Flourless chocolate cake for Grandma's "21st" bday
    Christie S.

We felt like locals as soon as we walked into this charming beach cottage restaurant a block from the Bay. Our server Lucy couldn't have been more sweet and fun, even laughing at my dumb joke about celebrating Grandma's 21st bday. We ordered: Crab cake sandwich with zucchini and squash Single crab cake with roasted Brussels, maple, bacon Steak fajita bowl Mojitos Non-alcoholic cocktails (blueberry lemon and raspberry lavender) Flourless chocolate cake Peanut butter pie Loved the crabcakes - all big meat, no filler. Son reports the steak bowl was 7/10, delicious but could have used sauce for more flavor. ADORED the drinks, the mocktails were muddled with fresh fruit. Deserts were very very high quality. Can't wait to come back.

Made a reservation and was 5 minutes late, they called to make sure we were coming and reconfirmed. We got seated upon arrival. Kailey (sorry if i spelled your name wrong) was amazing. She had firecracker energy with amazing customer service...Great recommendations and everything you want for service. They had a great beer selection and the menu was full of options for the entire group. We asked questions and Kailey had all the answers. They let me sub out rice for angel hair on the etoufee, which was great and showed its not just pre planned. The room was moderate in noise and felt very comfortable. We also had the fried pickles, deviled eggs and hushpuppies for apps and all were really good. Honestly the service was the best part of our dinner, but the food was right behind it

Quaint coastal dining. Love the ambience. It's a cute cozy place to grab a bite to eat and drink, all less than a 5 minute walk from the beach/boardwalk. I ordered the Captain Hook chicken sandwich. The Captain Hook sauce....chef's kiss. They also have a variety of seafood dishes, cocktails, and desserts. One of my favorite spots to eat at in the summer/early fall. The porch seating is some of the best seating in the house!

Lovely, charming and cozy. I love that is so close the beach and boardwalk. There's nothing better than a waterfront stroll after brunch. The peach Bellini was refreshing and vibing as was the mango cider I was nice and lubricated. The shrimp and grits is savory with a lovely kick of spice. The hush puppies accompanied by cinnamon butter is a decadently dangerous confection. I will most assured return.

02.03.24 Stopped in for lunch wife had the chicken sandwich with fries and I had the hook n vine burger with fries, they gave us a lot less fries than what they usually do. At least they were cooked nice and crispy, the chicken sandwich was very good the burger was good just wish it was cooked to the proper temperature. They do have a very nice drink menu, I wish they would get large ice cubes for the bourbon drinks. If I'm going to pay top dollar for top shelf bourbon I surely don't want a cup full of ice cubes.

TLDR; our food took a lil longer than expected. But we didn't even notice because of the service and the flavor Visited Hook & Vine for the first time with my wife. The atmosphere is busy and the restaurant is surprisingly spacious which you wouldn't believe by just looking at the outside. What we had : Fried Pickles - Hands down the best I have ever had. Thinly sliced and crunchy batter paired well with the house made spicy ranch. Hushpuppies- These were good; the honey butter (house made) made them insanely good! Hook Fried Chicken Sandwich- hefty portion of fried chicken breast on a delicious brioche bun. The chicken is tossed lightly in another house made sauce "hook sauce" which played games with my mind. No too spicy , not too smoky, not too sweet, just a perfect blend of all 3. Buffalo Chicken Tacos- unique twist on the taco made with fresh and flavorful ingredients. Another generous portion . All in all. Hook & Vine offered me and my wife a 1st time experience of an explosion of flavor and unique delicious dishes. I'm upset it took us this long to give it a try, I doubt that will be the case moving forward. Can't wait to come back and cannot recommend this place any more!

Ask the Community - Hook & Vine - Kitchen and Bar

Is it kid friendly for lunch?

Hook and Vine is kid friendly for brunch, lunch and dinner. They have a good selection and size portion for kids.…

    Are dogs allowed outside?

Yes, but we are waiting on approval from the health department. This year they have changed the rules for allowing dogs at restaurants, even in outdoor settings. We are in a waiting stage at the moment.

I did the smothered porkchops - WOW, best that I have had - really enjoyed the main entrée and my sides (greens, black-eye peas). Both meals came with cornbread (another option was a biscuit). I have to say the food, the Staff and the establishment has been my best taste of southern cooking in the DMV area. I ordered chicken wings (6) to go for wife & I to enjoy later. Definitely worth a visit, we will be back - The smothered chops are calling me already. Lunch for two with a take home order of wings & 2 deserts plus tip was around $100.

The fish (catfish and croaker) always tastes like it's been fried in grease that needs changing. There's no flavor profile in the food which is weird for a soul-food restaurant. The mixed veggies were absolutely disgusting-- gave them back. I paid $65 for fried catfish with two sides, fried croaker with two sides, a cookie and two drinks---and sadly, the only thing that was sort of worth it was the cornbread, but it tastes like it has coconut in it. I hate coconut. The item that was the most flavorful for me was the black eyed peas/hoppin John (minus the big pieces of fatty meat in them).

We arrived around 6:30 PM and were surprised to see the parking lot pretty empty. We sat at the bar and were greeted quickly by the bartender, who took our drink order. Both of us ordered the Mrs. Maryland Club, which is made with shrimp salad, a crab cake, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich arrived fairly quickly and looked good, but right away we noticed something seemed different from our last visit. The biggest disappointment was the size of the crab cake and amount of shrimp salad. The last time we were here, the crab cake covered the entire sandwich and shrimp salad was falling off the sandwich. It was one of the reasons we remembered it so fondly. This time, the crab cake was noticeably smaller just a little bigger than a golf ball the shrimp salad was just 7 baby shrimp and the chips I got maybe 12-15 chips and half of them were rubbery, overall the sandwich just didn't seem as substantial as we remembered. The little shrimp salad had good flavor, the bacon was cooked nicely, and everything tasted fresh. It just didn't live up to the memory of our previous visit, not worth $21 for sure. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. The atmosphere was relaxed, and as always, the waterfront location is a nice place to enjoy a meal. Overall, the Mrs. Maryland Club is still a good sandwich, but based on our experience, the portions seem to have gotten a lot smaller. We'll likely return again, but we hope to see the sandwich brought back to the size and quality that made it so memorable the first time.

Everything was so delicious! I had the green beans , mashed potato, candied yams, and jerk lamb meatloaf. So you're aware, the food is made to order so it's perfect when you're planning ahead for lunch or dinner. They also deliver! (Ask for details dep. on your area). The chef was so, so nice! It's an honor to support her business! All of the vegetables tasted like they were farm-fresh--nothing was frozen! The green beans were expertly cooked with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, and onions. The best green beans ever! I would love to get these again! The mashed potatoes were so creamy and the yams were nice and sweet, but not too, too sweet. They were perfectly balanced and had the best texture! The meatloaf was made with all of the love in the world! Now, since it has lamb, the flavor is very, very prominent. I'm not really a big meat person but this was a cool touch, and I'll try anything once! If you're a huge fan of lamb, I recommend it. I loved how there was gravy at the bottom and the traditional tomato based topping on top! I shared with my brother when he came to visit, he tore it all up! Lol.
