Visiting from out of town, and we enjoyed this place a year ago so we came back again. We came here for an early dinner on a Monday and it wasn't crowded. The outside patio was nice. It wasn't too sunny and had a breeze. I don't know if it is everyday, but the bar downstairs had karaoke. The food was delicious and portions were big. The Beach Bum is their version of a spicy tuna on crispy rice. Each bite was a mouthful and it was delicious. I ordered their salmon skin roll, thinking it would be a small roll since I wasn't that hungry. Well, I struggle to finish it all. It was just too much for me. My daughter order the Tasha Combo 1. It says substitution, but my daughter is allergic to shrimp. They were able to swap it out with another salmon for an up charge. She enjoyed it a lot. We also got two Udon soups, which my wife and son liked a lot. My other daughter got the Salmon Teriyaki, which she loved. For the vegetarian, there is a good variety. The udon soup is vegetarian and we just got one without the fish cakes. We also got the fried tofu without the bonito flakes (which is fish). Overall, a very nice place for Japanese food. We definitely will come again.
I absolutely love this place! I've come here multiple times whenever I am craving sushi and the food and service always hits the spot. So many fun things to do in this area too. Manny was our server and he was friendly and provided great service. We went with Manny's recommendations for our drinks. We ordered the Coconut Nigori, a Latitude Blood Orange IPA, and the Asani. All of the drinks were tasty. We ordered the garlic edamame, that is always was addicting to eat. For our entrée, we decided to go with the two item bento choice. We ordered the shrimp crunchy roll and the spicy tuna roll. Both rolls came out so quick, perfect, and tasted delicious. We also ordered two miso soups instead of white rice, which was a little bit of a charge, but that was fine. And I cannot forget the green salad this came with. So good! The dressing on this salad was amazing! Overall we had a great experience here and every other time I've come here. They were even showing one of the FIFA World Cup games that was chill to watch at this restaurant. 10/10 recommend this place!
This sushi house is located on the second floor of the Village Faire Shopping Center. It is small but has some big windows that provide decent lighting. We were promptly seated at the sushi bar. Service was ample not incredible. Not much interacting with the sushi chefs like I am used to. We were both hungry but not starving so we kept our dinner light. Menu is diverse and offers many choices. We enjoyed the a rainbow roll and a spicy scallop roll. Both items were good. Ambiance is kind of unique as on the first floor of this building is another restaurant/bar with a live band playing on the weekends. So if you are looking for quiet and intimate place, this probably won't work for you. We did go downstairs to dance after we ate! FUN FACT: The Village Faire Shopping Center is the home of the Carlsbad Village Street Faire held twice per year (in May and November).
Back years later and still very good. The fish is fresh and the rice is perfectly made. Highly recommend.
We were at Carlsbad Village Faire and we saw Sushi Taisho while we were walking around. The aroma in the air was irresistible, so we decided to dine in at Sushi Taisho. The restaurant is located on the second floor. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The weather was very nice, so we chose an outdoor patio. They have many delicious rolls, salads, bowls and noodles, sashimi, Sushi combo, nigri, house rolls, hand rolls and more. Our server was very attentive and friendly. He filled our water many times. The service was outstanding and fast. We ordered many rolls. -Soft shell crab. It was the Best! Crispy, flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Spicy Sushi taisho, Yesterday roll,Bob Marley roll, Escolar sashimi , North coast roll, Lemon roll, Samurai roll and Hawaiian roll. The rice were fresh and seasoned. The rolls were savory, creamy texture,fresh and rich, just divine! We had a nice dinner and excellent service. Yes! I will be back to Sushi Taisho.
Delicious, fresh sushi and the best staff! Everything we ordered was ready super fast and was made to perfection. The garlic edamame came out steaming and was a great appetizer to the salmon and snow crab house rolls. Of course, can never go wrong with a spicy tuna crispy rice! Such a great spot, can't wait to return when I'm in the area.
It's just your average sushi bar. Only thing that makes this place good and convenient is its location. Hubby got two rolls, & I got one. We also got one a tempura shrimp app. Total was $91. Crazy. My roll barely had any fish and I asked for the chef to add scallops... scallops made the roll an extra $8 and there was definitely not $8 worth on it. Overall, service wasn't bad and our waitress was really nice. So is the ambiance but mind you it's not quiet when the bar below them have bands and music playing. I'd probably go again, but again only for convenience . There are plenty of other sushi options around that are better, but the price tag is probably the same if not more.
This has been my go to restaurant for the past three years, but today was one of the most uncomfortable experiences, I've had while dining here. The server Manny was not attentive. When me and my friend were seated, I was blatantly ignored while he only acknowledged my friend referring to him as "bro". Although friendly, it is unprofessional. Our food was brought to us by a different server. He checked on all surrounding tables except for ours. I had an issue with my food and when brought to his attention, he gave me a very dirty look, and he hesitated before even addressing the situation; and just stared at me. He checked out all other tables except for ours while we sat there with no boxes clearly ready for our bill. When exiting the restaurant, we were acknowledged by other staff members politely , yet we again were ignored by said server while passing him on the way out. I've had birthday dinners at this restaurant, and I absolutely love the food. However did not enjoy this experience.
Loved this place! My bf and I stopped by for dinner and we are so glad we did. We didn't have a reservation but we were able to sit at the sushi bar. We started off with the monkey brains appetizer and omg it was so good!. We also ordered 2 tempura/baked rolls but I didn't get a picture of those bc we devoured them. I ordered the Boston Lobster roll and my bf ordered the BSCR roll they were very similar except for the BSCR roll had scallops and I think that was my favorite one. The restaurant is super clean and they have a restroom inside for customers. They have both outside and inside seating. Our waitress was great, she checked in on us regularly. We were hungry and didn't have to wait to order she was on top of it so I appreciated that very much. One thing I would note is when our rolls were served since they were very similar the server didn't know which roll was which so we had to figure it out. It's not a big deal and I think he was probably new and training. Overall, so glad we found this gem. I'll definitely be back.
Everything else was fine until I tried the Super Mario sushi. It was unbelievably spicy. I had four pieces and couldn't tolerate any more. I usually love spicy food, but this was on a completely different level. The manager argued with me the entire time, insisting that the ingredients and the pepper icon on the menu meant I should have expected it. I understood that it was labeled as spicy, but customers should still be warned when a dish is extremely spicy, far beyond what most people would reasonably expect. The manager eventually agreed to remove it from the bill, which I appreciated, but she wasn't willing to listen to any feedback or acknowledge the concern. The lack of customer service and unwillingness to accept constructive advice left a bad impression. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

