The first food-bar as you enter.

The food was very good, much better than any other all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant we've tried. The service was excellent! We received nearly constant attention and, although the servers were never intrusive, they were always there when we needed them!! The ambience, while still that of an all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant, felt more relaxed and upscale than most. Price was definitely on the higher end of the spectrum but no worse than the other big name restaurants of its type in the area. Overall it was great and we very definitely intend to return!

Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 5/5 Alaskan Snow Crab Legs - 8.2 While the buffet is pretty good, the standout is definitely the crab legs. If you don't plan on indulging in a few plates, the $49.99 price tag simply isn't worth it.

The BEST Captain George I have yet visited. The ambiance, decor and quality of food- top notch!!! The best seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach. The quality of the buffet and the crab legs were plenty

Happy Birthday to me My Husband and I decided to take a mini vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC. I surprised him after learning there was a Captain George's near our hotel. This restaurant did not disappoint. The food delicious, the servers were friendly, professional and provided a welcoming atmosphere. Tables were cleared and cleaned quickly. The food items were replaced and replenished when needed. We had a wonderful time. Thank you and when we're in the area again we'll be back to dine.

Ahoy there I'm here at Captain George's seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach, SC. This is probably the flagship of seafood buffets. First of all the service is great. You enter the restaurant by the size of your party . Large parties if 5 and over in the left and 5 and under enter through the left for. The waitresses promptly seat you. From there you are on your way to the buffet line. You name it-they've got it. Shellfish galore. Fried fish, oysters Rockefeller, steamed and fried clam strips. You name it. I mostly went for my favorites--steamed crab legs and fried oysters. The fried oysters were cooked to perfection and crab legs were--well crab legs. Other food was rather bland tasting to me I. Mush g the fried clam strips and fried fish and fried shrimp. The breading g was not flavorful in my opinion . The desserts missed the mark for me. The banana pudding was watery. Peach cobbler was tasty but the dough on top was overdone Cheesecake was bland. Bread pudding was just ok. It had raisins--not my cup of tea. Desserts are a hit or miss. Overall a good experience. We drank water since drinks were $3.99. If you don't mind paying $50 for a buffet please go! (I don't eat $50 with of food). But it's part of the beach experience! I would return...next year.

The location is very conveniently located and when you walk in the building, it's stunning. The design in the ambience is spot on. There was a huge selection on the buffet, however, the ala carte menu was lacking in my opinion. We had one individual with us that really wanted to order off from the ala carte menu, and there was nothing much to speak of. If you're going for crab legs, this is the place to go, however, they do not have Alaskan king crab legs, just the snow crab legs. I would say this is the number one item on the buffet. They had oysters, Rockefeller and fried oysters, which were good and a plethora of dessert items. In so far as buffets are, I would rate this as one of the best that I have been at. I think the service could be improved is our server did not spend much time with us at our table and it was hard to get refills on beverages.

Being near the ocean, Myrtle Beach is known for their seafood, particularly their large number of seafood buffets. Captain George's is rated pretty high, and thus was my wife and my choice for a long Tuesday dinner. It was great, as good as I had hoped. Originally founded in 1979 in Hampton Virginia, there are now four Captain George's Seafood Buffet On their site, they advertise they are the largest independent buyer of snow crab legs in the world, steaming over 1.5 million pounds in a year for their 4 restaurants. This location of the AYCE seafood buffet is consistently rated highly in various local rankings. It's one of the few that doesn't have coupons in the various tourist books floating around everywhere. Regular price is $49.99 per adult, with early bird special of $46.99 (between opening of 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm). Any customers wearing a Captain George T-Shirt dining on a Tuesday, gets the buffet for $34.99. As mentioned, the restaurant is huge, with 6 separate dining areas, able to seat over 1,000 people at one time. There are two entrances side by side, one for parties of 5 or more and the other 4 or less. The smallest table is for 4, so the two of us were very comfortable dining. Service was excellent throughout, with our waters constantly refilled and our refuse continuously being taken away. My favorites (besides the steamed crab legs) were the baramundi, mini clams, jambalaya (surprisingly good), fried oysters (they had raw oysters as well, but avoided those), a good shrimp tacos. Desserts were great too, with whole sheet cakes and soft serve ice cream. Some things that didn't look as good were all of the shrimp dishes (besides the tacos) and soups. There is something to making diners prepare/crack their own food. It definitely elongates the typical dining time, forcing a lot more dining space for what I would consider not a particularly large buffet area. It must be chaotic in that area when the restaurant is full. There are a ton of seafood buffet restaurants in Myrtle Beach, enough to eat crab legs every day of the week at a different place each time. My pre-trip intention was to stop in at least two during our week long trip, but this stop more than satisfied...enough not to want more crab even a week later.

