We went with the chicken egg foo young and it was the favorite out of all the entrees. When it came to the fried rice, beef lo mein and egg roll, we were left dissatisfied. While lacking in flavor, they all had a weird distinct taste that we couldn't put our finger on. I can't say we will be back anytime soon. read more

Two words... Hidden Gem! Wow! We ordered carry out from Wok & Roll on a whim and were super impressed with our first visit! The chicken egg rolls were huge and delicious, and the portions of our entrees were filling. I ordered Mongolian beef and normally when I see that little red chili pepper next to the name of the dish, I'm disappointed that it isn't at all spicy when I take my first bite. Not this time! The Mongolian beef was making my nose run! I also enjoyed the fried rice - it was loaded with vegetables and scrambled egg, and it was not dry like some Chinese carry out is. My significant other ordered the Double Delight and said it had great flavor and was some of the best Chinese carry out he has had in a while. We both thought the sauce flavors and quality of ingredients were above average, and we are looking forward to our next visit to see how consistent their dishes are. If you're looking for truly authentic Chinese food, this is a must. Definitely get the roast pork with tofu bow ties! It is SO good. This is a very authentic dish, something that my mom would make at home for our family. The mapo tofu is also really good. The tofu is a perfect softness, and it is spiced to perfection. It is not overwhelmingly spicy and incredibly savory. You can always ask for more rice, which is very nice because the portions are huge, and you will surely have left overs! I would say one dish can easily feed two people. The dishes are reasonably price for their portions. They run between $9-15. Definitely check this place out! read more

We order take out from here regularly, and it's always good. Tonight it was amazingly delicious! We got Generals chicken, beef and broccoli, egg rolls and crab Rangoon. Great portion sizes and everything is always hot. We always get General's chicken but today it just tasted better than usual. The egg rolls also tasted better. Kind cashier gave me some time to review the menu while she attended to the other customers in the store. I asked her a couple of questions about how some items were prepared and decided on the chicken and broccoli. She said it'd ready in five minutes and sure enough she was bringing out my order. The chicken (white meat) and broccoli were cooked well and was well seasoned and not overly sauced. The quart size was served with a pint of white rice and was well priced. After reading all the funny reviews on this place on how mean the lady at the front is, I had to come to this place to try it out. Mostly because I knew if people thought the Asian lady at the front cashier was mean, that means its legit. I was right. Its looks like a hole in the wall joint in a small strip mall next to the gas station. When I walked in only 3 people were eating inside. I walked up to the counter and the menu indeed was in Chinese. I ignored the other "regular" menu since it was the generic asian-american items. I asked for the thousand year old egg and tofu but they were out of the eggs so I went with the Ma Po Tofu and the tomato egg soup. Ma Po Tofu is a spicy dish with soft tofu and minced pork. The tomato egg soup is a light clear broth with of course, eggs and tomatoes. The tofu was 8.99 and the soup was 6.99. both reasonably priced. I also purchased a chrysanthemum tea for $1.10. Altogether came out to about $18. It was alot of food. I ate this meal twice and even heated up it was delicious. This is easily the best Ma Po tofu I have ever had. Most of the places make it generic with diced carrots and peas. Wok & Roll's tofu was spicy and very appetizing with rice. All in all, I am so glad I found this place. The lady was nice enough, its what you expect at authentic Chinese restaurants. So ,my advice for those that cant hack it trying to order here, lighten up or go to Panda Express for your Chinese food fix. read more

