We've eaten here enough times that it feels less like a restaurant visit and more like part of the tradition. Tonight I ordered the Blue Plate Special with hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, and a big bowl of Brunswick stew. My unsweet tea stayed filled thanks to Rhonda, who was serving tables while also managing the restaurant. We learned that Hot Rod's started the evening with three servers scheduled. Business was slow, so one server was sent home. Naturally, that's when things picked up. Even so, Rhonda and the remaining server kept everything moving smoothly, and we never felt neglected during our visit. The Brunswick stew was excellent and gave us an unexpected opportunity for comparison. Earlier in the day we had Brunswick stew at Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Hot Rod's version was chunkier, with larger pieces of meat, more noticeable vegetables, and a slight kick of spice. The Fresh Air version was smoother and more finely blended. Both were excellent, but they were definitely different styles. The hamburger steak was flavorful, the green beans and collard greens tasted like proper Southern vegetables, and when the Texas Pete hit the table there was only one thing to say: "My man, Texas Pete goes on the collards." Then came the surprise ending. We learned that peach cobbler was half price today. Unfortunately, they were out. Or so we thought. A fresh cobbler was still in the oven. For the next several minutes, the suspense reached maximum peach. Finally, the cobbler emerged from the kitchen and was served à la mode. The French gave it a classy name. The South perfected the application. Warm peaches, a buttery cobbler topping, and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that immediately melted with a purpose made for the perfect ending to the meal. It was absolutely worth the wait. Hot Rod's continues to be one of our favorite stops in Social Circle, and after another great meal, I have no doubt we'll be back again the next time we're in town. So far so good. I ordered the speedy Gonzalez, which is rice, beans, an enchilada, and a taco. My girlfriend ordered the lunch #8, which was supposed to be burritos and received two tacos with rice and beans instead. We receive our food, and from the start it's not good. It's slopped onto a metal tray as if we were in a third world prison. No care, no thought of presentation in the least. I ate the taco first and could immediately tell the shell came out of a box, and wasn't cooked. The lettuce was slightly brown and room temperature. Beef was okay, seasoned well with decent texture. I finish that and move on to the "Mexican rice". To call this Mexican rice would be insulting to an entire culture. The rice was absolutely from a frozen bag, and came with corn (understandable), Lima beans and green beans, which the latter of are far from what they called "gourmet" Mexican. It was horrendous. I spared myself the cold, crusted over beans and decided to try the enchilada. Again, frozen. The beef was far from relatable to that of the taco, the tortilla was mush, and the sauce was offensive to anything close to a taste bud. Please, do yourself a favor and eat else where.

We also of course had an order of refried beans because you can't eat in a Mexican restaurant without having refried beans! Cute little restaurant very well decorated lots of TVs with many choices to keep your attention if you don't want to pay attention to who you're eating with lol

I knew I had to stop at Cowboy's BBQ after I passed it a few times while looking at houses in Covington. Some of the best food that you'll find anywhere is often attached to a gas station. The good reviews and smells made me certain this was going to be great. At first glance, prices are amazing [more on this later...]. I ordered the 3 meat plate with brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken. I chose fries and mac n cheese for my sides. The mac n cheese carried an upcharge, but this is reasonably common for places to do. I agree with the one diner who said the brisket was amazing. I really enjoyed the brisket. The fries were also fine thanks how are you? Wish I had more good to say about this place. The ribs were very old and mediocre at best. I understand that food can't be cooked to order at a barbecue place, but even barbecue has a shelf life. The ribs that I was served should've long been chopped into a stew special or something along those lines. The smoked chicken was a disgusting insult. At first, I thought I was mistakenly served an additional side instead of smoked chicken. Unfortunately, their service style is off the bone and finely diced. Storing barbecue meats off the bone is a delicate process. You have to take extra care to ensure that it doesn't dry up in the hot box. Unfortunately, no care was taken, so the chicken was dry and tasteless. The mac n cheese was very low quality. I'll happily pay an upcharge for the good stuff that's baked. I'll grudgingly eat Kraft mac n cheese. I will not pay an upcharge for Kraft mac n cheese. Honestly, all of this would've made the experience probably worth 2 or even 3 stars, but they have an incredibly dishonest, unadvertised upcharge for credit cards. The surcharge is definitely higher than their cost to accept credit cards. Some businesses eat the cost of accepting credit cards. Other businesses pass this cost to the customer. Cowboy BBQ uses this as an opportunity to improve their margins by cheating their customers.

I ordered a 6-inch Onion Chicken Teriyaki sandwich. The employee who took my order asked if I wanted it toasted, and I clearly said yes. When my sandwich was handed to me, the chicken was still frozen. I took it back to the counter and politely asked if they could heat it properly. The employee who had handed me the sandwich told me that I had not asked for it to be toasted. I explained that I absolutely had. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, she walked away from the counter to find the manager. While she was gone, I asked another employee if she could please warm my sandwich because I needed to get back to work. She told me she could not because the other employee had gone to speak with the manager. When I asked why, she said she wasn't sure. The manager eventually returned with the employee, and only then was my sandwich heated. Throughout the interaction, the middle-aged employee repeatedly gave me dirty looks, making an already frustrating situation even more uncomfortable. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What disappointed me most was not that my sandwich wasn't heated correctly--it was how the situation was handled. A simple apology and a quick correction would have resolved the issue in moments. Instead, I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong, despite politely asking for my order to be fixed. As a customer, I expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. I hope this feedback is shared with the franchise owner and management so they can address both customer service and food preparation practices to prevent other customers from having a similar experience.

I have been here multiple times and it never fails to disappoint. A few of my favourite items are Baguette - MUST PURCHASE. One of the best even compared to many of the bakeries in Atlanta. Croissant - All are very good. Highly recommend Blueberry Fontaine - becoming another favourite. Better to eat the day of. They are usually sold out so I always try to snag them. Eclairs - another staple I've been getting. The filling is delicious AND Jam packed. I only wish they have a chocolate top with vanilla filling option but that's cause it's a nostalgic thing. Smore Tart - I love this but I usually have to share with because the chocolate is so dense. Keylime - another one I always get, just the perfect flavor. Honestly haven't had a bad thing there. Also the customer service person is always as enthusiastic as we are about the goods. There is no place to sit but you can go across the square and get a coffee and have a seat in the old gas station (I've been told the bakery owns that company too)

Given my love of eclairs, and after reading the reviews about this place, my adoptive family (wife…read moreand hubby) and I, finally got a chance to stop here. While I've had eclairs and tarts from several different Italian bakeries, and 3 stores, this is the first time I've had them from a French (these treats originated in France) bakery. Even though thel size is inline with the original classic eclair (had a bit less gauche), I was disappointed. And, much prefer the Italian version. Now, they had 4 different versions of eclairs (fruit, chocolate, vanilla and, coffee), along with many different tarts, with and without, fruit. I settled on 2 Chocolate Eclairs and, 1 Blueberry + Almond Fruit Tart. BAFT: While I liked it, it was nothing to write home about. I felt that there wasn't enough almond flavoring and, the crust was a bit dry. CEs: While it was packed with filling, I think, someone in the kitchen messed up, as there was a distinctive coffee taste (I don't like coffee), rather than just the custard or, vanilla taste. Had it not been for that, I would have given them 4 Stars. Why not 5? Well, I thought $6.00 (x2) and $7.00 each is a bit expensive. Especially, considering the size of the CEs and BAFT. For sure, I won't worry about a special trip here again. And, if we should stop here again, I doubt if I'd even bother with the eclairs (maybe a fruit one???).
