This place could really be a great place to dine at if they would clean it up and serve consistent food. Haven't been here in a while so we decided to give it a try and see how it goes, we both had tea for our drink. Wife ordered the full rack of ribs and I had the pork bbq sandwich with fries and coleslaw, we were disappointed when the food came out the ribs were very small for a full rack. It looked like they weee purchased from Giant last week when they were on sale, the rack was very small and there wasn't a lot of meat on them. Ya The coleslaw tasted totally different from what they used to make the fries were nothing to write about the bbq sauce is nothing fancy just Open Pit brand they get in a 5 gallon bucket the bourbon bbq sauce wa little bit better than the other sauce. Over the last 30 years I have dined at this restaurant scores of times. However about 10 years ago the quality of the food started to decline and the restaurant itself was fairly shabby and not very clean. Today some friends wanted to meet there for dinner and even though the Yelp reviews lately have not been great I decided to give it a try. Glad that I did, because it was much improved. I think they have installed new floors and the bathroom was also brand new and clean for a change. It's still a rib joint, and the ribs are superb as is the barbecue chicken. The side dishes were much improved over what I remember so perhaps they have a new provider? Of note, the name may have changed but the sign still says "Adam's Ribs." Service was great and our server certainly knew what she was doing and was very friendly and attentive. Prices were fairly reasonable. I will definitely be back. read more

I had higher hopes for the ribs at a place called "Adam's - the Place for Ribs." My full rack certainly looked excellent as it arrived but the ribs were only okay. They were plenty moist but there wasn't too much meat and it wasn't the usual "fall off the bone" that I've come to expect living in Charlotte. The sauce on the ribs (same as on the table) was a bit bland as well. I went with fries and cole slaw (there's an upcharge if you substitute anything else). The fries were a bit soft but the cole slaw was okay. Prince Frederick is perhaps a bit of a desert of restaurants, so considering the competition in the area this is very good. But for ribs overall, they were A-OK. read more

I sat at a table that had a view of the kitchen which should be harmless but proved a bit disturbing. While waiting for my food I looked through this window to see the server with her fingers in her mouth licking something off. Not once, but twice. I haven't been there in years, thought i would check it out. Food was delicious years ago. Well, all the food was nasty this time. the steak was med rare,, but had no flavor. The baby back ribs were mediocre at best. Brussel sprouts were burnt and rock hard. Baked potatoes were only half baked, and hard in side. The skewer of barbeque shrimp was very chewy and small, like popcorn shrimp on a skewer. Cole slaw was good. Must have been store bought. I drive by Adams all the time and love seeing the specials posted out on the sign. I decided to stop in one night for dinner and as luck would have it, I wasn't that interested in the special. We started off with a half loaf of the onion rings and I believe we ended up getting a whole loaf - it was massive and really good. I chose the one pound Spiced Steamed Shrimp appetizer for my meal along with a baked potato. The shrimp were big but super tough and with no spice or flavor what-so-ever. I think they boiled them in water and then just dusted them with the spice once they were on the plate. The baked potato was good. My partner got the ribs and they were decent. They weren't super hot and the sauce was tangier than we expected but the meat was tender and juicy even though the full rack seemed quite small (more like a half rack). The service was really great. The waitress knew I was freezing. She sat us near the fireplace and offered to make a special hot beverage for me. It was delicious. My husband and I ordered potato skins for the appetizer. The skins were cooked perfectly and the actual skin was soft but crispy. He ate the ham and Swiss sandwich with fries and coleslaw. He loved it. I ate the rack of ribs, fries, and Brussels sprouts. So good! I tried this place a long time ago and it had a weird smell...my husband has begged me to give it another chance. This restaurant was top notch. When we arrived they were at capacity due to COVID restrictions. They were very upfront about the wait. We witnessed several patrons being rude and unreasonable and Adam's staff kept their professionalism and seated everyone as fast as the could. Hmmmm... let me first off start out saying our waitress was very nice.. but... I have never in my life spent $8.00 on one can of Guinness... the only reason why we stopped was because the website states they have a wide range of beers. I dont understand how coors and miller light are a wide range of beers, plus what was listed on the website was NOT available. Our waitress literally looked at us when we asked like we were from outer space when we asked. I now see why we were the only ones in the resturant/bar. We've always been fans of Adam's, eaten there maybe 10 times over the last 5 years and it's usually ok to good. We wish them well but every time I drive by and see 4 cars in the lot I wonder: are they going to be in business later? Decided to do takeout at Adam's last night and it was far from great. I'll start by saying the Ribs ONLY Full Rack was acceptable... a little small for a full Rack though. So, I'll give kudos to the ribs. My wife ordered pulled pork sandwich and it was awful. Just awful...How can you mess up pulled pork so badly? Bland and mushy are two good adjectives. The fries that came with it were marginal, limp, and mushy. She was soooo disappointed. And the final cherry on top: they forgot my green beans, to go with the rack of ribs... you know: meat and veggies as a combo??? If it weren't for the ribs, it would have been one star. I stopped in around 6:30 and one would think in the middle of the dinner hour there would be a lot of patrons...not. Maybe 4 tables are occupied. I really feel bad for this business....and hope they can hang in there as Calvert is desperate restaurant poor. With inflation rampaging in the restruant business, it's deflating to pat $35 for take-out (plus a $4 tip), get it home and have it so demoralizing. Should have been waaaaaay better. read more

