We got there right as the place opened for dinner and were politely greeted. We were seated in a corner booth that was intimate and in a nice little spot for a date, but the table had chunks taken out of it. It was a bit off putting for me not to be able to look around too, but I'm sure if I'd asked they'd have moved us. The table being messed up wasn't a great impression, though. We were given ice water. We ordered the Spring Roll & Tom Kha bowl as appetizers. The spring rolls came in a set of 2 & were the same basic generic spring rolls you'd get at many other restaurants- they were quite good. The soup was tasty and made me feel warm & toasty inside. Masaman Curry is my favorite Thai dish and I try it everywhere I go to eat this kind of food. This one was a winner- the sauce was thicker than I've ever had it anywhere. This dish came with a first on the side for me (avocado) and the coconut milk base curry was sweet and mild with a hint of peanut flavor. In it was mixed potatoes, carrot and cashew nuts; I opted for tofu as well. My only regret is that I wish there had been more. It came with a heaping side of rice. We got the Spicy Basil mild, and the stir fry came our tasting of a grill, mixed with onions, basil leaves, bamboo and sautéed mixed vegetables. I didn't realize it wouldn't have any kind of sauce. I asked about it and they advised it comes dry. I hinted at wanting some sort of sauce on the side to my date but he said we have sauce at home and so this dish is waiting in the fridge to be doctored up and eaten (we were full after sharing the other things). There was Halloween candy at the front of the store. They charged a card fee, which I wish they'd told me about in advance. I didn't use the restroom there so I can't attest to that. The service was adequate and they were very nice, but nothing wowed me. The table being all chunked up was kind of yuck too. Either way I would definitely eat there again- there's not really any other options for Thai in Gainesville except one other spot with hours I never seem to make. Also the Masaman was really great. Found this place when I visited Ulta for my lunch break. I haven't had Thai in Gainesville and the reviews were pretty good so decided to give it a try. I placed an order to go. I ordered the spicy basil noodles with chicken. It's had broccoli, egg and bean sprouts. There are different heat levels for the spiciness. Let me tell you, my mouth was on fire! But in a good way. A lot of times, people can get the slickness but overlook the flavor. They captured both. If you don't want the heat, don't choose the spiciest! The chicken was a little in the dry side but a pretty good dish. I also got the cheese roll. I liked that a lot. It came with some dipping sauce which was also good. Wish I know it had peanuts in it before I tried it. Luckily I was some Benadryl on stand by. I was expecting a little more based on the reviews. My food was good but nothing spectacular. Oh what to do for lunch. The wife and I saw this restaurant and decided to take a chance. We were pleasantly surprised. The lunch menu was reasonably priced. I had the chicken basil noodle. I give it a 9, pretty tasty and full of fresh ingredients including chicken, broccoli and noodles. I ordered it medium hot and it was hot enough for me. The wife had tofu vegetable soup. It was not full of salt, but loaded with vegans tofu. She gave it a 8. She also had the veggie spring rolls. She only gave it a 7 because it was lacking vegetables. This place NEVER answers the phone for pick up orders. If/when you go in person they will ALWAYS tell you they do not have enough help. It is obvious they are too cheap to hire more help and ok with the lack of customer service. It takes 45 mins for a small pick up order. If the food was great, it might be worth the wait, but it is not. read more

My review is likely going to sound similar to the others I read prior to coming in for dinner last night. The service was not good..not even ok really..however the food was top notch. The phone probably rang 100 times while we were here, they did not answer it once so I'm not sure why they didnt just unplug it. They stopped seating people around 7:40 for the night, turning customers away..and we sat at our table for 20 mins before our drink order was taken. But...if you can overlook the lack of customer service, I highly recommend the Spicy Basil noodle dish or the Pad Thai. The Thai Iced Tea was also delicious. The meal was reasonably priced. I've been eating there for 20 yrs, I think, one of my local favorites in Gainesville.

