It's worth the drive! I am such a big fan of the dry hotpot with extra servings of meat and ramen. The sauce is so well embedded into the toppings that every bite is a burst of salty spicy flavor. I ordered crawfish rice and hot chili dumplings, both are great. This restaurant has very good service and the taste is real Chinese style. They are good at controlling the fire and use the sauce. Pretty nice! The milk tea is also great! I ordered matcha flavor. read more

We've now been here 5 more months and been to Hong's 5 more times. It really is one of the best restaurants in town judging on food alone. The ambiance is still quirky, but there's always a table and service is decent. They also have a full bar. Now, that we have tried many more restaurants in the area, I can say with confidence they have the best authentic Chinese food, and it's very reasonably priced since the portions are big for family style sharing. The flavors are robust without being too salty. Great spice and consistently fresh. We've brought family here and got a big order of pork belly for take out. Always a hit! read more

This is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in EL. My husband and I love their foods and bubble tea: Taro, Jasmin-Green tea. What I like the most is that this restaurant is NOT Americanized at all. You can have as close foods as eating in China. You cannot expect to have like an American table service like little chatty or a couple time check ups by a wait person. But you can absolutely ask details about their menu or drink, also you need to call them when you need them for any thing. If you know that, you will happily have outstanding meals. Hong's Cafe is one of my family's go to restaurants!! The food is very authentic and their hotpots are so good! My personal favorite dishes are their Spicy beef and tendon as well as their Fried chicken with salt and pepper sauce. Their bubble tea is also really good and my go to is the lime green tea. read more

I tried this restaurant today and am so glad I did! It was quiet and clean, and smelled great. The staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was not to be missed. Even if I'm not hungry, I plan to stop there for a delicious hot rose tea or cold winter melon tea. I also recommend the pork chop rice and the Korean style tofu soup. read more

I have acquaintances who recently quit working there and keeps me updated on the location. Still no Organization! The OWNER STILL KEEPS ALL THE TIPS TO HIMSELF. No wonder why their employee turn over is still high! The Menu is still like the Meijer Inventory list! Thanks Yelp for helping me find Hong's Cafe. Agree with the other reviewers, this is authentic Chinese food, seems to be Taiwan style. We ordered the pork belly rice, beef noodle soup, duck egg congee, home style braised tofu, beef chow fun, and the veg of the day. In-laws polished off the congee, saying it was delicious. The family owner said they'll be updating the menu shortly, said they'll keep the same style which I hope they will! Bubble teas were also very good. read more

People smoke in here and the servers never check in on you. The food is decent if you are willing to eat with smokers. FYI they don't have windows in this building and the music is always on at extremely loud volume. Horrible environment with below average food. read more

As a non Asian it took several times walking in to stay and eat, this time with a Taiwanese friend. It is a very strange space. Huge with four pool tables in the middle and karaoke rooms around two sides. The servers did not seem comfortable with English but nearly everything on the menu is bilingual with the exception of fantastic noodle soups and daily specials. We had crispy fried Taiwanese chicken appetizer and two different spicy noodle soups. All tasty and Taiwanese influenced. Totally good food but be patient if you are not a Chinese speaker. Excellent flavors. My new favorite Chinese restaurant. If rating on food alone, it's definitely five stars. One less star due to lack of ambience. A little soft music would help. Although, I must add, it's nice to dine in a quiet place for a change of pace. We shared two entrees: Szechuan tofu and stir fried moo shu pork noodles. We ordered the tofu as spicy as they cook it and it was not terribly spicy, but the flavors were amazing. Best tofu I've ever had. I believe it had some ground pork topping it, so not strictly vegetarian. The moo shu pork noodles was wonderful. Wonderful blend of flavors and had egg, bok choy, green onion stalks, carrots, and other Chinese vegetables. The grape green tea was delicious. Tried Taro bubble tea for the first time. Very different! It was a bit too sweet for me, but very unique. It is open until 2:00 a.m. And features four nice pool tables. read more
