    Inaccurate Restaurant Hours

Extremely disappointed. Drove over 2 hours to try this restaurant, only to find it closed despite their hours being listed as open online, over the phone, and on the signage outside. As we were leaving, another couple showed up and had the same experience. I understand unexpected closures happen, but at least update your hours or post a notice so people don't waste hours driving out there.

Omg! Okay wait. I never made it to the first horn Bbq place sorry, but [[HIGHLIGHT]]I made it to this new spot with vibes unmatched![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I met the bartender walking in downtown and she told me to come bye. Well it was popping and my catfish plate was fire! They ran outta greens, my fish was so crunchy and hot that I had to keep eating and burn my mouth, this mac n cheese was smoked or I wanted it to be but it was GOOD! Anyway go try and enjoy. I'm going this week again.

I stopped in because I was craving some brisket. I ended up ordering that and their cornbread to go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First off, very cool interior! I loved it. I also dug the various photos on the walls. Who doesn't like a Rick James hanging over the bar, ha, ha...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My food was excellent. The brisket had a nice crust and was very moist. The cornbread was dangerously good. It was sitting in a honey sauce. If I wasn't watching my waistline I'd be heading there right now.

Horn BBQ quality is not what it used to be. I got here 30 minutes after opening and there were items not available already such as Potato Salad, Beef Ribs, and Cornbread, some staples of BBQ. There was 1 person bartending, serving, and taking payments, felt bad for 1 person to be doing everything in the front. I am giving a lower rating for the food on this updated review. Ordered the brisket, pork ribs, hot links, pulled pork, mac & cheese, pit beans, slaw, and texas bread. The brisket was so tough and dry, would not order the brisket here again since this happened twice in a row! Love my briskets, but not when it's so dry and definitely needed way more salt. Spare ribs were tasty and well seasoned, Horn bbq has great pork ribs! The hot links were flavorful and juicy, another favorite at horn bbq. The pulled pork was soft and tasty, but had so much fat this visit. The pit beans are great, I think they might be cooking it in their bbq sauce so it pairs well with the meat. The mac and cheese are pretty basic and standard.

Sorry but the food was not good this go around .The Mac and Cheese had no flavor. The meat was dry and the beans were not cooked all away through. The collard greens were tasty though. The vanilla milkshake was just milk. No thickness. We did not finish it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The spot is very nice and stylish. Great look. Nice bar step up and great colors. Great mural[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Service is ok. You have to pick up your own food. I would think for the amount you're paying someone would bring your food to you. But I guess I am just being too La La Land. Who knows. Sorry....

The restaurant has a nice bar well stalked. The bartender was very knowledgeable and provided the history of Oakland. Ribs, Links, Greens, mini corn bread, and slaw

Pictured: Ribs, links, greens & slaw. We came today (Oakland) (3/7/26) around 1 p.m. and were seated quickly, only to be told right away that they were out of mac and cheese and brisket. What you see in the picture is literally all they had left. For $61, we got dried-out ribs, dehydrated links, and two tiny corn muffins; add insult to injury the food was cold. The greens were the only thing worth eating. We boxed the food up and ended up throwing it away. Really disappointing overall. A wasted gift card and a wasted drive for dry

I've been wanting to try Horn BBQ for the longest time...FINALLY Ambiance: great music playing. Love the pic of the bull's head on the wall. Service: you order you food from the kiosk. Kitchen staff calls out your name when your order is ready Food: the hype is real. The brisket is very tender n moist. Great peppery bark. The cuts I received had a small sliver of fat...perfection! The sausage is a bit on the spicy side...if you don't care for spicy, choose another option...chicken, pulled pork or pork ribs If you're in the Old Oakland area....stop by and give them a try

My husband and I drive from Pittsburg here. They were out of brisket. The pulled pork sandwich was half fat half meat. The banana pudding no cookies in it,itwas like soup when my husband got to the car with our food. They gave him 5 ribs one hot link.He ordered a side of beans , greens and potato salad. This place was over priced. Were very disappointed. The chicken was sold out as well. Come to find out they already charged my husbands card then told him stuff was sold out.Im not sure why you'd charge before looking to see if you have any left to sell.