Pretty good, had better Thai food but this is a good alternative close to home. We had the Pad Thai of course. This is my go to to make sure they are authentic. It had the signature red sauce which is so not Thai but the taste wasn't sickeningly sweet which made it ok. Also had the the Masaman curry which was so divine. Delicious treat. The chicken satay with peanut sauce was also great, the cucumber salad was the best. Great combo and palate cleanser. The basil fried rice was delicious according to my husband. The Mango and sweet rice with coconut milk was good, needed more coconut sauce. Rice didn't seem fresh though. You can't go wrong coming to Eat at Thai. I have eaten here with my wife several times. The food is good. Unfortunately, the service leaves a bad taste in the mouth. If you have plans to see a movie after dinner, just go ahead and cancel. You will need to wait to order your drink, then wait again to order. You may need to ask for napkins or forks twice. When the food does come out, dishes come out one at a time over the course of 15 minutes. So either you have to wait while the food goes cold, or one person starts to eat and finishes before others are served. Whenever we have eaten here, there is only one waiter, even on a Saturday night! The phone rings off the hook as well. If they hired two more waiters so the service was decent, I could see myself eating here twice a month. read more

What a rare Gainesville gem! Lovely dinner ambience, friendly and accommodating staff, with a rich flavor profile twist on authentic Thai. We had a large group, and they were swift in seating us, taking orders, and in serving the food. My friend is vegan and they went out of their way to make sure her dish was egg free as well. Personally, I 10/10 recommend both the masaman and green curry with tofu- cannot emphasize enough how delicious and boldly tasting they are! Even better for finish is the hint of sweetness from the mango sticky rice. We had no idea Gainesville had an authentic Thai restaurant, so spread the word! Just for improvement purposes, I would have loved a little bit more spice from the mild choice. If you have second thoughts about your spice tolerance- go with the medium or hot. Also, the soup was not hot when it was served, but still tasted amazing. I would have enjoyed chopsticks instead of assuming utensils as sufficient. Thank you! read more

We lived in Decatur Ga. for many years and so our "gold standard" for Thai food is several excellent restaurants in Decatur. We have not, since moving to Gainesville, found equal quality food - and we keep looking. We had tried Eat at Thai several years ago and found it just average. We went back this week and I will echo what appears to be the consensus of most reviewers - the food is pretty good - not excellent but worth the price. The service is weak. There appeared to be one guy handling host duties, seating people, taking orders and taking payments. There was one kitchen runner bringing out food. From seating to check was reasonably fast - but no one ever checked back on our drinks, if our food was OK, if we wanted desert, etc. It was bare minimal service by folks who I doubt have ever been trained in the hospitality industry. The food here is so good! It's one of my favorite foods to eat in Gainesville. Sometimes we eat in and sometimes we get it to go. Everything I've tried was so fresh and flavorful. I love the ginger shrimp and basil shrimp. My husband loves the mango shrimp. Their mango sauce is so good! The basil noodles are so delicious too! I love their shrimp so much that I haven't really tried any of their other meats. I'll have to try the chicken next time! read more

i was actually impressed with this small location up in the Gainesville area. We stopped in here for a quick lunch and we got just that.. a quick that was pretty good. with my lunch special, i had ordered a 'drunken noodle' spicy and it was cooked quite well (and was quite spicy as well). with the meal, I also got 2 spring rolls. my colleague got a dish called 'slam chicken', which is a fried chicken meal with rice, pineapple, cashews, and veggies. Overall, the meal was quite nice, quick and cooked well. they were quick topping off the water as well. The only issue was that the they stuck us in the corner of the restaurant. when a few other couples came in, they were stuck in other corners of the restaurant. was an interesting setup, but at least we didn't really cross paths. i would definitely recommend, as it is small, cozy yet still good for groups. read more

Came for the food , drove 20 miles one way, wearing a mask as dictated by social convention of our complicated times. Instead of just food got a rant totally free of charge about the "communist media" and the covid hoax. I don't understand why business owners think that is a good idea or best practice to spout off their tin foil hat conspiracy theories to their customers. Or why people who think this way must broadcast it to everyone within earshot. That said, food and flavors were overall good, hence the three stars. I did ask for mild green curry beef and medium ginger sauce on another dish and we felt that the spice was hotter than we had asked. Also the last two dishes main were haphazardly packaged like they had been thrown together (literally) and were leaking. I wasn't about to go back and risk another confrontation with wild-eyed conspiracy lady. The Tom Yum seafood hotpot was the best of the bunch. Absolutely delicious and flavorful. read more
