Horrible service! We (party of four)got to the restaurant at 8:15pm. We were told immediately when we were seated last call is at 8:45. We ordered everything at 8:30. At 8:45 she brought the bill and requested we pay to close out the register. At 9:05 5 min after closing she asked us to leave. The waitress was very rude and told she needed us to leave so she could go pick someone up. We paid over 100$ to be rushed and treated really bad all within a 50 min time frame. read more

Sushi was good. Service was terrible. I went in around 3pm and had placed an order for pickup. There were literally only two tables seated at the time. I paid for my food and then I was standing by the front waiting and the server/Hostess told me I couldn't stand there because it's a fire hazard and that I couldn't stand near the door bc it would block people who would be coming in. I'm sorry - there is no one coming in at this hour and if they do, I'll clearly move and allow them to have a great experience. She made me wait outside. With no one else in the restaurant. Then, I asked her for some gluten free soy sauce when she handed me my order and she told me that each packet of gluten free soy sauce would be an additional .50 cents and since I had already paid she was not going to just be nice and give me a packet or two, she wanted me to get my credit card for $1-1.50. She added that they only give them to people who order gluten free rolls. I guess me ordered only sashimi doesn't count as gluten free. I've never been charged for that sitting at the restaurant, why would I be charged .50 cents per little packet when taking it to go? Either way, super rude and terrible customer service. I order takeout at least once a week from here. I always order the same thing which is the chirashi bowl. I've noticed that from a few months ago to now, the quality has really gone downhill. with more than a hundred check-ins at their CARLSBAD location, kinda weirded me out to eat here (is there such a thing as restaurant infidelity ??) but we were down this way after dropping our barely teenage daughter at a friend's birthday party at PIZZA PORT BRESSI RANCH and the barely-not teenage son was craving sushi. recognized several of the chefs and servers who trained in CARLSBAD and since the two restaurants share a menu, the transition was a little easier. we had a couple of our regular orders (TUNA SASHIMI, UNI and a SALMON-SKIN hand roll) and they were all good but for the most part ate things we hadn't had or at least hadn't had in a long time. the MONKEY BRAINS roll (their spin on the regular menu's MONKEY roll) was difficult to eat -- not exactly chopstick friendly -- but the flavors were especially tasty. for an AMERICAN-style roll, this one was a real crowd pleaser. the MOMO roll (spicy tuna and cream cheese in a seaweed wrap, deep fried and finished with eel sauce and spicy mayo) was rich with interesting textures. the CROUCHING TIGER roll (shrimp tempura and spicy yellowtail inside, shrimp and captain sauce outside) and the EL FUEGO roll (spicy albacore, jalapeño and cucumber inside, krab, avocado, spicy mayo, eel sauce and tempura bits outside) were both good, standard AMERICAN sushi style rolls. at this HOOKED ON location they need to pack their rolls a little tighter -- as finger food, important that bites survive the perilous journey from plate to mouth in one piece ... read more

What an honest to god horrible experience tonight. After hearing so many good things about this place, I was so excited to try it out but I will probably Ng honestly NEVER come back again because of the horrible service from Maria and a disgustingly display of customer service from Kelly. When we seated at the bar, got our waters promptly and when our server Maria came she asked if we kneW what we wanted. After that Maria NEVER came by again to check to see how we were doing and NEVER came by again to refill our drinks. She literally ghosted us. Incredibly rude. It wasn't until I started kind of drumming on the bar out of boredom that our server was like "is everything ok" I responded with "yep just been waiting about 20 minutes for our check" I know this because I timed it on my phone. Anyways our bill came from a girl named Kelly. When she dropped our check she said "here's your bill in a timely manner" Why she felt like she needed to say that was beyond me but I found it so rude and such a disgusting way to treat your customers. Decent sushi to satisfy your craving - they have a variety of specialty rolls on the menu (but no prices - both that my party ordered were $12.50, just FYI), and they're pretty large in size. Also a nice selection of non-sushi items to cater to all members of your party, and some Americanized versions of sushi rolls for those less adventurous (myself included...). The service was okay - it's a relatively small place, so it's pretty easy to track down your server if you need anything. Our server did bring out 2/3 entrees about 5 minutes before the third was brought out, though, which is never ideal. read more

