Went to this little place for a quick bite to eat and was terribly disappointed. Neither quick nor a tasty bite. Better described as cold and tasteless coupled with over 45 minute wait time left little to be desired. We ordered the crap dip appetizer which tasted like a pool of mayonnaise and old bay. No crab to be found anywhere. For entrees, nothing was hotter than lukewarm. We were treated with bland fish tacos, soggy French fries, tasteless and chunky Mac and cheese. The saving grace? Probably the pretzel bread, which did not come cheap. Overall, poor wait time coupled with cold and bland food equals a wasted experienced. I am sorry to say I will not be returning here. read more

Very cute and low-key. LOVE the outdoor patio which is perfect for those who like myself are not ready to dine indoors. The patio is covered and very comfy and tables are spaced appropriately. My 3 teens and I were seated immediately upon arrival for Sunday brunch. Note, we made a reservation. Josh was extremely attentive. The mimosas are delish! What's brunch without a mimosa? The cake and eggs was delish, a crab cake with aioli with a side of sunny side up eggs and home fries. I also added the peach bourbon glazed waffle and vegan sausage. Yes I was hungry. My teens all had chicken and waffles and we all shared the same sentiment, food + service was well worth the trip and an overall great and yummy dining experience. And our timing couldn't have been perfect, the day started off rainy but by brunch time the sun had come out so although a tad chilly we were perfectly comfy outdoors. If Yelp did 1/2's, this would be 3 1/2 stars. The setting is nice, cozy inside with a porch out front and a full service bar (which is a plus). This review covers two visits (so far). Both times the staff was pleasant, attentive, and all out excellent. The full service bar as a nice selection of wine, and the Moscow Mule is a winner. The cream of crab soup. Nicely done. Good lumps of crab and just the right spice note. Salads have been good, but WAY over dressed. Steak with mac & cheese. The steak was spot on, but the mac & cheese was a bit on the "gloppy" side, like it had been sitting and started to tighten up. The shrimp and grits, this is a tough one...a lot of shrimp and andouille sausage, and the sauce had a nice spice to it. The down side was way to much sauce, and while the grits had a nice course texture they overall suffered the same fate as the mac & cheese - "gloppy" from sitting. The "hook and vine burger" is probably my new favorite burger of all time, perfect in every way. Not to short sell this (as it were), but honestly, what else is there to say after "perfect"? Overall...will we be back, the answer is yes. Hook & Vine is a local business, and the few misses aside is more then worthy of local support. read more

We went there tonight (Friday) and it was crowded. It was soooo loud in there we couldn't hear the waitress or ourselves talk. Very stressful. The food was mediocre. At the end of the meal the waitress brought our check and had to wait as we paid electronically at the table. It was awkward for her and us as we had to choose our tip while she stood there. Horrible service. We had a 7pm reservation we were told it would be a little wait. Then a 730 reservation came right on in and sat down. We asked why we were not seated they said that was a party of 4 you are a party of 2?!?!!?! Absolutely horrible service, we ended up leaving very upset. read more

Me and my wife have been here many times, about 6-7 to be exact. Every time the food is fantastic and the environment is great. Great drinks as well. Today the waitress mentioned other guests complaining about them running out of specific foods (jambalaya for example) which I wanted as well, but understand I rather you run out of good fresh food than have frozen bs. This experience at Hook &. Vine was beyond disappointing. We have eaten here many times but this past event has taken this spot off our list for good. We were the table in the restaurant at 11:45 and finally served the wrong food at 1:15 pm. Each time we inquired why our food hadn't arrived, a different person replied they would check on it and never came back. We literally ordered crab soup and appetizers and waited that long. When we asked the manager for assistance he basically brought the food, with no explanation and just said he was sorry. We were comped for the meal, with an attitude that WE were the problem. The only great thing about Hook & Vine is Damian. He was so helpful and efficient, Kudos for the restaurant for hiring him. Our food was cold, had to send back some of it. I've been here a few times with family and friends. They food is always very good. The drinks are hit or miss. Staff is always friendly. Ambience is often a tad noisy - I can see they've tried to help with ceiling sound absorbing material - but not sure how much it is helping. Definitely a decent place in North Beach, though...I'd probably prefer going there for early afternoon or late morning meals. read more

