This is possibly THE best weekend experience we've had so far. This beautiful house is nestled between several acres of private serene land with amazing views. Everything inside the house is upgraded, well planned and pleasing to the eye. The 5 bedrooms with multiple beds could easily accommodate our large group. We just couldn't get enough of the patio, spent hours around the fire pit enjoying the quaint ranch. Come prepared with all your essentials as the closest grocery store is at least 20 minutes away. We went to a few wineries in the area and enjoyed our time there as well. Overall highly recommend, I won't be surprised if I come back this year. read more

The amenities this destination spot offers are top notch. Everything from the linens they use to the fire pit at night, my girlfriends and I could not have had a better time! Girl time is sooooo important and when you don't have to worry about anything but "What are we drinking tonight?" it's a no brainer to keep coming back. Our group of 5 couples had an amazing time at Horsetail Ranch. Kena was super helpful during the booking process and shared a bunch of different restaurant and winery recommendations. The property was promptly ready for us at time of check in and had a bunch of different outdoor games that our group enjoyed. The views from the back patio area are stunning and we enjoyed cooking dinner outdoors and watching the sunset every night! From the moment she said yes, we knew that we wanted an intimate, fun, outdoor wedding where we could have our best friends and family relax together for a weekend. We didn't want to be limited to the standard 4-10 PM window (or midnight if you're lucky!). That's how we found Horsetail Ranch and that's why we drove down to see it. We'd never set out to find the most beautiful wedding venue in California, but when we got to the property it took our breath away. The house, the cabin, the hills, the oaks, the views, the hawks overhead. So classically California, rustic but modern, quiet and peaceful but very alive. We had more venues we had to see that weekend but we looked half-heartedly; we knew the other places didn't stand a chance. Once we picked a date and signed our contract, the owner Kena helpfully laid out all of the services we'd need to arrange (porta potties, insurance, day-of planner, etc) with recommendations and was really responsive and understanding as she helped with all of our many questions and concerns all the way up to the day of the wedding. Though she has some preferred providers, we weren't boxed in and were able to choose the vendors we wanted and go DIY where we could. She was also really generous with site visits as our plans got more concrete, and flexible in accommodating our ideas. Brian, the caretaker who lives on the property with his family, was a real pleasure to work with. He loves the land and the houses and he takes great joy in sharing it with guests. Any time we had an idea or a problem to solve, he knew immediately how to make it work and seemed to genuinely enjoy being involved in putting together a memorable ceremony and reception. We had a barbecue for our guests on the evening before the wedding and I will never forget Brian driving back and forth between the Cabin and his house as he thought of fun new games for us to play with. The main house is stunning. It has a huge, two-story main room with a well-stocked large kitchen, dining room, and living room. There are also five bedrooms, three with their own bathrooms, so your guests will have plenty of privacy when it's time to get away from the party. The Cabin is less private but sleeps quite a few and is a really cool space to stash your groomsmen. It has unique views and a great covered area for hanging out. We had our night-before-the-wedding barbecue there because it's a great space in its own right and also kept the ceremony/reception area at the Villa a surprise. Our goal was always to have a wedding our guests would remember as relaxing and fun. Horsetail Ranch was the perfect place for that. Our friends and family got to know each other over a long weekend; we played lawn games and barbecued; we stayed up late after the dancing was over, laughing in the hot tub under the stars. The look on our guests' faces as one after another they told us they'd never been to a more beautiful venue was just a nice bonus. read more

My fiance and I wanted the venue to be our wedding. We didn't want over-the-top decor, or ornate art and tapestries. We wanted the location to speak for itself. We selected HorseTail Ranch for that very reason, and it delivered in every regard. The property is an incredible representation of the central California coast. When you are there, you know exactly where in the world this glorious piece of land rests. The views are stunning, the house itself gorgeous and so well maintained it's hard to imagine everything is not brand new. When it comes to hosting our wedding, the owner was amazing to work with, the onsite staff more helpful than we ever could have hoped for, and (again) the sights, sounds, and ambiance of the entire place is what made our wedding so special. We stayed at HorseTail Ranch for a long holiday weekend with 4 adults and 5 kids ages 7-16. The house was immaculate with so many appreciated details and touches to make the home comfortable for everyone. The owner was prompt in communicating with us in regards to questions before we booked, suggestions of things to do in the area, questions while we were staying at the ranch, and following up once we left. The care taker was amazingly helpful also and friendly checking us in and out and anything we needed while we were staying. It was like having a 5 star concierge service! Our party of 10 fit perfectly with beds to spare. The house is spacious from the bedrooms, bathrooms and living room. The beds are over the top comfortable and if we didn't want to get up and enjoy our morning coffee around the cozy fire pit and overlooking the breathtaking scenery, we would have stayed in the beds all day! The kids enjoyed exploring the ranch, playing corn hole and the hot tub. The adults enjoyed sitting on the large patio, around the fire pit with our wine enjoying the sunsets. The ranch is secluded enough to enjoy the peace and quiet but also close enough to grab a bite to eat in any of the surrounding towns. A true 5 star vacation rental from start to end. Can't recommend HorseTail Ranch enough and can't wait to return again read more

