The e bikes are modern with 5 gear levels and they also have an accelerator on the handle if you don't feel like biking. I got some great Japanese food recommendations from Ryan and his wife at the end of the tour. Ryan takes pictures during the hike ride and sends you a google drive shortly after the tour ends.

We drove around different trails, got to see nice views and some animals along the way, which was cool. We came about a month after the storms, so the scenery wasn't at its absolute best, but that's totally understandable and not a complaint at all. It is pretty expensive though, around $130 per person, and feeding the animals was an extra $10 for small pellets to feed the cows and goats. The views and experience were still nice, but for the price, we expected the overall service to feel a little more polished. The main thing that stood out was the guides. We had two guides and they were both really quiet and awkward. They didn't really explain much or try to interact with us, which made the vibe feel uncomfortable at times. My boyfriend and I even tried making conversation, but they just weren't very chatty. It honestly felt kind of tense the whole ride. At the end, things got even more awkward because one of the guides basically disappeared without saying goodbye or telling us what to do next. We were just standing there confused with our gear, not knowing where to put anything or whether we were supposed to check out somewhere. The other guide mentioned they had just started working there and wasn't sure what the next steps were either, which is understandable, but it still felt a little unprofessional considering how much the experience cost. Also, when booking, there was a section asking if we were celebrating anything, and I mentioned it was my boyfriend's birthday. We weren't expecting anything free or over-the-top, but it would've been nice if someone had at least acknowledged it since they specifically asked during booking. Overall, the ATV ride and scenery were fun, but the customer service and overall organization definitely could've been better for the price point.

The first time I was 3rd place overall, and the second time I was 1st place overall. Big props to an event like this, for having so many races going on all at once. They have a 5k, 10k, Sprint, Olympic Triathlon; not to mention the youth, and kids races also. Great event, and it is very well set up; the volunteer support is great, and also everyone that participates in this event gets a finishers medal. Anyone looking for a triathlon on the island of Oahu; this is a very great one, and well worth training for. My advice is if you're an elite athlete pay attention to the route; study it! There are many cones to follow, and if you take a wrong turn you may get disqualified. Other than that, enjoy! Aloha!

Aspiring triathletes and veteran triathletes train for months for this race. I, myself, dedicated a good 4 months training for this race. I set up my workouts for 5-6 days a week, consisting of two short 5:30AM workout sessions before work (either run or swim), two afterwork brick sessions (bike + run, or swim + run) with Try Fitness team (tryfitnesshawaii.com) and two looooooong 7AM brick workout sessions (one with Try Fitness team) on the weekend. Finally, the day came... The Honolulu Triathlon. Ready or not, I would embark this 1500m swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run with elite athletes, locals, mainlanders, and international participants. This is a wonderful and well laid out course for the newbie, for the out of towner and especially for the long time triathlete that just wants to have fun and be fit with friends. Furthermore, the location allows for a large number of participants, over 1500 participants a year usually. The swim portion was the main reason for me to sign up for this course. It is a long 1500m, but the water at Ala Moana Beach Park is flat. As coral surrounds this area, the water is protected from waves and certain ocean critters. This makes it great for the newbie to try out a triathlon of this distance. The swim portion of this race is a straight line, out and back. We started from Magic Island and then swam almost the end of the park water and then back. The water here is a relatively decent size, capable of fitting a large number of swimmers. The bike portion of this race was relatively easy. The road is a flat out and back. With the exception of a slight incline on the way out to Aloha Stadium, it was relatively flat. Flats are my strengths, so the course was in my favor. The run portion was a bit confusing but yet nice for spectators. Since the park is a bit small, participants had to run around the park twice. On the second loop, participants had to make sure to get a band and place it on the right wrist. This could have been a bit confusing for participants. The upside to running around in a loop was that spectators did not have to move around to watch their favorite participants. I finished the race, tired, hot, exhausted but feeling well accomplished. My first completed "Olympic" distance triathlon was under my belt. Next year Honolulu Tri, next year, we will meet again! Who's up for the challenge?

