I booked a reservation online, which I'm so glad I did! It was super busy! But we loved the vibe and the playlist of music. Everett and Jones once had a location in Sacramento many years ago and I used to visit often. I loved their barbecue sauce and still buy it in stores when available. I had that in mind when telling my family, 'Let's go!" I was disappointed with the food when we arrived. The first thing I noticed when our food came out was that the barbecue sauce wasn't as thick as I remembered, it was very runny, it's didn't stick to the mean. I also saw a lot of fat on the ribs, but thought maybe the taste would be good, so we prayed and ate. Unfortunately, the ribs were fatty and tough to find good meat. I also tried the brisket, which was a little fatty but VERY good. I ordered mac and cheese and greens as sides, but didn't like either. The mac and cheese had a bit of charred cheese on top (which I love), but I wasn't impressed afterward. My friend's hot link had zero flavor, just texture, which was strange. I was embarrassed because I had bragged about how hot the links were! Sike! Everyone at the table enjoyed the sweet cornbread. We also loved the mango lemonade. The desserts were outstanding: caramel cake, key lime pie, and pecan sweet potato pie. I highly recommend those! I'd visit again but skip the ribs and links. I was extremely disappointed by what I witnessed on Sunday, 6/28, around 7:23 p.m. One of the kitchen workers wiped his face with a napkin, then used that same napkin to wipe his hands, touched his hair, put on a pair of gloves, and continued handling food. Gloves don't replace proper handwashing, especially after touching your face and hair. Watching this completely turned me off from eating there. Management really needs to address food safety and hygiene with their kitchen staff because this is unacceptable. read more

We ordered from Everett & Jones for an event! While the event went well, the energy was good, the food! Specifically the BBQ hot links, chicken and ribs were the star of the show! The smell when you walk in is so yum :) Everything coming out of the kitchen on to customers tables was amazing. Friendly and helpful service! But on to my lunch plate: The brisket was a little dry and a little tough to eat but the sauce made up for it all! We stopped into Everett and Jones BBQ and knew right away we had made a good choice. The place was filled with locals just coming out of church, which always feels like a solid sign. I ordered the brisket and sausage with mac and cheese, potato salad, and cornbread. Everything on the plate was done well. The brisket was incredibly tender, the sauce had great flavor, and the sausage paired perfectly with it. The mac and cheese easily stood out, I could have eaten a whole bowl of it on its own. The potato salad and cornbread rounded everything out and made it a full, amazing meal. The atmosphere felt authentic and comfortable, and it is the kind of place you can tell people come back to regularly. This is easily one of the best BBQ spots I have eaten at, and a place I would go out of my way to visit again. read more

This place brings back memories. I remembered the original location in Berkeley where you had to wait for a long time. Now there are multiple locations, and you can just walk in. There were three of us, and we definitely over ordered. We had enough leftovers to take home to feed two and maybe three people. We ordered the chicken/brisket/links platter AND another brisket and links platter AND another full slab of ribs. It was way too much food. The ribs were my favorite. This was a nice way to enjoy our Sunday, indulged in BBQ. My mom and I ordered a 3 way combo with delicious sides. Our waiter Angie was very attentive and met all of our needs. I went to the Oakland site at MacArthur and High. I ordered a pork rib sandwich. The portions were generous although it included three end pieces that were tough and inedible. The four full ribs were moist and meaty. The service was excellent. The two young people behind the counter taking orders were welcoming and courteous. The restaurant is always clean and well maintained. I am an E & J fan willing to accept a 'hit' or a 'miss' on an occasional meal. read more

