My car's maintenance light required came on and my usual place was closed on the weekend. So what did I do? I went on yelp and found the best rated place that was open. Called them up on a Friday morning and they were able to pencil me in first thing on Saturday morning. The place is a bit tucked away, but there is a sign outside leading you to it. I walked and there is a small plexi-glass between you and the front desk. Thankfully, they are all wearing masks. The cool thing is, they do have a glass window so you can see inside the shop from the lobby. They also have coffee and I believe even some Korean snacks if you want! It took about 5-10 minutes to diagnose the issue (just needed an oil change/rotate tires). Overall, it was about an hour time (still MUCH faster than going to a dealership - and probably cheaper, too). After I paid, the owner (?) asked how I liked the service (which was great) and even offered hand sanitizer (nice!). There is parking out in the front (not a lot, but okay), and they accept credit cards. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely worth coming back to if my car needs work. read more

My drivers' side door would not open from the outside. I have been putting off fixing it for over a year now because the door panel would have to be taken off to investigate the issue and that service isn't typically the cheapest. I went to AAA and they gave me an outrageous quote. I should have gone to Hoons Auto Service from the beginning! I drive a 2009 Volkswagon Tiguan and Volkswagons can be tough to fix because of the German engineering. Hoons was amazing from start to finish. He got my car scheduled into the shop the next day after I called. I dropped my call off between 8 am - 9 am. He gave me a very reasonable quote for labor and taking my door panel off. He communicated with me the whole time. He called me before lunchtime the same day to tell me what the issue was and what part needed to be ordered. He waited to get my confirmation before fixing anything. He was able to order the part from Volkswagon the same day! Unfortunately, with Volkswagon having so many different types of parts, the one that was supposed to fit didn't. Hoons communicated this with me ASAP and was able to get the part the next day. He didn't charge me any extra! OVERALL, 10/10 service. 100% transparency and customer service. I am very happy with my service provided at Hoons and would recommend them to anyone! read more

I had Recalled from Herson's Honda 2 days ago and they said I got some issue about break system have to Flush the brake. I'm not sure about that and took my car Honda Odyssey 2015 come to checking with Hoon's Auto Service. The technician said nothing wrong with my brake still work fine 40-45% maybe next time get oil change and change break next time. I'm very happy because they were very honest, fair, and reasonable. I came here because of all the strong reviews about Hoon Auto Service. I'm like, "Okay. Let's see how great this guy really is." It turns out, he's pretty damn good. I had an oil leak sensor issue with my Honda Accord. His labor costs were affordable and the parts weren't ridiculously markup-ed like at other places. I struggled whether I would give 4 or 5 stars because my only small gripe is that he's not the most communicative person when it comes to articulating what the problem was. I'm one of those people who like to be informed and educated about the issues surrounding the car. I had that relationship with my prior mechanic who would go into detail about the problems surrounding the car. Being informed from my mechanic is my way ensuring that I don't get ripped off because I understand the issues involved with the car. But I gave this guy 5 stars because when I came by to pick up the car, he managed to do something very unexpected. My remote keys had stopped working some time ago and the only way I could enter my car was inserting the key into the door rather use the remote keyless system. It would've costed me $150- $200 to get it fixed. He somehow managed to fix and seal the key together so that the signal worked again. Free of charge. After that, I knew I'd be coming back again. read more

We had a tricky electrical issue that the mechanic at Hoon's worked to diagnose for 4-5 hours. The quote for his recommended solution was expensive, but because he wasn't 100% sure of his diagnosis ("only 80%"), he charged us nothing, even when I tried to pay him for his time. Who does that these days? Took the car to the dealer, which confirmed the diagnosis, but at double the quote from Hoon's (and you can bet the dealer charged for their time). That same vehicle had a second problem, and Hoon's once again came in at half the cost and even turned it around in one day. Highly recommend. read more

