I came over to check things out when I saw that Big Sky down the street had a sign up saying they'd temporarily be at HK Express. I'm a little confused about what's happening but it seems like either the two restaurants might be sharing a location moving forward or Big Sky is closing and selling their recipes to HK Express. Unfortunately, HK Express was not yet serving dishes from the Big Sky menu, but the owner was super nice and explained to me that they were in the process of merging and would likely serve some of the Big Sky menu in the near future. Hong Kong Express is similar to places like Panda Express, with warmed food trays that you choose from to make a combo with rice/noodles. A promotion is running right now for buy two get one 50% off, or buy three get one free; I ended up getting four Combo A's. It's been feeding me for days! Very generous with the carb portions, and for the price, I can't complain about the amount of protein. I think I got the largest portions for the orange chicken and the sweet and sour chicken. For the dishes that have veggies mixed in, it can be a little luck of the draw with how much protein you get. I really liked the black pepper chicken, which was velveted to be super soft. Spicy items had a nice kick and all of them were saucey and delicious. I would recommend getting items that are supposed to be crispy only if the trays seem freshly made, else wise they can be a bit soggy... Not that I care with this kind of food, personally. The interior is a little dingy/run down but seemed clean enough. Service was wonderful-- much more than I'd expect from a Chinese fast food establishment. Big thanks to the owner for being really sweet and including some free sides to try. It was really good, and I'll definitely be back when the midnight cravings strike!

While the service at ordering was kind, the food itself did not match. Upon having it, I was met with a bland tasting kung pao chicken, vegetable ingredients were undercooked, and the spare ribs were bland too. The chow mein was the only thing that had any flavor. Unfortunate really

FLY COOKED INTO FOOD better food quality would be great :/ tldr: i ordered pickup via doordash, picked up the order, came back home to eat, ate half and noticed a fly cooked INTO a black bean spare rib after eating part of that same rib (im sad and i can see wings on this poor fly)

Combo C: Half fried rice and half chow mein with orange chicken and BBQ pork.

This family-owned restaurant has been a staple on University Avenue for a very long time. Their format is familiar to anyone who's ever eaten at Panda House: Pick a combination of 1-3 items and choice of rices, chow mein, or both. They do a brisk delivery business via Uber Eats, Doordash, and other services, as well as take-out or dine-in. The food is fresh, and occasionally, they'll run out of some items. I'd rather they 86 something than serve it subpa. Rating, this is hard without having a rotary scale for the process instead of aggregate scores. I'd say 3.8 but can't 'round up' to 4, for example, because there are reasons it's not a solid 4. The food is really salty, for one thing. I didn't realize how much until later on when I felt dehydrated. The leftovers the next day confirmed my suspicions. Nevertheless, the BBQ Pork was pretty good, and I loved the orange chicken, too. Fried rice is pretty simple here, no prizes, but the chow mein is decent. I like the friendliness of the owners and staff, so that's also a plus. I'd dine again in case you're wondering, the food does look fresh and inviting.

Combo Plate C 3 item with Orange Chicken, teriyaki chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Half chow mein and fried rice.

First off, I've never been here. I'm from the other side of town near Madison st where there is Ho Ho Chinese food. I've been a fan of them for years and years. On to the review here at Hong Kong. The place is tucked away in a mini mall, it was almost bear closing time, there was a small family eating inside. I was greeted right away when I walked in, the staff were nice and asked what I wanted to order. I asked for the 3 item combo with orange, teriyaki and sweet and sour chicken with the 1/2 fried rice and chow mein. I noticed right away the sweet and sour chicken wasn't dry popcorn chicken like at Ho Ho's, but instead it was saucy like the orange chicken. I got home with my food and basically ate almost everything. The teriyaki sauce they give on the side was so delicious. The food was so good and hot.. I am definitely trying this place again, I want to try the mandarin chicken. It looked good.

