We popped into Hook'd while we were shopping at Pier Park. Yes, we knew it was a touristy trap, but a local had recommended the gator bites, so we ventured in. This "surfer bar" is decorated exactly as you are imagining, right on the beach beside the pier. So, this place does have something going for it. Our server, Anna, was delightful, pleasant, attentive, and helpful. Our food was a mixed review however. As suggested, the gator bites were very good. They were lightly fried and not at all chewy or rubbery as can sometimes be the case. The accompanying dipping sauce was a nice compliment. The Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing tasty. The blackened grouper on top was good, but a bit too salty. The grouper taco bowl was tasty as well. The saltiness of the grouper was masked by the other flavorings in the bowl. The grilled grouper sandwich however, left nowhere for the over salted fish to hide. It was barely edible, and in fact needed copious amounts of ketchup to consume, even then my "clean the plate" husband left some behind. Two highlights of the experience though were the beginning and the end. The De-Stresser cocktail did as the name described. And we finished the meal with one of the largest pineapple Dole whips I've ever seen. It was delicious. So, a pretty mixed review for is on this visit. This is a great location to eat and enjoy an unobstructed view of the beach. The service was good for as busy of a restaurant they are. We ordered the Pow Pow Shrimp and grouper tacos. The creamy sweet and spicy sauce and the size of the shrimp were on point. We ordered the grouper grilled and the tacos had plenty of grouper. My husband said the tacos tasted a little fishy but I did not taste that. To me, the grouper was salty and the taco itself could have used something else to add flavor. I think adding the sweet and spicy sauce from the shrimp would have made the tacos delicious. Overall, I would recommend stopping at Hook'D over the franchise restaurants in the area. read more

My wife and I were staying in Panama City Beach and we took the 15 minute walk down to Hook'd and we got a perfect place on the porch overlooking the calm Gulf of Mexico on a sunny day, before the clouds rolled in, we seriously hit the jackpot for timing! Our server was so awesome, super nice, brought the pitbull next to us a nice bowl of ice water. I ordered a double IPA. It was wonderful. They were out of Shock Top draft and only had Bud Light and some other crappy beer on tap, so I stuck with water. I ordered the blackened gator bites and a blackened grouper sandwich with a subbed side salad. The food came out pretty quick and they were hot, which is rare here in PCB for some reason. Especially the BBQ places. The blackened gator bites came out first and were frickin' fantastic! Full of flavor and a wonderful honey mustard aioli dipping sauce (I think that's what it was) Nice and chewy to perfection! The grouper was a perfect size hunk, overflowing from the bun and really tasty and the side salad was great with a kicked up blue cheese that was out of this world! You have to try this place out. Excellent choice for lunch. It was New Year Day and they were closing early so we were in and out. Quinton was our server and he was great. Nice, knowledgeable about the menu and quickly told us what was unavailable. Everything we ordered was hot, greasy and delicious. No complaints on the food and plenty on each plate. They have outdoor and indoor seating. Small indoor, but heard talk of them expanding to have more seating. So keep an eye out. This place sits in front of the pier and across from the shopping at Pier Park. If you are in PCB and want great seafood (really good chicken too) and a great drink you should stop by. After what was told to be a 45 minute wait to sit inside they sat us 3 minutes later of putting our name. Our waitress was awesome. Super sweet and attentive. My shrimp pasta was good, not the best I've had but definitely hit the itch I had for shrimp pasta. She explained that the sauce is made in house. Our friends got the blackened shrimp pasta and looked tasty with more flavors since it had spices. The breaded shrimp looked great and the jerk chicken nachos were good but the cheese was just a little too much of a sweet hint for me. Overall good experience. read more

