Just had my birthday not too long ago and decided it was time for a change. What better way to celebrate than with my first piercing! After doing a ton of research, all signs pointed to Honolulu Piercing Company. The whole experience was seamless from start to finish. I booked a same-day appointment with Mel online, and when I called to let them know I'd be a little late due to traffic, they were super understanding. Onyx was incredibly welcoming and helpful, guiding me through my options and helping me pick out my first piece of jewelry. I ended up going with the 5mm rose gold hammered disc, and it turned out perfect for my lobe piercing. I was a bit nervous, but Mel explained everything clearly and even joked that plucking a beard hair is worse, which turned out to be true. I barely felt a thing. The shop itself is spotless, located in Kailua with ample parking, which made the whole visit even smoother. Another big plus: Honolulu Piercing Company is APP certified (Association of Professional Piercers) and uses only implant-grade jewelry. The quality and safety of the shop are top tier. The pricing may be a bit on the higher end, depending on what jewelry you get, but for something going into your body, it's 100% worth it. Can't wait to go back in about five weeks to downsize the backing and maybe try another disc while I'm at it!

Such a great experience here. Front desk was super helpful and my piercer Ryan was amazing! He was great at helping me find a piercing that worked well with my ear anatomy. He made it easy, quick, and painless. I got my full rook and felt nothing. Definitely coming back for more when this heals.

    different colored piercings

Originally I wanted to go with the real gold piercing option but was convinced that the titanium, painted option would be a better fit. I went with this option, and the jewelry is two different colors. I was aware that the color may fade over time, but in the salon, the colors were different from the start. I mentioned this, he convinced me otherwise, and now looking at it outside of the salon, it is two different colors. On top of this, Tony is rude. He asked if I have stretched my ears before, in regards to my extremely old piercings that are admittedly stretched and somewhat of an insecurity. I told him no not intentionally so, and he followed up with the statement that my earlobe will tear all the way through in 15 years if I keep up with "that shit". He started to pierce my other friend and then brought up my first piercing again, telling me he could pop a gauge in right then, doubling down. So not only was I not happy with the jewelry, but also uncomfortable with the piercing environment that he created. He also went on to complain that women piercers get booked more than him, even though he was more experienced than them, and honestly after this experience I get why.

Tony is AWESOME and makes sure you're well informed and the whole process is quick and easy. He's my go to guy and Honolulu Piercing Company is the place to go to!

We are from Kaua'i. Took our 7yo daughter to do her first piercings. I scheduled with Tony because I read his bio that he has over 20 years experience. Our experience is perfect. Tony did great job walking through us the entire procedure. I can tell he wants nothing but perfect. He is very great with kids as well. Totally worth the trip and the price! Vanisa also did perfect job on helping my daughter with jewelry selection. She's very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

    Lobe piercing (Day 1)

First off their new Kaimuki store is GORGEOUS. I love the way they set up their displays it showcases how designer and high end HPC Jewelry can be. The staff is so charming and homely which is the vibe you want to look for if this is your first piercing. The front desk helped me calm down my nerves by engaging in conversation with me. The place is clean and sanitary (it is a brand new store) which is a tell tale sign that they take their cleanliness seriously. Bronson was such a delight to have as my piercer. He made me and my husband feel comfortable and when it was a bit uncomfortable he helped to soothe me. I have yet to see the piercing healed. But I'm so looking forward to getting more by this shop. I love them and their professional service. They don't mess around with the placement of the pieces either.