Pretty aesthetic! There is bar seating and table seating for table seating, you order at the kiosk, choose a table, and then pick up your food when your name is called. The staff was available as needed though not anything outstanding, except a gentleman man in the kitchen was very welcoming and came and checked on how we liked the food later which I appreciated. Food was delicious! I particularly liked granny's potatoes. They are like mashed potatoes with pieces, well seasoned with cheese. The brisket was also very well done. The mac n cheese was good, but I prefer my mac n cheese baked a bit more. I knocked off a star because I tried to come here once before and google said they closed at 10pm, their voicemail said 9pm, but when I got there they closed at 8pm and I arrived at 8:15pm which was very frustrating. Also when I mentioned it to someone working there he wasn't at all apologetic. Looks like they have updated the times now. They also do happy hour! I'll likely be back.

Not sure if it's supposed to be Texas BBQ or something else. Tried to try everything unfortunately ran out of sausage/links. Chickens were salty. Brisket was too dry and burnt despite requested for juicy parts in order. Ribs were dry and cold. Banana pudding was too sweet and loose. Beef chili was too sweet. Service is very efficient with digital ordering with customer pickup. Least interaction with waiters. Yet food is expensive. It's a clean place though with flat wide entry for accessibility. Parking might be challenging in downtown Oakland with paid street parking a paid parking lot next to it. Not excited and sure if I go back.

** 3.5 - 4 stars ** First time visiting Horn Barbecue and sadly, missed the opportunity dining at their original location on Mandela Parkway in West Oakland. Now located in Old Oakland with a nice atmosphere, full bar and friendly gentleman working the bar, dropping off water and clearing our table. Place your order at the kiosk makes it simple: option of meats, amount, sides and drinks using your credit card. If paying cash, staff can take your order. MEATS :: 1/2lb BRISKET - thicker slice, juicy and tender. The bark was flavorful the first bite or 2 but was a bit salty and unevenly seasoned. The exterior was charred (not in a good way), dry and chewy like beef jerky. ** 3 - 3.5 star** :: 1/2 lb RIBS - 3-4 ribs from the shorter end. Tender, flavorful with a nice lacquer of sauce ** 4 stars ** SIDES: **4 stars ** :: CORNBREAD - delicious, sweet and savory incorporated with corn and drizzled with honey - I have to say one of the best I've had at any bbq place :: COLLARED GREENS - perfectly cooked and still retained its shape and not mushy. Flavorful :: MAC N CHEESE - shells with Velveeta cheese - ** 3 stars ** Overall, food was okay to good this first visit. Really enjoyed the side of pickled items Friends feedback: :: BEEF BRISKET SANDWICH - both enjoyed the first few bites but mentioned it was salty, overly sauced and too sweet. - 3.5 stars Pricing a little higher than like bbq spots and would return for the ribs, cornbread and collard greens and try other items. 2 meats with a side and cornbread will set you back $45 not Inc tip with leftovers for another meal.

1/2 lb Brisket, pulled pork, and coleslaw. Everything was delicious, surprisingly the pulled pork was my favorite!

As of July 2026 is Horn BBQ in Oakland closed down?

Who knows. Sometimes it's open and sometimes it isn't. He seems to be opening locations and other places and the focus is not on Oakland. This is too bad because they really do have good barbecue. However, I've come by there too often to find that…

    Is there a current menu?

    The oakland location is closed

Are there any veggie mains? I'm going with family this weekend that are vegetarians and wondering if they should plan to eat separately.

