Their waffle cone is to die for and the smell is mind blowing! I got the cotton candy one and it did not taste like anything . Id say more vanilla but not even vanilla. Quite frustrating. 4 stars for the service and waffle cone

This is a funky little ice cream shop in downtown! The ice cream is good and they have some nice options. Good customer service but not hospitality. The staff could've had more personality and smile. We went and there was no where else in there. So they could've been a bit friendlier and smiled more. Overall experience was good.

Such a unique place with honestly the best ice cream I've ever tried! I got the turtle nachos (best bang for your buck btw) and I swapped out flavors so I got the chocolate, pistachio, and midnight flavors. Staff was very kind and the building itself was very well maintained and kept ties to its original 1881 feel.

Not too far from Custer State Park! AND Black Hills Burger & Bun!

The ice cream was actually crazy. I had the apple cherry sherbet it was. Service was fine. Nice places to eat inside and outside.

This ice cream is amazing. It's homemade and very reasonably priced. You've got to stop here. Such a treat.

Staff were friendly and quick. Note for queer safety: this business didn't have any explicit pride flags but also didn't have decor that suggests it wouldn't be welcoming. There is only one bathroom which is all-gender. I was not the only visibly queer person there the day I went. We chose this one and unfortunately it didn't do much to make us feel comfortable. Several menus we saw online indicated breakfast served until 3, which I love but unfortunately when we got in, the physical menus said breakfast served until noon. Not the worst thing ever but it was a let down right away. With our orders my husband chose a side he thought sounded great but they were out of the jumbo mushroom side. Again, not a big deal but maybe just note that they may not have what you're looking for there. I ordered my sandwich with sauce on the side and felt frustrated when it came on the sandwich. I'm always willing to try a sauce, but the waitress told us she had noticed the sauce incorrectly added to the sandwich and the kitchen told her they were sure I would enjoy it. Personally I didn't appreciate the kitchen staff saying such a thing and in the end I avoided the sauce all together. I appreciated that the kitchen was able to remake my sandwich in the end but still felt frustrated. The waitress brought us a couple prepackaged donuts to apologize, which was very thoughtful. The last problem was actually the menu again. At the beginning I took a photo to upload here, since I was upset about the incorrect menu. I saw that our receipt prices were higher than the menu. When I brought this to their attention they responded that any restaurant in the area would be like theirs-higher prices due to tariffs affecting the area in the last year. In the end, I would not recommend this place to visitors.

Fortunately it moved fairly quickly. Service was efficient and friendly. The decor is pleasant, kind of a purple Victorian farm house feel. I got a slice of the apple pie and the peanut butter pie to go. The apple pie was awesome! Redolent of cinnamon, the filling was fully cooked, full of soft apple-y goodness. The crust was flaky and sweet and might have have sugar and cinnamon baked in the top crust. Delicious! The peanut butter pie was also great. A soft, light peanut butter filling in a flaky crust. Yummy! The apple pie was the star of the show for me this visit. I can't speak to their ice cream or other offerings. But it looks like they offer lots of savory items as well as coffee drinks. The pie here is truly delicious! My friend did not steer me wrong!

Fresh oysters for breakfast...in South Dakota? Yes, please!…read more My wife and I stumbled upon this gem on a recent trip through the Black Hills. A note about the restaurant from their website: Erik and Camillia opened Hjem A.M. in 2022 with one goal in mind: bring amazing breakfast food to the Black Hills. The food's focus is seasonality and is inspired by Scandinavian/American flavors. "Hjem" means home in Danish. Camillia and Erik found their home in Custer and want to be your home in the morning. Everything was divine. We wanted to sample the menu so we ordered "The Bob" (pancakes with lemon cream and lingonberry), Lobster eggs Benedict which they were out of unfortunately so the gave us some oysters as an apology. Their quiche of the day was a Mexican inspired elote style with a flaky crust and delightful crema, topped with some pickled onions. Their hollandaise was likely the best I've ever had. The accompanying potatoes and hash browns were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Ashly ordered a sausage patty that included a few chili flakes to wake up the tastebuds. I'd mentioned Ashly's birthday and they brought out a birthday treat - rice pudding topped with dried apricots and granola. And a candle on the side. We certainly felt at home at this lovely place. It had a charming decor and the service was top notch. Be sure to stop by on your next trip to the Black Hills.
