I didn't want to like this place. Covington and MV are full of these gimmicky chains. Do we really need another restaurant in the same vein as Red Robin or Applebees? To top it off, after living/working in Seattle for several years I've built up quite a snobby disdain for these types of suburbia hangouts. So I must admit I am rather shocked to be writing a 5 star review. But really, this is a fantastic and reliable restaurant staple in the Maple Valley area. The food is quite delicious for the most part, and they have a great selection of cold beers on tap. It's the kind of place that's comfortable to visit regularly. In fact after going at least once a week for the past 6 months, we've made friends with quite a few of the waitstaff. Which brings me to my next point. Other reviewers have mentioned that the service is terrible. Maybe our friendship with the waitstaff is what makes the difference, but every time we have been there we have been treated very well. My girlfriend usually gets the bottomless lemonades and never has a problem getting her glass refilled. Occasionally they can be a bit slow during peak hours, but truthfully they handle the high-volume better than most similar restaurants. As much as this place is perfect for me, I do admit it has a few flaws which might be a turn off to others. For one, the mixed drinks are terrible. Really the only good alcohol they serve here is the beer. I'm tempted to nix a star for that, but having lived in MV for 15 years, this place has made me happier than any other restaurant to grace our area in that time. If you like greasy pressed burgers that by the second bite turn into burger salads, this is the place for you! This place gets very busy on the weekends. TINY waiting area, barely any chairs, constantly having to move out of the way for people to enter/exit restaurant, or to use the restrooms. Large bar, and an outdoor patio area. 3 tables, the rest are all booths. The hosts are friendly and attentive - watched them go help the bussers get tables cleaned multiple times. Our server was frantically running around - it was very busy, and she was working her butt off. She was very nice and friendly - very helpful about menu questions as well. We don't drink alcohol, but the drinks looked very popular as most tables had a few. We both ordered burgers with fries. I got the Deluxe Burger, with the sauce on the side. By itself, like dipping fries in it, the sauce is good. On the burger, not so much. Got a side of BBQ that I added on the burger, much better. I love burgers, so very much. But literally two bites in, I couldn't even pick it up the meat was falling apart so much. The buns were completely soggy from grease too. It basically wasn't even a burger - I attempted to eat the rest with a fork, but anytime I'd try to pick the meat up it would fall apart even more. So I gave up - didn't even eat half. I think my boyfriend got the Morning Burger, and his was the same: falling apart, and super soggy bun. The fries were also extremely greasy. Would like to come back as they had some other items on the menu that intrigued me, but definitely will not be getting any more burgers from here. read more

This place has bomb grilled cheese sandwiches! And Mac and cheese! It's a cheese lover's dream! And other stuff too.. lol

Very average food, with a premium price tag. Essentially this is an overpriced burger joint with a few "gourmet" items to justify the $14 burgers. I went at happy hour and wanted to order a well drink, priced on the table happy hour menu at $3.00, which seemed reasonable. When the waiter came, I said I would have that and he said "oh, that's the old menu, not sure why it's on the table." He then proceeded to bring me the new menu with everything more expensive on it. If Hop Jacks gave a flip about customer service, a good experience, a strong brand identity, and a desire for return business, it would have honored the price stated on the menu on the table when I arrived. It isn't so much the price but the principle in how you treat customers and ensure they leave satisfied. That's how you generate repeat business and word-of-mouth referrals instead of complaints on Yelp. Maybe the owners will read this and hopefully learn something, and train their staff better if they intend to make this place last. read more

My family and I have dined at HopJacks several times and I have noticed a downward spiral of quality. First of all: EVERYTHING IS FRIED!!! My wife, who has dietary issues, ordered her burger without cheese, onions or mayo and asked for avocado. My son ordered the "Juicy Lucy" burger and I ordered the jalapeno poppers, wrapped in bacon and fried. Our order came and my wife's order was totally wrong. There was cheese, onions, mayo, you name it. Can the cook staff not read or was this a server issue? While the poppers sounded good on paper, they were terrible. It was like eating a deep fried rubber band and you couldn't taste the cream cheese or anything. Overall, it was a very disappointing outing. I noticed on the receipt that the server only made a note to add the avocado and didn't note to leave the other items off, so it wasn't the cook's fault. And to add insult to injury, HopJacks now charges a 2% "service fee" on top of your order. I'd rather go up the road to The Maple Valley Grill. read more

