It's about $50 for an all-you-can-eat buffet, which I'm usually hesitant about because I don't always eat enough to make it worth it--but this is a seafood buffet with crab legs (my favorite), so we decided to go for it. And it did not disappoint. The crab legs were the highlight--always stocked, served warm, and cooked really well. I tried a few other items that were just okay, nothing super standout, but for a buffet the quality of the crab legs alone made it worth it. We waited about 20 minutes in line to be seated, which wasn't bad, but just a heads up--there wasn't really anywhere to sit while waiting, so that could be a bit tough for anyone who needs accommodations. The desserts were also pretty good, and the place itself is huge. I loved the design details--everything has a nautical/boat theme, even the buffet stations and tables, which made it feel unique compared to other buffets. Service was great. We just had water, but staff constantly came around refilling drinks, clearing plates, and taking away crab leg shells, which made the whole experience smooth. You enter the restaurant by the size of your party . Large parties if 5 and over in the left and 5 and under enter through the left for. The waitresses promptly seat you. From there you are on your way to the buffet line. You name it-they've got it. Shellfish galore. Fried fish, oysters Rockefeller, steamed and fried clam strips. You name it. I mostly went for my favorites--steamed crab legs and fried oysters. The fried oysters were cooked to perfection and crab legs were--well crab legs. Other food was rather bland tasting to me I. Mush g the fried clam strips and fried fish and fried shrimp. The breading g was not flavorful in my opinion . The desserts missed the mark for me. The banana pudding was watery. Peach cobbler was tasty but the dough on top was overdone Cheesecake was bland. Bread pudding was just ok. It had raisins--not my cup of tea. Desserts are a hit or miss. Overall a good experience. We drank water since drinks were $3.99. If you don't mind paying $50 for a buffet please go! (I don't eat $50 with of food). But it's part of the beach experience! The location is very conveniently located and when you walk in the building, it's stunning. The design in the ambience is spot on. There was a huge selection on the buffet, however, the ala carte menu was lacking in my opinion. We had one individual with us that really wanted to order off from the ala carte menu, and there was nothing much to speak of. If you're going for crab legs, this is the place to go, however, they do not have Alaskan king crab legs, just the snow crab legs. I would say this is the number one item on the buffet. They had oysters, Rockefeller and fried oysters, which were good and a plethora of dessert items. In so far as buffets are, I would rate this as one of the best that I have been at. Being near the ocean, Myrtle Beach is known for their seafood, particularly their large number of seafood buffets. Captain George's is rated pretty high, and thus was my wife and my choice for a long Tuesday dinner. It was great, as good as I had hoped. Originally founded in 1979 in Hampton Virginia, there are now four Captain George's Seafood Buffet On their site, they advertise they are the largest independent buyer of snow crab legs in the world, steaming over 1.5 million pounds in a year for their 4 restaurants. This location of the AYCE seafood buffet is consistently rated highly in various local rankings. It's one of the few that doesn't have coupons in the various tourist books floating around everywhere. Regular price is $49.99 per adult, with early bird special of $46.99 (between opening of 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm). Any customers wearing a Captain George T-Shirt dining on a Tuesday, gets the buffet for $34.99. As mentioned, the restaurant is huge, with 6 separate dining areas, able to seat over 1,000 people at one time. There are two entrances side by side, one for parties of 5 or more and the other 4 or less. The smallest table is for 4, so the two of us were very comfortable dining. Service was excellent throughout, with our waters constantly refilled and our refuse continuously being taken away. My favorites (besides the steamed crab legs) were the baramundi, mini clams, jambalaya (surprisingly good), fried oysters (they had raw oysters as well, but avoided those), a good shrimp tacos. Desserts were great too, with whole sheet cakes and soft serve ice cream. Some things that didn't look as good were all of the shrimp dishes (besides the tacos) and soups. There is something to making diners prepare/crack their own food. It definitely elongates the typical dining time, forcing a lot more dining space for what I would consider not a particularly large buffet area. It must be chaotic in that area when the restaurant is full. There are a ton of seafood buffet restaurants in Myrtle Beach, enough to eat crab legs every day of the week at a different place each time. My pre-trip intention was to stop in at least two during our week long trip, but this stop more than satisfied...enough not to want more crab even a week later. read more

We had a wonderful first experience here. The wait staff was amazing, Matt was very attentive and never let our drinks go dry and our shell buckets were never overflowing--despite how busy it was. The food was really good and was a large variety of food from steak to seafood, salad, dessert, etc. The inside was absolutely beautiful and clean. This might be the coolest buffet I've ever been! On my way here, I was awestruck at the size of the restaurant itself. It's like a mansion from the outside. There's plenty of free parking spots all around the building. There are two lines - the right side entrance is for parties under four; the left side entrance is for larger parties. I see that families like to come here. Adults are $49.99 for dinner. They close at 9 PM. Soft drinks are an additional $3.99 charge per person. I got water, and they were pretty attentive to having it refilled. As I entered, I immediately noticed the ship that served the food. It was so cool. I saw a family taking pictures in front of it. Then I realized there were two more ships behind it. You get plates from the bottom shelf and self-serve food on the counters. Lines form on either side. It's a buffet! Y'all can't expect fine dining quality here. The food here is good for a buffet. Having unlimited crab legs is a plus. Fried chicken, fried shrimp, bang bang shrimp, fried oysters, and fried scallops were notable to me. Oh, and also the dinner rolls. I like that the restaurant strategically placed crab legs in all stations to spread out the lines. Then there was a whole dessert section in the back of the restaurant. There were two soft serve