We stopped by for Macha latte. Nice little store with lots of people. Decoration is nice to look around while wait in line. They have lots to choose from. We had iced coconut cloud which was smooth and tasty. The Type 2 macha latte from kill green menu (competition grade which is available only at Mako) was delicious! No wonder this place is packed.

This place was so cute. I tried the strawberry cheesecake cake matcha and I give it a 7/10. The absolute STAR of the show which is not pictured here is the mochi they sell at the register. It's like a mango flavored small little pack of it that I brought back with me to California and I can't stop thinking about it.

Quick service. It seems like a great place to study and hangout. I've been heard a few times now and noticed that it has always been packed! The prices are low compared to other matcha shops in Portland. I got the mango matcha last time I went and it bit too sweet for my tasting. USA-leaves grown!

Got the Jasmine matcha and it was pretty good ! I appreciated that the Jasmine did not outshine the matcha (like many places do). It was the perfect sweetness and for a good price ! I think the matcha flavor could've been stronger but I can't wait to give this place and their other drinks more tries !!

I've been back several times since the soft opening and the experience always gets better. I like seeing the new decor that populates the shelves. It's also nice to see all the baristas behind the bar getting a hang of things. The matchas here compared to many other Portland spots is STRONG. This is perfect for me because I always could use the extra caffeine but if that's not your preference it might taste off to you. Also -- still don't know if they're serving their in-house milled matcha yet, so staying tuned for that. Matcha w/ strawberry syrup: 5/5. Great viscosity. I like my fruit syrups more jam-like and Mako's mixes well in the drink.

This newly opened matcha shop might just be a favorite for me! Although parking is a bit annoying as it is in downtown Portland, this cozy shop is a great spot to chat with a friend or get some work done. Their menu has some of the most affordable prices that I've seen and not only do they offer matcha, but they also offer teas and hojicha as well. They also have a variety of syrups to customize your drink and the option to switch to a milk alternative (oat) comes at no added cost. I got their matcha latte with jasmine syrup while my friend got their strawberry latte. Both were delicious but I thought the strawberry was better as the jasmine wasn't very fragrant (it was just sweet). Nonetheless, it was amazing and I would definitely come back.

An awesome new matcha spot! Inside is super pretty and cozy. They curated their space very well. I especially love the counter seats where you can watch the baristas in action. They have a rotating menu with fun syrups and cold foam. We tried the Match Latte and Latte with Ube Syrup. I honestly liked the Latte with Ube more than I thought! Perfectly creamy and sweet. The Matcha was alright to me, maybe it'd be better hot and with some sweetness. The Spam Musubi was a nice snack with our drinks. Prices were good as well. Would come back to try more!

Pretty convenient place to get matcha drinks and soft serve in the downtown Portland area. The matcha with mango swirl was a refreshing treat after lunch.

Nice ambiance, free wifi, bathroom, seats and tables. Service was fast and nice as well. Matcha was quite good, but the Matcha Jasmine Latte I got does not have any jasmine taste or fragrance at all. I'll just get a matcha latte next time.

Cute and spacious cafe nestled in downtown portland with beautiful wooden decor. We came about a week after opening on Sat, waited about 40 mins. Decent line but moved fast enough. A small 12oz matcha latte is $4 and large 20oz is $6. They use 4g matcha for small and 7g for large. We got the regular matcha latte and jasmine matcha latte. The only difference is the jasmine syrup! DEFINITELY get the jasmine matcha - it adds a subtle floral jasmine flavor that complements the matcha well. For the matcha itself, it has a lovely grassy with just the right amount of light bitterness to cut through the milk. The price is so affordable and refreshing for this day and age considering they mill their own matcha in store!! I'm not sure if there's any other matcha cafes in the US that mill their own matcha. They also hand whisk EACH drink instead of batching! This is my new fav matcha spot. Even though it's all the way in downtown, it's worth the drive and the wait.

