Came to pick up lunch today, everything was ready in 20 minutes. Arrived at my brother's house to find out the shu mai was missing. Called it in and was able to grab it after coming back to the restaurant. The manager gave us a free dim sum which was nice. Food was delicious! BUT where they lack in creativity or modernity they make up in EXECUTION/QUALITY. All the dishes were so good. They also have dim sum on the dinner menu! The crab was fried to perfection. You could easily bite in to get the meat. We had two crabs dishes... The house signature black pepper and the fried crab. The French beef dish was so tender I was surprised they could do it that well. The macau pork belly had the perfect amount of crisp and not too much fat. The Beijing duck comes with the duck like shredded so I'd be aware of that. I still found it to be really good tho and to have a ton of meat. My family has been spreading the word about China Republic for some time now. We have a favorite aunt in Rancho, so my wife will often go to China Republic with her and sometimes our kids. Besides the fish, I had black mushrooms in a vinegar sauce and a variety of other vegetable offerings. Everything was delicious. Ambiance: The ambiance is very nice. It's a little on the formal side, with nice tea service, chopsticks, clean tablecloths, and bone China, but it isn't overly so. I saw people adorned in a wide range of outfits, from hoodies and jeans to polos and Oxfords, and nice blouses and skirts or even dresses. Nobody seemed or was made to feel out of place. My family and I were craving some dim sum and China Republic seems to be the only restaurant in the IE area that offers it! One thing I will note is that they are quite expensive compared to other dim sum restaurants we've tried. I believe their dishes range from $5+ per plate which is pretty pricey but if you don't want to drive out to Rowland heights, OC or LA - this is your only option. Their food is good though! We tried all the standard dim sum dishes: Steam char sui bal, custard tarts, Custard buns, sesame buns etc. everything tasted great! Har Gow is overstuffed with shrimp, Sui Mei is large and flavorful, Beef Balls have a pleasant hint of lemon grass, Rice Noodles come with choice of several meats. The xlb came out cool and you can see dark spots on the wrapper where the juice had burst during cooking, leaving the xlb very dry when eaten. So tell me why is it taking long for our order to come one and two the two different Asian couples that come in get seated right away and gets all there food yet 3 of our orders don't come out. Was given the excuse that the kitchen is busy but mind you they've all been catered too. And it looks like this. So tell me your kitchen is busy why? Just seems like they didn't want to serve us but not only that we didn't order drinks they just assumed waters would be okay. But no extra napkins, no water refills and no one checking to see if everything is okay. The fact that I had to flag our waiter down but he's okay going to bigger tables and checking with others. I would definitely recommend China Republic. My family and I celebrated my mom's retirement and they were very accommodating to our group of 6 people. The plates are family style so we shared everything. The best part is their lovely spinning table which makes it easy to share food with the entire table. Everything we ordered was tasty.