A few times I changed oil at the dealer and went to Hoons for recommended service, saving a load of money. Do you ever get the feeling while dealing with auto repair people that you just don't know if they are trying to make a quick buck off you or are being honest? Hoons owner and their mechanic come across as different. I just get the vibes that they care about my car and my concerns about it (or about expense), and do right by me. To give you a simple example, I was done with repair yesterday, paid and was outside the door. Mr. Hoon (they don't tell me what their names are LOL), came outside the door to tell me something. I took my truck for check engine light. Told me that I needed to replace all 4 sets of catalytic converters costing over $ 3000. I came back home did some research on the error code(p0300, p0150). Replaced spark plugs and o2 sensor. Costed me less than $100. And now the check engine light is gone and it runs like new. If you have an unknown issue, I strongly suggest you get 2nd opinion. I couldn't find a way to response to the owner's comment below. So, I am updating my review. I wasn't going to too critical since I am not a pessimistic person. But, the owner's response is not true. He clearly told me the code "p0300" and that it was caused by my catalytic converters. If you google "p0300", the first thing recommended to check is the spark plugs and O2 sensor. He never checked or mentioned about those. P0300 has nothing to do with catalytic converter. And when I asked him how sure that the catalytic converters were the cause of the error code, he said he was certain. One thing for sure is he was either lying or seriously lacking basic mechanical knowledge. As for his question about my cost of $100, I went to advanced auto and bought an O2 sensor and spark plugs and replaced them myself. That's how. read more

HONEST, flexible and fairly priced! - This is my NEW auto repair shop -!!! I called in advance to have my 2006 Volvo S40 looked at - there were two issues, the trunk not opening, the only way to get the trunk was to access the emergency pull cable from inside the trunk as there is no key on the trunk, somehow the manual push button or the remote bottom at the key were not activating the electronic mechanism to pop the trunk open. The other issue was the Seatbelt on the driver side was malfunctioning for almost a year until it stopped working. I took the car to Hoons. The owner immediately pull the car in and started to troubleshoot the trunk, he quickly realized there was no continuity getting to the trunk, the issue was a simple cracked wire inside the plastic hose that connects the trunk to the car, he peeled the cable back and taped it together, he highlighted that that was not the proper way to fix it, but it could last me long enough before the cable had to be replaced. Then he looked at the seatbelt and quickly determined that the retractable mechanism was broken and need to be replaced but needed to be ordered. When I went to pay for the trunk repair and he said "Don't worry about it" I insisted and he replied: "No just pay me when you come to fix the seatbelt" I was VERY impressed!!! He took my information and promised to give me a call before noon the next day with the estimate for the replacement of the seatbelt assembly; to my surprise a few minutes later I had a Voice Mail on my cell, he had quoted me $635 ($120 labor plus $515 for the part). At the Volvo Dealer in Rockville I was quoted $990 for the whole thing (parts and Labor). I could not believe how expensive it was. I called Hoons back and asked them if they would replace it for me if I brought the part elsewhere and the answer was YES! After calling around and searching on the web, I was able to find a brand new original assembly for $387 a week later when I received it, I took the car to Hoons, when the car was ready, I remind the owner to charge me for the trunk reapir and he replied: "Don't worry I'm glad it was a quick fix just pay me for the seatbelt." He only charged me $120 for the labor - You just don't find HONEST and FAIR people like that anymore. Hoons has a new customer. From now on I will take my car there for all my car repair needs. read more

If you are looking for an honest mechanic, you have found it at Hoon's. Originally I called here to schedule an appointment for them to perform the Maryland Safety Inspection. Turns out, they don't do it anymore at this location. But he referred me over to his friends shop, which was Rockville Sunoco. Not only did I have an amazing experience at Rockville Sunoco, but I came back here that same day for the small repairs that had to be completed before I could "pass" the inspection. Immediately they took my car to the back and I took a seat in the waiting room. About 10 minutes later they took me into the stop to show me the bulb they had replaced, and that they had successfully repaired the seatbelt problem. So, I went to the front to pay -- my jaw literally dropped when I saw the total bill was $5.30. They handed me back my keys and I was driving out of there. P.S. I got chatting with another customer during the 10 minutes I was waiting, and he commented how he has been coming here for years -- these guys really are the best! read more

I started writing this review while I was in the waiting room. I was there for about 20 minutes and there was no one in the office. I went out to the garage to ask if someone was going to come help me and they said in a minute. I made eye contact with several of them every few minutes so they definitely knew I was there. I don't know if I was being ignored, but it definitely felt that way. WITH THAT SAID............. The service here is great. All of the other reviews are spot on. They are honest, reliable, fair, and really know what they're doing. But that first impression definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth so I'm taking one star. I was not disappointed. After test driving and inspecting my car, the mechanic put her back up on the lift to show me my dangerously damaged axle.
