Sweet and sour chicken; Esra approved!
Amanda S.

It was a cold and rainy night and I really didn't feel like cooking. I also didn't feel like making the hike to our normal Chinese take out and so I searched yelp and found Hong Kong house. I am very happy I did. Our meal was very delicious and everyone was satisfied. The lady who helped us on the phone and when I arrived was so kind and very helpful! I look forward to trying other items on the menu soon.

Hot & Sour Soup with the wonton things in it. REAL PORK in everything!

UMMMM so this is my new favorite Chinese spot in Virginia Beach! One of our lovely piano teachers mentioned how personable the staff was and how pleased she's been for years so here's my lunch experience today 7/21/20! A polite and efficient gentleman took my order clearly, with ease. 1. It arrived in like 15 mins. No cap. I'm only about 10 mins away from them but still. I paid $15 for Garlic Wings with Fried Rice, Hot & Sour Soup Lunch Special. Added on the 2 Lumpia and a sweet tea to make sure I met the $10 delivery minimum. 2. Y'all they put ice in my sweet tea! *Melts* I know it's simple but I have NEVER had a Chinese establishment include ice in my tea. It's hot as balls outside and inside my workplace so I am beyond grateful. 3. Hot mustard was in my bag. I LOVE the spicy mustard with my rolls/lumpia! Some places don't even have it, the ones that do need you to request it therefore I often forget to ask. It's just one packet but dammit I love good customer service! 4. The garlic sauce is delish and the wings were fried hard just like I asked. The soup is AMAZING with real pork and fresh ingredients. The lumpia are long, perfectly crunchy and are mostly beef actually! My vegetables were chopped very fine inside. My tea didn't have the hint of lemon I expected but was perfectly sweet and not sticky sweet. I love them already lol! Can't wait to try more!

They put my food in a canes container which is odd because it's a Chinese spot but food was good it made up for the last time we were there

If I lived in the neighborhood, Hong Kong House would certainly be my spot for Chinese take-out! I know they have been in existence for awhile because I recall trying them at their previous store-front. I thought it was ok then but, now for Chinese take out I was a pig-in-mud. Their flavors have improved. I kept asking my friends, am I just hungry or is this food just good? It was certainly delicious. We ordered almost everything on the menu. I was impressed w/ their Steamed Dumplings, House Lo-Mein(good portion of meat), Pork Fried Rice, egg roll, Crab Rangoon, Wonton Egg Drop soup, and Hot & Sour soup. Every dish had flavor and their lo-mein even had fresh green onions! Hot & Soup soup had strips of pork which is the way I like it. Food was definitely on the greasy side but, not bad. If anything, authentic and it tasted like I was sitting in Chinatown. Soooo happy. We also ordered their Garlic Chicken wings & regular wings. The wings were HUGE! The Garlic wings were delicious. My only recommendation is that they are fried longer and crispier. Service was awesome and someone well-versed took our order. So happy. :) I want more.

Szechuan beef- Not listed as an all day special but they were able to do it for me!

This is one family-owned Chinese restaurant that has been around for as long as I've been a kid, so obviously, they are doing something right! They've recently moved down the street on Holland Road, and the place is a lot smaller than their original location, which was more suited for dining in. Not a big deal since I usually do take-out with them. I've been a huge fan of their all day specials because their portions are huge; one entrée and two side items, for S6.25! I love their sweet and sour pork and fried rice! Their general tso chicken is probably one of the best in the area as well! I'm getting hungry again just writing this review!

Absolutely disgusting. Chicken tastes old and overcooked/burnt and rice was bland. Seriously made me gag.

I always get the hot tea, a great start to the meal. Overall, I think the seafood fried rice is okay, I'd rather go for another meat like chicken or beef. They have pancit, which was decent. The mapo tofu is very tasty, but I wish there was more ground beef. Spice level was decent, but I would like it spicier. The garlic eggplant is one of my favsssssss!!!! A sweet soy sauce/oyster sauce taste. The Peking duck is very good, skin is crispy. The char siu pork is also very flavorful. THE WALNUT SHRIMP, it's always a winner. This is my husband's favorite. The white sauce just pairs so well with fried shrimp. The dumplings and Rangoons are thick. The dumplings are covered in sweet soy sauce. Very tasty. The pork belly was crispy just like Filipino lechon. I really enjoyed the custard buns. I do love that they have dim sum available to order all day. We have been here many times, and the dishes are always very good. They put a lot on the plate. This is definitely a place for family style. A must try!! We will be back.

