Honestly, this is one of the best experiences with an auto shop I've had. Kevin at the front desk was very helpful and answered my questions to the best of his ability. We took a Ford explorer for an oil change, and after getting a good price for the service, decided to take in our Honda van to see what they could do about the brakes. Found out that the problem was larger than I thought, but they were very straight forward and gave us a quote for repairs. I chose to take the van home and they gave me my estimate and keys. This is my first ever yelp review and am glad I found this place. I called Hoons auto service in the morning asking them if they could fix my Acura vehicle stability assist and a polite gentleman on the phone told me, sure just come in and we'll take a look of the problem. Once arrived I was greeted by Mr Hoon?( sorry not sure about the spelling) and I explained to him the problem with my car, few weeks ago I had an alignment at the other auto shop and once it got done the light in the dashboard alerted me about the VSA system. I went back to the same auto shop and asking them about it but they told me it has nothing to do with the alignment and they recommended to go to the dealership. I waited for less than 45 minutes and Mr Hoon told me my car was fixed and He told me the problem was related to the alignment! No surprises there. The surprise was Mr Hoon told me the service was free of charge!! This place earned my business and I for sure will be back in the future. Thank you Mr Hoon. read more

My AC was blowing hot air. Went to Hoons based on all the yelp reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was not nearly as positive. They said I need an entire new compressor plus pipe/value, totaling $798. I declined and went for a second opinion to my old faithful mechanic up in Baltimore. They found the compressor was unplugged and all they needed to do was plug it back together. Even apologized for having to charge $70 for such a "silly" repair but had to for the diagnostic time. To sum it up - either Hoons tried to rip me (a female) off OR they are just not very thorough. Lesson learned - always get a second opinion. read more

Update: I needed an oil change, tire balance and rotation. Today, after calling a few other places around town and not finding any available time, I called Hoons again for the first time since last year when I tried to call about transmission work. The main guy answered the phone this time. He asked what I needed, listened to my response, and said to try and come by in the afternoon. He is obviously much better with customers than the person I spoke with last time. Once I arrived, another customer who was leaving heard me mention it was my first visit. He said he thought Hoons was the best around and had the best prices. A pretty bold statement, but for my first visit it turned out to be pretty accurate. They were done with everything in under an hour. Price was fine. Car drives well again after the tire work. I will return to Hoons next time I need car service. read more

They were able to take my car in as a walk in. I usually do most of my simple repairs on my cars, but I had a siezed bolt on a rear shock. I replaced the left one no problem, but I couldn't get the other bolt out for the life of me. My only option was to cut the bolt out, but I don't have the tools. So I bit the bullet and came here. I just asked if they could install a rear shock that I supplied. He took it right in, and they completed the job in less than 45 min! (this probably isn't typical for any auto repair, but was awesome) and yes, they had to cut the bolt, of which he gave me a verbal estimate of an hour shop labor for (very fair, since it was not a simple shock job) to which I agreed and expected. I was able to watch probably to their annoyment, but I like to see that work is done well on my cars (which is why I do my own work - too many bad experiences to do otherwise) and they did exactly as I would have done. Side note - another customer there while I was waiting had an issue that I couldn't help but hear (small waiting room) - wobble in front end, tire sensor light on in his car, and that he had hit a pothole. As he described his problem to the mechanics, we got to talking a little - he was afraid something big with his front suspension somewhere (tie rods, sway bars, struts,? We both waited for our cars. I was also there when they came back and told him what they found and they told him the problem - simple fix for him. needed a new tire pressure sensor and tire patch. he was out for less than $60! 5 stars in my book and I would not hesitate to bring my cars here. read more

As a first-time customer, I was very satisfied with Hoon's Auto Service. After my car wouldn't start a few times this winter, I needed a battery replacement. After looking at dealership prices, I decided to do my research, and found Hoon's on Yelp. After reading the great reviews, I messaged the business on Yelp to get an estimate of the service, and the owner was quick to respond with the exact price. I came in on Saturday morning early, expecting to be at the shop for hours even with an appointment made, and was only there for 20-25 minutes at the most! They were nice and the price he quoted me for was the price I paid, no extras, no added services I didn't need or ask for. They even checked my fluids and did more than expected. I am very satisfied with this business and plan to go back. I finally found a shop I can go to closer to home when I can't get all the way to Baltimore! read more

We've been taking our cars to Hoon's for years and highly recommend them to our friends. Its a small shop with very friendly, professional service. Both are cars are near or over 100k and have had their fair share of issues. We always feel that Hoon's diagnoses the problems quickly and charges a fair price for the fix. In one case in particular, they did a great job. Our 2004 Toyota Sienna would engage the ABS system when taking a turn at over 55 MPH. Needless to say this was a major safety concern. Extensive searching on the Internet found that others had the same problem, but no one knew what it was. Hoon's correctly diagnosed the problem as a loose part in the rack and pinion steering system. The good news is that replacing the rack & pinion solved the problem. Bad news is that this isn't cheap, but we felt they gave us a fair price. A dealer would have cost a LOT more. read more

In a nutshell? I feel like this shop is a throwback from a previous era. Mr. Chang took the time to explain to me what needed to be done, and called me when there was an extra item that I needed to take care of sooner vs. later. All of this cost me about $300 less than what the dealer AND what another area shop would have charged...and 3.5 hours less than it would have taken at a competitor's shop. AND he gave me a discount--I forgot to bring a coupon I had, but he honored the discount anyway. I have to get my brakes done--I'll definitely be back. I recommend this shop! read more

I've been taking my Toyota here for a few years now after reading it's Yelp reviews. The main guy really is nice and takes the time to explain what's urgent versus what isn't, and what your options are for each repair. I like that, as I hate feeling pressured or sold unnecessary things. The first time I went as a new customer for brake repair he even let me take his personal car back to my office for a few hours since I just stopped in on my lunch break for a quote initially, but left it since he could fit me in right away, and at a rate I felt comfortable with. After my fourth or fifth time to the shop recently for different items, I realized possibly what I appreciate the most at Hoon's is they are really very efficient and can pretty much get my car in the garage at any time, and without any holdup. read more

I have used Hoons for a quite a few years for my fleet of cars and SUV's (7). I know more about cars than most owners as I have worked on cars and trucks for 45 years so I think my opinion is well grounded... Hoons is professional, prompt, fair with pricing, and top notch customer service. I called Hoons at 11:30am for headlight installation, set appointment for 2pm, drove out a happy customer at 3pm. Mr. Chang went above and beyond top level of customer service. I told him I had to pickup my kids by 3:30 and he put 2 mechanics on the job for me so I could get to my children on time! The waiting room, albeit small, was clean and had a large window where you could watch your repair being done. The mechanics were great, worked with care and skill. In the Rockville area, there's like an infinite supply of auto repair shops. And it's hard to choose one because you've got a conflict between how much you care about your car vs what you want to pay vs how much you actually know about cars. I looked over on Yelp before an oil change and saw this place had pretty good reviews. I came over here, and I liked it a lot. It's managed by two brothers, one does most of the customer service, and one does a lot of the assessments. They are very honest, go over prices with you before they do anything, you pay after the service, and they go through the receipt with you right before you pay. They explain things very simply, and they also have online scheduling for when you don't have time to call. I have come here several times since (what are the chances of running over a nail the week after getting servicing done?), and I like talking to them while I wait (they have great food recs). read more

This is a great place to bring your car. His prices are VERY fair and work is great. I had to have tie rods replaced, two new tires, alignment, and an oil change and it was done within 5 hours.