Our second visit to HorseTail Ranch was just as awesome as the first. There were nine of us, but since the home is so spacious, we never felt crowded. The 5-bedroom, 6-bath home is gorgeous and the kitchen, complete with the best appliances and gadgets, was a great space in which to cook ... even for non-cooks, like me! We hiked the 150-acre private property and took a family horseback ride at CentralCoast Trailrides, located at the entrance of the Ranch. Crystal and Brian, who manage the property, couldn't have been more kind and accommodating. It was our second visit but it definitely won't be our last! read more

It offers everything you could want in a country escape ... - Beautiful, serene location - Large, well-kept, extremely clean home - 5 oversize bedrooms (3 with ensuites) - Well-equipped kitchen, large pantry, wine fridge, beer fridge ... the list is long :) - Laundry (with detergent!) - Beautiful outdoor space with BBQ, firepit and spa - Responsive, helpful hosts happy to assist with ancillary arrangements and answer any questions - Crystal and Brian are the fantastic, friendly on-site managers who are there for you if you need, respectful of your privacy if you don't - C & B also offer great horse riding options for all skill levels (Central Coast Trail Rides) ... and they have a menagerie of pets and farm animals for the kids to feed :) Our family Thanksgiving was fun, relaxing and indulgent thanks to all involved in HorseTail Ranch. We will definitely be returning with other friends. If you are considering the Creston / Paso Robles region for a few days R&R, you should definitely have this place on your list. read more

The home and the property are both top notch. The house is beautiful with plenty of space. Super comfortable beds, a well appointed kitchen with everything you would need to prepare meals and top of the line appliances. Communication with the owner was seamless- she's very responsive and super friendly. The property itself is beautiful - fabulous views of rolling hills in every direction, on-site hiking and walking, and tons of space for our children to play. Sheer heaven. Our week at HorseTail Ranch was glorious from beginning to end. While we loved hunkering down to read, play games, stargaze and relax in the serenity of the property for the first few days, we eventually ventured out to Paso Robles for restaurants, wine tasting, and even a last-minute concert. We stayed at Horse Tail Ranch October 2018 and it was awesome. The property is absolutely gorgeous and the home is so pristine and very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped including an outside bbq and plenty of seating and the house has a wonderful floor plan for accommodating a large family or group of friends. We had an amazing time here and loved our morning walks in the scenic setting and horseback riding was available down the hill with the delightful ranch hands, Brian and Crystal, who were so very kind and accommodating. Lovely venue for intimate wedding! We found HorseTail Ranch when looking for a venue for a small wedding with a few close friends in the vicinity of our favorite wine region, Paso Robles. It fit the bill perfectly - not only was the size well-suited, they were amenable to weddings and even had a lake/pond with a small dock that was the perfect setting for the ceremony, which we held and literally said "I do" just as the sun set over the hills. (We didn't plan that, it was just serendipity.) The dock was a short walk to the main house where we had an outdoor reception and then inside for group dinner. As these things go, the small party expanded a bit but luckily HorseTail Ranch also had an adjoining property which was able to accomodate the additional guests. In total, we had 21 people (not everyone stayed on the property but most did). The house was well-appointed and had a large kitchen that supported everyone. Laundry, parking, etc. was all ample. We rented some golf carts to shuttle people between the main house and the extra place (we had some older people in the party). Kena recommended a wedding planner and she was able to help arrange catering, officiant, equipment rental, and all the other nagging details. We even arranged wedding day activities on the ranch: horseback riding for those who didn't want to go on a wine-tasting tour, which was also a wonderful option since HorseTail Ranch is close to some really wonderful wineries (we were within 15 minutes of Cass, August Ridge, and Still Water and we hit them all). We felt as if we had a private place with beautiful scenery from the top of the hill but we weren't totally isolated - on Friday night before the event we had a pizza party as people trickled in - a 25 minute drive to Atascadero did the trick and we ate outside around the fire pit (we also rented heat lamps because it was winter). Kena, the owner, was helpful as we worked through the logistics and the caretaker, Brian, was helpful on our arrival and checked in on us periodically. If ever we need another venue for a group, HorseTail will be at the top of the list! read more

My sister and I hosted a girls'/moms' weekend away for 10 of our friends from LA and the Bay Area a couple weekends ago, and we couldn't have had a better weekend despite the chilly weather. The house itself was incredible - there was plenty of room for all 10 of us in the 5 bedrooms. And the downstairs area was perfect for playing board games, cooking delicious meals, and enjoying cocktails in the hot tub/around the fire pit. We had a wonderful local yoga teacher come teach a class Saturday morning, and some of us did a trail ride around the ranch Sunday. It was a perfect location for enjoying the Creston Wine Trail - about 10-15 minutes from most of the vineyards. We met such nice, down-to-earth people/owners at the vineyards - it was a lot more personal and fun than other areas like Napa/Sonoma which have so many more tourists. I am a planner, and Kena, the owner, was super helpful with suggestions for dinner locations and vineyards, etc. I will definitely be back with my family - hopefully this summer! read more