This is a very late review, but I'm still not impressed. I think they just make everything look pretty with flowers, bit isn't up to par with what I would want. Their rolls are HUGE and as much as I want to say that's a good thing, it is difficult to eat. Service is still awkward. I was given a gift card from the owner for the inconvenience of last time, which is extremely kind... So maybe train your staff to be that way too? Because I was greeted, but the host did not seem approachable. And to avoid further neglectful service, we sat at the bar. Our chef was nice, but didn't seem happy. Sadly, still a let down for me. Love this place. Food is great and fresh. Favorite roll is Mexican's gone wild...super tasty and different. They need to improve their edamame options as other spots offer better options here. Ambiance is very family oriented and for the sports lovers like me, their projector screen always featuring a game is the bomb! This was my third time. I picked this place this time because I'd received this email offering $10 off before or on my upcoming birthday. When I asked whether I could use the offer, they said I even wasn't a member of their loyalty program. Then, they said they'd lost my membership because their system had changed. My email offering $10 off that'd expire on my birthday had been sent by their old system erroneously, according to them. Then, they said their system hadn't changed, and what'd changed was only their devices. Their new devices would've shown my birthday if it'd been between one week before and after my birthday. They said they'd give me $10 off if I came back between one week before and after my birthday and reminded them of my birthday. But they said their new devices would automatically remind them of my birthday? They just didn't want to give me $10 off, even though they'd said they'd in their email to me? This is my major complaint with pretty much any California sushi restaurant but this was excessive. Took myself out for lunch and was excited for a light lunch and was planning on going shopping later. Unfortunately it kinda ruined my day feeling bloated and gross after my experience. I never order off the "lunch special" menu at sushi restaurants because I know that they fill with rice and other fillers. So when I go to sushi I pay full price and expect fish. Ordered the green lip mussels and had to dig for the mussel. Heads up if people are ordering green lip mussels they probably are either adventurous eaters or want green lip mussels not baked Krab with mayo on it. ‍ Also ordered the "Stark protein roll" which doesn't have rice and is a mixture of fish including krab, spicy tuna, albacore, salmon and cucumber wrapped in a seaweed alternative. (Name escapes my mind). It was huge and was truly all tuna and krab with a little salmon and little to no albacore. Not good. The saving grace was the salmon hand roll which can you believe it actually had salmon in it! Also good wine choices. I love the hooked on sushi in Oceanside so was extremely disappointed with my experience at the sister restaurant in Encinitas. If you want filler California sushi this is right up your ally. I always go to this location for lunch, but today I was very disappointed with the way my sushi was prepared. When I brought it to the attention of the sushi chef, he said that's the way they prepare the dragon roll. There was hardly any eel on it. When I have been going and ordering the same thing for years, the chef argued with me that that's the way it was and is. I am not going there again. They raised their prices,ok. But don't skimp on the quality of the sushi! I will go somewhere else and get what I want and will be happy to pay a higher price. They just lost my business and my company's business. This was my first time at Hooked on Sushi, and as the reviews promised, the food was great. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by the staff. Everyone was super friendly. There is reggae music playing throughout the dining room so it gives it a laid back, fun ambiance. I had the Pink Lady Roll as well as an Agedashi Tofu app. I wasn't sure what the captains sauce on the roll was, so the staff gave me a sample to try before ordering, which was very nice. The roll was fresh, tasty, and had plenty of fish in it. The Tofu was delicious as well as the broth. Not too sweet, not too mushy. I enjoyed my entire meal and will definitely come back again to try out other items on the menu read more

This place is terrible. We got takeout last night including 5 different vegetarian rolls, tempura, and seaweed salad, and every item ranged from mediocre to inedible. All the flavors were flat, everything fried (tempura and multiple items in rolls) was soggy because they pack everything in sealed plastic containers, and nothing sat quite right. The shiitake rolls were super chewy (like they left the stems on the mushrooms and undercooked). Maybe the fish is better here or something, but definitely would not recommend their veg items. read more

Always enjoy eating here. I am gluten free, so must use special soy sauce that's made without wheat, called Tamari soy sauce. They recently started giving small packets of the soy sauce, 2 packets per gluten free roll, which is not enough. They charge 50 cents for each additional packet. While the food is great, I seriously question how often we'll come here since I hate that nickel and dime-ing attitude, to not even give their customers sufficient soy sauce and to charge for more. This is so wrong! No other sushi restaurant I've ever been to has charged for Tamari soy sauce, ever! Shame on you Hooked on Sushi. read more

Otherwise it's important to note how terrible the service is here, the workers are genuinely brain dead, there is not a single idiot on the lot that can properly take your order, make sushi that wont kill your intestines, or employ basic customer service skills. We tried at least 4 or 5 places in the area, and Hooked On Sushi has become our place for our weekly sushi dates. The atmosphere at HoS is modern, fun, and friendly. Everyone is always eager to welcome you, and their reggae music always gives a laid-back vibe. Service is always prompt; we have never had a bad experience. This restaurant is definitely kid and family friendly; they even hosted their own Santa Clause one weekend around the holidays. One thing that is very important to us when it comes to sushi is the overall value of our sushi meal. HoS always offers fresh, delicious fish in generous helpings (no tiny rolls here!), all at a reasonable price. Another reason we love coming here is their rewards program for frequent diners like us.