We stopped at Captain George's Seafood Restaurant and it ended up being a great experience. It's about $50 for an all-you-can-eat buffet, which I'm usually hesitant about because I don't always eat enough to make it worth it--but this is a seafood buffet with crab legs (my favorite), so we decided to go for it. And it did not disappoint. The crab legs were the highlight--always stocked, served warm, and cooked really well. I tried a few other items that were just okay, nothing super standout, but for a buffet the quality of the crab legs alone made it worth it. We waited about 20 minutes in line to be seated, which wasn't bad, but just a heads up--there wasn't really anywhere to sit while waiting, so that could be a bit tough for anyone who needs accommodations. The desserts were also pretty good, and the place itself is huge. I loved the design details--everything has a nautical/boat theme, even the buffet stations and tables, which made it feel unique compared to other buffets. Service was great. We just had water, but staff constantly came around refilling drinks, clearing plates, and taking away crab leg shells, which made the whole experience smooth. Overall, we left full and very happy--definitely worth it if you're a crab leg fan!

    Huge restaurant (and pretty clouds)

This might be the coolest buffet I've ever been! On my way here, I was awestruck at the size of the restaurant itself. It's like a mansion from the outside. There's plenty of free parking spots all around the building. There are two lines - the right side entrance is for parties under four; the left side entrance is for larger parties. I see that families like to come here. Adults are $49.99 for dinner. They close at 9 PM. Soft drinks are an additional $3.99 charge per person. I got water, and they were pretty attentive to having it refilled. As I entered, I immediately noticed the ship that served the food. It was so cool. I saw a family taking pictures in front of it. Then I realized there were two more ships behind it. You get plates from the bottom shelf and self-serve food on the counters. Lines form on either side. It's a buffet! Y'all can't expect fine dining quality here. The food here is good for a buffet. Having unlimited crab legs is a plus. Fried chicken, fried shrimp, bang bang shrimp, fried oysters, and fried scallops were notable to me. Oh, and also the dinner rolls. I like that the restaurant strategically placed crab legs in all stations to spread out the lines. Then there was a whole dessert section in the back of the restaurant. There were two soft serve dispensers, and they have cones too. The ice cream was actually really good. At each table, they have a big bowl to throw away crab legs (and other food). This place is huge; there are so many rooms. So naturally there are so many servers. There's just a lot of people walking around. The bathroom is closer to the front by the T-shirt store. I saw an ATM machine there too. I didn't try other seafood buffets in town (there are so many), but I'm glad I got to visit Captain George's!

A cornucopia of prime rib, brisket, fried chicken, fish taco, stuffed mushrooms, cheddar biscuit and zucchini/squash.

Ask the Community - Captain George's Seafood Restaurant

Can you order off a menu? My wife eats like a bird and doesn't like seafood?

    Yes, you can.

My wife isn't a big eater and doesn't like seafood, is there a menu she could order off of and not buy the buffet?

    Yes, there is.

Hi! Do they have steamed oysters and crawfish?

They did have steamed crawfish. Don't know about oysters.

What is the buffet price in 2024?

    About $50 a person (adult)

Do they have a Buffet? If so when good food will return

Yes it's buffet style... definitely worth it and more. I've been going here for many years. Best seafood buffet in town.

My husband doesn't eat seafood, what other options are on the buffet for him to enjoy?

They have a huge variety of American staples like fried chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and a lot of various sides. Pretty much something for everyone there, seafood lovers or not. Hope that helps! :-)

Can you tell me what the prices are and is there a local discount?

    @$45-50 for seafood Buffett.

Do I have to rsvp ahead?

    No reservations necessary

Best time to go for a short to little wait?

Get there when they first open. Although I have been during various times of the day and have never waited longer than about 5 minutes. I think your party size definitely determines your wait time also. There are 2 lines, one for if its 3 or 4…

    Can you make reservations?

No reservations and no call ahead seating. Just go and stand in line. The place is huge!!

Do they serve the same food for weekday dinner that they do on the weekend dinner?

    Yes.

    Are reservations needed?

No. Just show up. The line moves quickly.

What's the best seafood buffet open this time of year in Myrtle Beach?

Captain Georges is the best ALL the time in our experience.

Are the crab legs on buffett hot or cold?

    They're hot.

Is there a military discount available?

We ask and they told us NO!

Do they have chicken in lunch buffet?

There was fried chicken and roasted chicken. We were there last week.

Is the winter feast price charged as an early bird price?

I do not know, but as I intend to return soon, I will ask.

    Are there raw oysters?

Raw, Rockefeller, and one other kind!

How much is just the regular buffet?

