After many visits here, I can honestly say that the crab and shrimp eggrolls are one of my favorite cravings in the East Bay! The sauce is to die for and now I understand why they named their restaurant after their sauce. The eggrolls are cracked open, the shell is crunchy which I didn't expect. Whenever I go, I always mean to try other menu items like the hoagies but always end up just ordering the crab eggrolls. Yes, they really are that good. Parking is hella tricky on this street but worth the patience. This place is always popping and busy whenever I come. Expect a wait if you just stop by without preordering but staff is always apologetic and you get excellent customer service!

We had the Buffalo lemon pepper wings, steak egg rolls and linguisa and steak fries. We traveled an hour and 10 minutes to get there, in the rain and everything was sooooo worth it! The flavors, sauces, temperature of the food, freshness! Everything was perfect. We had food leftover and just threw it in the air fryer the next day, still was delish. I would like to just know when the lobby closes bc we really were counting on eating inside. Only bc we commuted there. Other than that, everything was great.

So I have been trying to get to this place for a while now. I'm a real seafood lover and seafood eggrolls has always been on my list of things to do. I realize that you can order on line which would give me enough time on my break to run and pick up. So I ordered the seafood egg rolls and lemon pepper chicken. It wasn't ready when I got there but that was fine because it will be hot. The egg rolls were good, but not what I anticipated it to be. I didn't really see shrimp except one tiny piece in each egg roll. The shrimp are chopped up way too small. It needs more of a bite and bigger chunks. It wasn't even a whole shrimp per eggroll, so I thought that was kind of skimpy. I also think it should be paired with a Yum Yum sauce or a tangy sweet aïoli sauce. It was a little over seasoned and a little Yum Yum sauce would have made it equal.. I didn't like the sauce that it was paired with. The garlic lemon pepper wings were BOMB. Super crunchy, tender and good size. I loved all the crumble from the garlic and lemon so fire. The place is really clean and the people are nice. I would definitely go again. Oh the green apple lemonade was pretty good too.

You can select between 4 different items should you choose this appetizer. We ended up selecting the smoked duck breast and chicken pâté. Both of these options were excellent with the duck breast coming topped with a small amount of flake salt. These starters were also served with crostini, mustard & pickles, and a fruit spread. The mustard provided some nice balance to the richness of the proteins. Additionally, we ordered a little gem salad which was solid. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but good. For my main, I went with the chicken thigh. The thigh was cooked to perfection with an excellent crust and rich sauce surrounding it. The meat was tender and flavorful. I also think the charred vegetables added an interesting bitterness to the meal. We both ordered dirty martinis which were also excellently balanced (extra olive juice of course). Overall, our meal was excellent. The food was good and the vibes were right. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I've heard word that Wood Tavern will be closing down soon unfortunately. Go check them out while they're still around if you want a solid meal on the fancier side.

While this visit was in between the lunch and dinner rush, unfortunately I think they are understaffed because at the time we sat down there was only 1 person who was busing tables and taking orders. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

My only question is....WHY haven't I been here sooner?! I…read morewas craving pastrami, so I looked on yelp for pastrami in the area. My mom and I came in around 2pm on Monday (8/11). It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

When you need a place to unwind with a glass of wine or treat your family to a fancy pasta with red sauce, this is the place to come. We ended up getting bottles of champagne for the mimosas at the table before settling in and ordering our individual meals. I ended up ordering the chive scrambled eggs. The eggs were scrambled to perfection and that bacon??? Just the right amount of crisp. I almost ordered extra because it was that good. Also, do NOT sleep on their housemade hot sauce. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

But then we found Portal! We're not fussy people, and we loved the more down-to-earth vibe of their patio. Plus, it's got heaters and an extendable cover, which was exactly what we wanted! The previous owner, Kevyn, was great to work with, as was the current owner, Mona. We decided to rent the patio and have Portal provide drink service and dishes, but we knew that we wanted a specific restaurant (which doesn't have its own seating area) to provide the food. Kevyn and Mona were both totally down for that, and completely helped us bring our vision to life. There was space for our 50 guests to sit, for the buffet, plus enough space left over for a small dance floor area. Really perfect for our group. Amber, their bartender and events coordinator, deserves a particular shout-out. She worked with my spouse and me to come up with three custom mocktails that fit our taste preferences and even thought of cute love-themed names for all of them! She really went above and beyond for it, having a mocktail tasting for us and even sourcing a non-alcoholic champagne to use for n/a mimosas and in one of the mocktails. It was a wonderful experience, and Amber was a joy to work with. She the one making the mocktails (and alcoholic drinks for guests who wanted them) during the reception, and we heard constant compliments.
