It's been a long time since we've been here, we used to come here all the time when they first opened many years ago. They were the first to have bubble tea anywhere. This place is cute and fits into the the college atmosphere in a K-Pop and fun way that wasn't even a thing when they first opened. Visiting here brought back so many memories of college and the food is as I remember it. I've had so many variations of Chinese, Japanese and Korean food over the years but this place brings back the memories and basics in food. It's not fancy, it's just simple food in a fun place with an eclectic collection of flavors and sights. So nostalgic to be here again. The owner is funny and personable just as he was long ago. Noodles are great, everything just tastes good. Boba is great as well. The owners are great, gave recommendation to us as well.

Me and a few friends were looking for a late night snack and this place was the closest within walking distance so we thought why not? Big mistake. While the food itself was mediocre, (we got the seafood udon and beef noodle soup, I didn't like the rice cakes in the udon) the seating area was terrible. The tables were really grimey & dirty. There wasn't anywhere to hang our coats so we held onto them the entire time. I also noticed a mini "refridgerator" that was barely holding some free appetizers like potato salad a little under room temperature -- definitely a food hazard. The place also has some...interesting...decor choices. They have one small wall filled with pictures of people kissing and another part of the wall filled with random sticky notes. While it's nice they are trying to make it more personal we found it a turn off. On top of that, they had some seats on the bar made of old toilets. It seems like it was an after thought because it doesn't fit the rest of the restaurant decor. Really strange place and I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe if we had just gotten bubble tea to go it would've been better. read more

A great little eclectic gem near campus! There's parking, as well as indoor and outdoor seating. It's open late, perfect for night owls and party goers alike! The interior is very creative and has a great sense of fun - there's a wall of photos of past patrons kissing, another wall of photos with the owner, as well as a wall of post it's with various doodles and messages from patrons. But that's not all! There's also a punching bag shaped like a man, an exercise bike, an old-fashioned scale, board games, table top games and one counter lined with toilet seats as bar stools. There's a fair selection of udon noodle soups, ramen, sushi rolls, and bubble tea. The menu is cleverly attached to the ceiling with pictures. And the bubble tea offerings are shown deconstructed in plastic cups. The food is quite good and the owner is extremely friendly and loves to have fun. We watched him engage in an arm wrestling contest with a college student. He should think about moonlighting as a stand up comedian. I've had great experiences here, and I've had terrible ones. Most of the time the food is great! Super tasty and it's open late which is helpful for East Lansing. However, last night I got the seafood pancake and it was sadly one of the grossest things I've eaten in a long time. The fish, specifically the octopus, was cooked pretty poorly and had the consistency of a rubber tire. I couldn't even swallow my second bite and had to throw it out, a waste of $15. On the bright side, their fried dumplings were DANK. It's a good spot, but maybe just avoid any of their seafood for your own safety. read more

Love this place! Not much sushi actually but delicious soup and rice bowls. Very casual dining, there is a cooler for water and coffee and a cooler with coke cans. Food is so good and there is lots of it. Don't expect a fancy sushi restaurant, just a super yummy one. read more

