We went to dinner Sunday at University Roadhouse. The restaurant was super clean and they had a nice crowd for a Sunday evening. The server was amazing telling us all of the specials. I opted for the chicken biscuit club special. I really hope that this isn't a special anymore and becomes permanent on the menu. University Roadhouse is very overprice and I don't understand why. Kalamazoo is a small town. Burger is good, $17. Add a side another $9. Portion is very small so I had to order a side salad $6. The salad is all lettuce and the crouton was soft and old. Also they have OCC charge, which is another 4%. You can do the math here I want to try their summer special menu so went back and wasted more money after work. Chicken Palo which is different name for fried chicken scrap with some Alfredo sauce. $20. Special menu has no price listed by the way, I had to ask the bartender like I am sitting in a steakhouse ordering fresh seafood. Even though I have a lot of complains, their parking lot is full every night. It is a nice tavern to hangout. If you are on a budget, get burger with water. It comes with fries. Monday is 30% off. I had heard great things about this place and really wanted to go here for far too long. I was missing out! Everything that was ordered at our table was so delicious and I'd highly recommend. One of my kids ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The bun was warm, soft, flavorful and the beef was cooked and seasoned perfectly also. We shared loaded tots for an appetizer and they were really good, covered in cheese, bacon and green onions. I ordered the mango coconut curry chicken and I'm dying to have it over and over again. My mother in law ordered the chicken pad thai and they also nailed it with this one. It could've been spicier (we didn't ask if they had spice levels). But even without it being spicier it was still really delicious and worth ordering again. My husband ordered the low country shrimp and grits and he said it was perfect. My other daughter had mac & cheese which was homemade (not too dry, not too cheesy), the pasta was cooked perfectly, and it has fresh, hand battered chicken tenders on top that were outstanding *we all loved this one*. Our waitress was super kind, helpful, never left our drinks empty and answered our many questions about the menu and was even kind to our two young kids. It's a roadhouse so expect it to be loud in there. There were sports playing on most of the tvs, the windows were open and the beautiful sun was shining in. The potatoe skins were Awesome & The Mac and Cheese was wonderful however my wrap was really dry and bland not to mention I only got like 4 tater tots through the whole wrap. Food is always great, service is hit or miss. Last time I was here I ordered the Salmon BLT. It was actually very delicious! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the sandwich was served on a flatbread so it wasn't too bread-y. I'm not usually impressed with the drinks and I should have learned that by now! Last time I ordered a dirty martini. It came out way after everyone else's drinks, and tasted watered down. I almost wondered if they A- forgot to mix the ice with vodka and just let the ice sit in olive juice and then serve it (also the glass wasn't very full) B- let the vodka sit so long in the ice and that because watered down. This is a great place for families to go with their college students!! It's conveniently located right by WMU and Kalamazoo colleges campuses and has a very large space to seat big parties. Service was great! Food was good but overpriced for sure, I just can't justify paying $17 for a vegan bowl but it was the only vegan item marked so I went for it! I called to get information for a group that goes to lunch once a month. The first call left me questioning the knowledge of the hostess. None of her answers to my questions seemed correct. I messaged, emailed, facebooked. No response. Made another cal, got another person also not knowledgeable. Got a ,a claiming to be a manager. Needed 5 days notice with daily count changes. They add a percentage to each check to cover increase in servers wages. It is up to the server if tips are added by server or if everyone on their own. certainly not going there. Very unprofessional. No one that I spoke to knew what I meant when I asked how far in advance they needed a final count. Had to explain it, as if a small child. They used to be a great place to go to eat. It may be another several years before I'd even consider patronize university roadhouse. read more

