Crab pretzels and what's left of my deeeeelicious martini
    Elisa P.

Need to weather the cold? Perhaps in need of a good martini? Look no further! We've been common here for a while and the local charm of this restaurant hasn't faded. The weekly specials, the MD soup, and the occasional sugar cookie martini treat are part of our winter monotony survival in SoCo. Service can be a little slower on busy nights but the staff is nice and attentive--cut them some slack if you go at the height of service. The food has been consistently good. They have all of your typical bar offerings and some fancier fish options that are on point.

Haven't been here in many years, returned tonight to find a new owner and a great menu. Had crab stuffed mushroom, broiled scallops w/ green beans. My daughter had the (2) 3oz fillets, sweat potato and green beans. All were fresh hot and flavorful. Highly recommend this little hidden gem. I will be back.

Another really good meal! They had a generous 8 ounce steak and chips smothered w a rich mushroom gravy and it was really good! Collard greens on the side were on point. I don't think it is on the regular menu but if you see it on the specials board give it a try!

Had such high hopes. Beautiful location, and little wait for our party of 7 on a Sunday afternoon…read more Server was initially very attentive, but then stopped coming by. Crab dip was good, but the ahi devlied eggs had tiny pieces of tuna, and were disappointing for the price. Loaded Bloody Mary took a while for the "bacon and shrimp" garnishes, then came out with no shrimp (which had to be asked for and was brought out later). Food came out at different times, and 4 of us were almost finished by the time the other 3 entrees came out. Soft shells of the sandwich special had funnel-cake sweet batter and 2 of the 3 we ordered seemed like the crabs were past the prime of soft and were hard and chewy. Skate special had a "unique" flavor and texture, but was tolerable. Saved room to try dessert and got both the carrot cake (more like layers of blondie separated by regular cream cheese) and the blueberry creme brulee, which tasted good but did not have a smooth texture. Bussers were great at clearing the table, and brought boxes since we hadn't seen the server. When check came, we decided to pay with cash to avoid the 3% fee. When reviewing it, we found we had been charged for 2 beers that had not been ordered (which we may not have noticed if we had paid by card). The manager was responsive after we were able to get her attention and quickly corrected the check and took the payment because our server did not return. Highlights were the sides of stewed tomatoes and mac and cheese- oh, and the water was good when we were able to get refills.

Great food, attentive service, and a beautiful waterfront view. Great place to stop for dinner.read more

We're stuck in this hospital...when we should be following that…read moremonster's trail," Roberto DaCosta (Sunspot) shook with anger as he expressed a desire to seek revenge against who or what attacked their teammate, Danielle Moonstar, leaving her on an operating table on the brink of death. "Waste o' time, Bobby, you won't find the critter there," Sam Guthrie (Cannonball), the oldest of the teenagers that make up the New Mutants, responded, "It'll be here." "What are you talking about, Sam? Explain yourself!" "Stands t' reason, ever since we've known her, Dani's had a special fear of a spirit bear she said murdered her parents. None of us really really gave the story much credit, after all who believes in magic?" Sam paused oh so slightly before continuing. " 'Cept Illyana's a real witch, an' we fought demons and sorceresses. Maybe Dani wasn't kidding." Sam shifted his tone to reveal his evidence. "Illyana tells me Dani spent the last week or so in the Danger Room fighting bears! T'night, she walked out into a [winter] storm, alone, armed with a bow an' arrows an' wearing war paint! And got mauled. We were wrong t' doubt her. We should'a listened, we should'a seen the signs." Whenever my wife and I visit a restaurant or bar for the first time, whether we are there by ourselves or--in this case--treated to a meal by our favorite neighbors--I can count on her to sort through, heed, and pick up on every nuance in every aspect of culinary service that is there to be sensed. In this case, at the Dockside Restaurant & Sports Bar at 421 Deale Road in Maryland, the food was mostly wonderful, and the prices were more than reasonable for this economy. What prevents Dockside from receiving at least four stars was primarily the service. Two orders of fries, one sweet potato and one regular, weren't hot; and although our waitress reluctantly brought one of the orders back to exchange it for a new batch, the fries didn't taste any warmer. Our other host ordered his crabcake lightly-fried, only for it to be brought out broiled. He still enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly what he wanted or ordered. By the end of the meal, it became obvious that, if we return, we need to ask for Sarah, who, although she was tending the bar and wasn't even our waitress, still brought one of our neighbors a fresh cup of Pepsi Zero that she could take on our return trip home. Sarah also exhibited a great sense of humor, an attentiveness and an attention to detail, and, most importantly, remembered with pleasure our hosts, who have dined there frequently. Apart from the pumpkin cheesecake, which was so infused with nutmeg and pumpkin spice that even Linus from Peanuts couldn't have tasted the pumpkin, and the lukewarm fries, our meals were terrific. I devoured the perfectly-seasoned shrimp from the fried shrimp platter; everyone loved their onion rings and their cream of crab and Maryland crab soups; and we all agreed that the crabcakes, boiled and fried, were scrumptious.

At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. The pizza was fine -- clearly sourced from the shop downstairs -- but it leaned oily and didn't really wow us. Service: 5/5 Pretty standard -- nothing over the top, but not neglectful either. Drinks came out reasonably fast, food followed, and we were checked on enough without it feeling pushy. Vibes: 4/5 The speakeasy itself is definitely the selling point. Dark, intimate, and stylish -- you feel like you've found a little hidden spot. All in all, the cocktails are the reason to come, especially if you're into whiskey. The food was forgettable, but it's convenient that you can order pizza upstairs. We spent about $30-40 for drinks and snacks, which isn't shocking for Old Town. Would I go back? Maybe if I was already in the area, but for a dedicated whiskey night, I'd probably head somewhere else.

It is not particularly fancy but - really - when you are sitting at the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay, do you need white tablecloth fancy??? I sure don't. I just want great food and that is what I got at Skippers Pier. We both started with crab soup. My spouse had the cream of crab and I had the dynamic duo (half cream of crab and half Maryland crab soup). Delicious! Maybe a little salty but awfully good! My main course was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! A very large piece of pure solid rockfish covered in a beurre blanc (lemon) sauce and so much crab meat that I could have made an entire crab cake out of it. And all of this was sitting on top of 2 fried green tomatoes that served as the perfect foil to the luxurious seafood. Crispy and a bit tart. Beautifully balanced on my tongue! A real home run. My spouse had the crab cake dinner and it was huge. All backfin lump crab meat and perfectly seasoned! His onion rings were among the best we have ever had. Crispy on the outside and plenty of soft onion inside, without too much grease. Another home run! The dining room is huge, maybe too big, and the noise level is rather high. But the view of the Chesapeake was gorgeous. Our server, Gabby, was fast, smart, easy to talk to and very hard working. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat!
