Worst dining experience in my life of 72 years. Went there primarily for crab legs and other seafood selections. Crab legs not even warm, complained to waitstaff which told supervisor but he would not listen and did nothing. Table next us did the same with no results. Asked to see him before leaving and just got a spin for an answer Was also threatened to call police if we didn't leave. Waitstaff was very good and apologized many times. All hot food was in warmers for the 90 minutes we were there with no rotation. Two couples in the whole place the entire time at 6:00 PM. For a seafood buffet its was okay. I don't get me expectations up when going to a seafood buffet. There really do sntnanything that separates them from others I have been to in the area. I would suggest that the offer a soup or two especially during the winter months. The service was good especially for a buffet. They are tentative and kept the dirty plates cleared. The buffett is $50 and they have coupons somewhere. If there's one place to avoid on your trip to Myrtle Beach, it's Hook's. You'll spend well over $50 per person for freezer-burnt seafood, spoiled food, and terrible service. This place doesn't even serve Calabash-style food... if that word even means anything these days. By the end of your first plate, you'll be wishing you went to Golden Corral. Because even if you're just going as a couple, there's nothing on the menu that makes the price tag worth it. Not even their questionably sourced, chemical "treats" were enough to make up for it. Usually, dessert will at least make me feel like I wasn't completely ripped off, but even that couldn't save them here. Not even the atmosphere could make up for it. It reeked of the aforementioned spoiled meat, and the cheap, tacky furniture was both uncomfortable and stained with sweat and other juices. I will start by stating that it has been several years since my family has dined at Hooks. We noticed that it was under new management, but it had always been our favorite seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach, until 7/25/25. The seafood items we were most interested in were the crab legs, popcorn shrimp, and deviled crab. We waited at the buffet line for over ten minutes for the crab legs. The other items were not replenished until our third trip to the buffet, probably another ten minutes. The second cluster of crab legs were cold, not lukewarm, but cold, like they were taken out of the freezer and placed on the bar. The deviled crab was also cold and not edible. We requested to speak to the manager concerning our cold food and his unconcerned attitude was that we should eat something else as they had 120 items on the buffet. Overheard a guy complaining "not worth the money at all" leaving, as we were going in. And it kind of made me wonder. It didn't take long for me to figure out why. My fiancé and I sat for a while wondering if we were supposed to try to find our own drinks or what we were supposed to do. Finally got something to drink after a while of sitting there with no idea what's going on. You want staff that speaks English? Good luck with this place. Crab legs ice cold, lot of the food empty, close to it, or crusted over. Some of the items were hard, etc. Tried a couple of bites and what we got was awful. Drank the drinks and asked to pay for them and leave it was so bad. The manager was an ass, also isn't good with English. Tried everything he could to charge me b $100+ full price for both of us eating a couple of bites before figuring out it was almost not palatable. Threatened to call the police on me for disputing the issue with him. DO NOT COME HERE. I should have listened to the guy walking out the door about how awful the place is and walked away then. English? Barely. Food? Awful. Price? Horribly overpriced for what it is. Service? Slow, stupid and rude. Typical all you can eat seafood buffet. The food was ok, not bad. I mainly ate crab legs, crawfish and mussels; nice size, not over done or tough. The waiter was cool, he checked on us often. He filled the water cups without us having to ask. It was about 50 bucks per person but for the amount of crab legs I ate...it was well worth it. We were having quite a struggle while trying find a place to eat on the day we visited Hooks. One of the people in our party wanted to experience a seafood buffet at least once before heading to our landlocked home. So, we began calling and physically visiting some of the MANY MANY seafood buffets along Route 17 in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. It was mid July (2023) and most of the places were charging $55 or more per person after discounts. One person in our group did not eat seafood or meat, and every place we checked had buffet only -- so we gave up, and decided the vegetarian would just need to eat their money's worth in side dishes. The 12 year old in our group also counted as an adult. (I do understand many 12 year olds do eat as much or more than an adult.) Finally, we found Hooks. Hooks was somewhat less expensive ($47 per person before discounts) than the other places we had checked, and offered a kids price ($25) for our 12 year old, which was much appreciated, since our specific kid has a very small appetite. And, like most of the businesses in the area, there was a coupon in one/many of the readily available free coupon books. We managed to arrive at the very end of lunch time, and got an even bigger discount than we we would had we arrived four minutes later! We sat, the server asked if we were getting the buffet, and we began our meal. It wasn't until later we realized Hooks also has a regular menu! We could have saved some money if the vegetarian had ordered a meal instead of getting the buffet. There were a lot of non-meat things to eat on the buffet, but probably not enough to justify the cost. The value of the buffet in general is subjective, but in comparison to the other nearby places, it seemed decent. The food was tasty, and there were a lot of options. Fountain drinks were not included in the buffet price, which seemed standard for the area. There was a 3% up-charge for credit card use, which also seems to be increasingly common. The decor of the restaurant was very "sea worthy." There were lots of fish and thick ropes. There were also no televisions, which was great. The place was not crowded at all, probably in large part due to our timing. The air was a bit stuffy and warm, but not unbearable. I'm not sure if the air conditioning wasn't working, or if it was just kept at a high temperature. All of the staff we encountered were very nice, and seemed happy. If we ever have to return to the area (though I hope we don't) we would dine here again. read more

An amazing array of dishes on the buffet. What stood out: crabs legs, scallops, Mac and cheese, shrimp. Those were the best but everything was tasty. Shaneil was our server and took great care of us, friendly and attentive. Never felt rushed, area was spacious so we didn't feel crowded. Do note that they charge for using a credit card so bring cash if you want to avoid that. We used $5 off coupons per adult buffet with no issues.