Yelp brought me here. I was in waikiki for a Yelp event and I knew there's a piercing place nearby so I ended up here! I had my helix pierced before, but it gotten itchy and I removed the stud too soon, next thing I knew the hole closed up. I've always wanted to get it done again but I just never acted on it. Fast forward 7-8 years later, I decided I just had to do it so here I am. Booking an appointment on their website was easy. Walk-ins shouldn't be a problem too if it's during the week I suppose, unless there's a specific person you'd like to have. I chose Bronson after I read some of the reviews and I had a great experience. The place looks clean and it has individual rooms. I was a little nervous because it's my first time getting a piercing by hand. My 3 lobe piercings were all done by a gun, and my old cartilage one was done at Claire's with a gun too. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or I just didn't take care of my piercing well, it got itchy so I removed it and it closed up, so I thought maybe I should do something different and see if it would help. (Hope it will. Will write an update in a few months.) Bronson was gentle and patient to explain what should expect and the aftercare to me. I showed him my old piercing and he saw the scar and marked it with some ink. He handed me a mirror to see if that's where I like to have it. I also asked for his opinion if that's a good spot for helix piercing and he said it looked fine. I lied down and he got into position. After inhaling a big breath he did it very fast on my exhale and it was really just a pinch; my son pinched me harder than this many times by accident lol. After the piercing he put the stud in. My ear started to heat up but that's normal. It was a smooth and easy process. I like how their aftercare instructions are so simple and easy to follow. Bronson also explained to me the downside of using different antibacterial stuff that can cause more harm than good. Stick with water and saline rinse and never touch the piercing for a while! I also like the little card they gave me to take home. It had all the info of the piercing and the healing time. I don't remember Claire's telling me that much info. I think the lack of awareness was also part of the reason why my first piercing got irritated and closed up. I picked the titanium stud from NeoMetal. I looked up the company later and it manufactures implant grade titanium and specializes in jewelry for piercing; that's very assuring. (Excuse my lack of knowledge in body piercing.) The whole process including tax cost around $85 with a big bottle of neilmed saline spray included but not including tip. Overall I'm happy with my experience! I hope it'll heal well this time. Thank you, Bronson!

Finally took the plunge to get my first ever piercing here! I walked in on a Monday afternoon and there was a bit of a wait for walk-ins. You can also make same day appointments here and they don't ask you for your card details, but just make sure you actually show up. Everyone at the shop is APP certified which really put me at ease. Jade at the counter was so nice and patient with answering all my questions. Mel was my piercer and she was so friendly and really helped calm my nerves. The piercing itself barely hurt at all (like less than when I get my vaccines sometimes) - Mel was so skilled! She also took the time to give great suggestions on placement to make sure that the spot was to my liking. Since I'm not from the area, Mel gave a bunch of great suggestions for piercing studios near me for downsizing in a few weeks. They have a great selection of jewelry here including BVLA. I opted for Neometal, which is slightly cheaper. Might be back for more on my next Hawaii trip!

"I'm wearing short sleeves, I don't want to expose my tattoos."…read more-Jerry Seinfeld Well now I DO wanna wear short sleeves to let my new honu peek out a bit! Been wanting to get a honu ink'd to remind me of where I came from... where home really is. Everytime I go back, I run out of time or just didn't want to give up the beach day. This time the whole fam was IN... when I explained my design concept, both my wife and daughter wanted their own version, still honu themed. da Scene: Determined to get this done done during the 16 day visit back home on Oahu, I did my research early and narrowed it down to 3 spots initially. After some dm's, email exchanges and finally some voice calls, it was Lai @ Tattoo Hawaii who I connected with most, so we scheduled an in-person consult and then our sessions, with 2 days left on our trip - only lost 1 beach day (it was a perfect one too). da Service: Every contact before our session was courteous and replied to promptly. I did have to be insistent on Lai doing our work, even if it meant spanning multiple days. His work on social media and Yelp! most connected with me. At our consult he explained how he would approach my design concept and adapt it to my wife and daughter. Lai was confident he could get us all done in one afternoon/evening session. The shop is tucked away on the 2nd floor of a little building on the corner of Kapiolani and Piikoi... parking is a challenge, so arrive early to wait out a spot. The shop is comfortable and can accommodate 3-4 artists working, with friends looking on in support. da Work: Kai was up 1st as hers would be the least complicated. She went with 3 petroglyph style honu, each about 3.5" diameter, ink'd fairly heavy - vertically on her upper arm, pretty classic design. She has several tattoos already and was surprised that Lai didn't work with a stencil... he simply free-handed the design with several pens, directly on your body. He's a very cool, confident cat, laid back and within minutes has you chatting it up like you went to high school together. I went next as my wife wanted to see how mine's worked out to help solidify her concept. Lai drew a honu/dragon/shark tooth design on my upper arm and I said "go for it". 2.5 hours later I was stunned at the fine details he added to the shark's teeth encircling the honu shell, as well as tribal accents in the honu, while incorporating the dragon profile. It really was satisfying to see my concept executed closely, while adding style and depth, bringing it to life. Carla was last up and really wanted to stick close to what I had done... just smaller and wanted the dragon to "pop" more. As you can see, Lai nailed it... however subtle, the dragon does appear more prominent on her piece. da Wrap: Really happy all-around, already thinking about how to add to it, maybe add color, grow it further down my arm, how to add to the story. It's a very personal thing and I really suggest you take your time to research and find the right artist. I'm confident that you'll find the right one at Tattoo Hawaii. We were there most of the day and saw several folks and artists' work, there was actually one guy there the whole time getting a large whole body piece worked on with a manual tattoo tool, that's an investment! HUGE shout out to Lai for making our sessions so enjoyable and comfortable... When he found out it was my and my wife's 1st work, he said he was honored to be 1st... such a humble guy, great disposition. We'll see you soon brother!

