This sushi house is located on the second floor of the Village Faire Shopping Center. It is small but has some big windows that provide decent lighting. We were promptly seated at the sushi bar. Service was ample not incredible. Not much interacting with the sushi chefs like I am used to. We were both hungry but not starving so we kept our dinner light. Menu is diverse and offers many choices. We enjoyed the a rainbow roll and a spicy scallop roll. Both items were good. Ambiance is kind of unique as on the first floor of this building is another restaurant/bar with a live band playing on the weekends. So if you are looking for quiet and intimate place, this probably won't work for you. We did go downstairs to dance after we ate! It's just your average sushi bar. Only thing that makes this place good and convenient is its location. Hubby got two rolls, & I got one. We also got one a tempura shrimp app. Total was $91. Crazy. My roll barely had any fish and I asked for the chef to add scallops... scallops made the roll an extra $8 and there was definitely not $8 worth on it. Overall, service wasn't bad and our waitress was really nice. So is the ambiance but mind you it's not quiet when the bar below them have bands and music playing. I'd probably go again, but again only for convenience . There are plenty of other sushi options around that are better, but the price tag is probably the same if not more. read more

Fresh Fish offers great food at a reasonable price! I love their bento boxes,such a good value. I ordered a bento box that included sushi and sashimi, with add-ons for just $1.50 each. The box was originally $22, and with the add-ons it came out to $25, which was totally worth it. We also shared the Marilyn Monroe roll, and it was delicious. The food was excellent overall, and our server was very kind. That said, it did feel like they may have been a bit short-staffed. We weren't asked if we wanted refills, and our table wasn't checked on very often. Other than that, the experience was great. The location is a plus too? conveniently located above The Coyote grill. I absolutely loved this sushi restaurant! Located by the beach in the heart of Carlsbad village, I came on a Sunday with my sister and the ambience was very much alive. The restaurant is located above coyote Grill . There was a live band below sushi Taisho. There is a lot of positive energy during the sunny afternoon . My sister and I ordered a passion mango sushi roll along with a side of pokey nachos and it was delicious . The restaurant was busy , it took a while for the service to realize, we have been waiting for a while. Mauricio noticed us and he took charge when the other ladies forgot about us. He gave us the mango roll as a recommendation. It did not disappoint at all. The pokey nachos were delicious. They were sweet and spicy. Overall, the fish tasted fresh. Got here for lunch with my creative crew. This place is bright and simple, with a lot of big windows, good vibe for a midday hang. The menu is huge with celebrities named rolls as their specialty. We ordered super Mario, Bruce Lee, bob marley, unicorn. All the rolls were decent, nothing mind blowing, but nothing to complain either. We came here on Sunday evening. As busy as it was, we were able to be seated along the outside one the place. You can overlook the Coyote restaurant's seating outside below. There's live music (keep in mind that if you want to talk, it's kinda loud... along with the Coaster's horn as it passes by). They have a pretty good size menu to order from. We ordered the Sushi Taisho, Marilyn Mon-Roll, and the TNT roll. The rolls were pretty good in size (larger than what we expected). It was hard to have the entire piece go into your mouth without it falling apart (at least for me). They were pretty good overall. Parking was a little tough. Haven't been to Sushi Taisho in a while! So glad I came back! It was even better than I remember! It was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio and enjoy the day with some lemon water and sushi! The fish is so fresh and delicious! Tried the poke bowl today and it was really good! It has a mustard soy sauce which was surprisingly good. Only caveat: come HUNGRY if you order the Combo--two small rolls (California and spicy tuna) but 13 pieces if sushi (everything from tibia, yellow tail to white fish, salmon, etc). Sushi Taisho is very popular with the Yelpers so my family gave it a try on a recent trip to LEGOLAND. The restaurant is located on the second floor with a very modern and inviting atmosphere including a nice outdoor patio. We originally got seated outside but decided to move inside because the live music from the bar downstairs was too loud for my young kids. This Asian fusion sushi bar had lots of unique and tasty options. However with my kids we decided to go with the familiar California rolls, potstickers, egg rolls and tempura which were all very good. We'll be back again next time we head to LEGOLAND and be more adventurous and try their sushi! read more

