Katherine always welcomes us with a smile and warm hello in the driveway. Spotlessly clean every inch of the inside of the Villa. Maintained with immaculate care Thankfully nobody under legal drinking age allowed! Adults only policy makes for a welcome, tranquil refuge at this small 4 bedroom bed & breakfast Villa. No smoking policy is also great. One man came into the dining room absolutely reeking of some sort of cologne at breakfast though - it was choking, smelled even from 10 feet away, and made me cough, yuck. Please people - any scent you wear should only be smelled if someone is close enough to hug or kiss you! Be considerate of the others, guests, staff and owners alike!! Chef Wills does double duty; and helped bring luggage upstairs when we arrived, and did the same at departure, which is a big help. The take your shoes off policy upstairs helps keep the owners carpeting clean. Bedroom Curtains are for privacy, and are not black-out. Sleep mask is provided in bedside table. Fresh air coming in the open windows smells so good! Prettily wrapped, petite sized, 0.75 ounce of soap in the shower, with pump bottle of Dial soap at the bathroom sink. plus there is also a huge battub. Arrowhead bottled water in bathroom. Breakfast starts at either 8:00 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. Love their mini-croissants! Views of the vineyards from the two upstairs bedrooms is very pretty. The good: a small, quiet inn along the outskirts of Paso Robles overlooking vineyards and fields that make for a scenic view. The not as good: the accommodations were comfortable albeit dated room; while clean and tidy, some aesthetic improvements would certainly have enhanced our experience and expectations, especially in consideration of the charged rates - generally in line with what we've pay for more exceptional quality inns of this nature. The bad: the rules,regulations and restrictions. After a hot afternoon of traveling, we arrived at the front gates at 2:38. When we called the house phone as per the instructions sent to us, we were met not with a "Welcome" but "You're early! Check-in isn't until 3". We were buzzed in nonetheless but when met at the front steps by the proprietress, Kath, she instructed my husband where to park so he could "drag" the suitcase in. Wisely, he decided to let both me and the suitcase off, thereby averting the need to drag either one of us...because at that point, I was beginning to sense some red flags. More appeared as Kath brought us in to wait the 15 minutes (of note: there was only one other couple staying there at the time) and explained the Inn was part of a ten year plan, of which she and her husband were nearing the end. Before allowing us up to our room, where shoes must be removed before entering (I was aware if this and figured it was due to rich, plush carpeting; suffice to say I was wrong), Kath spotted the small zippered Nektar bag I was carrying to which I was asked, "That's not food, is it? Food is not allowed in the room". I felt admonished while having to explain it was my prescription medication. I do have to say, she warmed up somewhat during subsequent encounters although I give credit to her better half, Will, for being much more loquacious and hospitable, as we had the opportunity to speak a bit more during wine & cheese hour, followed by breakfast the next day. It bears mentioning that the window for breakfast has narrowed considerably from what previous reviewers complained was too constrictive, as we were told it was between 8-8:30 - a half-hour, apparently cut down from an original 90 minute window, clipped further to 1 hour, at least from what I read in other reviews here. Many of which sadly indicated Kath's demeanor was not so much a result of coming to the end of her tenure as an inn keeper but perhaps due more to this being a job that isn't quite her calling. read more

Wills and Kath keep a beautiful bed and breakfast that exceeded in all expectations. The property itself is elegant and refined with beautiful grounds. They keep a very tidy establishment, and there are rules to keep it that way. I have a no-shoe rule in my own house, so I understand completely! I enjoyed spending the evenings after wine hour looking out into the sunsetting sky with the Dale Evers statue, "Escuchame." Breathtaking. I went into town to see his studio after seeing the lovely artwork through the Canyon Villa. Personal touches touches throughout with handwritten welcome notes, dinner name cards, and introductions to other guests. The room was very clean, comfortable, and felt cozy. I loved the lavender pillow spray! Each morning started with cornettis and jam, a fruit course, and a savory. Everything tasted divine and I couldn't imagine a better breakfast. Filling, but never heavy. Wills is an exceptional chef, and he takes the time to explain each element of the wine hour small plates, and is willing to share his methods and recipes (can't wait to make his mint sauce!). If you can, definitely join the Sunday Supper. It's a great experience when they bring in winemakers for a personal tasting, and the food is better than any restaurants in the area. Spectacular experience. This is most definitely the place to stay for a trip to Paso. It's an Italian style villa with beautiful views and grounds. You will feel swept away and at peace. It's a place to relax. My husband and I stayed at the Canyon Villa 10 years before for part of our honeymoon. We were blessed to have a special night for our 10 year anniversary and Chef Wills & Kath made it perfect, truly. My husband was able to work with them to create a romantic time including letting him in early so he could bring peonies, which Katherine arranged for all over the room. It was beautiful to walk into. Then Chef Wills made a delicious, exquisite 5 course dinner, just for us. We did enjoy their wine hour (with cheese and amazing accoutrements) and got to talk with the other guests prior to the dinner. That alone was neat, but the dinner was just unique and perfect. Each dish was so thoughtfully created that you wanted to savor each dish. It was Italian influenced to fit the setting. Then we rested in a comfortable bed to wake up to another delicious two course breakfast by Chef Wills. Poached pear at breakfast, brilliant. You will then have another opportunity to talk with the guests and Katherine. Very special to share your time with other guests. Although if you are more introverted, I'm sure they can accommodate. It was tough to leave. So, if you're looking to enjoy Paso, I highly recommend staying here. It will be a highlight and a memory. read more