Pure disappointment after arriving home with my Saturday night to-go order. Per my last review, macaroni and cheese was amazing! So good, I had to come back and try the rest. Now I wish I was left wondering lol. I ordered the Brisket & Link plate with hot BBQ sauce on the side, double Mac, and a cornbread. Graciously giving this plate a 5/10 and that rating is SOLELY for the macaroni and cheese, which was delicious but not enough to bump the rating even more on the entire plate. I wanted the sauce on the side to try the flavor of the meat itself and wow.... I was disappointed. It was lackluster. No flavor, no seasoning, and SO SO rough. I would not return. They also forgot BOTH cornbreads (mine and my husbands plate) I tried the BBQ sauce with the meat to see if it'd make a difference but sadly, still tough and no longer flavorless but not good either. The sauce just wasn't what I was expecting at all. My husband got a rib and brisket plate with macaroni and cheese & macaroni salad (with cornbread that was forgotten) he got the sauce ON the meat and it was still extremely dry and he said also flavorless. We were hoping to find something close by that could be our new go to bbq spot but this won't be it. We'll continue our search and recommend you do as well if you want tender juicy meat. Quality/Quantity - My daughter went to Planks, Everett & Jones and Dragon Gate; all in one NIGHT! Nice to be young, hip, etc... Anyways, she got the following and brought me back her leftovers. #6 Brisket and Link - The brisket was so SO tender! Wow, exactly how brisket should be made. The links were okay and the mac and cheese were good. But my daughter said everything was 5 stars for her. She also had beans and cornbread. I used to be a regular in their Berkeley location and saw Mary (one of the sisters, owners) often. Mary was so sweet and nice. Atmosphere - We feel this is the best location to visit as if they invested the most $$ in this beautiful location. Near one of the wineries I frequent, Rosenblum. Service - Good, caters to both tourists (the few that JLQ received, lol) and us locals. Price - Reasonably priced for BBQ. $35 + generous tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 1973 and your 6 (7) locations. We have been regular customers (at your Berkeley location) since 2009. After a day of traveling I was treated to this restaurant and could smell the aromas wafting through the air upon entry. I'm told that it's family owned and the recipes are straight fire. I ordered the chicken and brisket combo with Mac-n-cheese, and green beans. My friend ordered the spare ribs with baked beans and green beans. Now let's get down to it. The server was awesome and very attentive. The portion size was very good. The meat and sauce flavor phenomenal, as was the green beans; I didn't particularly care for the mac-n-cheese flavor as it had very little seasoning but lots of cheese. In Oak Town for a track meet and someone recommended this spot. Ordered a combo dinner--ribs, brisket, links, & chicken, with greens, yams, & mac & cheese, with cornbread muffins--to feed two plus. The greens were tasty; cornbread was better than some, as it was real cornbread and not corn cake; the yams were whipped and tasted like sweet potato pie filling, but with insufficient sugar, no butter, no nutmeg, & no caramelization. My nephew, who is 15 and has a voracious appetite, wasn't a fan of any of it except the mac & cheese, cause he apparently ate all of it, so I can't comment on that dish. He kept saying the yams had nothing but cinnamon. NONE of the meats seemed to be very well seasoned, not even the links, which was very puzzling. Maybe they make their own links and just don't put in much seasoning. Ribs and links were moist, but lacked flavor. Chicken & brisket were dry, & flavorless. "When all other meats fail, grab a hot link!" Not at this spot. On the upside, sauces were on the side, and the rib flavor did improve when I dunked the ribs in the sauce This could have been one of their off days, but if the food there is like this all the time, maybe their intended market prefers low to no sodium and dried flavorless meats. read more

9/10 the hype is real! this bbq is known to be one of the best in san fran and i get it. The bbq sauce is tangy but sweet and the meat is slightly smoky. The food came out pretty fast and they were very kind when i asked for their opinion on which sides to get. I ended up getting the mac & cheese and it was slightly spicy which i enjoyed while the potato salad was perfectly balanced ! The location is a little different and central to berkeley so it's not the nicest area but if you go in the daylight, you should be fine! read more

Service was a little slow, thinking that it's because there was only one hostess at the time. The beef has gotten a lot thinner and makes for a tougher bite. The links were amazing as usual. The yams were well seasoned and buttery. Mac and cheese lacked flavor. The cornbread was cold and dry. I will say, the meat is good- the sides are lacking. read more

Food and service just didn't live up to its brand. Voice message say to go online to order or call back. Went online only to get message that read " not taking orders." Called back person took my order but warned me they would not start my order until I came me to pay first. Waited 45 minutes. I didn't check my plate before leaving because I was already flustered with the service then got home and it's was not what I paid for. Instead of two-way tubs n links it was dry chicken and links. Instead of baked beans it was potato salad with was not edible. Tasted sour. Requested mild but sauce was hot. Greens were good fresh not frozen but that's all I could eat for $40 and 45 minute wait. I left a complaint with the restaurant same day. But that didn't seem to be good enough. So let this be told. read more

I don't eat the meat from this place anymore. They don't wanna cook it and they're very stingy with the sauce. I primarily use this place just for the sites. The candy yams are phenomenal. Everything else's a two out of 10 it doesn't matter if you get the food here to go or you sit down and eat it is not gonna taste what you think is gonna taste like like anybody from Oakland will tell you this place used to hit in the 90s in early 2000s after the older people died, they ran it. I haven't been back to Everett & Jones since COVID so we decided to stop by when we were checking out the new D&B. Prices are high but not terrible for barbeque in 2026. I got the 4-way combo, $55, about $10 more than it was in 2022 ($46). The chicken, links, and ribs were decent, but the brisket, my bbq favorite, was trash (dry and tough). The inside is still the same and the service was as bad and slow as I remembered. This is not an issue with the food needing to be cooked, its plates of food piling up and nobody to take it to the customers. Kitchen staff is busy at work while the staff on the floor is putzing around. I probably won't be coming back here anytime soon... read more