We had to wait to be seated, but it was worth the 20 minutes. A band was playing downstairs and we could clearly hear them, so enjoyed the music until the hostess brought us inside. The food was delicious. I had the spicy tuna crispy rice and a bento box with tempura veggies and vegetarian spring rolls. It was a lot of food. Wow! The reviews on this place were not lying. This sushi place is excellent. We came here tonight with my husband without a reservation or anything, I don't think they take any currently (so says their website). The inside is really cute with green leather booths, a cute neon sign and gold dishes for soy sauce. I enjoyed the decor. Staff was very friendly and immediately they greeted us by the door. We were seated right away. They had a couple of tables available. As a side note they have a pretty nice patio, but it was too cool for us on this night. We would definitely sit out there in the summertime and maybe bring our small dog? If allowed. We kicked things off with a couple of beers and some strawberry soju (my fav). Then we moved onto the sunset tuna carpaccio (8/10) which was delicious but a little hard to eat with all the pineapple and mango pieces falling off the fish. I liked this. My husband's pic was the New York lobster roll. He LOVED this with the lobster on top with drawn butter- a 10/10 from him. I love a salmon skin hand roll and got one here. Honestly was the best one I ever had. Salmon skin was crispy- no imitation krab in sight (I find a lot of sushi places at imitation craft to their salmon skin hand roll. I really hate when that happens as I don't like krab with a k myself) 10/10 here as well. We got a nice sushi combo to share with a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and some maki cut rolls as well. We ordered fresh wasabi (a must for me) and it was amazing and fresh. We will be back! I think I found my new favorite sushi place. read more

Let me preface this by saying that I would have loved to have given this place a 4-star rating, but we just can't get past the bulgogi entree that put a damper on our experience. This is such a great spot for SUSHI in Carlsbad Village! They had a good amount of seating both indoor and outdoor. They also had some heaters for their outdoor seating, which were pretty clutch on a cold winter's night. The staff were friendly and the service was fairly quick. We did beat the dinner rush though, so we were seated immediately. However, once 5:30-6pm rolled in, seats instantly filled up and they even had a line out the door. What we tried: Honey Roll - so dang delicious! It had everything I love and want in sushi roll form. The torched salmon on top was exquisite and just melted in my mouth! This has got to be my newest favorite and I can't wait to have it again already. Poke Tower - AHHHH-MAZING! I devoured this like there's no tomorrow. This was simple and straightforward in terms of poke ingredients; it was also pretty eye catching with it being a tower and all, but it actually tasted divine. The ahi tuna that it came with was fresh and tender. Every bite was just ultimate poke heaven in my mouth. Bulgogi Entree - this one was a big let down for me and my husband, especially after loving the sushi roll and poke tower. Almost every piece of beef in our dish was so dry, it was quite unpleasant to eat. They almost forgot to serve us the miso soup and salad that came with the entree too. They had it served only after we asked about it and when we were about to leave. For the price they charge you for this entree, it's definitely disappointing and not worth the money. We'd consider going back here, but only for sushi next time. I think it's safe to say we'll be skipping the entree part of their menu. read more

I feel terrible leaving a bad review for a local business, but this was genuinely the worst meal I've had out in years and years. The service was good to be fair. The biggest problem was that all the sushi was warm!! None of the ingredients were cold. Salad was sad and limp, too. The ambience wasn't great either on the patio. They need to pressure wash the ground and make it more visually appealing... there was junk and propane tanks sitting around everywhere. We are not picky diners, but it was noticeably bad. Sadly we won't be back. :( I hope they'll take this info as a genuine nudge to improve. This place has potential! read more

I found this sushi restaurant on Yelp when I wanted to eat sushi near the beach in Carlsbad because it had good reviews. At first I didn't have a great first impression because NO ONE working there is Asian and I always feel like it's better to eat Italian food cooked by Italians, Mexican food cooked by Mexicans, etc. So I was prepared for some janky sushi....but it actually ended up tasting good! Like good enough where I'd eat it again! Everything was fresh and they have A HUGE menu of tons of sushi rolls to choose from which was fun. The service was outstanding! Everyone was so friendly, helpful and attentive! The restaurant is located on the second floor and you walk up stairs to the left of the restaurant to get there. Parking can be hard on prime time but it's not a far walk if you have to park outside the center on the street like I did. To be fair, I'm not a sushi person so there is that. This place was just ok for me. We had a big group so tried a variety of things. A tofu appetizer and the pork gyoza which were both a little bland. Edamame. A CA roll which was as expected. The other ladies did like their sushi/fishy rolls. I had the garden roll which was also a little unfulfilling taste wise but the Pumpkinstein had some excellent flavor and it surprised me. Normally I just dip things in soy sauce and wasabi or Sriracha if they are lacking flavor but all this place offered was low sodium soy sauce. I have never been so restricted, lol. I asked for full salt soy sauce but they didn't have it. They gave me some to go packets which they weren't sure about but it also was not full soy sauce. Service was good. Small place. The wait was quoted 1hour so we grabbed drinks blow at coyotes b&g and Selena the hostess was super nice and worked with us to be able to have enough time for both, since the wait was shorter than expected We sat outside above the live music which was such a treat !! I can't remember our server's name, but she was very kind and suggested great things which we tried ! Prices are very reasonable and the sushi VERY fresh! We were able to be seated right away and the outside dining is cozy with heaters and a view of the downstairs pub that had live music toward the end of our dinner, although a bit loud, we were finishing up, so it wasn't bad.