Been awhile since we frequented this place and this most recent dining experience did not disappoint. We are twice this day: lunch before enjoying a boarding game nearby, and again dinner. Both experienced were nothing short of yum!!! Check out our pics. Total cost for both dine in experience was under $100 - and that included drinks and tips. For the food we ordered, it was more than reasonable for us.
Fresh Fish offers great food at a reasonable price! I love their bento boxes,such a good value. I ordered a bento box that included sushi and sashimi, with add-ons for just $1.50 each. The box was originally $22, and with the add-ons it came out to $25, which was totally worth it. We also shared the Marilyn Monroe roll, and it was delicious. The food was excellent overall, and our server was very kind. That said, it did feel like they may have been a bit short-staffed. We weren't asked if we wanted refills, and our table wasn't checked on very often. Other than that, the experience was great. The location is a plus too? conveniently located above The Coyote grill. I'd definitely come back for the food Location is clean for the most part but they had not wiped the bar down that well you'll see in some of the pictures I post

Ok ok I'll say it, this might be my new favorite sushi place! They were poppin on a Sunday night but our party of two was seated quickly. The staff was moving quickly but stopped to check on us in passing. I'm all about two specific dishes. The TNT was so tasty. I loved the fried onions on top of the roll. I've never had anything like this. The onions weren't soft in the middle and fries on the outside. Such a great addition. As for the TROPICAL SEARED CARPACCIO, just woooow. It's not what I expected! It's like a nigiri but instead of rice it had imitation crab on the bottom. To top it all off it had cilantro and a tiny slice of lime on top. Yum, it was so fresh and delicious. I keep craving these guys! Can't wait to come back. read more