Close to home so decided to try it for lunch today. Called in my order and the lady was nice enough. It was ready when I arrived 20min later. Kung Pao shrimp lunch special is very tasty and the best thing I ordered. Good amount of diced veggies and flavor was spot on. Not too spicy, but I usually add my own chili flakes anyway. I ordered hot and sour soup with it, and that was very bland. Mostly sour without much other seasoning. Wouldn't order that again. I also ordered the Moo Shu chicken based in the other reviews. This was pretty bad. It was too salty and soggy. Definitely no need for the hoisin. It was 95% cabbage with bits of carrots and onion. I'm used to more al dente veggies, less salt, less liquid, and more variety of veggies like mushrooms and bamboo. Big dinner portion, but I'll need to modify it to make it edible. Also, they do not give you true moo shu pancakes. They give you spring roll wrappers, which are a cheap substitution. I think their standard dishes are probably fine but it is trial and error. I've opted for pick up a few times as I work nearby. The customer service and promptness has always been great. The food isn't particularly the best Asian take out I've ever had, but it's not bad by any means. If you're in the mood for Asian food this is a good option. It looks like there are many options, which I have yet to try, but based on other great reviews I'm assuming they're promising. Over the year this place has become the go-to place for my wife and I when we want good Chinese food. Order off their Chinese menu (which has English translations) the portion is huge and delicious. They also have seasonal dishes on the whiteboard above the water cooler. The owners are "friendlier" if you have dark hair and speaks Mandarin, but they are generally good to all their customers. They changed to cash-only last year, which make it a little less convenient, but understandable. As a small family business, I guess they didn't want credit card companies taking all their profit. To start, I'm rating this a 4 because I knew what I was getting into. This restaurant is run by immigrants for immigrants and international students. They welcome your money, not you. They are there to support Chinese students and immigrants. Don't come here if you think Chinese food is what you're ordering at Rice Kitchen. Do not order off the English Menu. Also, they do have menus in Korean, which helped me be able to order, not sure if that would help anyone else, but it is an option. If you're going to eat in the restaurant (which is not big, let the international kids eat there, they have KTV and Chinese soaps playing on the tv for them), the owners charge you a couple bucks extra for rice. If you take your food to go, it doesn't cost anything extra. All that being said, the food is delicious. 10/10 would recommend. The service is what you would expect in this sort of environment, however. The food is out quick, which is for the best given there are only two chairs in a corner as the "waiting area." So don't be intimidated to come here, just take everything with a grain of salt. Remember though kids, this place is cash only. read more

I've been here twice, and both time have been fantastic! I just ordered off their lunch menu, and got a big bowl of fried rice, hunan shrimp and a can of pop for $5. Great deal! The shrimp is cooked perfectly and the veggies taste so fresh. Last time we went I got Mu Shu Vegetables- and they were the best I'd ever had. Suuuuuper thin wraps and so good. I've eaten here enough times to give a fair rating and I've decided they deserve a 4 in my book. I wouldn't say this is the best Chinese food I've ever had but I will say that it's not swimming in grease like a lot of Americanized Chinese food is. A lot of Chinese food tastes the same to me, with certain variations here and there and Wok and Roll has food that tastes like it could have been made at any number of other Chinese food places I've been to in the U.S. But they are consistent and the food is always hot, fresh, and a lot healthier than I've had at many other places, thanks to that missing pool of grease. It's tasty and their portions are generous. It took the woman who takes the orders awhile to warm up to us but she knows our faces now and she's started smiling at us. In the early days we barely got a grunt. The last time we went in she forgot to include my egg roll in the takeout bag and when I called she had realized her error and only rang in the amount of the bill, rather than including the tip I left, which was a bit more than the cost of the egg roll. I've tried several other Chinese food restaurants in this area and this is my favorite. Their prices are reasonable and the place always smells like Chinese five spice when I walk in. I like their Wuxi ribs, yinyugeng, and Yangzhou tofu. I order them all the time. One time I tried their eggplant dish. It was good, too. The lady owner is nice to me all the time. I never have any problems with her. Another reason I like their food is that I don't feel thirsty after eating there. Most Chinese restaurants make me feel very thirsty after. First time visit for us and it is probably our last. 1. The place is set up like a "TO-GO" joint so we ordered at the walk-up counter only to discover that they do wait on tables. Why didn't she tell us that when she asked if it was to go? 2. The lady was very, very UN-friendly. Precisely why we don't eat at their competitor to the west. 3. No fountain drinks. 4. Then, the final snub: At first I thought I was imagining this but as the tables filled up, it was very obvious. Every table occupied by Asian-looking customers was served with individual ceramic bowls/plates and large ceramic bowls for the rice and the main dish. Our meal was shoved in front of us with the rice on a paper plate and the main dish in a ceramic bowl. No separate bowls or plates to serve our portions. I noticed one other American-Caucasian-looking fellow and his soup was served in a to-go container. Oh, we also were given plastic to-go forks (the extreme cheap-o type while the Asians were supplied with cutlery (or sticks). 5. Their food is so good and fresh. My favorite is their pork with bean curd. They use pork belly without skins which reduces unwanted oil and smell of pork. Honestly, their wonton soup was awful; old tasting filling in the wontons (what I call garbage tasting wontons) and the the little crisps tasted like old grease. The restaurant has two menus which offer both American Chinese and Chinese Chinese. The food is authentic and delicious. The chicken soup is amazing and the fat pork with dry tofu 红烧肉 is great.