I loved thier food and considered it to be the best since Flints went out of business. I bought the link dinner and ribs dinner and was so so disappointed. I received three bones and four rib tips. I had ordered ribs not ribs tips the link dinner I received consisted of a small portion of links that were over cooked, dry and hard to chew. The sauce didn't even taste like it did in the past. The cost was around $65. Dollars. My daughter ordered two meat meal combo and 3 desserts, red velvet cake key lime pie and sweet potato pie and all the above was takeout hers was over $100. When we arrived home as we had driven from vacaville they forgot to include the sweet potato pie that I paid for. The measl cost over $165 dollars, I was so disappointed and will never go back. They gave me ribs tips!. The food doesn't taste as it did in the past. I forgot to mention we ordered corn bread muffins. The muffins were less than half the size of a muffin. They used under size molds for the muffins resulting in child size tiny muffins. The only thing I enjoyed was the coleslaw and for over $165. Not worth it. read more

I feel awful writing this review (mainly b/c I always want to support black businesses) but I cannot express how disappointed I am with the meat served here- it's legit scraps put on the plates and they look and taste like they're extremely old and have been warmed and cooled a few times over. The brisket is dry like beef jerky, the chicken is old and discolored (just covered in sauce) and the ribs are hard. Really enjoyed the meal. Good BBQ is rare in the City; it's often whitewashed and not for me. Glad my partner suggested this place. It was rainy, so not busy -- one other table and some people at the bar. Cozy spot with smooth R&B and a few TVs that aren't hella distracting. Our server, who also hosted, was great--knowledgeable and attentive, even after the bill was paid. We waited less than a minute at the host stand before being seated at a lovely table by the window. Note to future guests: look for the host stand; don't expect a sign. Be patient, someone will seat you. I'm a host and can't stand self seaters. We chose the combo plate with mac and cheese and collard greens. Food and drinks arrived quickly. The lemonade was fresh, unlike a watery one I had elsewhere. My eyes were bigger than my stomach because the portions were large, enough for leftovers. The mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy. Cornbread was fluffy and warm. The greens could have had less pepper and more salt but were tasty. Ribs were my favorite--juicy and tender. Links and brisket were also good. I've been so ify on this place as a Bay Native. I was going for seafood but went left and decided to retry after 7+ yrs and was glad i did! I dined in and it was clean and not busy. I ordered the Ribs & Link (no. 1) dinner. It comes w/three sides. I got: mac n cheese (duh), corn bread & potato salad. I ALWAYS go for greens but I see someone else w/the potato salad and changed my mind. I also got a Purple Cool-aid drink with a c for trademark purposes and it took me to childhood kool-aid. Our server was also great! And that was pleasant. Everything seemed cooked well and consistent and the potato wasn't overly relishy. If you've not tried them because of history, i would say give them another shot now. read more

The Sunday Gospel Brunch was a great time with the family! We were celebrating a birthday. The buffet had a nice variety, though no actual BBQ was included. If I could give negative 100 stars I would. I went in there to just get a small thing of pork ribs. I asked the cashier for the smallest serving possible because I just needed a snack. $25 later I got five pork ribs. Each one was 2 inches long (pictures will be included) and one of them had no meat on it. I was willing to accept this s***** deal hoping that the ribs will be good. Nope they are lower quality than the pre-marinated ones you can get from Safeway. As soon as I was handed my order I asked for two sides of barbecue sauce and said that I was more than willing to pay for them. The cashier charged me for them and it took 8 or 9 minutes to get my sides of barbecue sauce. When she had them to me I looked at my receipt. Was $5.70 for two small plastic cups of barbecue sauce. They were the typical type that you get from anywhere that gives out side sauces. I looked at the cashier and asked her " Is this incorrect? There's no way that two small plastic cups of barbecue sauce can possibly cost almost $6. She just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Fuck This place. To top it off the ribs tasted terrible. The service is terrible (I had to wait almost 10 minutes for my sidea of barbecue sauce) and only got them when I flagged down the worker and asked her about my sauces. I am way way beyond pissed off with this place. The food is s*****, the service is s*****, and the prices are s*****. Tried this place for the first time, ordered take out/delivery. Got the beef brisket dinner. The corn bread was good ... the yams were decent but I've had better. The worst part was that the key part of the meal, the meat, was dry and bland. No BBQ sauce on the meat or on the side or anything. Doesn't look anything like the pictures.