There's nothing like having a meal with a view of the beach. Hook'd does that and more! Though their menu was on the smaller side for being on a touristy street, I actually quite appreciate it. You can tell that Hook'd has been here for a while, and then deciding on keeping their menu relatively small means that they care about the quality of their food. You can definitely taste it too! My partner and I had the catch of the day. I had mine fried, he had his blackened. You couldn't go wrong with either way, because both were delicious. Mine was perfectly fried, salted, and with the added lemon and tartar sauce, it was great. I could also taste how fresh it was as well! Their fries were good too. My favorite part about this place is that dogs are allowed, so long as they are leashed and behaved. We don't get to bring our boy with us to many places, but I'm glad we got to bring him here. Our waiter even got him his own bowl of water, and our boy was definitely thankful. Lastly, the service was wonderful. We had the kindest waiter who was super friendly, conversational, and informative. I feel bad because I forgot his name, but he was definitely one of the best waiters we've ever encountered. We enjoyed our meal at Hook'd! I would not say it was the best food I've had on the beach, but you get a great view, you're right by Pier Park, near beach access, and can get a nice hot meal. Surprisingly we were seated immediately at 5. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided good suggestions. The tortillas were dry and brittle which made eating near impossible, but that is my only real complaint. The food was very good! The jerk chicken tacos were delicious, the chicken was very well seasoned. Not as spicy as most jerk chicken that I've had so if you don't like the spiciness of jerk chicken you would be able to enjoy these nachos. I had the fried shrimp tacos with special sauce and mango salsa. VERY GOOD. A little basic on the amount of flavors, but they were really good tacos with a great fry batter. The drinks were the best part! The drinks were strong, but still tasty. We ordered duck fart shots, a rum runner, a pier punch, and a Pineapple Express. Hunter was our server and he was amazing! Now for the entrees..... We had 2 grouper baskets and I just have to say that the grouper was disappointing. They were so thin and dry I had one bite and gave the rest back. I ordered the chicken tenders basket. The chicken was dry and wasn't hot at all. The fries with the baskets were pretty good though. I would order them on their own. My youngest, got the mac and cheese from the kids menu. It's pretty much Kraft Mac and cheese and she killed it lol. I ended up giving her almost all of my tenders and she ate them without a complaint. My daughter is giving rave reviews on the Southern shrimp wrap. She loved it and I can understand why. It was so hot out it was probably refreshing. Her boyfriend ordered the Mahi tacos and they were the best looking Mahi tacos I've ever seen.They were blackened and had a ton of flavor. The one thing I was REALLY disappointed in were the hush puppies because I soooo love them BUT, these didn't even seemed cooked on the inside. I took one bite and that was it. No sweetness at all. Our food arrived pretty fast and it was nice that they came to take our empty dishes quickly. I have to say that the staff was probably the nicest we had so far. For the price, I would totally skip this place just due to the inconsistency in the quality of food. Stopped in to get a fun drink and a slice of key lime pie, which sounded good, but I wouldn't get again. The oreo crust mixed with key lime wasn't the best combo. Maybe if it was the vanilla oreo? I also got a drink in a pineapple because I saw it on the sign and it looked so good. Tasted amazing, but even though I got it non alcoholic it was still just as expensive. I didn't see a price sheet, only for the drink itself which was $6 and I got the lava flow flavor. To get it in the pineapple was an additional $7, but it was made with love and extra fruit on the top - very fun so I can see the price, however I wasn't aware of this, but they charge a to-go fee. The drink was amazing and as I walked the boardwalk everyone kept asking where I got it because they wanted one too! So drink: pricey but delicious. Key lime pie: not so much. read more

Visited this restaurant while on vacation with my hubs. This restaurant is located beachfront at the entrance to the fishing pier. They also sell bait and fishing items next door. Their claim to fame seems to be their extensive menu of frozen cocktails and the outdoor seating there at the entrance to the pier. I'm sure in the hotter months they are very busy. The restaurant is squeezed in there with the other businesses. Our server was very attentive and server was knowledgeable of the menu. My husband had, as always, the basket of shrimp. He was very impressed--best he's had in the area. I asked for the fried scallops, but was informed they weren't available. I ordered the grouper fingers which were cut, and tasted--more like flounder. It was very good--just not what I had in mind. I ordered a pineapple margarita... not very pineapple-y but ordered the traditional version and it was better. Their forte is the sweeter, frozen drinks and soft-serve ice cream. Black beans and rice would be improved if the cheese topping was melted but was nonetheless tasty. Nice overall presentation. There was no seasoning so I had to drown it in the sauce they gave (which had an up charge btw). The fries were good too but my meal cost like $18 for fish that tasted like the color gray. My wife got the buffalo chicken wrap and it was just okay. The waitress was nice but we saw her when she took our orders and when she gave us the bill. She didn't come by our table much at all. So we ended up eating here 3 times in 5 days. It was so good!! I am adamant that I don't eat at chains while on vacation. This place was definitely awesome. It's a dive bar that's right next to the pier entrance. They were socially distancing people which was good!! First night we had shrimp Alfredo and grouper tacos. Bother we're so tasty and filling. I recommend the spicy ranch for the tacos. Next time I got boom boom shrimp and a Mermaid drink. It was perfect as we sat on the patio overlooking the beach. This was the worst hostess experience ever and they weren't even busy. When we walked up, we were treated as an inconvenience. Not " Hi, how are you?" It was more like, "What do you want? ". After the 2 hostesses argued in "not english" in front of us for 30-45 seconds about whose turn, it was to get off there worthless rearend and show us our table, they finally took us to a table. That table didn't meet our specifications (umbrella) so I asked if we could have that table (and pointed to one with an umbrella with nobody there) and was once again treated like an inconvenience.