Chef Wills and Kath were exceptional hosts! It was a pleasant surprise to be greated by Kath personally upon our arrival. First of all, the property itself is so beautiful with manicured landscape, and perched on the hill overlooking the local vinyards. We loved the various birds scurrying around outside. Our room (Siena) was not only immaculately clean, but beautiful and relaxing with a fabulous view from our balcony. The bed was so comfortable, and cozy. Wine hour, and breakfast were our favorite. Kath shared lovely wines, and Chef Wills made us the most delicious tastes for wine hour, including various cheeses, dips, home made lavash crackers. The breakfasts were superb! We were able to enjoy mini croissants ("cornetti") with jam, a fruit parfait with granola, mint and lime zest, a fritatta with homemade Italian sausage, avocado toast, and orange slices with a maple ginger glaze. To be honest, the wine hour, and breakfast was the food we enjoyed most while in Paso. Our only regret- not adding on the dinner with Chef Wills (or staying Sunday for dinner!- We will be sure to do that next time!) We will certainly be back! read more

This place is amazing. Just far enough in the country to be peaceful yet close enough to town to be there in under 10 minutes. The rooms are very beautiful and comfortable. The couple who own and run it are so fun and friendly. The breakfast was so good. We ate outside on the patio. But you can always eat inside as well. I found the villa to be warm and charming. I have to preface bed & breakfast might not be our 1st choice in lodging. When we checked in the Co.-owner was gracious and seemed excited to see us. As she talked while we unloaded our car she noticed I had a white bag inside of my purse. She immediately reminded us there is absolutely no eating or drinking other than water in the room. She reminded me of the email that was previously sent with the house rule and regulations. (I felt like I was back in high school living at home) The room was fine, not my style but nice. Breakfast was served between 8-9am. I think they forget that people are in vacay and these are early hours to get up to eat. Maybe coffee while getting dressed, but that's not permitted. We will not return to this establishment as we were just not comfortable being there. read more

My husband and I found this beautiful gem and can't say enough amazing things about The Canyon Villas. Chef Wills and Kath were genuine hosts who truly know the meaning of hospitality. Their attention to detail made our time there very special. We spent a day cooking with Chef Wills in "kitchen stadium" and it was neat to see his creativity come alive as he shared his years of culinary knowledge with us. Incredible experience! This is our third time at the Canyon Villa Inn. 5 years ago, my wife and I renewed our vows for our 25th wedding anniversary. The owners Will and Katherine are truly incredible people and could not have been more helpful in our preparations. It was truly a memorable experience. Last week we returned for our 30th wedding anniversary. We didn't renew our vows, but we did have an incredible 4 course dinner that Gourmet chef Will prepared. It was THE best Filet Mignon I have ever had...and I'm almost 60! This incredible meal was served by a caring and professional staff, that incidentally took great photos of our dining experience. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. Every morning Will prepares a delicious 3 course breakfast. Katherine hosts a wine hour afternoons at 5:30 PM. If you're in the California central coast area, you must check this place out! You will truly feel that you're in Tuscany! read more