I called earlier in the day to see if we should make reservations, but was told they wouldn't be busy. Well, we got there and while they had plenty of tables at 6:30PM, but 7PM that place was completely packed! They had lots of carry-out orders happening too, which all made the kitchen a little slow. We ordered many dishes to share and all started coming out one after another over the next hour until the beef & broccoli was the last dish. Again, I attribute the slowness of the kitchen to their being so busy. At least all the food that came out was very fresh, tasty, and piping hot. Some interesting items that were quite good were their potatoes and green peppers. This dish is something I've never seen before but was pretty good! It features long julienned potatoes that they clearly soak in water before wok'ing with the peppers - that was all that was in the dish, but it was still tasty. Their Fish in Chili Oil & Bean Sprouts was really tasty and fresh! The fish is flounder. Their spicy wontons in chili oil were very popular with our group too. Service here was friendly too and helpful. Like I said, we tried many items, so many more than I just outlined and all were nice. I'd definitely return for a slightly more elevated Chinese menu from what you get at the typical Chinese-American joints.

While the exterior of the establishment appears quite understated and traditional, the interior is an absolute masterpiece utterly breathtaking from the moment you cross the threshold. My friend had very wisely arranged a reservation for me in advance. As I was dining solo tonight, I chose a beautifully convenient, intimate table that allowed me to fully take in the surroundings. The attention to detail here is extraordinary; the serene atmosphere, the curated decor, and even the traditional Chinese attire worn by the staff create a thoroughly immersive and sophisticated experience. I found it deeply admirable. The hospitality was nothing short of impeccable. A wonderfully gracious waiter welcomed me with immense warmth and escorted me to my seat, demonstrating a top-tier standard of service throughout the evening. To begin, I treated myself to a Lychee Cocktail my absolute favorite and it was mixed to perfection. Following a most pleasant conversation with my waiter, I decided on the Soup Dumplings for my main course. They were a absolute revelation extraordinarily fresh, delicate, and bursting with rich, complex flavors. It is no exaggeration to say that this establishment feels like a hidden paradise rediscovered. Between the flawless service, the stunning ambiance, and the culinary execution, it receives full marks from me. A magnificent experience

I otherwise would have specifically requested the order be made without the them. I am not a big fan of mushrooms and especially the fragrant kind like the shiitake variety. I feel like I had mouthfuls of mushrooms in each bite and that's all I tasted. Perhaps I will order something else they are more known for the next time I believe they specialize in Szechuan cuisine.

My family and I (5 people) came in to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday dinner and there was nobody but us in the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the server. He was dressed in jeans, hooded sweatshirt, a beanie and had a toothpick in his mouth. A bit out of the ordinary but to each their own for proper attire in what I would deem a upscale-ish restaurant. The real issue was him taking our order, seemed rushed. As we were deliberating and figuring out what we wanted. My girlfriend was talking about the scallion bubble pancakes. He came over and said, "I overheard you said the scallion pancakes, did you want to put in that order?" My girlfriend said no, she wanted everything to come out all at once. He said ok and then we walked off. Next thing we know, the pancakes came out WAY ahead of everything else we ordered. By like 15 minutes at least. When my girlfriend said something about it, the waiter said, he said outright " I never heard her say not to order them, she never said anything, and they are out right now". No apology, no I'll go ahead and fix that...nothing. When we we on the way out, we talked to the owner about the experience and the only thing he mentioned was that, the server was new and it's hard to find good employees because they revolve so quickly. Which wasn't really an answer at all. It was definitely a 180 degree turn from the first experience we had here which was 5 stars all around. I think given the experience, we unfortunately won't be coming back
