This is a typical Chinese fast food joint but I think it deserves much more credit than the previous reviewers have given it. I've bought from this place many times and have always walked out with an extremely full stomach and smile on my face. Everytime you buy from this place, your box is filled to the brim with food. I'm a fata** when it comes to food so I stuff my face when I eat here.. but $6 can get you plenty of food for two. Better yet, they actually sell beer. First impression when seeing the food... It looks fresh and tasty. We ordered a few different items; orange chicken, Black pepper chicken, broccoli beef, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and noodles. Also, we had ordered egg rolls though they were not ready so we patiently waited 5 minutes for those before taking our feast home. My verdict: the egg rolls were flavorless, we should have skipped the wait on those. Actually I have to say that everything we ordered (except the fried rice) was lacking in flavor. I was somewhat disappointed. On a good side the food was not heavy, the rice was very good and the look as I said was fresh. HK Express is ehh...average to me. Little hole in the wall restaurant but definitely worth it. Customer service is great! My usual is the Hot & Sour soup- recommendation. Always served fresh and sizzling hot. Looks to be family owned. The food was pretty good. I had the Chow Main and the Garlic Chicken, both were taste if just a little grease.....but it is Chinese fast food and that is normal. The service on the other hand was not that great. The girl that helped me seemed put out by the fact she had to work and just was pretty rude the whole time. A-OK - i have ordered from them a few times, and have always ordered big. $65 + orders. and i was happy with the food. tastes like regular chinese fast food. which was what i wanted and expected. and i was grateful just to have chinese food delivered! because i never find that in my area and there are times when i don't want to go out or am sick, or whatever, so i was just happy to get some decent chinese food! how ever i have had major problems: they don't speak english. don't answer the phone properly. just says 'hello'. (annoying) passes the phone around from employee to employee when trying to place order. don't even understand basic english for chinese food order, such as " one order of eggrolls, please" calls goes to their cell phone and you get disconnected often. and then you have to start over, because they don't remember you from 3 minutes ago. (LOL) once they delivered a completely different order (just soup) and took the guy a hour to come back with the correct one which was then 2 hours waiting for food? i STRONGLY suggest you order through the yelp site, it makes life easier. and the customer service will then deal with speaking to them on the ETA or items wrong on your order. over all, i would recommend them. because when you want your chinese food, and want it delivered, WHATHA GONNA DO???! I love coming here, I live close by and it has become a household favorite. I wouldn't call it authentic Chinese food, but it's better than Panda and the employees are always very kind and totally hook up the plates! You can't beat the price for the amount of food that you get. I have used the Yelp eats for both delivery and takeout and have always had amazing service that was both prompt and friendly. I love the food here! I've never had any issues and we've brought our business here for a long time now. There is a new employee who started working here a few months ago who is always nice and courteous. She's an older lady with short hair. I don't know if she was having a bad day today but she was completely rude, disrespectful and made very discriminatory remarks to me! I always ask for less chow mein and substitute with more steamed rice instead (and I made sure to ask if this was ok the first time I did it) and ALL of the employees say yes, including her. When I went in today and asked for the same thing, she told me "you always ask for more and I give it to you but you don't pay me more with a tip". I told her "excuse me? What did you say?" And she replied "you always want more and you don't give me tip, but that's fine, that's how you are, what else do you want". I replied "I am not, nor have I ever asked for more. All I asked was for less chow mein and to substitute it with more rice instead " she ignored me and continued serving the rest of the food. I asked the cashier if the owner was there and she said "yes". While I waited for the owner, the lady started yelling more remarks "it's all your fault, it's people like you, your kind of people who do this"..... "we don't have money and you have money and it's people like you who do this"..... "thats fine that's fine your people always do this and we don't have money". I asked the cashier to please ask her to stop because I wasn't being disrespectful to her in any way nor was I saying anything to her throughout her rant. (Keep in mind there were at least 6 other customers in