While I didn't get to try the coconut, the lemon is melt in your mouth yummy! The lady that checked me out was super sweet. And I love that you can see the operations of the bakery, as a foodie that's always cool. They also sell other gifts and such too besides cakes, cookies and sweets. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I purchased a frozen strawberry birthday cake for $40 and requested "Happy Birthday" written on it. Unfortunately, the decoration was highly unappealing and unaesthetic; dark bloody burgundy icing on a pink cake, YUCK, which was apparently left over from another cake decorated earlier in the day. While I accepted the cake due to being on a tight timeline, the quality of the product was the larger issue. The cake was completely stale and inedible, to the point where it had to be discarded after one slice. When I called to constructively share this experience with the owner, Megan, I was met with a confrontational and rude response. Rather than addressing the product quality, she BLAMED me for making a last-minute purchase and told me I was "welcome not to return to her store". And for the record, I was not seeking a refund but simply wanted to provide feedback as a fellow business owner - after all, we can't improve things we don't know about. Due to the poor product quality, unprofessional decorating skills and very unprofessional customer service, I will not be returning. Save your money - a Walmart cake would have been a much better choice. read more

I found these cake slices on my way to Bishop for my sons golf lessons. I mosied into the local general store called Striplings and these were on display right next to the checkout. I tossed a couple in to try and now every Tuesday I buy two slices. The cakes served at Striplings coke in slices, a slightly larger serving in a one layer metal pan, select varieties in a half cakes and there's usually a couple of whole cakes to choose from. The Italian cream is expertly done and tastes exactly like my southern grandmas. The Reese's peanut butter explosion is divine. The brownie batter slice is decadent. The Oreo is EVERYTHING. The German chocolate filled with nuts and coconut and a perfectly smooth chocolate frosting. The strawberry, Jesus lord the strawberry. A few weeks ago they had chocolate cake with strawberry icing . A few I didn't enjoy were the caramel, we just do ours different. The key lime was a miss for me too. The orange raspberry and orange cream I believe, both misses. Was visiting my daughter and have always wanted to try pound cake. I arrived to Hoosier Girl Cakery expecting to purchase a 1/2 cake. I was pleasantly surprised! They sell their pound cake by the slice and many other size options and flavors. I tried pound cake, carrot cake and coconut cake. All were moist and delish. The day I was there, the amount if butter they had out to prepare cakes was jaw dropping. So good! I might be back for chocolate cake before I leave town! read more

Love the girls who work here but sometimes the cakes taste like they were made with lard and not butter. It's not the same as before. The cookies aren't that good anymore. They are skimping on the quality of ingredients because of the price of everything. Service was always good and I love the inside of the bakery but when the prices are high and I order a cake and can't eat it it's hard because we already spent so much money and can't afford to get another one. I want family birthdays and other events will have good tasting cakes. Wonderful experience with this bakery. My best friend lives in GA and I live in IL. Unfortunately, I couldn't get down there for her 40th birthday at the end of September this year. I wanted to buy her a cake for her special day just like I do traditionally when we celebrate together so I looked for a place close to her. I found Hoosier Girl right in her area and left them a message after hours letting them know the situation. They called me back promptly the next morning and I was able to place an order for a whole cake in her favorite flavor with simple customization, let them know who would be picking it up, and pay over the phone. It was a simple, easy, and pleasant transaction. I even got a receipt via text right after. My best friend picked up her cake on her birthday with no issue. They LOVED it. She could not stop talking about how delicious it was. She said that they are planning to buy another cake for the Holidays. The cupcakes and cake slices are okay. The staff is okay. But our last visit was interesting - the bakery smelled terrible. I don't know what it was, but we didn't stay long. Went in to inquire about a cake for my daughters upcoming 21st birthday. The lady sitting at counter barely engaged in answering my questions, when asked about a certain flavor said quickly we don't make it. I asked what they had and she waived me to a small table set up with some cake slices. I did buy 2 slices to see if any good, but she again seemed perturbed as she had to go in back to get one slice. I left as she did not seem to want to sell cakes just sit by register. Very industrial looking decor as well. The slices were ok. The lime was a bit off, but the caramel was good. These people are so rude! I called about bringing my mother in law in for cake tasting, so she could decide what kind of cake she wanted for her 50th Wedding Anniversary party. We were buying a cake to feed over 100 people (so basically the size of a wedding). She told me Saturdays are busy and they only do cake tastings for weddings. When I explained that they were renewing their vows and we would be buying a wedding style cake, she snapped and said, "nope we only do tastings for weddings." I called the other bakery in downtown Monroe, The Posh Cakery, and they were more than happy to do a tasting with myself and my mother in law. The Posh Cakery was AH-MAZING! A really sweet couple owns it and were so helpful. We ended up spending over $400 with the Posh Cakery.......I can definitely tell you that I will never call Hoosier Girls Bakery again. Stopped in today with my son after randomly trying to find a bakery in Monroe. The double stuffed cake and the strawberry berry cake are the things dreams are made of! Best cake bar none. They had samples of the pound cake and it was excellent too. Tried the cookies and brownies but nothing compares to their cakes. Visiting Monroe today and walked into this little bakery. I bought 2 cakes: pumpkin pound cake and lemon cake. Both were delicious. Pound cake is usually dry, but this cake was moist with a cream cheese icing topped with pecans. Lemon cake was equally as moist and quite lemony. Loved it, especially with a cup of coffee.