Our adult buffet is $34.99. Please visit our website for First Catch information. We look forward to serving you!

Located in a shopping center that has a ton of Parking. Our table ordered quite a few things. For starters I'm going to start out with the service- to be honest it was terrible. The girl serving us should be writing stuff down because half of the things we ordered for the table she couldn't remember to get for us and seemed a little annoyed when we flagged her down to ask for something again. My mom's husband also asked our server what kind of beer they had and she was giving him a hard time and kept asking him what he wanted without giving him a few examples of what bottles they had. Maybe they should get some type of beer menu if the servers can't list off at least the simple beer? Coors, corona, bud etc. We asked at the beginning of the meal to please bring us extra crackers, and extra lemons and extra horseradish. When we received our apps we didn't get anything we asked for and she had to come back to the table a few times before we got everything we wanted. Food Wise- Raw Clams and Oysters- cleaned out very well extremely fresh and very enjoyable! The pisser clams- also very good! She crab soup- it was OK but definitely not enough crab meat inside and the pieces were very small Cesar Salad- (another thing we had to remind the server to bring to the table) it was terrible and the dressing was watery Chop Cheese Burger- meat was good but they did not put on lettuce or tomatoes on it and we needed to ask them to bring that out. Crab stuff mushrooms- no flavor Some of us got food to go- I got the smash Swiss mushroom burger medium rare (the burgers are not smashed by the way) and asked for onions on it which I did not receive on it and it was over cooked My mom got a burger with fries and order a side of coleslaw (which we also didn't get and needed to ask for). We also ordered this mouse crunch cake to go- that was absolutely excellent! Like I said- this place has potential but there is much that needs to be fixed- it would probably be a better experience if you choose to sit at the bar and have some select seafood if you choose to come here.

The scale of this place is massive, but the scent of wood smoke makes it feel instantly welcoming. Located right across from Broadway at the Beach, it's a unique spot that nails both coastal seafood and high-quality, in-house BBQ. Since it was Ash Wednesday, we went the meatless route and ordered the fried catfish and their famous fried pickles. Both were stellar--crispy, fresh, and flavorful. Our server, Summer, was an absolute standout; true to her name, she was a total ray of sunshine and provided the kind of attentive service that makes a meal memorable. Even though we ate seafood for lunch, I couldn't resist grabbing a rack of ribs to-go for the next day. Even as leftovers, they were incredibly smoky and tender. We came after going to the aquarium due to the reviews. It started off very well, our server was giving us options for what to get and what tastes better and working with switching out sides , so great customer service on that one! After we ordered ....ghost town. We waited over 30 mins to get our order and once it came cool again. The menu stated the "seasoned fries" no season, the shrimp was battered shrimp fried. The collard greens tasted like straight vinegar and hot sauce. My son said his burger tasted like dirt but they forgot the cheese on his burger. After we ate my husband asked for a refill and our server went MIA. The table behind us even asked if there was a shift change due to no one coming by to help. After a few more minutes went but I stopped the nearest server to ask for a check and a box and she looked as if I asked her an off the wall question , shrugging her shoulders saying "idk , idk where your server is" ughhhh ok lol I guess they don't just help as they go along. Then our server came and we checked out. Overall it's just a tourist spot I think it would be better off going to mellow mushroom next door or hitting up WaWa on the road back home. Food was nothing above "cooked food" the chicken didn't taste smoked, all the burgers should be labeled off as coal Pattie's due to them being so dry. The hush puppies were like dry mattress balls. This place was good considering it is at a resort on the beach on the east coast. To me that means…read morenot the best. Five stars for service and attention. These people were great. Hated paying to park. But the server and host were awesome. The crab legs were ok about a three on a five scale. Just not flavorful or loaded The tomatoe bisque was flavorful and the fish and chips were great the fish was light and tasty. The slaw was a train wreck. Whoever thought to make it savory instead of sweet missed the mark. The flavors of the slaw clashed with the rest of the plate. The fish was tasty and the chips were seasoned well and plentiful. We could return here and feel ok with it.

There was also live music the evening we were there which was just lovely. Steven, our server shared the evening specials and was very attentive to us throughout our meal. Our table enjoyed delicious margaritas, the Autumn Power salad - fresh spinach, dried cranberries, fresh apple slices, and a refreshing dressing. The crab legs were delicious, two clumps with butter and lemons. We also had the shrimp and fries- 8 large shrimp lightly breaded with shoestring fries. Our land lover enjoyed the Reel burger- a juicy combination of chuck and brisket cooked to order. The bun was toasted and held up well to the burger. Overall the experience was very enjoyable. While the food was good. It was the excellent atmosphere and service that took the experience over the top for us.