The vibe is fun, the outdoor seating is plentiful, they were very well-staffed and the service was excellent. I got the Double Double Smash burger which was outstanding. I felt disappointed during the last few visits here. We went tonight for the 50% off . We waited very long until the waitress came to take our orders. I ordered grilled salmon as usual. It was served very cold!! I didn't want to wait any longer for them to remake it so i went with it . But it was supposed to come with mixed vegetables. It came with corn only!! I asked for lemon to flavor the salmon. The waitress was very un clean. She brought it in a napkin she was squeezing in her hand and thrown it in the table ( i included a picture here). I couldn't believe this gross behavior!! Specially under the recent circumstances of covid. I felt very un safe to use the lemon. We mentioned it to her she didn't do anything about it!! Food: 8/10 service: 2/10 My bother and I (both POC) arrived around 7pm on a Monday. The treatment from the hostess and server (both non POC) were lackluster, to say the least. My brother and I were seated, given our drinks (water), and given a second to look over the menu. Within our first 15 minutes of being seated, our order was taken by the waitress. This is where it goes down hill. 30 minutes in: People seated before my brother and I began to leave, and new guest filled the vacant tables and placed orders. 45 minutes in: the new guest are receiving the food they have ordered, while my bother and I patiently wait. Our waiter (whose name I do not remember) must have noticed the dissatisfaction in my face, and reassured me our food was almost ready. She continued to bring food out for other tables that were seated after me. 1hr+: still no food. I take it upon myself to leave the table, find the server and let her know that I would like to cancel the food we had ordered due to the extensive wait. I expected our waitress to say "let me go check on your food one more time", but instead she happily responded "I'll cancel it." At that point, I asked to speak with a manager. I was greeted by Steve, who was extremely nice and apologetic. He acknowledged that my brother and I had been sitting for a while with no food, and completed the action of checking on our order (unlike our waitress). He explained that if it was in fact ready, he would place the food in takeout boxes and comp the meal. Steve came out in less than 5 minutes stating that he had the kitchen make our meal, and apologized again for the treatment we received. We were given the bag of food and discreetly left. I also would like to note that being a waitress myself, the lack of assistance from our assigned waitress needs to be addressed. Being the only POC in that section of the restaurant, with (what seemed to be) an all non-POC staff, and being repeatedly minimized says a lot about this establishment. In closing, I thank Steve for acknowledging the error and making sure that our dissatisfaction was rectified with a smile! The situation was uncomfortable and degrading. I hate to bring race into it, but this feeling is all too familiar to be ignored. It's unfortunate that my brother had to experience this first hand, and I will not be bringing my family back. read more

This place has a cool ambiance with an open industrial chic vibe. I went on a beautiful August day so the patio seating was full and we sat in the upstairs bar area. I came to this restaurant while visiting a friend, as he claimed it was one of the best in the area. Being the critical person I am, I found this hard to believe: I was happy to be wrong. Walking in, you're greeted with your typical pub-like atmosphere. It's not the cleanest restaurant I've been to, but I didn't see any red flags that turned me off of ordering food. We sat upstairs - I was stuck between ordering a burger or chicken tenders. I ended up going with the chicken tenders, and they were exceptional. The chicken was certainly tender, and the breading gave them a nice, crispy touch. These with the golden brown fries gave me a solid base for the day. Although the food was delicious, the service was pretty average. I didn't have any issues, but I can't say they left a lasting impression. Overall, I'd come back here. I'm very disappointed at how this place has become. Last time we went here, they had a wait list. And it was for more than an hour. Then after that, they gave us a very horrible table that was close to another customers table. There was no care for distance about that. And the food was lower than the level we were used to before, it was very disappointing. And the waitress who served us, she was so grumpy and had a bad attitude with us like she didn't want to serve us. I don't think I'm coming here again unless they get better. read more

Been there overtime I stopped in Kalamazoo. Consistent good service, great prices, and it's a perfect spot to connect with my student.

I wasn't sure what to expect going in to University Roadhouse due to the mixed reviews on Yelp but I was pleasantly very surprised! My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner before The Lion King at Miller. I was worried it would be slammed but we were seated right away. The interior has been redecorated recently it seems, and even though the dining area was a bit crowded it didn't feel packed and it wasn't too loud, which I appreciated. We ordered some drinks and they came out quickly. The menu is huge and a little overwhelming, with tons of burgers, sandwiches, entrees and appetizers. I had looked online beforehand and kind of knew what I would want. For food we picked the chicken artichoke flatbread and the Banker salad to share. I have to say, this is my new favorite salad. It was AMAZING. It's one of those salads that you have to pretend is healthy, because even though it's a salad, it's loaded with good stuff - seared steak, sauteed mushrooms and onions, tomatoes, bleu cheese, and "broccoli croutons" (fried broccoli). I couldn't stop eating it and definitely didn't want to share it. I would eat this salad every day if I could, seriously. The flatbread was decent but nothing compared to this salad. Our server was friendly and polite, disappeared for a bit right before we wanted to pay but we were in and out with plenty of time to get to Miller and park before the show. Our daughter attends WMU and we live out of state, so when we come travel to Kalamazoo to visit, this is always our first stop. My husband dreams about the garlic knots! So, we were disappointed when we moved out daughter back to school and had dinner here. It was busy downstairs so they went upstairs which was not an issue since we've eaten up there before. However, the service left something to be desired. It took over 10 minutes for us to even order drinks no we weren't sure if they had new cooks back there because the knots were small and not as fluffy as usual. After a long day I just wanted some really good shrimp. Lucky for me I remembered university roadhouse. The first time I had the bell's beer battered shrimp I knew I just had to try it. Best decision I've made in a long while! My new favorite had to be those Brussels sprouts though! Man those are so good and that glaze is amazing! They had these drinks called blue motorcycles on special. So we tried them. Not bad, kinda reminds me of fruit juice and a Long Island ice tea. But no it's not bad at all.