I went here because Big Sky Bistro seems to share the restaurant with them. Big Sky's food is still hood however until they move next door to their own unit I will not be going back (maybe just for rake out). The restroom is a complete turn off!!! It was filthy and smelly! The dirty urinal, toilet bowl and sink are disgusting! And why is there a huge open trash bin inside the small restroom? THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE, IF THE TOILET THAT IS FOR EVERYONE TO SEE IS DIRTY, I WONDER HOW DIRTY THE KITCHEN MIGHT BE?

I was at my hotel and craving Chinese food so I saw the very positive and also negative reviews so I wanted to judge this for myself and so glad I did!! So hold up, where are all these bad reviews coming from!??? I just had one of the most flavorful shrimp fried rice dishes I have ever had like in my life and I haven't at some of the best Chinese places across the county. The rice was full of flavor and big large shrimp was used unlike other places that use cocktail shrimp. There was plenty of shrimp in the rice as well and didn't skimp on it like other places. I can't say anything about the service since I had ordered out nor the ambiance. However, based on the taste and overall flavor of the rice and the hot and sour soup that was also on point, I would definitely recommend and I would eat here again. This was a very comforting meal and a super good fried rice that I will go back for next time I'm on the area! If you are looking for a good Chinese place, give this place a try! Don't pay attention to the naysayers or negative reviews! This is a good option to eat at!!

The service is quick, the food is excellent!!!! It is a hole-in-the-wall type of eatery, but these are the gems you always look for! The food is made with a lot of love. My favorite is their roasted duck noodle soup. The crispy pork belly is my second choice, followed by the roasted duck, but EVERYTHING they serve is top notch! It was not too loud in there and the place was relatively empty so that was nice. Biggest disappointment was service, because our table ordered chow mein and the waiter brought us chow fun (flat noodles with gravy). When we told him that we ordered chow mein, he told us that what we ordered was chow fun, so I showed him what we ordered on the menu and he said "you wanted lo mein". While I get that, he spent a minute trying to figure out where the item was and couldn't find it. I reviewed pics on here and it seems like other people got the thick yellow noodles for chow mein. Anyway, they replaced it for us but I overheard the waiter tell his manager that we ordered chow fun by accident. The manager then told us something about "our mistake" upon paying, placing blame on us . The manager was nice about it, but we repeatedly told the waiter chow mein and he kept correcting us to chow fun. Also, there is a section of the menu labeled chow mein and a separate page labeled chow fun. I think I know what we ordered. Disappointing.

Our entire family grieved the loss of one of the best dim sum and Chinese cuisine restaurants in the Riverside area. But lately, there was a lot of talk, good talk, that the same owner had reopened here, a tinier bistro setting, not as flashy interior. So here we are, finally, late to the party, but sublimely happy. First things first. An order of their siu mai. Still just as plump, with their signature, wonderful pork- shrimp filling, my taste buds let out a big sigh of relief. I've had to endure some pretty horrible ones from other restaurants lately. Big Skyy's is superb. Next, the black bean pork ribs. Wonderful, just as we remembered. A healthy portion, plenty of meat in spite of the bones. Great gravy. Finally, the eggplant with beef. This one was extra special, made with generous amounts of filet mignon, eggplant cut in spears, cooked in a salty sweet garlic sauce that is very special. It was melt-in-your-mouth, swoon worthy. One of my favorites. They still accommodate large family groups, a few big round tables for 6 or more. The staff was very friendly and took the time to answer all our questions. They feature the same marvelous menu and the same chef who creates those traditional Chinese dishes with pizzazz. It's wonderful to re-acquaint ourselves with an old "friend". It's even better to know, the important things we remembered have not changed a bit. You would be right to assume we will be back!

The restaurant itself is super spacious, and since we came at kind of an odd time after the lunch rush, it was really calm and relaxing inside. I do wish it came with a dipping sauce, but we already had sweet and sour sauce on the table and ended up using that instead, which actually paired really well with it. We also got the Chicken Pad Thai, which honestly impressed me a lot. The portion size was huge for the price, I think it was around $12-13, which felt really worth it for how much food we got. The noodles were flavorful, well cooked, and had a good balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors without feeling too heavy.
