We go to Hop's often for lunch at work. Let me just say that it is one of the most delicious places in Gainesville to grab lunch. Please note that the restaurant is open for lunch only (Monday-Friday from 11 AM-3 PM). We always place a to-go order, and our food is always ready at the time that they tell us it will be ready to pick up. Don't judge the book by the cover. The restaurant may be in a weird location, but everything that I have ever tried from the restaurant is beyond delicious, but my favorite items are the All American Burger (pro-tip: sub cheddar for their house-made pimento cheese), The Cuban Sandwich, and The Grilled Cheese with grilled onions and bacon added. So many sandwiches, like the grilled cheese, are made with their house-made "Momo Bread" which is SO yummy. Next time you're looking for lunch in Gainesville, don't hesitate to stop by or grab takeout. These guys are awesome, and I hope that one day they will open a location in a better location so that more people can enjoy the greatness of Hop's! Hop's Kitchen is fantastic! I've been lucky enough to eat there a couple of times so far, when visiting the Atlanta area, and will definitely go back whenever I can. Everything I've ordered (most recently the HOPanero chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries) has been excellent. The menu is not that of your "typical burger joint"--check it out before you go. I bet you'll find it hard to choose as I did. But they're only open for lunch: 11:00-3:00pm. We went about 2:00pm and encountered no line, but I understand it can get quite busy earlier. You cant go wrong with any of there items. Any bad reviews are just people youll never please, or just dont get it.to bad because HOPS is a one of a kind find! Cuban sandwich was excellent made with barbecue instead of roasted pork, which was a great addition. sweet potato fries were hot and very tasty with a nice spice to them. May be the strangest place I have ever eaten. It would be hard to miss because from the outside it looks nothing like a restaurant. The main dining area looks like a city council meeting room. For entertainment they have an old movie on a big projection screen. I waited too long to eat lunch so I was starving to the point of death (I'm very dramatic). I could not decide on what to eat and told them to surprise me. I do this a lot with different reactions. The chef seemed pumped so I knew I was going to get something good. He gave me the spicy chicken and it did not disappoint. Big piece of fried chicken, green fried tomato, with a spicy sauce. It was awesome. What a gem! We ordered dinner through Hop's kitchen and all I can say is WOW! The meatloaf was just delicious and already sliced, packaged and included heating directions. Hop's kitchen is a crazy good, little restaurant. It's located in a strange little spot in the old Warren Featherbone building(now, Lanier Tech and Ink), but that only adds a fun, out-of-the-way, institutional feeling. The atmosphere is cozy but welcoming. The food is unbelievable. It is haute cuisine in a very unassuming venue. I love the fried green tomato BLT and the truffle fries are awesome. Another favorite of mine is the Bahn mi. The service is friendly and unpretentious, but the menu is more like something you'd find in LA or New York. If you are a foodie, you've got to give this place a try! read more

There's something in the air in Gainesville these days. No, you're not smelling that chicken truck speeding down the road, nor is it the smell of oncoming cancer emanating from the Cargill plant. The aroma you sense, is, dare I say, the smell of a burgeoning culinary scene in The Poultry Capital.One of the newer and perhaps more obscure participants in same is Hops Restaurant, hidden inside the INK complex near 985 and EE Butler. First, the downside, which is limited:Hops is only open for lunch, Mon-Sat. Much of the seating resembles the cafeteria at the middle school of your youth, if you don't eat at a small counter adjacent to the kitchen. This eatery is also a little hard to find, as they could do a better job of signage on the EEButler and Chestnut street sides of the building. However, all one needs to do is park in the large INK parking lot, then walk to the left of the building. Entrance is tucked away in the cut about thirty yards from the parking lot. Now, the upside, which is really good: variety of sandwiches, burgers, and specials. I had a Cuban sandwich. Very unique taste that leaves me thinking the pork was smoked. Perfect Cuban bread, with a unique and savory mustard. I'd say a southern version of an authentic Cuban. Prob best one in town. In looking over the menu, I am sincerely looking forward to and planning several more visits for the very near future. Did I mention they play a good mix of Classic Rock throughout the day? Loud. Which I like. Occasional, impromptu karaoke has been known to break out. The folks here clearly have a different take on traditional lunch counter fare. You could call it "Upscale Lunch Counter" or "Nouveau Snack Bar", but whatever you do, do not sleep on Hops. read more

Had a burger, cuban sandwich, house chips, and fries. The burger was a good size on a small grilled brioche. House chips and hand cut fries were the star of the show, slightly overseasoned. The Cuban was tiny, and had good flavor. Mojo crillo was absent, wrong bread (hoagie bun), and it was made on a panini press instead of a flat grill. 6 oz water cups and cheap catsup packs did not match the food quality. Over $20 for a simple lunch for two is WAY overpriced considering the location and food portions. The chefs name listed outside was amusing in its pomposity. Horrible location and ambiance in the dining area. Way too expensive. Not worth a return visit. read more