the restaurant at the time who just kept staring at her and she continued to yell at me and I stood there quietly). The owner came out and I explained the issue to him and told him she was disrespectful and inappropriate. He seemed more concerned with getting me out of there and tried to give me the food for free. I refused and told him he was missing the point. I told him and the cashier, who was translating a few things for him, that was the issue to begin with.... The employee is under the impression that I am trying to get more food for the same price and now he's trying to just give me the food for free. As I was speaking with him, she continued to yell things while serving the plates of other customers, and he didn't even turn to ask her to stop! The cashier said the food will be free and she kept apologizing and tried to even throw egg rolls into the bag. I kept handing her my card, mortified that the owner didn't even turn to tell the employee to be quiet, and asked her to charge my food. The owner at this point just walked back into the kitchen and didn't seem too concerned. Everyone was staring at us and I was fighting back tears. She refused and kept apologizing and said please take it, it's ok. She saw tears pooling in my eyes as I continued to beg her to charge my food and to take out the egg rolls she was trying to give me. She continued apologizing and asked me to just take it. I told her "please stop. Please just charge my food so I can go. I've never been so embarrassed in my life and I didn't even do anything wrong and she's still over there yelling". She finally saw how hard I was fighting the tears and heard my voice cracking and charged me for the food. The other employee started laughing and I told the cashier I wanted to leave a tip, but asked if she can please give it to the cook instead. The cashier thanked me and said she would give it to the cook. I cried all the way home and even now as I write this review. I've never been so mortified in my life. I don't want to stop coming here, but I will no longer accept her service and will ask for someone else to help me. The only thing I can do now is to make sure to leave a nice fat tip to the other employee instead of her. Sorry for my rant everyone, but I just didn't think she should have been so disrespectful. To be fair my order did get to my house before the estimated time, that was the only awesome part of my evening. I ordered the family meal containing 1 large chow mein 1 large fried rice 1 medium beef and broccoli 1 medium orange chicken 2 egg rolls 2 cream cheese wontons. Also ordered a side of their Mongolian beef and fried shrimp. OK I'm going to try to be as nice as possible because they're cream cheese wontons were pretty good but sadly they were the only thing you didn't have to smother in soy sauce and stuff down your throat. Which if you get beef will only result in you choking on their tough beef that takes longer to chew than taffy. Orange chicken was OK but I would never eat it again. So if you're craving cheap flavorless chinese "food" still don't go here. read more

HK Express is much better than the Panda Express that's located in the HUB at UCR. To my surprise, this place has plenty of spaces to sit as well as big flat screen TV to watch food while you eat. Most of the time, however, I just choose to take out the food. It is what it is: just Chinese Fast Food. Do not expect anything out of the ordinary from other Chinese fast food restaurants food wise. They have all the standards from Orange Chicken to Egg Rolls. I agree w/ other reviews in that it is VERY reasonably priced and very filling. For Combo B (2 items + rice/chow mein/"half&half") the bill came out to around $6~7. The server was very prompt and ready to take the order--a big plus for me. What keeps this restaurant from a 5-star rating is that the food is very bland if you do not go during the times of lunch and dinner. Furthermore, my biggest complaint is with the chow mein. I avoid ordering the chow mein side and just stick to the fried rice because the chow mein is more onion than noodles. In fact, I bit into a big chunk of onion that deterred me from finishing it (I just gave it to my friend...he didn't complain IT'S FREE FOOD). Irregardless of the chow mein and the freshness of the food, I frequent this take-out place almost every other school day and I do recommend this place if you are like me and very lazy to prepare any lunch or dinner. read more

The place looks clean, the servers are nice and the atmosphere is calm. The price was decent, i love placed in which i can pay with a $10 bill and this is one of them. Both of these orders were around dinner time, 5-7pm. I have been happy with the food both times! The vegetable chow mien is delicious, and I really like the fried rice and the orange chicken. I think the price is comparable to other Chinese food places. For two entrees (that come with 1 side each), I paid like $18.50, and it is a lot of food...it could easily feed 2 people and probably have some leftovers. read more