Prior to our vacation, I signed up all three children for surf lessons ahead of time. The process…read morewas uncomplicated, my confirmation arrived via email within minutes, and all was set. The day arrived for the lesson and the kids were super eager. After meeting their instructors, we took a short walk to the beach. Everything was explained to us. We were all on the same page as far as making sure the kids understood what they're going to do, and my apprehension was put at ease. The two older kids (ages 9 and 8) were totally having the time of their lives. They rode tandem with the instructors and were surfing as if they'd been doing this forever by the end of their session. The little one (6 years old) had a little bit of a mishap. As he paddled out to ride a wave with his instructor, he wiped out - waves all over him, surfboard in the air, exactly what I had been anguishing over. My son and his instructor both recovered. The instructor tried getting him back on the board, but he wasn't having it anymore. The instructor brought him back to us to shore. We tried coaxing him back to surf, but fear already set in. Even my daughter's instructor tried getting him on the board with them, but he refused. Nevertheless, the experience was really cool. The instructors were relaxed and patient. They gave us great photo opportunities. The best part was the two older children were inspired to go out and surf some more.

When I called, they said they were short staffed so they would only be open 11-3, totally get it. It's a small business and would love to support them but thought that was weird to preface a customer with " yeah you can rent but we are barley open today" 2. When we got there Roger seemed accommodating, we rented for 2 hours, but he asked us to return closer to 3 because he had to bring guests back to their hotel. We didn't need or want the extra hour but again obliged to help a small business we had young children with us and knew they wouldn't hold interest, plus it was pretty windy for the little dudes. 3. When my husband went to bring the items back Roger was 40 minutes late! So we waited an extra hour to turn in the rentals and then an additional 40 minutes waiting on Roger. 4. Then i realized my card was charged an extra $54.00. Attempted to communicate with the business via their 2 phone numbers and email... took a week after countless voicemails etc. 5. When i finally got a call back they said they undercharged us and fixed their mistake. Fine, understood. However, a notification would have been nice since i signed for the amount upon rental agreement. I just found this whole thing so unprofessional and disorganized. I was pretty upset we had to intention of doing business here again and sending others.

The 3 women crew were confident and capable from the Captain to her first mates! We motored out to Shark's Cove, and saw a huge pod of spinner dolphins on the way! Once the anchor was dropped, we snorkeled where we saw plenty of coral, fish, and two sea turtles! We loaded back onto the Cat for lunch with drinks and a sail back to the dock with our 3 women crew really showing their skills by unfurling the sails! They were well organized from having sandwiches nicely displayed after the snorkel to the shoes being displayed on dock after the excursion! They had every detail well thought out and planned which kept things running smoothly! Be sure to use the restrooms at the dock before boarding; otherwise, you're contributing to the toxins in the sea during the snorkel! ‍

The catamaran is the way to see the whales (IMHO) because you sit on an unobstructed mesh net between the hulls or on the hulls, and can see everything without any blockages. Our trip was about 2 hours with another couple on the boat. When we were about 10 minutes into the voyage, we spotted the first whale pod of a baby whale, the mom and another adult. It was magical to get so close to them (100 yards by law), hear them blow the water and flop around in the ocean. Taylor and Brewski couldn't have been nicer locals and great hosts on the boat. After reviewing a few hikes on Alltrails decided to give this one a try…read more Parked in front of the County Yard near the trailhead and headed out. Would be very helpful to have Alltrails since there are many trails off it, used by mountain bikers. The trail at the time was fairly dry given the rain we had a few days ago. The trail zig zagged its way up and down through hills, with heavy rain fall there could be streams flowing over it. Would not recommend during heavy rainfall for this reason. The trail is fairly easy, although watch out for mountain bikers. We only saw one rider and a trail runner. It was a weekday, weekend is probably busy. A number of views of ocean and mountains to take in. We clocked in over 6 miles which including the old road to create a loop and bring us back to car. Elevation change was at least 1100, so gradual you really do not notice it. Worth hike at least once, dog friendly, hunting is not allowed in area.

My homeboy even rented a Honda element to help transport 2 full sized e bikes!!! Don't underestimate this spot as it can be very narrow and close to the edge. However, if you respect the trail, and don't try to go too far beyond your level, then you should be fine and have a great time! Tips include bringing a snack and chilling at a hide away park bench overlooking the cliff side.