This place gets five stars from me and I don't usually place reviews unless it's really bad or really good. When I arrived to dine alone (traveling for work)it was pretty empty however it was past 7pm. I was seated by a very polite hostess and was greeted by my waitress promptly. I ordered a half rack of ribs, chicken and French fries but first started with a bowl of French onion soup. Was not a long wait for the food. Everything I had was absolutely delicious down to the sweet tea they kept bring out. The waitress even gave me a sweet tea to go ! Awesome ! My husband and I went here for lunch because a friend of ours suggested it. He had the Wings. He didn't think they tasted right when he was eating the wings but he thought it was the homemade hot sauce that just had a barbecue taste to it and wasn't very spicy. It's now a few hours later and my husband is VERY ill with food poisoning. I am angry and disgusted. I called to complain and of course they said the wings were fresh. He had to go to the emergency room and get two bags of fluids. We will not be back there EVER again. Sorry that we went the one time that we did. read more

Been here a couple of times...not quite a 3, but more then a 2.5...let's call it 2.8, not quite out of the "meh" zone but better then "meh". It is a nice setting in the front rooms....with the tables, fireplace, log cabin feel. Near the fire place on a chilly evening is the place you want to be. The very back room, you tend to feel like you have been exiled. Friendly staff, good service, good menu. I think why it still is in the "meh" zone is consistency and execution. We ordered the onion stack, really great side sauce but the "onion stack" itself was meh at best. A blob of onion rings not properly drained, greasy and dying for salt. Main courses are again still in the "meh" zone from consistency and execution. I ordered the full rack of ribs, which were clearly 2 half's. The one half, very nice being tender, juicy, fall off the bone and plenty of caramelized spots. The other half were obviously rushed, seemed dry, not tender and overall lacking in that lip smacking goodness that are the caramelized spots. I have driven by this place hundreds of times over the past few years. I usually stick to the seafood joints as I vacation here in Prince Frederick MD during the offseason. So I was all seafood-ed out and said what the heck (oh, I don't care for ribs so I didn't order them). Every night they have a special posted on the sign, tonight was Country Fried Steak night (not exactly New Jersey Guy fare). The place is a really old log cabin much in the tradition of the area I lodge in while here (not a gimmick either, this is the real deal hand built place). So with that said the layout is really strange, it is like someone took one of those lame/standard steak house places (outblech etc) and made a maze of it. I like to sit at the bar because being a single guy sitting at a table is depressing and has no TVs (or Kino... betting at dinner? yes, apparently). Given the horrendous weather the place still was half full (mostly large party type tables and families with kids). I ponied up to the bar (maybe can seat 10 and set up to order). I started with the Cream of crab (just a cup), may seem expensive but it was worth it, Typical (but good) cream soup with lump crab piled on top with some old bay sprinkled on. After I ordered it one of the other patrons ordered one to take home because she remembered how good it was, Just thinking about it now makes me drool, good stuff. For my main I ordered the "Mixed Grill" which is an assortment of various proteins which could really illustrate how good (or bad) their cooks are. The mix: 1 strip steak (about 1/2 a normal one) 1 chicken breast 4 "garlic" shrimp baked tate, veggie (zuch) The strip was cooked perfectly to order (rare) and had perfect grill marks, it was ok seasoned but the meat was good so that was not that big a deal. The chicken was great, perfectly grilled. The shrimp were competent, not much "garlic" flavor imo but good grilled shrimp. The tater was the size of a scary tumor in too small a bowl to maneuver well. The Veg (zucchini) was nice and crunchy (thank god for no sog). Only 3 stars ? Yes, This is very standard (but good and competent) fare. I would go here if I was local instead of some chain but nothing blew me away except the soup. read more

The best ribs anywhere. I've been going here for years and now live in California. Whenever I step off the plane coming home I make a mad dash for Adams. The ribs are amazing as is the onion loaf. On the most recent trip I discovered the great pulled pork and the amazing North Carolina BBQ sauce. I'm a sauce guy and I love Adam's original sauce and the new NC BBQ sauce so much I went through the hassle of jarring and packing 3/4 of a gallon of it in my luggage on this last trip. We had a party of 5 Wednesday night and the only thing good there was the service. We had ribs that were over cooked. Chicken that was hard. Onion loaf and cheese sticks that had NO taste at all and then they wanted to charge for rolls. This was our LAST TIME there. read more

Not happy at all with this place. Food made me sick for three days. Don't recommend. If you do go here, stick with the smoked type food. That is what they are good at. Do not get the chicken wings. Went here for Mother's Day, we ordered the "famous" onion stack appetizer which was a tasteless greasy blob of onion straws. Ordered ribs, which were tough and drowned in bbq sauce. Also had a steak ordered med that was over cooked and tasteless. Too pricey for mediocre food. We won't be back. read more