Many things have changed since my 2018 visit so the information in this review can stay relevant…read more I visited last week for a fairly large piece and Lai took care of it like he did with my two other ones. When you arrive remember to fill out the paperwork provided. This could probably be streamlined if it were made available online. Regardless, you can reach out to the shop via social media or even the shop's webpage too. We took multiple breaks on my last visit. What started out as a request for a pueo turned into a session to catch up since pre-pandemic and get back in the chair. Lai free handed the entire piece. I wanted a poly style piece with Lai's style and that's what I got. Very much appreciated for attention to detail. Reach out to the shop via social media and if you want specifics like cost and time, you better be specific about your request too. (i.e. size, color, design, etc). There are so many shops on Oahu and Tattoo Hawaii was the only one that gave me an accurate cost and time frame, not to mention some awesome conversation. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed!

It was half-closed in less than twelve hours! I had originally wanted to stop off at another spot but their piercer wasn't in. What? So I opened Yelp and found this place a short distance away. I came here and saw Krista and it was amazing. She got me cleaned and my piercing placed back in fast for the low price of $10 (plus tax). She's amazing. Mad love for this cool tattoo and piercing salon in Waikiki. Service is insanely friendly, place is clean, and the vibes are vibing. Five stars!

My daughter and I discovered Skin Deep Tattoo the very first time she came with me to Hawaii, and…read morethat experience was hands-down 5 stars. We decided to return for another tattoo this trip. My daughter got a beautiful red flower (we knew red ink tends to fade faster), and I got a beach scene with palm trees. Both tattoos came out lovely, truly 5-star-worthy work. The reason for my 3-star review isn't about the artwork but the experience afterward. While my daughter was in the lobby, the staff were admiring her tattoo, which was nice to hear, but then the conversation turned to comments about how the red ink wouldn't last and other remarks that weren't so positive. We completely understand the nature of red ink and appreciate honesty, but it's not great to overhear that kind of discussion right after getting a tattoo. For many people, including us, tattoos often hold sentimental meaning, they represent moments, memories, and people close to our hearts, even if we don't always share that story out loud. So, a little extra sensitivity goes a long way. Overall, the artistry and quality of the work are top-notch, but I'd just recommend being mindful of conversations when clients are still around to hear them.

Saw their booth at the Hawaii Tattoo Expo and they had great prices for what I wanted to get so I…read moredecided to get my third lobes and mid helix done. First off, EXTREMELY unorganized. All of their jewelry was stored in plastic containers where the employees were just digging through, without gloves (SO unsanitary), to find the jewelry that the customers wanted. I wanted titanium flat backs because I'm allergic to sterling silver and I don't heal well if it is pierced with steel. The girl who pierced me looked through all the containers before finding 3 gold colored titanium flat backs with silver colored titanium ball toppers. The piercing process started out okay, she cleaned off the area, although not very thoroughly, and marked where she was going to pierce and let me see before she started the process. I don't think they sterilized the jewelry before they pierced me either, even though different, ungloved, employees were digging around in the jewelry boxes just before. She opened a new needle and started on my lobes, these were pretty smooth. The biggest issue came when she started on my mid helix. Told me take a deep breath and she pushed the needle through, then went to guide the jewelry in, but could only get it HALFWAY. I heard her whisper "oh shoot" under her breath before proceeding to try multiple times to push the jewelry all the way through. She asked the other guy, Jay, for help and they both stood there pushing my ear around for a solid 3 minutes before the jewelry was fully through. It was a while before the piercing was done, I could feel the blood on my ear slipping around while he essentially tried to repierce it with the jewelry. Neither of them used a clamp, or even a tube to catch the needle as it went through to the other side, just used their hands which I could feel were slipping off my ear. To top it all off, my mom told me after that they used the same needle for all three of my piercings, super unsanitary! I've gotten thick cartilage piercings done before this (rook, nostril, helix) and I have NEVER had an experience like this. I will not be coming back here, not even for my jewelry changes. The only good thing I would say about this experience was that the lady at the front was polite and friendly, and the girl who pierced me was also nice, I just wish the process of the actual piercing was a bit cleaner and smoother. I hope nobody else has an experience like this, and I hope my piercings don't get infected.
