Wow the food here is amazing, if you're wondering if you should go, just do it. I'm not even a big bbq person but it's so good I finished every plate. My husband wanted to order food from here to take home for his birthday. We came on a Wednesday a little after 4:30 PM and there were less than 5 people in line. It went quick but we can see how there can be a line on weekends since there's only one person cutting meat in the back. The food is phenomenal though and worth the wait (again coming from someone who doesn't eat a lot of bbq or meat). The sides are my favorite. They are so good. We got every single one :). This is one of the best and most interesting restaurants we have been to! Whoever thought of Indonesian and Texas barbecue fusion? Well they do an excellent job on both cuisines and blending it together. Everything is nicely paired and delicious too! Hubby had the Dino ribs which were HUGE, meaty and juicy! I had the Rendang (Indonesian), a side of lumpia and a dumpling special. Everything was an explosion of flavors! We were a significantly impressed and will be back. Our friends warned us that the lines can get really long but we went around 2:30 and it was not bad at all. But the problem with going too late is that they run out of some of the more popular foods. My husband heard about Fikscue after watching Check, Please! so of course we stopped by for an early dinner. Apparently they serve Texas style BBQ and Indonesian fusion dishes, which I thought was very unique. We walked through a small courtyard before entering the restaurant. The employees were extremely busy, and although we were ready, it took them a long time before we could place our order at the register. They ran out of Dino Beef Ribs and Beef Back Ribs, so we ordered the smoked brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and a side of fries. I've been meaning to try it for a while, I just don't get around to Alameda that often. The hours are also odd; they are open only 3 days, and not even the whole day. The venue itself is tiny, more like a hole in the wall. They have some counter seating inside and there is an area right outside where one can eat. Good news is they are located next to Alameda Brewing, where one can dine in if you grab a beer. Parking can be challenging, so good luck with that. I also overheard the young lassie at the register say Saturdays are crazy and usually much busier than Sundays. The man at the cash register was friendly and charming. We ordered Dino ribs, nasi goreng, brisket, and beef cheeks. It was pricey but I was already prepared for that before coming in. I really liked both of the bbq sauces offered. The darker one had a slight curry flavor and the other was a sweet mustard base and that was my favorite. Inside is fairly small with some bar stool seating and there's also tables outside. The brewery next door lets you eat inside if you order drinks/beer from them. They had a board outside that they updated with the amount of each item left which was nice. The Dino rib was our favorite. Flavor was so good, tender, juicy, and fall off the bone, and portion was huge. Ours was 1.25lbs. The brisket was really delicious too. Good flavor and tender but enjoyed the rib more. There was 1 type of BBQ sauce available and was really great but meat also didn't need it. The Rendang plate was filling and well balanced. Brisket is the tell all and if it's cooked long enough the fat and meat basically meld together. And such was this We also had the Dino rib and beef cheeks. The rib was amazing, huge, maybe a little salty. And the beef cheek was good - I expected it to be more melt in mouth so prob would go back for that. One side of my family is from Indonesia, so I was excited to see how they combined the different flavors. We ordered a Dino Beef Rib, a pound of Brisket, 1/2 pound of Beef Back Ribs, a Jalapeño cheese sausage, and the Rujak Slaw and Nasi Goreng fried rice as sides. The Dino rib was fall off the bone tender and had a really well seasoned spice rub. I would definitely recommend getting the Dino rib over the beef back ribs if you can because it was much more tender. The brisket was a mix, with some fatty and lean pieces. It was tender, but some pieces were on the dryer side. It went well with the bbq sauce and sweet mustard. The sausage was bursting with juiciness and flavor, and had a nice crunchy wrapper. I really liked the pineapple in the rujak slaw because the sweetness helped cut through the richness of the meat. I was a little disappointed by the nasi goreng because it didn't taste like what I was used to. It had more of a typical fried rice spring roll flavor compared to the more umami flavors (kecap manis, shrimp paste) I was expecting from the typical nasa goreng. Have been to Fikscue a few times and wanted to share how good the food is. From Texas Brisket to the Indonesian Balado plate of fried egg, garlic chips, fried potato, and AMAZING Curry Kale. The folx who work there are wonderful, providing suggestions, checking to see how the food was, etc. The space is mostly to order and wait for orders but it is directly next to Alameda Brewery and Monkey King, so the