There's two salads, pretzel sticks, brussel sprouts. But no veggie mains when I went. Fish sandwich if there's any pescatarians

The mustard provided some nice balance to the richness of the proteins. Additionally, we ordered a little gem salad which was solid. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but good. For my main, I went with the chicken thigh. The thigh was cooked to perfection with an excellent crust and rich sauce surrounding it. The meat was tender and flavorful. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

I'm sure there are other good things here but I keep just getting the cheese steak. The picture…read moredoesn't do it justice. It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

I had a whole conversation with the server about my nails (little things like this make the experience more personal). My friends and I got cheese fries, regular fries, a veggie burger, a regular cheeseburger, and a hotdog. Safe to say, everything was devoured and we even went back for seconds. I think my favorite option is getting a vanilla soft serve cone for later. You basically pre-order it, then pick it up whenever you're done with your food so you don't have to rush to finish your meal. I had so much fun here and the environment was super friendly. Feels like real community at Lovely's. p.s. there's street parking or lots available in the area for cheap!

Never been to a fish and chips place that didn't have vinegar. It's just not right! They were tasty, but I had to take them home to eat them the way I like them and I had already bought a Coke that I couldn't take with me because they have no to go cups. So those two things basically spoiled the meal. Service is good if they're not busy, but I have stood on line for over an hour when they were really busy.

So I've been driving by this place since the '80's when it was a Hofbrau. Today's my first visit!…read more I love it. As others mention, it's completely different than it looks from the outside. Modern, airy, and open concept. Their Honors West Coast IPA is excellent. I would come back just for this. I ordered a lettuce wrapped The Dude burger with cheddar and mushroom. Yum! Nice presentation as well. Only disappointment is that they no longer have a parking lot :( What a great place to just hang out and chill. I'll definitely be back. Okay, I'm still here, ha, ha, ha... I had to try their Smoke and Honey cocktail. Mezcal and laphroig islay scotch plus lillet blanch!

The inside has a nice modern look and there is a lounge to the side open for happy hour. We sat in there which has its own bar. It is very cozy. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and I ordered the French Onion soup with a bacon grilled cheese. Our waiter started off well but when he came to get our orders he didn't write anything down and I had to repeat myself twice. The first time he was facing my husband, the second he came to my side and I pointed at the menu while slowly repeating my order. I simply wanted a grilled cheese with bacon added no avocado as it is advertised as an add on, on the menu. As he walked away a part of me knew my order was going to be messed up. Low and behold my soup arrives with a side of bacon. I then explained again what I ordered. A few moments pass and he comes back and then my husband explains what I wanted. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but it just didn't seem to register. I truly did not think asking for soup & bacon grilled cheese would be so difficult. By this time my husband had already received his salad which was delicious. Finally, he comes back with my soup, a grilled cheese and the bacon ON THE SIDE. If I ordered a bacon grilled cheese why would you give me like this? Why not make my grilled cheese and add the bacon inside? To make matters worse the French onion soup was so bland not even salt could save it. It tasted like a nothingness broth. The grilled cheese was better once I made it myself. The waiter never came back to check on us. The manager hovered by for a while but we had to even flag him down for the check. I left hungry and got a meal at the airport. Would not recommend. If you can't remember an order as a waiter please just write it down.

I'm not even kidding. Everything sounded great. The space is really cool as well inside with lots of that local art you know and love in the Oakland area. I ordered a margarita to start. Yum! For apps, we ordered the guac and chips alongside the fried calamari. I partook in the guac and chips, fresh and delish. Calamari was not gfree. For my main entree I split a beet salad with one of my colleagues, I can't say no to a beet salad. Then I ordered the mussels...which were so good. I loved the aioli on the top of the fries. I also had a bite of my colleagues coleslaw...and I will say it was the best non mayo based coleslaw I've ever had! Not kidding! It has red onion, green pepper, and cilantro. For dessert since it's always a must on a biz trip, we ordered crème brûlée and a sorbet. The brulee was as expected and perfect to end the night. Will definitely be back!
