We ordered two sandwiches - jambon et beurre with cornichons and a chicken parm. We were blown away by both. Flavorful, high quality ingredients on the perfect baguette. We each chose a sandwich from the counter. My smoked salmon on focaccia was a delight. The bread, airy and light, beautifully happy yeast just bounding with lift, defying the constraints of olive oil which left my fingers gloriously glistening. I haven't had a focaccia as happy as that in a minute. Super thin radish, bright pickled shallot and fresh watercress all gave a nice vibrant touch. Ben's cream cheese couldn't possibly be creamier. And the delicate, silky, fresh, luxurious salmon... What a dream. So balanced. I filled my arms with goods- iberico salami, Aleppo chili oil, Blackstrap coffee beans, local chocolates, and an adorable Talbott & Arding puzzle. I'm sure I could have easily convinced myself to buy just about everything I laid my eyes upon. The cheese counter was an absolute work of art. It's clear that Talbott & Arding is a willing servant to the gifts of the surrounding earth and people. The homage it pays is palpable. Our stop at Talbott & Arding set the tone for an intentional, peaceful, vibrant, cozy, delicious, connected trip. I'll be back immediately.

With that and the prepared food case, it's so convenient and delicious to pick up a few items to complete a nutritious home meal. This time around I ordered the salami and blue cheese and the roast beef special. The cheese and bread are all super fresh, but that didn't stop the roast beef sandwich from being a bit bland. The salami and blue cheese sandwich is a favorite of mine, and again was super fresh, but the sandwich was small and doesn't come with any veggies. I think the reason I am giving this two stars, and not three of four, is because of the ambiance and service. This time we waited around 20 minutes just to order our sandwiches, as there was only one person in the front, and they spent 15 minutes letting some people ahead of us sample cheese. The shop was packed, but the line was barely moving. We also saw the employees stick his nose in some mortadella and sniff it... not sure if that was a quality check but it was a bit of a turn-off. The shop itself is cute, but it has no bathroom or indoor seating, which is a must after a long car ride or hike (the area is famous for hiking). There are two outdoor tables, but they are extremely cramped. We sat down with our baby and there just wasn't enough room for us and the three ladies next to us, so my husband ate standing up. The cheese itself is quite nice and the staff is quite knowledgeable about what they products they offer. However, I like to stop here for lunch, and the lunch menu is limited to sandwiches. There are only a few sandwiches offered (maybe 5 and two specials) and they don't rotate through menu items very often, so I feel like I've tried each sandwich they offer multiple times over at this point. The sandwiches are usually quite bare and don't come with many veggies or variety. So that being said, I've been returning less because I'm a bit bored by the offerings.

I was able to make some decisions about which four cheeses to have included on my medium platter for the tasting. They include Comté, (cow hard) Ossau Iraty (sheep semi soft), Munster (cow semi soft) and perhaps a goat cheese that they may get in during the next few days. The shop has many specialty foods to select from. I enjoyed browsing before buying a couple of cheeses to take home for later.