vibes are chill with plenty of places to sit and relax while eating yummy food. Fikscue Craft BBQ is exactly the kind of place you plan a trip around and are willing to arrive early just to make sure you get a seat. We've been more than once, and every time we show up at least an hour before it opens at noon. Trust me--if you come later, there's a real chance you'll miss out on the best dishes. First, the restaurant itself deserves a mention. Fikscue isn't your average American BBQ joint. It blends traditional Texas-style slow-smoked BBQ with Indonesian flavors in a way that really stands out. This isn't one of those places that just slaps on a sauce and calls it "creative." Every element--from spices to seasoning to flavor balance--feels thoughtfully crafted. In the Bay Area, that kind of bold, distinctive BBQ is rare, and for that reason, I'd say this is one of the most recognizable and worth-the-trip BBQ spots in the Bay Area. This is not a place you "stop by if you're nearby"; it's worth waking up early and lining up for. We've tried almost every item on the menu, and everything is consistently solid. The meats are expertly smoked, the cooking is precise, and the flavors hit just right. There's barely a weak spot, and you can tell these people really know their BBQ. If I had to pick one must-order, it's the Dino Ribs--no question. You can't miss them. The portion is massive, the smoke flavor is rich, and the meat is juicy and tender enough to pull off the bone effortlessly. It's flavorful without being greasy, and the meat's natural taste really shines through. This is why I strongly recommend arriving at least 30-60 minutes before opening--the Dino Ribs sell out fast, and if you come late, they're probably gone. Other meats are just as good. The brisket and pork are perfectly cooked, with seasoning that enhances rather than overpowers. Even the sides aren't just filler--they complement the smoky meats nicely without stealing the spotlight. If I had to critique one thing, it would be the sausage. It's not bad, but compared to the rest of the menu, it's pretty ordinary and lacks a memorable punch. In a menu this strong, the sausage just doesn't stand out. Overall, Fikscue Craft BBQ is one of those rare places where the time you put in waiting is completely worth it. If you love BBQ or are willing to wake up early to snag truly excellent smoked meat, this is a spot you'll come back to again and again. I've been dying for some good bbq and was finally able to give this place a try because the line is usually so long! We ordered several different items for my fam so we could get a good feel for the overall offerings. Service was fast and friendly. We chose the dino ribs, beef back ribs, chicken, sausage, brisket, macaroni, lumpia, fries, and banana pudding. I think my expectations were really high because of all the hype around this place. For the price of the food, I was expecting a ton of flavor and perfect juiciness/texture in all items. It was okay... but nothing that really blew my mind. The sausage and banana pudding were the two stars of the meal, for sure- they had distinctly memorable flavors that my fam and I really enjoyed those. The rest of the food was surprisingly on the bland side. It all looked great,.. the pics give the impression of amazing food, right???... but the flavor didn't really deliver for me at all. The macaroni reminded me of Hamburger Helper from my childhood. The sauces were good, but I don't want to rely on sauces for flavor when I just got some very expensive meat- and was hoping for the salt, fat, acid, and heat from the meat spices. The chicken was dry, too, so we didn't even finish it. I was pretty bummed out and guess I'll have to continue my search for amazing bbq. Overall, I give this bbq joint 3 stars. I am stuffed! If you're in Alameda and even thinking about BBQ, run--don't walk--to Fikscue! This Indonesian-American BBQ spot delivers some of the most unique and exquisitely delicious BBQ I've ever had. We came on a weekend and ordered a feast: brisket, beef back rib, smoked fried chicken leg, and the rendang plate (complete with a perfect fried egg). Every meat dish was phenomenal--fall-off-the-bone tender, juicy, and packed with a deep and savory flavor. It is def the kind of BBQ that melts in your mouth and leaves you speechless. The sides were just as thoughtful and flavorful. The nasi goreng had great texture and spice, the rojak slaw added crunch and tang, and the sauerkraut with onions and peppers helped cleanse the palate between bites. And don't skip the chendol--sweet, refreshing, and the perfect way to end the meal. We also had the soda gembira with coco pandan flavor, which was nostalgic and fun. We arrived at 12:21pm and got our food at 1:00pm--definitely a wait, but absolutely worth it!! They update the menu in real time so you know what's still available, but when we went, there was more than enough for everyone to try what they wanted. Pro tip: bring friends! The portions are huge and perfect for sharing. I left completely stuffed and totally in love. I heard the weekday menu differs from the weekend, so I'll definitely be back to explore more.