dispensers, and they have cones too. The ice cream was actually really good. At each table, they have a big bowl to throw away crab legs (and other food). This place is huge; there are so many rooms. So naturally there are so many servers. There's just a lot of people walking around. The bathroom is closer to the front by the T-shirt store. On our last night in Myrtle Beach, we went with a friend's recommendation and went to Captain George's. We arrived at 4pm, as to beat the rush and it was already busy. This place is MASSIVE. Plenty of parking. Everyone there were so accommodating, polite and helpful. It was pouring out and they had guys with umbrellas helping people from and to the car to the restaurant while minimizing bring drenched. Absolutely a phenomenal thing for them to do. Inside is very clean, gives off a vibe of being surrounded by sailboats and just about a mile of a variety of food. Even our 13 year old was satisfied after his baseball game with the prime rib, fried chicken and Mac n cheese. There were options that caught my eye that I couldn't even get to. This was our third and final buffet of our vacation! All three had the exact same price $49.99/adult. This restaurant was HUGE. They have signs in the halls naming them cute things like "dockside", "port side", so you can remember where you came from to get back to your table. Downside about it being so large, you must wait in line to get your food. You have to watch when they refill the crab legs! These go fast! One lap around the buffet and they were gone! Sadly, they were missing butterfly shrimp. Their salmon was more like salmon jerky. For my nonseafood loving family- the did have some other options available. We stopped here for breakfast before heading to the airport, after finding the spot on TikTok. Glad we did--it was a nice way to end the trip! I ordered the grits with gouda cheese and pesto. Very unique--I've never had grits prepared that way before. The portion was huge (definitely more than one person needs), but the flavor was good and it was fun to try something different. Someone at the table had the Foster's French Toast loaded with bananas and said it was amazing. The omelet was also a hit. The homestyle potatoes were just okay, pretty average, but the French fries were the star--super thick cut, fresh, hot, and delicious. Everything tasted fresh and came out warm. Service could have been better. The staff wasn't very attentive--we had to flag someone down for pretty much everything, and one order came out wrong. To their credit, they fixed it quickly with no fuss, but overall the energy from the servers felt a little flat. Coming back to Captain George's Seafood Restaurant after about two years, I was honestly a little disappointed. Last time I came, it was amazing and felt like a must-visit spot, but now it feels like it's lost some of its pizzazz. The buffet still has a huge variety, and there's definitely a lot to choose from, but the quality didn't hit the same as before. Some items were good, others were just okay, nothing really stood out like I remembered. I am glad that I consulted Yelp to find out which buffet in the area to visit. This was hands down the best buffet I have ever been to. Unlike other buffets, there wasnt a single thing on the menu that was bad. The quality of the dishes did range from average to great, with someone of the seafood like scallops, shrimp, and clam strips resembling bulk frozen fish that was fried. But then you also had amazing buttery cheddar biscuits, decadent crab bisque, surprisingly tender sirloin cuts cooked like a roast, and freshly fired oysters. The star of the show was the king crab legs, steamed shrimp, crawfish, mussels, and clams. These were fresh, seasoned, and well stocked. I also enjoyed the mixed seafood bakes. All of the desserts were excellent as well. It is a cool place, clean on the inside with nice bathrooms. Very cute how each buffet station is shaped like a ship. Finally, you do have a server that waits on you to refill drinks and get rid of any shells. Im not used to having someone wait on me at a buffet, so it was a bit of an adjustment. So good! I'm off 10 skeptical about buffets, but this one combined a lot of the quirky fun of Myrtle Beach with fresh and delicious food options. While I ate a lot of crab legs, the other items on the buffets looked good as well. They had a lot of nice dessert options, and their salad bar was kept fresh and chilled. I do wish they had been keeping both of the bars with crab legs refreshed. For the half hour we were there, no one was getting any from the one buffet because the crab legs looked as if they had been sitting there for a while, and I was surprised they never removed those to put in fresh as there was always a line at the other buffet. The place is really big inside and I'm always surprised at how many nooks and crannies are in this place for seating. Went here for a second time on Sunday March 29th 2026 with my parents and a few friends as a party of 9. We went to the front, where there was no wait, and there was a separate room up the hill called Starboard, and we boarded to sit there. Most of us ordered the buffet, and one did have just the salad bar only. Our waitress was very pleasant, and got us drinks- from sodas to waters. I had a coke zero. She also accomodated separate checks for us as well. Buffet was very enjoyable, as they had everything from Steak, clam pieces, scallops, salmon, crab legs, stuffed mushrooms, fries, vegetables, jamabalya, and more. the food was very delicious and enjoyable. Even the desserts like the peanut butter cake was delicious, and 4 stars for this, there was no ice cream this visit and I was really looking forward to it! but oh well, everything was delicious though! Very mediocre seafood and not what I was expecting for a seafood restaurants buffet. Very disappointed. First red flag in quality was the iceberg lettuce on the salad bar, second was the individual packs of whipped spread, not even real butter. There were alot of groups of people from family, business outing and friends get together for late lunch. We waited about 30 minutes which was reasonable for a buffet with lots of seating. The quality of the food has drastically gone downhill in the past few years. This has always been the most expensive buffet in Myrtle beach, which was justified back when the quality was high. Our experience yesterday was far from quality. Even though it was extremely busy and the restaurant was full, almost every item we got was cold, including the crab legs which had no choice but to come out "fresh". Crab was overcooked and the shells were super soft and difficult to crack open. The rest of the buffet items were also cold and under-seasoned. For $50 a head, much was left to be desired.
