Throughout the many years my family has been treated like members of a 'greater family'. Dr Phan provides caring advice and her diagnosis has always been spot on. Dr.Phan recently helped with a loose tooth. Both doctors have excellent knowledge and great tool skills. They are always friendly, respectful, and very helpful. My wife and both kids were also treated there and it has been equally great. It is a Quality shop. MVD has clean and nice rooms (since the expansion) Their equipmenty is well maintained, and have taken advantage of technology updates. They've always worked with my different health plans. (Jobs, retirement and now MEDICARE.) The office staff works hard to arrange & coordinate associative services (Like my oral surgeon) Their communication is spot on with text and email reminders. Probably the best part for me is that I can relax in the chair with little to no stress. The techs have good technique and soft hands. I always feel great after cleanings. Last year, they pressured me into getting a *deep cleaning*, claiming I was at risk of *heart disease* if I didn't--yes, they actually said that! I've never had any pain or sensitivity, and I've always been meticulous about my oral care with regular brushing, flossing, a waterpik, and mouthwash. Still, they insisted I had gingivitis and gum disease, even though I had no symptoms. To top it off, I recently went in for what I thought was just a regular cleaning, and they hit me with the news that I need *periodontal maintenance* four times a year--each session costing me at least $88 after insurance. This had never been mentioned before, and it feels like they're just finding ways to rack up unnecessary charges. After reading similar complaints from other patients, I truly believe they're scamming people with unnecessary treatments and fear tactics. **Do yourself a favor and find a more honest practice.**

They have also just added a state-of-the art teeth whitening system, which I experienced yesterday. It was painless and easy, only 25 minutes at a great price. The technology is good and there are TVs set up at each chair where a nature documentary plays and you can choose your own Pandora station to listen to in the background. More importantly though, the staff knows what they're doing. My regular dental hygienist is an absolute angel; she lets me know what I'm doing wrong (grinding, not enough flossing, etc etc) without scolding and is so nice that I feel really comfortable conversing even with things totally unrelated to my teeth. Dr. Stanford himself is also very nice and knowledgable. I never feel like they are suggesting procedures that are unnecessary or expensive. Nobody likes going to the dentist, but Stanford makes it much more bearable.

Typically, I enjoy going to the dentist, but I've also never really needed anything but check-ups and cleanings so I suppose I've had it easy. I got a Groupon for a cheap cleaning, exam, and x-rays at another office so I went for it. I feel like I take good care of my teeth and haven't had any problems, so I figured $79 was good enough for me. Big mistake! According to the dentist in the 2 minutes he spent with me, I had a tooth with a big cavity (GASP!) and it needed a root canal and crown. I've never had a cavity and now I need a root canal? I asked if that was the only option and he said "absolutely." Then he said to schedule it with the front desk and walked out. I'm not going to spend too much time writing a review about another office, but basically, I felt like I was just a number. And they wouldn't even clean my teeth that day! I figured I needed to find an office that was a more comfortable fit so I put off the treatment and started looking around again. Fortunately, I work with someone who has been going to Dr. Jim Atchison for a long time and loves it. She told me that he's conservative with treatment, is pretty much pain-free, and does great work. It was pretty close to our home, so I called and booked an appointment. I'm SOOOO glad I did! The office is super nice, has relaxing jazz music, and you have the option of watching TV while in the dental chair. Angie was my hygienist and she was a lot of fun to talk to (and of course did a really good cleaning). I briefly met Dr. Jim before my cleaning (he's really nice), but his son Dr. Craig did my exam. I told about my experience with the other office and he asked if the tooth with the cavity had been bothering me (it hadn't). When he looked at the x-rays he agreed that the tooth had a large cavity but preferred to take a conservative approach and see how things went with just a filling first. He did a great job of explaining things to me and wasn't in a rush to get on to the next patient. I was so relieved! Since this was my first filling, I was a little nervous, but Dr. Craig's shot to numb the tooth was completely painless and the rest of the procedure was a breeze. The best part is, the tooth has given me no problems since! If it eventually needs that root canal, I'll understand, but I'm REALLY glad that Dr. Craig started with the conservative option, not just the expensive one. I like the friendly, family atmosphere at the office and have already booked appointments for my husband and daughter. I recently started SureSmile treatment here, and the whole process has been so much easier and smoother than I expected. I first went in for a consult and scans that were sent off to SureSmile, and during that appointment they really took the time to listen to what I specifically wanted to improve. Then I went back in to review the 3D model and treatment plan, which was actually really cool to see.