Second story of the Village Faire shopping center. Tucked around the corner close to the train track. Sitdown full service restaurant. Casual atmosphere. Fast and friendly service. Wife and I split the jalapeño poppers (super spicy) and the protein roll, along with cups of tea. Everything was amazing! I figured the tea would come in a pot, but that's not the case, so just a heads up. Decent amount of food for a lunch, but probably not enough for a dinner for two. Ran us just under $40 including tax and tip as of Dec 2025. Not bad for this day and age! read more

I absolutely loved this sushi restaurant! Located by the beach in the heart of Carlsbad village, I came on a Sunday with my sister and the ambience was very much alive. The restaurant is located above coyote Grill . There was a live band below sushi Taisho. There is a lot of positive energy during the sunny afternoon . My sister and I ordered a passion mango sushi roll along with a side of pokey nachos and it was delicious . The restaurant was busy , it took a while for the service to realize, we have been waiting for a while. Mauricio noticed us and he took charge when the other ladies forgot about us. He gave us the mango roll as a recommendation. It did not disappoint at all. The pokey nachos were delicious. They were sweet and spicy. Overall, the fish tasted fresh. Got here for lunch with my creative crew. This place is bright and simple, with a lot of big windows, good vibe for a midday hang. The menu is huge with celebrities named rolls as their specialty. We ordered super Mario, Bruce Lee, bob marley, unicorn. All the rolls were decent, nothing mind blowing, but nothing to complain either. I also got green tea and one of my friends ordered sake to share, both were super weak. Like, did the tea leaves and alcohol call in sick? Overall, good company and sushi were ok. read more
We came here on Sunday evening. As busy as it was, we were able to be seated along the outside one the place. You can overlook the Coyote restaurant's seating outside below. There's live music (keep in mind that if you want to talk, it's kinda loud... along with the Coaster's horn as it passes by). They have a pretty good size menu to order from. We ordered the Sushi Taisho, Marilyn Mon-Roll, and the TNT roll. The rolls were pretty good in size (larger than what we expected). It was hard to have the entire piece go into your mouth without it falling apart (at least for me). They were pretty good overall. Parking was a little tough. We couldn't find any in the parking lot so we parked on the street a few blocks away. read more

Haven't been to Sushi Taisho in a while! So glad I came back! It was even better than I remember! It was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio and enjoy the day with some lemon water and sushi! The fish is so fresh and delicious! Tried the poke bowl today and it was really good! It has a mustard soy sauce which was surprisingly good. I'm not a mustard fan but it was a slight taste and really complimented the bowl. I loved it! Our server was amazing! She was quick and friendly! Can't wait to come back again! read more

Second trip here: my son and I ordered the Combo #3 and added a 4 piece yellowtail sashimi, masago (flying fish roe) and some shishito peppers. All were excellent and extremely fresh. Only caveat: come HUNGRY if you order the Combo--two small rolls (California and spicy tuna) but 13 pieces if sushi (everything from tibia, yellow tail to white fish, salmon, etc). Delicious, but very filling. Coupled with two glasses of La Crema wine, and we were golden.). I love this place! (There was a live band on Wednesdays too.) read more

Sushi Taisho is very popular with the Yelpers so my family gave it a try on a recent trip to LEGOLAND. The restaurant is located on the second floor with a very modern and inviting atmosphere including a nice outdoor patio. We originally got seated outside but decided to move inside because the live music from the bar downstairs was too loud for my young kids. This Asian fusion sushi bar had lots of unique and tasty options. However with my kids we decided to go with the familiar California rolls, potstickers, egg rolls and tempura which were all very good. We'll be back again next time we head to LEGOLAND and be more adventurous and try their sushi! read more

