Good Breakfast Options [Hot Springs SD] We searched Yelp for a coffee shop before heading to Wind Cave National Park. We found this place which was only about 7 miles away from the park. It was very spacious inside with plenty of table seating and some comfy arm chairs and accent chairs. Cute interior. Outside had patio seating too. I ordered a Bagel Sandwich w/ egg and bacon and garlic herb cream cheese and wow! it was delicious... the freshly toasted bagel with fried egg and bacon was good but with the garlic herb cream cheese shmear it tasted fantastic. They got my hubby's order wrong. He wanted Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich w/ sausage but they gave him bacon instead. The ham and Swiss breakfast croissant was tasty. $20 for two coffees and one sandwich seems pricey, but I'd rather give the money to a local business like this than to Starbucks. We were staying nearby but wanted more than just a cheap hotel breakfast AND wanted some good coffee, so we tried here. One of the best food stops on our vacation. FOOD & DRINK: Had a variety of drinks, all of them good; both my wife and I got dirty chai lattes, and they were really nice. For food we had a variety of breakfast sandwiches and burrito, and it was all top notch. SERVICE: Big smiles and friendliness from the cashier to the folks who made or delivered our food and drink. AMBIANCE: Feels new, but also well loved. Lots of local art for sale on the walls. Quite a crowd for a Sunday morning. The parking in front of the store was full, but we were able to find something on the street. NET-NET: My only regret is that it's unlikely we'll be in Hot Springs again any time soon. If we are, though, I've tagged this place for a definite re-visit (and bought a sticker to remember it by). read more

What a fun esthetic and clever name for a coffee shop in the amazing town of Hot Springs! The name captured our attention when we first came into town and made it a point to come to town from our Cold Brook Campsite to try before our adventures. I came in at 1:05 PM on a Saturday and tried to order two BLT's. Except the kitchen was already closed. On a Saturday. During the beginning of tourist season. On a beautiful day. DURING LUNCHTIME! Why do you guys hate money? I try to stay local wherever I go but had to go to Dairy Queen because this place can't keep its kitchen open until their closing time of 1:30 pm. Looked for a place to eat before entering Wind Cave National Park and this was great in terms of location (12 min drive from Wind Cave). Staff were nice but there was a miscommunication in what I ordered. I know I had made 3 orders of their bison chili and we only got 1. Definitely an error in both sides, as I should have noticed my total was $24 less than what it should have been. The big annoyance with this was that they just take so long to complete orders (not many people in the place either) that we spent so much time waiting for the 2 additional chilis we ordered after we discovered the error. I know they're not making this chili on the spot so I don't know why it takes 25-35 min for bowls of soup? What we ordered: Cinnamon Roll - this was actually really good. It came out quickly which was great since everything else came out so late. Tuna Avocado Panini - didn't know you could possibly make such a tasteless sandwich. There was zero flavor which was such a disappointment. Roasted bell peppers and wilted spinach were also very out of place on this sandwich. It could definitely have benefited from some kind of sauce. Bison Chili - so this *could* have been a winner. Flavor was good, however, a majority of my soup was cold (like just defrosted cold). As I ate through the bowl, I discovered varying temperatures of soup: cold, lukewarm, and hot. Given that they took so long to complete the order, I was surprised that the soup still wasn't fully heated up. We were just eager to get out of there and on to Wind Cave that I didn't want to go up and ask them to heat up the rest of it. Cornbread was ok but not memorable. read more