This place may be small and a bit grimy, but the food is nothing like this. When you first walk in, you may walk straight up to the counter to order and pay for your food. Where is the menu you ask? Just look up to the ceiling and see the yummy foods you can order. I have been here about four times now and it has been consistently delicious. I have to admit that many of the times I was a tad tipsy while eating their food, but it's still good when I'm sober. My dining companions and I have had the following dishes: Potato Salad, Bean Sprouts, & Kimichi: It's all free and in the clear mini fridge for you to take. Everything is wonderfully seasoned. I don't like potato salad, but theirs is wonderful. Spicy wings: So yummy! Flavorful sauce and tender wings! Love them! Beef Noodle Soup: Tasted like Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup and was delicious. Beef is so tender, noodles are soft, sliced glutinous rice balls are chewy, and broth is aromatic. I added a bit more soy sauce and spice in my soup, but I tend to like more saltier and spicier broth. Seafood pancake: This is the BEST thing they have here. I LOVE this dish. It comes with a light soy sauce infused with green onion and it's perfect with the seafood pancake. They do not skimp on the seafood here. Be warned: sometimes they don't de-vein the shrimp, but I don't care. It's still good to me. Some might cringe at the price, $12 for this dish, but I think it's well worth it since it is a huge portion with tons of seafood and most importantly, it's freaking delicious! We've also tried the honeydew and taro bubbleteas, and they were decent. Maybe I'll try other different flavors another day. This place is definitely a bit off-beaten and odd, to say the least. It is my favorite late night noodle soup stop. The owner has lived and traveled the regions his food reflects. That's why there's a little Japanese, a little Korean, and a little Chinese. The food has been consistently great for the entire time I've gone, although the menu doesn't change much. There's a large selection of noodle and dumpling soups to choose from, my personal favorites are the Chinese Beef Noodle and Seafood Noodle soups. For those not in a soup mood, there are Korean potato pancakes, kalbi (not everyday), teriyaki chicken, dumplings, and generic sushi rolls (California roll, Inari sushi, eel roll). But the best part of ordering dinner, are the sides offered in the mini fridge --- seafood potato salad, kimchee, and sesame sprouts, they are free with a food purchase. In addition to food, there is a large assortment of Bubble Teas. Whether you want the normal sounding flavors (coke, apple, pineapple, etc) or exotic (milk tea, taro, red bean, etc), they have several to choose from. I went to Udon Sushi at the high recommendations of friends, but sadly it turned out to be one of the most disappointing places to eat that I've ever been to. The Pros + The Boba tea was decent. They had a ton of different flavors and was relatively cheap. The Cons - It's MISERABLY Uncomfortable inside. They didn't run the air conditioning. In July, it was 80-90 degrees and as humid as a jungle indoors. It was 8:00pm and it was still oppressively muggy and hot, so much so that we had to leave because we were all dripping with sweat. In addition - they don't have the decency to give you a menu. It's printed on cards and pasted to the ceiling so you have to stare upwards in order to order. - The Food was gross. I've visited Korea & lived in Japan for almost 4 years and I've never seen food like this before. I can only describe it as an amalgamation of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese food all thrown randomly together in a pot in a over-simplistic and slapstick manner. This would have been acceptable but it's clearly the poorest-quality / cheapest ingredients around that was thrown together at complete randomness. None of the flavors or textures worked well together - it's almost as if they don't know what Japanese/Korean/Chinese food even is. I personally had the hot-pot soup which looked like a chinese ramen-like soup but was NOTHING like the picture. It was LITERALLY 2 boiled packages of cheap Maruchan Ramen (No Joke, It is only 30 cents worth of packaged ramen) with a cup of tteok-bokki/watered down kimchi sauce, and 2 entire artificial crab sticks thrown on top - all on a paper plate that disintegrated before I was done with the meal. The hotpot was maybe $10 for maybe 80¢ worth of fake cardboard-food. For a little perspective, for $10 in Japan you could get a bowl of handcut made-daily noodles with slow roasted pork broth and sesame oil with braised pork and a marinated egg vs. this lie on a plate. My friend ordered the seafood pancake, which I was expecting to be similar to perhaps an okonomiyaki, but it was a huge blob of octopus and artificial crab in greasy burnt batter. It looked horrific but at least it tasted okay although it was super chewy and awkward to eat and I would hardly call it a full or balanced meal. There wasn't a single authentic item on the menu true to any country which authenticity doesn't matter IF it least tasted good, but it doesn't. All the food tastes exactly like it looks. - It is Dirty Inside. Not dirty as in garbage all over the floor - but more dirty like the walls have never been washed and are a bit scummy. They even have old broken toilets for chairs. It's got personality, but it's also not clean. Also, it appears they store their food directly on the floor in the back room. In Summary - I can not find words to express how much I recommend staying away from this place. It's extremely unpleasant to be inside. The food is dismal. Honestly, you can do far far better for the price. This is the lowest standard of a restaurant I've ever been to and I've eaten at places with "Condoms" in the name, and it was far better than this. read more