This is my new favorite place in North Beach. Other reviews complaining about length of time have to understand that restaurants are trying to adapt to all the Covid changes. Be patient and be kind. I live in No Va and this is the 2nd time I ate here and this time it was for brunch. Would love to see the staple brunch item on the menu sometime - Good ol fashioned eggs benedict. The outside porch was really nice and the food was yum (I really liked the pork belly BLT). The jambalaya could use a bit more seasoning and/or slow cooking but the rest of the food was delicious. Highly recommend the shrimp tempura and barbecue wings for appetizer round. They were really busy which I was happy to see and the owner (I assume) was pitching in to make sure things were running smoothly. A sign of a great restaurant when the owner is walking around helping out vs. in the back dictating. I was even asked if I preferred regular or plasticware so they are def following Covid guidelines in case anyone is worried. We were looking for a spot to eat in Chesapeake Beach area. This was definitely the best choice. Wait staff was great. Had Mojito(wonderful!) blackened chicken Caesar salad(good size portions). The Brussel sprouts side was amazing. Chicken Marsala was also filling and had yummy taste! read more

Such a cute place and atmosphere! We typically go to North Beach on Friday nights and ran into this place. They had a wait but that's because of the space. It's not very big. They have stands outside where you can hang out and have a drink and chat while you wait for a table. The food was good and fresh. A friend of mine had the shrimp and grits and he liked it a lot. I had the Mac n cheese because I wasn't too hungry. My other friend had a jambalaya and he said that was pretty good too. We had deviled eggs as an appetizer and those were great too. The drinks were original and tasty. My only complaint being that my drink had a tad too much ice. We went here for dinner on Mother's Day and it was great! We understood it was a brand new spot and expected to have some kinks, but let me tell you... the staff is so helpful and truly cares about your experience. Our server was still a little new but that didn't stop her from providing top service. Everything came out on time and DELICIOUS. Was not expecting the food to be so good within 9 days of the restaurant opening. We made a dinner reservation earlier in the week, and recommend you do the same. That place is pretty small, so it fills up quick. We got a few appetizers for the table - Crab Brushetta, Mussles, and the BLT Deviled Eggs -- all so good! Their Cream of Crab soup was probably one of the best I've tasted. The portion of the mussles was impressive as well. As far as entrees, the there were 8 of us, so we had a variety - scallops, mahi mahi, cajun pasta... we all tried each others and it was all seriously delicious. The fish and chips portion was huge and perfectly cooked, the breading was light and crispy but nice and moist inside. The hostess recommended the pork chop with the house made peach glaze and I think that was the overall winner. My father ordered it (and he is hard to please) and he finished the entire plate. As long as you are willing to give them a little wiggle room with being a new restaurant, you will be very happy. You can't expect everything to be perfect being so new, but we were all pleasantly surprised and we will be making this a regular spot! read more

A new restaurant in Calvert County, which is worthy of the five stars, not an easy task. We visit our daughter and son in law, who live in the area, and always look forward to trying any new dining establishments. This one is a definite delight. The wine list has some unique and best choices I have seen in any of the local dining places. Protium Cava Brut, Zoe Albariño, Tempranillo's at a Calvert restaurant...not the usual! The half price bottles are also a great buy if you just want to stay with one choice. The food is cooked to perfection. We had the crab bruschetta and the lobster bites for appetizers. Both we delectable, but the lobster bites with the fried veggies was awesome. The blackened Mahi mahi, blackened salmon, lobster ravioli and the scallops were enjoyed and shared by all to create a wonderful dining experience. The service was excellent and the water glasses never got more than half empty. Go forth and enjoy this new great addition to North Beach. Went there for our anniversary. It was the first time going to a sit down restaurant since Covid. The cocktail list is extensive and full of great offerings. I had a blackened fish dish, my wife had shrimp and grits, son had chicken tenders (nothing out of a box on the kid's menu, it's real food). Everything was delicious! My fish was cooked and seasoned perfectly! The shrimp and grits, fantastic! Our son was stuffed and couldn't stop eating. Finally he pushed his plate and said, "please, put this in a box.