I told the manager that I would not pay for the food, as it came 45 minutes late, the orders were wrong and the food was not good. Been to Hops n Drops many times but I've never left a review. I ordered the 9grain burger (sub Swiss with dbl cheddar, cooked medium) and omg it was perfect! Most "comparable" places have an 18year old Cook who thinks medium means less burnt. Hops n Drops delivered a perfect hand pressed, cheesy masterpiece! Real cheddar not American cheese. Loved this restaurant. I was impressed by the great customer service. Multiple people checked on our table numerous times. We enjoyed the goat cheese dip, the Big Juan burger and the Flat Iron Steak Pasta. The goat cheese dip left us craving more! The ice tea here is phenomenal. It's first of all bottomless and comes in many different flavors with fresh fruit thrown in! They were very kid friendly and the kids menu was such a great value! OMG my mouth is too full. I had a brat burger with perfectly grilled onions, healty lettuce and cheese. I didn't want to stop eating. That slather of German mustard brought this burger home. Limited time, aww shucks.. I had all this with fries, crispy, plump and seasoned well. The tall glass of Dark Horse washed it all down- all is well on the world. Note: Try not to eat the brown paper on the tin plate that is use to sop up the grease. Like we're afraid of some geese. LOL did o forget the miraculously cold beer. Chilled to the last drop. We love the happy hour here because, well, it's late night and, unfortunately (or fortunately), our normal dinner hour is 9 pm. Since happy hour starts at 9 it's a no brainer for us. HJ's has great street tacos and, on happy hour, they're an awesome deal. Also, tempura fried zucchini. Omg. Yummy! My husband likes the fish and chips. One day I'll eat a burger, but im hooked on the tacos. I wouldn't recommend the French onion soup -- it was a bit salty. Try their extra cold drinks in actual ice cups! A raspberry lemon drop in an ice cup? So good! This place is also extremely kid friendly. We sometimes order a kids meal, but most often the sizes are large enough that we all share. read more

If I could give half a star I would have I was really disappointed after having a late lunch here and I will never come back. I took my Grandmother out for her birthday lunch and the service was horrible! Then another customers child lost it and threw a heavy mug full of liquid across the isle throwing ice all over our table. The kid had to be 12 so there's no reason why the parents shouldn't have got up and left. They didn't! The people working there didn't even come help clean up the mess. They finally did when I walked over and asked if anyone actually worked in this place. The food is typical garbage (apple-bees Red Robin ish) but the horrendous service and complete lack of care by the employees was disturbing! That mug missed my 3 year olds head by inches! Not only did the employees do nothing... They actually sat there watching! I didn't really feel bad for the kids parents because I had a toddler with me and if he had done ANYTHING to disturb another diner I would have immediately packed him up and left. My son is 3 and somehow managed to act older than the staff and the tween who was throwing heavy objects around! I have already told all my friends and family NOT to waste their time or money giving this place a chance. I was so excited to have another choice for dining in Maple Valley. I have tried Hop Jacks many times before writing this review. I really feel that it is a 21/2, but since that is not an option I give it a 3. The have a good bar. The drinks are great. I especially like the ones served in the ice glasses. It is also nice to have a place for happy hour. The food is just okay and that should be worth a rating of a three, but the price is ridiclous for what you get. There was nothing special in the dishes I have eaten. The fish tacos are available grilled or fried and that is a bonus to have that option, but again, they are nothing special. For the price you pay for the "experience", the ambiance is more like a nice diner. It is an open area. It does have a lot of booths, but they have no privacy. Over all, I was hoping for something a little more tasty with better ambiance. I will continue to eat at Hop Jacks, but it is good to know what you are getting. read more