Let me explain why this is four stars instead of 5, and we kept going back here. ‍ First visit we went for lunch. I had a decent sandwich on gluten-free bread. The bread is GREAT! Hubs had their soup special. Hubs LOVES food, so for him to not finish something means it wasn't up to par... or he's just really full. In this case, the chicken beer cheese soup was OK. Not great. Sorta good. Mostly just OK. However, it was a weekly special, so we decided to come back for breakfast (which it seems they're more known for anyway). I had gluten-free french toast. O.M.G. It's so good I've had it twice. I also had a blackberry vanilla latte. I brought most of it home and added my own blackberry/vanilla syrup to it... because it was mostly "coffee" and I don't really like coffee, so... ‍ Hubs has fallen in love with one of their Summer specials, some iced chocolate foam delight drink thing. Yeah, it's delicious. Our next time there I had the avocado toast on gluten-free bread. OK so that's a WINNER. Keep in mind I hardly ever get to have bread, especially eating out! So I have very low expectations and am quite easily pleased. I'm sure we'll be eating here again. We both love how they feature local artists around the eating area, have outdoor eating with this huge bay door that can open on really nice weather days, and the teal accent walls just happen to be my favorite color. Combine that with the smiles on employees' faces, the fairly fast service (for making GF food separately, this is always a win!) and the gluten-free COOKIES... and yeah, it's become one of my favorite coffee shop/breakfast/lunch places. Rolled up at about 9:30 am on a Sunday. Seemed mildly busy. Someone greeted us and took our order right away. Ordered 2 iced caramel macchiato's and a sausage breakfast bagel. We placed our order to-go but there are plenty of tables to eat in. Waited for about 12 minutes for the order to come out. Restrooms were both clean and tidy. Didn't care for the coffee. Tasted like caramel milk. No coffee flavor. Bagel sandwich was made in house and was hot and fresh. read more

Adorable little coffee shop in downtown Hot Springs! By the time we got there at 11:00, they were out of espresso and cornbread. We ordered the Buffalo Chili and it came with a slice of homemade bread. We all had fresh brewed coffee, mine with a shot of hazelnut and it was delish! Stopped by for a chili to go. Added a chocolate cake to go with it. Took my money. Put the chocolate cake in a giant single use plastic container. Several minutes went by and I asked it I could get the bowl of chili to go and was told "unfortunately no" since orders are filled as taken, even if it takes 20 minutes to cook an order that is in front of a to-go order that is ready to fill. I walked out and let them keep the money--place sucks! Anyway, they use enough plastic in there to increase the price of crude oil. read more

Stopped here for lunch during a day trip to Wind Cave NP. It was a blustery day and I had my mind set on the bison chili. Imagine my dismay when at close to noon, they still hadn't made the chili yet? Nothing else on the menu sounded that great, pretty average sandwich selection. Opted for the Buffalo chicken wrap, and it was fine, just not what I wanted. The specials board was also listed for March (it's May) and had not been updated. The service was friendly, but I'd probably just wander on over to a different joint if in the area again. Heads up, also looks like they are moving across the street in the future? Got a drip brew coffee there for the first time today and it was horrid. Took a few sips outside and poured out the rest. A person would get better coffee at any gas station. We found this little gem by chance. If you happen to visit South Dakota and travel through Hot Springs then I highly recommend the Wandering Bison Coffee shop. The coffee is fantastic. The breakfast is prepared fresh and is a sufficient selection to get you going on the surrounding adventures. Service was not as good as it could have been but maybe she was new and something important was going on her phone. Anyways stop here, it's worth it. read more

Went to the Grand Opening today and enjoyed a fantastic Carmel Macchiato with Cottonwood coffee beans... Outstanding as the coffee was smooth and crafted perfectly. Also have two different panini's and they were also very tasty and individual made with lots of love... Talked with one of the owners David and he was interested in our thoughts.. and excited to bring a needed establishment into Hot Spring... The minor kinks will be worked out and I can only imagine going forward they will improve and exceed their own expectations... fantastic first day and The happiest of Anniversary to the owners.. will be making this my go to for coffee, breakfast, lunch, pastries and just a great place to go enjoy and relax! read more

I'm so disappointed with their customer service. I ordered a iced oatmilk latte, it tasted sour and I went back later showing them that I had barley touched it and explained how sour it tasted (I tried making myself drink it before going back). It wasn't cheap, $8 for a latte. I asked if I could get a replacement because the drink was not drinkable and they said no! That they aren't able to do so. I get it, if someone came by another day, maybe without a drink or proof of purchase but I had both and i definitely was not trying to scam them. I would've come back but this experience makes me want to support other businesses. Honestly Springs Coffee has better tasting coffee and service. A nice venue with plenty of seating and WiFi. The Chaim latte is incredible and so is the breakfast burrito. Pretty affordably priced for the area. I'm dinging this place a star because the staff seemed to not care less if I was giving them business and during a pandemic nobody was wearing gloves or a mask. read more
