Hornet's Nest Park might not have the best name for a park, but it is an excellent Park and the great Oasis of greenery to escape the hustle and bustle of living around Charlotte, North Carolina. It is relaxing to walk the trails and whether you like it or not, most of them are paved so you never forget that you are within civilization, but rather can take in the serenity. In addition to the walking path, there's a children's playground, basketball courts, volleyball courts, several pavilions, a BMX track and so much more. This is a great example of how a park can enhance a community and serve as a focal point for the community to gather in their leusure time. This is the kind of park that kids are going to hold fond memories of as they grow older. This is the kind of park that grandparents will remember from their youth and want to take their grandchildren. All in all, this is a pretty amazing park.

I've been here twice. Decided to come here on a Saturday with the boys. They really enjoyed their time here. I will say that the park is clean and the kids had plenty to do. My four year old had to go to the bathroom and I was dreading going inside. But I was pleasantly surprised. It was clean. There were only two stalls of I remember correctly but I wasn't grossed out at all. And my four year old always points out what isn't clean and he had nothing to say. I enjoyed watching the kids on the dirt bike course. I thought that was a unique addition that most parks don't have. They also have a Go Play area, pond, and baseball fields to enjoy. We will of course come back here.

This park is massive and it's awesome. 140 acres and loaded with all sorts of activities that you and your friends and your little ones can do! A full dozen tennis courts, lighted! An 18 hole disc golf course! Four tournament-quality softball fields, lighted! Horseshoe pits, picnic shelters, playgrounds, basketball courts, a lake with a fishing pier, volleyball courts and more that I probably didn't see today. The picnic barn can be reserved, as can any of the eight other shelters. There is a LOT of parking. [Review 12969 overall, 285 of 2020.]

Played tennis here the other day and was very impressed with the park overall. Since the tennis courts are all the way in the back of the park I got the opportunity to drive through most of the park. Very large and a nice hidden gem off of Beatties Ford Road, just north of the Sunset Blvd exit (west). A few highlights of the park are below... As for the tennis courts, the were OK. They were a little dirty and had some cracking. The lights flickered from time to time which got a little annoying as it got darker in the night. The 12 courts are split into 2 groups of 6. There is plenty of parking and seating if you're there to watch as well. Not as nice as some of the other public tennis facilities around Charlotte, but I'd definitely play there again. Next time, maybe I'll leave some more time to check out the whole park. 102 acres 4-field lighted tournament softball complex 18-hole disc golf course 12 lighted tennis courts 2 horseshoe pits 8 picnic shelters 2 Playground units BMX bicycle track Indoor shelter Full court basketball court (2) Lake with fishing pier Concession stand Restrooms Sand Volleyball Courts (2)

(From November 2025)…read more I can't remember how I found this but as I'm driving in Charlotte, my dad and I stopped here to check it out. This is one of the most beautiful parks I've had the pleasure of visiting. There are beautiful views, playgrounds and lawn space for children's play, plenty of parking, trails for walking/bike riding, several bridges, and large trees to compliment the fields. The park is well-kept as everyone here ensures cleanliness and top maintenance. As my dad and I sat down on the bench and soaked in our surroundings, we observed a plethora of activity which included some people flying drones, kids competing in the playground's obstacle course, elderly folks walking, dogs running amok, people racing toy cars, and a few people cycling. The positive energy and vibes were radiant. I'm glad we stopped by here. Definitely worth a visit in Charlotte!

We thought this park looked pretty cool, so we drove over, parked on the road and walked around. It was a nice day and lots of other people were out. All in all, a lovely outdoor space in Charlotte.

The McGill Rose Garden absolutely delivered on that. This is truly a beautiful venue--lush flowers everywhere, winding walk paths, and plenty of places to sit quietly and just take it all in. It's the kind of space where you can slow down, clear your head, and quite literally stop and smell the roses. I found it to be a wonderful spot for reflection, a casual stroll, or simply enjoying nature without needing to leave the city. One of the things I especially appreciated is that you can enhance the experience with a visit to the wine bar onsite, Rosie's Wine Garden, where you can grab a coffee, cocktail, or glass of wine and then wander the grounds at your own pace. It adds a relaxed, almost European feel to the whole experience. A quick heads-up: parking can be a bit tricky, as the entrance is off a busy street, so just take your time and be patient when pulling in. Once you're there, though, it's well worth the effort. Bottom line: If you're looking for a small but charming botanical-style garden in Charlotte--a quiet place to reset, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors--this is a lovely little gem. For me, it checked all the boxes and has become a welcome respite in the middle of a busy day.

Rosie's Coffee and Wine is adjacent and service there was super friendly and fast. There is indoor seating there, but the gardens have little twists and turns and different areas to sit, too.
