Big sky bistro has opened a new dine in restaurant next to Hong Kong express. If you loved the old big sky, you will love the new one too. Same great food same great owners in a nice New location. Highly recommend Jon and Eddie are the best.

Apparently they are the same owners as Big Sky Bistro down the street. They have plans to expand next door where the pizza parlor used to be to seat bigger parties. Ordered dine in menus over at Hong Kong Express. Tastes exactly the same. Good food for my soul.

Updated: October 31, 2025 This is for those who are trying to go to BSB. This is our go to place for dim sum. They are still in operation but not at the location they once were in. They are currently operating inside Hong Kong Express which is less than a block east of their old place. They are awaiting permits for the space next door. We were a bit hesitant because it looks like Chinese fast food but they have a smaller version of their original menu. We were able to order our favorites & it was all good. I think they have the best pork and preserved egg congee with Chinese donuts. I look forward to when they will be in their own space. Our server Fei and the other server (didn't get her name) provided great service and was very nice and attentive.

Big Sky is great-- One of the best Hong Kong style restaurants around, even compared to places in Rowland Heights. A little pricey, but hey, I'm saving in gas. Portions are generally pretty big too. I ordered a couple different things on my last visit. I noticed that the hand-shredded chicken (手撕鸡) is off the menu now, but the staff were nice enough to make it for me anyway on request! I really enjoyed the salt and pepper squid as well. Nice, big pieces of squid that weren't all batter. Roasted duck was better than what you can find at 99 Ranch, with crispier skin and a better temp. While the flavor of the crispy noodle (两面黄) was good, there was a little too much sauce. I started eating it pretty much as soon as it came to the table, but the noodles were already soggy. There was maybe one corner that was crispy, but yeah, the texture was off.

Been coming here for many years. Their food never disappoints. Service is fast and servers always checking on us. It's a nice family friendly restaurant.

Not too many traditional Chinese spots in this part of town except for a handful by UCR and I'm on a mission to try them all. Tonight I settled on Big Sky Bistro which serves pretty traditional Cantonese fare and Dim Sum. I was dining with friends who have more "American" tastes so I wanted to make sure there was something they liked. Of course, I got a few traditional dishes too! Now what did we think of the food? There were hits and misses. If you're looking for the traditional Sichuan Mapo Tofu, this is a pass. It was too mild, no Szechuan peppercorn flavor or numbing and too watery. Still tasty and at least it had ground meat but we've had much better and also much worse elsewhere. Salt and Pepper Tofu was good but really only immediately out of the fryer so it doesn't travel well. We all liked the French Style Beef and Walnut Shrimp but it's nothing special and pretty standard. The standout dish was the Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables. The pork belly was melt in your mouth tender and surprisingly even my friends liked the preserved vegetables in it. I personally enjoyed the Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice. The salted fish adds a bit of stink, almost like fish sauce but imparts wonderful umami flavor. My friends didn't dare try the fried rice but it's really not that out there (they're not the most adventurous) and it's something a lot of us Asian enjoy! Overall, good traditional Chinese comfort food. It felt like eating at grandmas house. Even though I didn't get it this time, I just know this will be the spot when I'm sick and want pork and century egg congee. They have an extensive menu and will be back to try different dishes next time!

I've been eating at Big Sky since I moved to Riverside 5 years ago. With a casual atmosphere, quick service, and never any wait times, I often go in my PJs for an improvised dinner when too lazy to cook. There are lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from. They're really good, but I do remember the animal based dishes being quite a bit better-- more flavorful and better seasoned. My favorite was the hand shredded chicken with jellyfish and the HK style spare ribs. The veggie dishes are light and healthy tasting though with less salt and oil in comparison. Personally though, when I want Chinese food, I want something home style-- meaning savory, saucy, and spicy. Prices have not been so good lately. I haven't come as much as I used to because of it. Other Chinese restaurants, closer to Rowland Heights-Pasadena are a lot cheaper and just as delicious. I still crave Big Sky on occasion though. It's one of the better Chinese restaurants in Riverside!

This is my go-to dim sum restaurant in the Riverside area. It's definitely got the Cantonese dim sum house feel. I always wonder why it never gets buzzing like the ones in more Asian neighborhoods. But I enjoy the hidden gem feel of it. Food is reliable. Good dim sum options, has all the classics. You order from a menu instead of choosing from a cart being pushed around. Service is at a good pace. They really try their best to accommodate you. I wish the sweetened lemon tea had more lemon slices though. Love this place. Give it a try; it won't disappoint. They do good takeout too.

This place is my go to Chinese food spot. Their food is always delicious every single time we go. I LOVE their egg drop soup, I'm always on the hunt for a good one. This is the only one that reminds me of the one I grew up eating at one of my fav spots in Bakersfield, I had never found another one that tasted as good at any other Chinese restaurant. They also have really good chicken fried rice + their soup dumplings are so yummy. The first time I tried the soup dumplings I wasn't that into them but I tried them again recently and they're so good. I always come here with my family or with my fiancé. The service is always amazing and staff is nice. I always get the milk tea as well and it's basically unlimited refills. It's also very spacious inside, has good parking and many options to choose from on the menu. definitely our little gem here in Riverside :)

Dim sum in Riverside! Although the selection is not great, to be able to get decent dim sum without going very far is certainly a plus. Got the standard steamed shrimp dumplings, pork & shrimp dumplings, vegetables wrapped in tofu skin, Shanghai juicy dumplings, salt & pepper chicken wings, stuffed sticky rice in lotus leaves, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, and lobster noodles. They didn't have a seafood tank visible but the lobster was live and must have been kept in a tank inside the kitchen. The noodles were not the best, but passable. And if I can get fresh lobster noodles in Riverside, I am not complaining! The standouts were the Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The broccoli was really fresh, perfectly cooked, and crunchy. Chicken wings were succulent and delicious. The other dim sum dishes were all quite decent. Service was not very attentive, typical of a Chinese restaurant that is not super classy. The restaurant is quite spacious, didn't feel cramped. My only complaint was that some of the prices were unreasonably high. $11.88 for the stuffed sticky rice in lotus leaves and the Shanghai juicy dumplings were just out of line. But overall it's not a bad place for Chinese food in Riverside.