    Hojicha & Jasmine Matcha Latte

We got the hojicha latte and the matcha latte and truly could not finish it. The drinks were chalky, and the matcha quality was just not there. Even though we asked for less sweetener and the sugar-free sweetener (which I believe they charge extra for in the case of the latter), the drinks were cloyingly sweet and you could not taste the hojicha or the matcha at all. I would probably not return or try another drink since the experience was so disappointing and there are now so many matcha places around. This place did not live up to the hype and I was overall extremely disappointed.

Love their matcha and the different types of quality they offer! I wish in the high quality matcha you can add syrup flavors but they do leave out a syrup bottle to add on your own. All of the matcha we got were good, reasonably price. The staff were so helpful explaining the difference on their menu and there's plenty of seating inside this small shop.

This reminds me of the Korean cafes that are sprinkled all over Southern California. We were delighted to see it here! I ordered a black sesame late and a black sesame mochi donut. Being only one barista, right after you order, he makes your drink immediately. You can hear and see the espresso shots being made and the ice filling your cups. Dependent on your order, he pulls out the cream for the top. I can see the black sesame cream top being very thick and full. A lot of patrons were ordering their tiramisu latte, and I don't blame them! It's what is very popular here. Personally, I enjoyed the black sesame latte very much. It was the perfect amount of cream and sweetness. The taste didn't overpower the coffee, which is nice. Their mochi donuts were good, too, with the consistency of mochi dough. Definitely would make another stop here if I'm ever around!

They are located outdoors within a repurposed trimet station, which add such a a unique Portland touch to their vibe. Although usually a 1-2 person operation, drinks always come out relatively quick! I tried the tiramisu latte and the black sesame latte. The tiramisu latte was easily my favorite. The cream top is rich and delicious, and when mixed into the coffee it really tastes like a classic tiramisu dessert. It's sweet, smooth, and feels like a treat without being overwhelming. The black sesame latte was also great, especially if you like nutty flavors. It has a natural sweetness with a deep roasted sesame taste that almost reminds me of peanut butter, making it both comforting and unique. I've also had their regular latte before and really appreciate the quality of their espresso. The coffee itself has a smooth, balanced flavor that stands out even without added syrups or toppings. A great spot to visit if you enjoy creative specialty drinks but still want genuinely good coffee underneath it all.

It manages to be effortlessly cool without being intimidating, and the quality of the coffee is consistently top-tier. Here is why it's my favorite corner of the Pearl District: The Coffee Curation: What sets Barista apart is that they are a multi-roaster cafe. They feature a rotating selection of the best beans from across the country (and locally!). Whether you're drinking a pour-over or a traditional macchiato, the flavor profiles are always distinct and expertly pulled. Masterful Latte Art: The baristas here are true artists. Every drink looks like a masterpiece, but more importantly, the milk texture is always silky and perfectly steamed. The Aesthetic: The space is stunning. With its dark wood accents, industrial-chic lighting, and those massive windows looking out onto the cobblestone streets of the Pearl, it's the perfect spot to people-watch or get lost in a book. It feels like a cozy, sophisticated library for coffee lovers. The Staff: Despite being one of the busiest spots in the neighborhood, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They are always happy to nerd out about tasting notes or help you pick a bag of beans to take home. The Vibe: It's a great balance of "neighborhood regular" and "must-visit destination." It captures that classic Portland energy perfectly. Pro Tip: Pair your drink with one of their fresh pastries--their selections are always fresh and complement a bold espresso perfectly. Love how amazing the staff is. And the coffee is chef's kiss. Thank you!

The vibe is definitely small bar coffee shop, probably more grab and go than dine in. For my visit, I opted for two espressos, their house blend and a Coava single origin. Unfortunately, both suffered from a grind that was a little too fine, resulting in bitterness that was overwhelming in each. The single origin had some promise, with some pleasant acidity in the background, but it couldn't break through the bitter. Things were a little better in my wife's mocha, which had a deep chocolate flavor and silky smooth milk, it paired well with the cinnamon knot pastry we shared. Maybe a place to stick with the milk drinks, or at least this was my experience on this day.