Wow! The reviews on this place were not lying. This sushi place is excellent. We came here tonight with my husband without a reservation or anything, I don't think they take any currently (so says their website). The inside is really cute with green leather booths, a cute neon sign and gold dishes for soy sauce. I enjoyed the decor. Staff was very friendly and immediately they greeted us by the door. We were seated right away. They had a couple of tables available. As a side note they have a pretty nice patio, but it was too cool for us on this night. We would definitely sit out there in the summertime and maybe bring our small dog? If allowed. We kicked things off with a couple of beers and some strawberry soju (my fav). Then we moved onto the sunset tuna carpaccio (8/10) which was delicious but a little hard to eat with all the pineapple and mango pieces falling off the fish. I liked this. My husband's pic was the New York lobster roll. He LOVED this with the lobster on top with drawn butter- a 10/10 from him. I love a salmon skin hand roll and got one here. Honestly was the best one I ever had. Salmon skin was crispy- no imitation krab in sight (I find a lot of sushi places at imitation craft to their salmon skin hand roll. I really hate when that happens as I don't like krab with a k myself) 10/10 here as well. We got a nice sushi combo to share with a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and some maki cut rolls as well. We ordered fresh wasabi (a must for me) and it was amazing and fresh. We will be back! I think I found my new favorite sushi place. read more
Let me preface this by saying that I would have loved to have given this place a 4-star rating, but we just can't get past the bulgogi entree that put a damper on our experience. This is such a great spot for SUSHI in Carlsbad Village! They had a good amount of seating both indoor and outdoor. They also had some heaters for their outdoor seating, which were pretty clutch on a cold winter's night. The staff were friendly and the service was fairly quick. We did beat the dinner rush though, so we were seated immediately. However, once 5:30-6pm rolled in, seats instantly filled up and they even had a line out the door. What we tried: Honey Roll - so dang delicious! It had everything I love and want in sushi roll form. The torched salmon on top was exquisite and just melted in my mouth! This has got to be my newest favorite and I can't wait to have it again already. Poke Tower - AHHHH-MAZING! I devoured this like there's no tomorrow. This was simple and straightforward in terms of poke ingredients; it was also pretty eye catching with it being a tower and all, but it actually tasted divine. The ahi tuna that it came with was fresh and tender. Every bite was just ultimate poke heaven in my mouth. Bulgogi Entree - this one was a big let down for me and my husband, especially after loving the sushi roll and poke tower. Almost every piece of beef in our dish was so dry, it was quite unpleasant to eat. They almost forgot to serve us the miso soup and salad that came with the entree too. They had it served only after we asked about it and when we were about to leave. For the price they charge you for this entree, it's definitely disappointing and not worth the money. We'd consider going back here, but only for sushi next time. I think it's safe to say we'll be skipping the entree part of their menu. read more

I found this sushi restaurant on Yelp when I wanted to eat sushi near the beach in Carlsbad because it had good reviews. At first I didn't have a great first impression because NO ONE working there is Asian and I always feel like it's better to eat Italian food cooked by Italians, Mexican food cooked by Mexicans, etc. So I was prepared for some janky sushi....but it actually ended up tasting good! Like good enough where I'd eat it again! Everything was fresh and they have A HUGE menu of tons of sushi rolls to choose from which was fun. The service was outstanding! Everyone was so friendly, helpful and attentive! The restaurant is located on the second floor and you walk up stairs to the left of the restaurant to get there. Parking can be hard on prime time but it's not a far walk if you have to park outside the center on the street like I did. Overall, I'd come back here if a friend wanted to meet me here since they have such an extensive menu of fun rolls and fresh/good tasting sushi that exceeded my initial first impression! read more

A must stop when we're in town. The sushi is so fresh every time. The service is so fast. Their rolls are some of the most beautiful rolls I've had. The prices are fair. We had 3 rolls, soup, edamame and 2 sodas for $70. We sat outside and took in the music from the spot downstairs. read more

Is there a happy hour menu?
I see crab listed a lot as a specialty roll filling. Is this imitation crab/krab? Or is it real crab?
It is real crab. A huge amount. That being said, I didn't find it particularly tasty. It was a little fishy tasting, in my opinion, without much other flavor. They do have rolls/nigiri made with Krab.
Are your gluten-free options prepared separately (so there is no cross contamination)?
Yes, they can be upon request! They can also customize most items to make them gluten free friendly! Their rice is gluten free, they offer blue crab which is gluten free (however there is a surcharge because of how expensive blue crab typically is)…
Is this restaurant dog friendly?
Hi there! We do not allow pets inside our restaurant unless they are certified service animals. However, we do have outside seating and dogs are allowed in those areas.
