Mac and cheese was soo good. Other than the fact that it wasn't really warm upon arrival, again probably bc of the St Patty's volume. I added grilled chicken and the porter mushrooms. Next time I'd skip the chicken, it was pretty dry, and I'd get double the mushrooms. They were so well cooked and had amazing flavor. I hope they can do it the same back in Indy! My friends all liked their food as well. Our server didn't appear knowledgeable about the beer selection. Two or three times we asked for her suggestion between two beers; she'd answer with just the name of the beer. Lol any particular reason? We all have above average beer knowledge so regardless we liked every beer we tried. Some of my friends had their signature green cocktails and really liked them. Was passing through. Got the dorito crusted tilapia sandwich with fries. Pretty good! Big piece of Tilapia. The fish is pretty flakey so the ends that stuck out the sides fell off easily. The seasoning mix was also Pretty good, but wished it had a little more of that dorito cheese taste... Maybe flour the fish in a finely pulverized dorito mix then roll in the crushed dorito outer coat? Would definitely get again though. Service was amazing and quick! Head on over to HopCat for a huge selection of beers on tap. The list is constantly changing so pay attention to the markings on the menu. The main event here is the Crack Fries. No matter what you order, make sure you try the fries that are ranked in the top 10 in America. Although many of the menu items seem to be a little on the heavy side for me, I have enjoyed the Buffalo Rolls and The Angry Bird sandwich. For me, summer is the best time to enjoy HopCat. This was top of the list on Yelp and we were so pleased with our selection. My fiancé started with a flight and our favorite was the Blood Orange beer. I had a glass of the Hard Apple Cider. To start we had the Curd Your Enthusiam. They had to be the best fried cheese curds I have ever hand. They dipping sauce made it though. My fiancé chose the Porky Melt for his entree; I got a taste and it was unbelievable. Who knew pulled pork and raisin toast went together?? I got myself a cup of the Cheddar Ale soup and the Southwest Salad. The soup was my favorite. It wasn't thick like a normal cheddar soup; more vegetable based but incredible flavor. HopCat has possibly the largest selection of beer in town, and so it's a great place to visit again and again searching for the best brews. Can't decide what to try? Order a beer flight. My favorite not-so-hoppy beers are Soft Parade, Bean Flicker, and Milkshake Stout. The food is super good, super greasy bar fare with a twist. They're known for their crack fries, beer battered fries topped with delicious extras like cheese sauce, sausage gravy, or pierogis depending on which type you order. Food Network Magazine voted them Top 10 Fries in America, so you gotta try them! They also offer soups, salads, and burgers among other things. My boyfriend and I shared a 6-inch square pizza which was only $5 over happy hour. We loved how generous it was in terms of sauce and cheese, but I would never pay $10 for it at a regular time--too small. Happy Hour is the best time to go here, as their specialty drinks can get pricy. 3-6pm Monday-Thursday you can enjoy $5 off burgers or pizza and $1.50 off select drinks. Mondays from 3-close you can score half off appetizers and crack fries. Yayyy! Even more daily deals are listed on their website. I love the hip ambiance created through the reclaimed railroad relics, pop art, and large horseshoe booths. Lighting is dim and maybe too dark if you come after sunset. Cosmik fries are addicting, out of this world, crispy potatoes. I now understand their the old name (crack fries) with cracked pepper are amazing. Paired with the sweet sticky beer cheese sauce , I've arrived on the planet delicious along with the tacos here this place. This place gets pretty crowded in the evening hours. My wife and I went with friends and the service was slow and not too friendly but given the crowded Friday night, I can understand. The parking is a nightmare so try to plan ahead of time. read more

