The whole property is set back from the road and feels secluded and private while still being just a mile away from the hustle and bustle of Gruene. The cottage is absolutely adorable. The main house also has guest rooms, but the big deal is their Bistro and common area. The Bistro is accessible 24/7 and has great snacks, coffee, and of course breakfast foods. While feeling lazy we took advantage of one of the puzzles in the common room until ready to explore Gruene in the evening. BTW, I'm totally better at completing puzzles (sorry, love!). Check in was super easy. This was just what we needed to get away from it all, and we'll be back again!

Parking was so easy just steps from the front door. Our room was very clean. Loved the fireplace a few things that really need to be noted, is how close the hotel is to everything. It is an amazing location. We walk to our dinner reservations. They also serve wine in the lobby in the evening. The breakfast served in the morning was so good! The view from our table of the pool and the river was just beautiful. At breakfast, we all loved the yogurt parfait. It had crushed pineapple and kiwi. They had sausage, biscuits, and gravy, beautiful quiche, Pastries, so many beverage options. Everyone was so impressed. We all very much enjoyed our stay at the Gruene River Inn.

It always had a welcoming, rustic, hill-country feel to it that matched the surroundings. Our last stay I was really disappointed at the changes that had been made to the decor mostly because they make no sense and did not improve the property in any way. I sincerely hope that the owners did not pay for this decor design. It's pretty awful. (And kind of funny bc it's ALL over the place). What used to be rustic and charming now seems to be modern (gold fixtures, tiled shower, trash cans) asian (black trim, bathroom doors, headboard fabric), kitschy (lasso bedside lamps- that aren't good for reading and don't dim), with a 50's retro flair (the refrigerator and the blue tooth), and modern cowboy art on the walls. Yet, no one thought to include charging ports for electronics! It's so confusing. They pulled out the nice big tub and put in a shower that doesn't have a door and has a shower head with no pressure and no direction to it- so to say it plainly, it's difficult to get clean! Amongst all the changes perhaps fixing the toilet so it doesn't randomly run might have been a good choice. One of the reasons we use to like to stay were the delicious breakfast tacos that were provided. I don't know if they will come back or not as the lobby was under construction, but based on the decor choices my guess is they will make some equally terrible decision regarding the lobby and maybe do away with it all together? Who knows!What it has going for it is that the views are amazing (thankfully they couldn't change that or my guess is they would have)! The bed was comfortable and the towels were top notch. Maybe if you've never been before you won't find it as disturbing but I just had a hard time reconciling the fact that they paid to make the place worse. We might have to find different digs when we're in the area.

There were a few different types of rooms to choose from and we chose the Penthaus 15 because it was on the River. This room is not for tall people (we are not). Choose another room if you're tall! We loved that it's all original buildings from 1800s in the area. Had good plumbing and amazing AC (thank God!) and quite a bit of charm. Please note this is not a bed n breakfast anymore. But The Pantry is a part of the main office and they serve breakfast for reasonable prices. My lox and bagel was amazing and my husband's taco was delicious. Breakfast was a local affair. So many people and everyone was small town friendly. We sat on the porch but there were tables inside and on the back patio. The Texas Pecan Coffee was so good I bought some to bring home. Location of the mansion was perfect! We never even got in our car all weekend!! Shops, live music, bars, parks, river tubing was all within a few blocks. So close that if we needed to cool down (June in TX with no ac in some shops and restaurants) we would just swing back to the room for about 15 mins, cool down, and then keep going. So much live music to enjoy. I see some reviews that complain about music at night but we were not bothered by any of it. We had to strain to hear anything outside our room. The Inn provides earplugs but we didn't use them. We've already promised each other to come back again in the fall when it's a little cooler. And of course we will stay at the Gruene Mansion Inn.

Maybe she should consider not everyone that stays here comes in on a unicorn. We were here for one night to drop an old mom off to see her older sister one last time. It's not for a grand night or weekend, just for some rest. She's a disgusting representation for your hotel and humanity. I will do my best to make sure the word gets out about her. I'm tired of putting up with miserable people making life miserable for those around them.

The room was absolutely beautiful--so cute, thoughtfully decorated, and spotless. The bed was incredibly comfortable, which made it easy to fully relax and enjoy the stay. The common room was such a nice touch--it was always stocked with drinks and snacks and available anytime, which made it feel extra welcoming and homey. The grounds were peaceful and quiet, perfect for unwinding, and the location was super convenient for getting into town. And the breakfast... WOW. Truly to die for. Everything was perfectly cooked, delicious, and there was plenty to eat. The atmosphere during breakfast was so fun and inviting--it really felt like a special experience, not just a meal. We decided on some quiet time in the Texas hill country far away from the Spring Breakers. We came…read moreacross this place online and liked the reviews. Keep in mind when you're trying to get away from it all, you are also gonna find that there's not as much to do either. There's a handful of restaurants, bars and thrift shops and one thing that we noticed is that many of these places are closed on Monday and/or Tuesday. On our arrival at this B&B we were welcomed by Keith and Darrin.......and the cat. This husband and wife team do a great job of making your stay here enjoyable. Breakfast is included with your stay, and it is a lot better than anything you'll get at a comfort inn (see photos). You can eat in the dining room or take a tray upstairs to your room. Now for the inn itself. This is not a house that was later turned into a B&B, it was actually designed as a B&B from the start. Each room has its own balcony and bathroom. The place has a nice rustic feel about it, but it does not have that musty or moldy smell that some old buildings have. The building itself is about 20 years old and is in very nice clean shape. The rooms have wooden creaking floors and the furnishings look as though they're from the 80s and 90s. The amenities include a mini fridge, a Keurig, artificial fireplace and a flatscreen. Since half of your stay here is spent on a bed, each room has a king size bed that is made with coiled mattress springs, not memory foam. We found it to be a little bit softer than we prefer and there is a subtle trampoline effect when your partner moves in the night. Our room had an additional twin bed which my wife preferred after the first night. Our room had a spacious balcony on the corner of the house that overlooks the backyard all the way to Canyon Lake a few miles away. And speaking of the lake, there is no trail that leads from the B&B to the lake, you will have to drive there. However, on those early misting mornings, you'll most likely see deer below your balcony. There was plenty of hot water in the shower and the bathtub came equipped with air jets. I have included pictures of the other rooms here, just not ours. One other facet about this B&B is that it makes a great small venue for a wedding outside and you can book the rooms for your guests. An added benefit is that Darrin owns a floral business on the property. Massages are also offered here. However, I do need to point out that parking is very limited here and street parking is not an option. We spent five quiet nights here in March for the sum total of $1080.