I have been to the Bonney Lake location quite a few times and it has always been good. This place however needs some help! I really was excited to have a new place close to home, but was fairly disappointed in the quality of the food. The service was good, our waitress was very nice, prompt and helpful - the only reason for the 2 star rating. The food on the other hand was a total downer. I ordered the Big Juan Burger which is supposed to be a burger stuffed inside a grilled cheese sandwich. to quote the menu - it's big...really big! ok, first off, my idea of a grilled cheese sandwich must vary greatly from theirs. I picture buttered grilled bread filled with gooey MELTED cheese. their take - texas toast from the freezer section with some cheese sprinkled inside. Second - when bacon is the 2nd ingredient listed for your burger, it is good to have more than 1 piece on top. To finish it off, it was all served nice and lukewarm (like I said cheese should be melted!) and the Big...Really Big claim, it was no bigger than any of the other burgers I saw. I decided to have the side salad instead of the fries. Swing and a miss! The lettuce was so wet that it have formed a nice ball in the bottom of the bowl and watered my blue cheese dressing down to a vinaigrette consistency. I should have had the fries, which were good (My mother-in-law had those) I will be willing to try them again sometime in the future, but sadly (and it pains me to say this) I could have gone to Red Robin and gotten a much better burger for less money with bottomless fries. read more

The best Happy Hour menu I have seen anywhere. Just order 3,4, or 5 items for a great shared meal for two. Service has always been excellent. And food quality and tastes great. I make multiple modifications for my dietary preferences and the wait staff is able to enter those directly into their ordering devices right at the table for good accuracy. Although, one mistake was made at a nearby table- fish n chips instead of fish tacos but they were able to correct that quickly. Besides being able to change your flavors of your lemonade on each bottomless refill, our server also offered us to-go cups before we left! I had ordered an Arnold Palmer and for my to go cup she even put more lemonade in my to go cup before bringing it to the table since my previous refill I had opted for just iced tea. I really like this place, everyone was super friendly and service was fast. I think it's so cool that some of the drinks are severed in a ice cup. The food I order was amazing. I got the BBQ pull pork sandwich with fresh chips on the side.The meat wasn't dry and the amount of BBQ sauce they out on the sandwich was prefect. Hop Jack's is a favorite place for us to go. Maple Valley needed a place like this! We like to go when the weather is nice and we can sit outside. However, on a rainy Seattle day, the bar is a close second. They have an extensive menu and a great beer and alcohol selection. The cocktails in the ice glasses are exceptionally fun. The one DO NOT MISS item is the home made potato chips with garlic ranch dipping sauce. Trust me on this. This is a general review, because I have been so many times. Sometimes the service is better than others, but it's usually really friendly. My favorite server is Mac, who is quick with menu suggestions and is just a fun server. I think that sometimes they are understaffed (especially on warmer days), and that can lead to long wait times and flustered servers. We had one experience where there was a mix up with our ticket, and instead of helping out our server, the manager was walking around just "checking in" with tables. It was clear the server was in the weeds. It would have been nice to see management support in that situation. Overall, I would recommend Hop Jack's to anyone who wanted good food, good drinks, and a nice, laid back atmosphere. read more

We have gone to Hop and Drops numerous times-and have loved their potatoe chip nachos. But not yesterday-they looked slopped together and the chips were soggy. And they lost our simple ice tea order.Grant it-the Pandemic affected all of us-and I am sure it must be overwhelming to finally be at full capacity- but to serve food that is undireable to consume is unfair to the consumers. For starters, the drinks here are fantastic. Every one that I have had was great. I have been here a few times with my infant son and my husband and every time the staff has been incredibly patient, courteous, and attentive. The food is what you'd expect of typical bar food; nothing that I'd absolutely crave and need to have, but delicious and satisfying when you're looking for a meal away from home that doesn't break the bank. Some of the highlights: Buffalo chicken flatbread - crispy deliciousness! I really liked this place. We showed up after mountain biking wearing full cold weather gear and had no looks sitting at the bar. Happy hour so we had the boneless hot wings an they were really good.