I had terrible service at hopcat. My servers name was amelia and she was extremely rude. We had reservations at 5:30 and a hockey game to go to at 7. We had a party of 25 and only 1 server for all of us. We were trying to be helpful and order drinks from the bar when instead our server yelled at us claiming it takes away from her guaranteed 20% gratuity. We spoke to the manager about this and she did absolutely nothing. I understand that serving 25 people is a lot to handle but thats why we ordered from the bar to take some pressure off of our waitress. She was only interested and worried about her tip. Also we spoke to her before we ordered saying we had a hockey game to be at. We missed the whole first period. Hopcat is nice and consistent: I've always had a good experience here, and tend to walk away happy. The beer selection is out of this world, the food is unique and well prepared, and the ambiance is just fine. In general, it's the huge drink selection that keeps me coming back here. The potential to try something new is what this place is famous for (at least in my mind), and that's the main reason I go. In general, the food is above average for a chain bar (even small chains like HopCat). They have a few unique menu items of note: their famous item is "Crackfries," a very American take on Poutine, the Canadia fry-and-gravy dish. Poutine is already sinful as is, but Hopcat takes it to the next level, garnishing its various versions with bacon, cheese curds, tots, and more. Besides the fries, their pizzas are very tasty; however, be warned: they are only six inches. They make for a great personal dish or a small appetizer for two. Let me just add I'm kind of backtrack just a little bit service was a little slow, the restaurant was dark very difficult to read the menu and my stepson why is trying to order different beers off their extended beer menu and everyone that he ordered she came back and they did not have I think he ordered four different ones and they didn't have so I'm sure he was kind of disappointed in that. The food was pretty good I had a fish sandwich most everybody else had burgers or chicken sandwich. We received the opposite of what we ordered ( gave me only the things I specifically asked to not have, and nothing else... I honestly thought I might be getting pranked). When we spoke with the manager about what could be done to remedy this mistake he offered to refund half of the cost of the meal to us. It was a $12 meal - so we are talking $6... The low rating is for the poor customer service. Anytime I've gotten a wrong order at a quality restaurant they have always gone above and beyond to fix the situation so that we leave having had a great experience. I went to HopCat with a group of 6 on a Friday afternoon. There was no wait time and they were completely willing to seat our somewhat large group. There is outdoor seating and while it was a little hot to sit outside, the inside was perfectly cool. The decorations are rustic with a music theme, there were paintings of artists like David Bowie, Elton John and Freddie Mercury. My friends and I ordered their famous fried cosmic fries and they were delicious. The appetizers order of fries isn't huge, it would be perfect for 2-3 people. My friends and I ate the fries within a few minutes. All of my friends enjoyed their food. My friend asked if they would be able to make a rare burger and the waiter recommended to not have a stuffed burger if he wanted it rare; then the waiter offered basically the same burger it just wasn't stuffed and my friend really enjoyed it. Our drinks were refilled without us needing to ask. Anytime we asked for something else with our food there was no hesitation. The service added a lot to the experience, and is one of the main reasons I would be willing to go back. The food was delicious (I had a Detroit style cheese pizza), the waiter was incredibly attentive and nice, and the atmosphere is very nice. Overall I loved the experience, I won't be able to go back right away because the best food there is the fattening kind (i.e. the fries), but I will always be up to going with friends! read more

We were brewery hopping and I thought I had drank Hopcat before so thinking this was a brewery we came in and sat at the bar. I saw growers with the logo but looking at the huge amount of taps didn't see any from Hopcat. All I did was ask the bartender if they were a brewery and why they didn't have any of their own beer on tap and she was very rude. I suppose she probably gets asked that a lot because it's weird they do not have their own beer on tap! She basically told me there were plenty of breweries in town and one right across the street (where we came from) and I should go there if their beer taps weren't adequate. That's what you get for talking to the bartenders here. She mentioned their bloody Mary bar (I love a bloody Mary) for $5 so I went with that. She poured me about a 1/2 ounce of vodka in a pint glass, no joke, and I went to the "bar" where there were three empty bottles of zing Zang a plate with a half piece of bacon some olives, pickles and jalapeños. It was empty and a mess. Can't say I'd come back. The whole place put me in a mood while I was there. If I had come in and sat at a table I probably would have had a completely different experience and I acknowledged that.... But I didn't. This is what I experienced and it was 1 star. read more

We stopped there today for the first time on our way back to Chicago. The food was amazing we had tacos and the red pepper soup and a burger. I was so happy you had non alcoholic beer since we do not drink anymore. We loved the fact that everyone was chilling outside with their dogs. We also had the sweetest waitress I have ever had in my life. I'm bad with names , she had light purple hair , maybe blonde. We sat out on the patio around 430ish I believe. Table of three, by the fire pit. I just want you too know how wonderful and sweet she was and our world needs more servers like her. We definitely will be back on our next trip up there. read more

In updating this review I decided to drop it to 4 stars. Unfortunately I've had one or two sub par visits which is too many to keep a 5 star rating in my book. It's not bad, but it hasn't been the best. Cosmic fries are a little over rated and some of the entrees aren't amazing. Brunch However is wonderful and the BLT is still the best thing IMO.