This is a new favorite. Authenticity. I don't know the history but it's evident the owner loves and lives here. The crowd is like being in a foreign place and I love it. Unlike being in a small town American diner, I'm not stared at as an outsider. First the eclecticism of the decor, pictures of patrons, the owner and his progression/aging, his wife and family, toilet barseats, a punching dummy, a kissing wall! The menu is on the ceiling with a camera pointed right at you for entertainment and security value I suppose. Theres a large imposing TV playing pop korean (i think) hits that mirror commercial music here. I went for sushi because this is the only place I could find who serves sushi after 9 pm in all of Lansing. Most of the people, all of the people, had udon bowls so I will be back. The sushi menu is limited but I loved my simple and plain sushi roll that included things I believe were bamboo shoots and others I cannot name. What draws me in, what fills my love is their wasabi. OhEmGee! This place must have an inside man on the wasabi market. This was not just green horseradish, this was sweet and warm heat. The heat radiated from the roof of my mouth not my tongue, amazingly. My sinus cavities were open but I kept eating it long after my sushi was gone. They had a library of bubble teas and flavors. Get this I order my tea to go and it was sealed for safe travel! Dope! The hours are late for the student crowd and I like that. Criticism: Cash only but I'm good with that. If so, it was not a "traditional" cut - nor was it what I have gotten for the past year. Service is always poor, but I can deal with that for great food. The decor brings to mind a hyper charged Japanese TV show, replete with toilet seats to sit upon and pictures of couples kisses adorning the walls. The food is likewise unique. The hot pot won't be anything like you expect. Whether you'll appreciate that or not depends on your preference, but I appreciate the novelty of what essentially tastes like a college/ramen take on the traditional. Woman makes food in large pots and canteens like one might see in a hole in the wall restaurant in Soeul, Korea. Tile floors and large metal pots really make you wonder if you are still in the US? or if you were transported into a foreign place and time! Service wasn't great though it may have been cultural or maybe I just looked a bit out of place. Guy wasn't overly friendly and people who arrived after me got their plates 10mins before I got mine. Maybe group after me ordered something more common than the rice porridge. The ramen seems to be the most ordered dish here, and mine seemed a little more authentic, obscure and less likely to be ordered by hungry ramen-chowing college students. I ordered my porridge without chicken, just seafood and they were very generous with the amount of shrimp and crab meat that swam around in my cup. Prices are super cheap for the quality and deliciousness of the food and portion sizes. They sell all kinds of boba drinks. Udon Sushi is a cultural gem tucked away near a Domino's pizza and a Jimmy Johns off of a main street in Lansing. It's an authentic dive with exquisite food. Udon Sushi Bakery is amazing, from the menu to the owner. The food is cheap, no tax (cash only system), and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. You can't beat having the option to get grilled eel or lokbukgee or udon at 3am. The decor may seem strange to some, but if you're familiar with the owner, then you will totally get it (and you'll probably be in some of the pictures). There is a lot to do here and there is always something interesting on TV, mostly from Korean or Chinese channels. This is hands down my favorite restaurant for a good bowl of beef noodle soup. The soup is spicy and delicious, and I've never had a better bowl ANYWHERE. That they have bubble tea is an additional bonus. We drive over an hour to come eat here... it is THAT good. If ratings were based solely on food, I'd give them something like a 10 out of 5 stars. Udon has been a favorite of mine for many years now, since I attended the Lansing Chinese School in high school and came for dinner after class on Saturday nights. My favorite meal is the Cut Fresh Noodle and my favorite tea flavor is passion fruit. I was impressed with takeout during Covid times - everything was so well-packaged that nothing spilled, portions were as large as they are in-person, and the appetizers were even included on the side, free of charge. My husband and I walked in and didn't know what to do ---- interesting set up and decor ----- sofas, wooden stools, coffee tables, and counters, oh my! The owner approached us and asked what we would like ---- my husband said, "Dinner for two" and the owner goes, "No, you order here then sit." Oh --- GOT IT! My hubby ordered the Spicy Beef Tofu Soup, I ordered the Spicy Chicken Tofu, and a plate of pot stickers. While we waited, there was a mini fridge full of all you can eat (and get it yourself) kim chi, seasoned bean sprouts, and potato salad --- potato salad was my FAV --- it was a mix of sweet and savory, with bits of garlic, green onion --- YUM! They also have all you can drink (and get) warm rice tea. Our spicy soups came and they were pretty decent --- my chicken was cooked to perfection --- not rubbery or dry. As an MSU Alum, I can tell you this place is a hidden gem...I didn't even discover it until a couple years after I'd graduated! I hope no one else makes the same mistake. The owner and head chef, Tony, is one of the coolest guy's I've ever met...if it's not too busy take some time to get to know him. The food is authentic and the ambience is spectacularly college town. There are a lot of cool knick knacks, scattered throughout the place giving it a sort of "hangout" feel. The seating is set up so that there are stools, couches, toilet bowls (ya you read that right) along with regular seating. On to the important stuff, the food! Attention People: get outside your comfort zone and try something other than the sushi! This is some of the most authentic Asian food you will find anywhere. My favorites: Start with the sides, the kimchi, bean sprouts and potatoes are divine...eat up, it's unlimited. Seafood pancake, you simply must try it. The servings of seafood are more generous then I've ever encountered and the batter is crisp and fluffy. Heaven on a plate is how I'd describe it. Tight. The decor is crazy, the owners are great,the food is great. The first time I came here I walked out overwhelmed, and walked out without ordering. Then I went back and tried the shin ramen - like special ramen, with these incredibly tasty rice/dough cakes. There are appetizers (sign on refrigerator: not free! only included with dinner) of your choosing. There are bubble teas (get mango). There is sushi, albeit the most limited selection you'll see in a restaurant (cucumber, california, special). Hope this adds to what other reviewers have already gotten right. read more
