaw and the Potato Salad. They have white sauce available at the "drink station", otherwise traditional BBQ sauces on the table. Sandwich was great, I always put a bit of slaw on my BBQ and added some white sauce. It was delicious! Slaw is vinegar based and includes a bit of kale, it is fine. But the Rosemary Potato Salad was really good! Just a bit of bacon in there too to complete the flavors. Others enjoyed the Hatch Green Chili Grits which is a nice take on traditional grits. Staff was super friendly and as we sat around the table, they came over to our table after lunch asking if we wanted a mini Moon Pie to complete the meal! Of Course! Restaurant is neat and clean, good BBQ option and the sides make it!

Parking was super easy, and the woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were clean, and the restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of tables and room to spread out, which is always appreciated when dining with little kids. My kids played outside while we waited for our food, but the food came out quickly. The kids' meals are some of the best values in town. One tip: the bun on the kids' cheeseburger is huge compared to the patty. I asked if they could add an extra patty, and they did for just $1. After removing some of the bun, it made for a much better burger and still kept the meal incredibly affordable. The spicy chicken tacos are also some of the best tacos in town. Our family of five ate for about $50. We usually buy Edley's gift cards at Costco, so our actual cost was closer to $40. It's refreshing to have a restaurant in Nashville that truly welcomes families while still serving great food. Highly recommend for anyone dining with kids.

Don't be shy with the BBQ sauce, it really takes everything to the next level. The platter comes with two sides. I chose one vegetable, baked beans, and one fruit, banana pudding. For those not from the South, macaroni and cheese is considered a vegetable, and banana pudding is absolutely a fruit. That's just science around here! For the longest time, Bringle's was my absolute favorite in town, but Edley's may have just managed to take the crown. I almost feel like I'm cheating on Mr. Bringle by saying that, but as he famously put it, "You don't have to hate somebody else's barbecue to like mine." My default order at any top-tier joint is either a brisket plate or a multi-meat combo platter with brisket as the anchor. Edley's plates come properly equipped with two sides and a slice of cornbread. Where they really set themselves apart, though, is the menu flexibility: -The Add-Ons: You can throw on a $5 upcharge to add an extra 3 oz of meat or a jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage. -Burnt Ends: Edley's offers burnt ends, which is a bit of a rarity in town and something you don't easily find over at Jack's or Bringle's. If they're available when you order, grab them. Price-wise, Edley's isn't cheap, but it's far from overly expensive. It sits at fair market value, costing roughly what you'd pay for a comparable meal at any of the other major players in Nashville. The meats are high quality, wonderfully smoked, and packed with deep flavor. Beyond the rare burnt ends, the sauces here are what truly elevate the meal. Across the board, Edley's house sauces--from their classic red to their white sauce--are probably my personal favorites in the city. Between Jack's, Bringle's Smokin' Oasis, and Edley's, you genuinely cannot go wrong--Nashville barbecue is in great hands. But right now? Edley's holds my top spot. I also had the Nashville hot link, a smoked sausage with house made spicy pimento cheese and pickled jalapeños. It was indeed pleasantly spicy. We shared some fries, which were hot, crisp, and well seasoned. They also have ribs, wings, bbq nachos and fries, fried pickles, bbq chicken and turkey, various sandwiches and platters. They also offer Nashville's staple hot chicken in platter, sandwich, and taco form. Catfish is another option, in all the same varieties.