I was intrigued by this restaurant that some said had good food but poor service. For me, for a Chinese restaurant, it is a must try. I'm an ABC (American Born Chinese), so I'm used to service that might be subpar. My husband and i went on a Friday night aims 730p. It wasn't too busy. The parking lot is a bit abandoned as the other businesses are closed on the south side of the building. I would suggest parking on the north side. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and seated right away. They gave us plenty of time to look over the menu but not so much that we were waiting-- it was perfect. The staff are Chinese (speak Cantonese), so this is always a good indication. I'm sorry to disappoint the naysayers, but the food was very good and the service was excellent. We ordered the Wor Wonton soup, beef chow fun and the combination plate with duck, soy sauce chicken (they were out of spare ribs--a disappointment) and crispy pork belly. All of the dishes were good but the pork belly was the star. It was perfectly crispy and tender. We will definitely be back!

bbq pork noods! yummy! pork was tender and juicy but thin. love it.

Love big sky. Best Chinese food in Riverside. Consistently always good. Have ordered to go and eaten inside as well, like on a friday night. I love how they serve dim sum at night too for dinner. Service is usually quick. They can get busy though. Their honey walnut shrimp is the BEST. Perfectly and lightly crisped with the mayo sauce. Even their bbq pork noodles were fresh. The pork was nice and juicy, not tough. Dim sum was great too. The juicy dumplings were indeed soupy inside. It's a little dingy inside. Seats are showing their age, upholstery is dirty since they're cloth. But no smells and otherwise, clean. Tad pricey, but it's quality food. (ordered 2 dishes, 2 dim sums, & side of white rice plus hot tea = $60).

Is the hargow gluten free? Any other gluten free options or changes that can be made?

Unfortunately no. This place is pretty traditional.

Hello, do you have a gluten free menu?

No, they don't have gluten free menu. But they do have gluten free items, like stir fried and steamed vegetables . Hope this helps:)

Do you have dim sum daily?

    Yes they do!

Do they charge gratuity? If so, how much?

We usually go for lunch and have a group of 6-8. They have never mandated a group tip.

Does anyone know if Big Sky still with door dash delivery service? I can't find them on the app search.

I was there a few days ago, and there were "Door dash" signs on the front door and inside. But I know that bcuz I always go in person to order and pick up my food;)

Is the dim sum on weekends too and from what time?

From open until 3pm typically. If you ask nice some items could be available after 3.

Are you guys open and accepting orders on Christmas Day?

They were open on Christmas Day.

It's available when they open until 3 everyday

Do they have private room for parties?

Not that I know of, but their dinning dining room is big!

I saw the reviews before coming in and saw a couples dishes I was craving, so I ordered the braised pork w/eggs and green onion noodles. Restaurant was nice, quiet (since it was just a handful of stragglers and other people late for the lunch hours), clean, and typical decor of a Chinese restaurant. Wait wasn't too long, but could've been a bit faster. Though the pork was good, I think they left the sauce on the heat for way too long maybe? I know because I cooked this dish at home myself before, and I could tell that they reduced it for far far far too long and the sauce was right on the edge of burnt, and was thick/molasses like, and a bit bitter when it should have been sweet/umami. Like the sauce was dark almost black instead of more red. But! I will give it to them, it was pretty tasty especially when mixed with rice so I guess I couldn't complain too much! The noodles were good, but the pork stole the show so I can't say I recall much, but with some chili oil the green onion noodles were fantastic.

The curry beef pot stickers really stand out, packed with rich curry flavor and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend the chicken and crab roe served over rice or noodles--the crab roe adds an extra layer of umami that makes the dish feel indulgent without being heavy. Definitely worth coming back for these dishes!

The service is quick, the food is excellent!!!! It is a hole-in-the-wall type of eatery, but these are the gems you always look for! The food is made with a lot of love. My favorite is their roasted duck noodle soup. The crispy pork belly is my second choice, followed by the roasted duck, but EVERYTHING they serve is top notch! I will miss coming here since I came here while completing my degree. There is no restaurant so far that can compare to HK BBQ House. Simply amazing!

It was not too loud in there and the place was relatively empty so that was nice. Biggest disappointment was service, because our table ordered chow mein and the waiter brought us chow fun (flat noodles with gravy). When we told him that we ordered chow mein, he told us that what we ordered was chow fun, so I showed him what we ordered on the menu and he said "you wanted lo mein". While I get that, he spent a minute trying to figure out where the item was and couldn't find it. I reviewed pics on here and it seems like other people got the thick yellow noodles for chow mein. Anyway, they replaced it for us but I overheard the waiter tell his manager that we ordered chow fun by accident. The manager then told us something about "our mistake" upon paying, placing blame on us . The manager was nice about it, but we repeatedly told the waiter chow mein and he kept correcting us to chow fun. Also, there is a section of the menu labeled chow mein and a separate page labeled chow fun. I think I know what we ordered. Disappointing.