We have stayed here many many times over the past decade+, but this was our first time since the new owners "Kath and Wills" took over. Boy is it different, and not in a good way. The former owners were warm, welcoming, professional, and Incredibly hospitable. The new owners are, let's just say, none of the above. The reservation process was annoying, and we almost changed plans but decided to stay here anyway even though we were already concerned. We brought friends who had never stayed there before and they were equally appalled by these people who run this place now. It's so sad what they have done with Canyon Villa after so many years of wonderful owners. There are too many bizarre things to list here but let's just say that if you claim to be in the hospitality business but everything you say and do is rigid, cold, and frankly bitchy, maybe you should consider a career change. From our arrival, it was immediately evident that we were inconveniencing Kath who, for some reason, they've chosen as Front of House to interact with guests. Every single time we had to interact with her during our stay was incredibly awkward and upsetting. For one thing, we asked for breakfast our first morning and we're told it's only from 8-9am. WTF? We didn't know that and when we asked, Kath rudely said "it's in the book in your room, didn't you read it?" She also spoke ill of the previous owners to us, even though when we made our reservation we told them we had been regular guests there for many years. She told us that she and Wills are making a business out of CV, not like the previous owners who "ran it as a hobby". very unprofessional and also patently untrue. And a bizarre thing to say to first time guests you don't know. She has a very aggressive personality and is extremely unpleasant, fake, and just all around the pits. Also when we made the reservation, we confirmed that masks are required/worn inside here and she was so weird about it but said yes. Then we get there and they did not wear masks or require them of guests. So I guess that tells you a lot about them too... Wills tried to be nice but there's just a fakeness to both of them and it's apparent that all they care about are dollars, not people, and not being gracious hosts. It's evident that their main objective is to upsell guests instead of being welcoming and authentic like the previous owners. She is the worst choice for the guests to have to deal with. The 4 of us have never ever seen anything like this kind of rude hosting and sadly would never recommend staying here. There are so many wonderful places to stay in Paso-- don't let this rude woman be your experience here. Choose somewhere else and enjoy your visit! read more

Probably the worst hospitality experience we've ever encountered. First, the property is located very conveniently to town and all the wineries. The home is in good shape but the beds are small. Not king, not queen, but good old double beds. Oh, you are not allowed to put your shoes on in the rooms as they believe you will damage their apartment level carpet. And you will find numerous warning tags in the room letting you know they will check to see if you have stolen anything upon your departure. Kind of not classy... The one star is because these people should not be in the hospitality business. I believe they are struggling financially so everything is on the cheap. Katherine is a very troubled lady and can get mean-spirited quickly. Wills is a very nice man but not the level of chef they purport. In fact, of the 4 of us staying, 3 of us got sick after a dinner he prepared. The steak was like shoe leather and the shell fish smelled dated. Again, I think they are struggling financially and not able to provide the quality of food that one would expect. We spent 3 nights there and realized we didn't feel welcome on the first night so it was awkward and uncomfortable. Kind of creepy... read more

We had a pleasant visit at the Canyon Villa. The rooms were great and very quiet, the spa tub in each room made for a great getaway treat, and the food is excellent too. We were overall really pleased with our stay and made this known to the hosts. Just be aware that this is not a BnB where you can set your own schedule. I was informed when checking in that breakfast is from 8 to 9:30. Over dinner later that evening, husband and I decided we'd likely opt out of breakfast the following morning and sleep in. I emerged at 9:20 for a cup of coffee and declined breakfast (thinking I was being polite since it was the very end of breakfast period, anyway) but the owner coldly admonished me that "chef needed to know." Not sure how I was supposed to tell "chef," since we'd only decided to sleep in at about midnight the night prior. We never signed any hard commitment to show up at breakfast, nor did we give her a verbal confirmation we'd be there, so I was confused. I would recommend to the hosts that in the future, they ask guests to confirm their meal presence in advance and give them a way to opt out if they decide to sleep in. Again, I thought the polite move was to then notify her we wouldn't be joining the other breakfasts or wine hours and would be making our own plans elsewhere (because, look... adhering to a schedule just ain't our idea of a romantic getaway). Still, the host seemed upset by this and kept asking, "you're certain?" we did end up calling back later in the day and opting back into breakfast because I was a little scared to not show up. And of course, as mentioned before, the food was excellent and very well prepared. One of the other guests evidently noticed my discomfort, because they leaned in and whispered, "you know, most BnBs aren't like this... this is a very, um.... 'hands on' experience." I would overall recommend staying here if you're looking for a highly attentive and structured stay where the hosts are very active, but maybe not for anyone who's looking for a more laid back romantic getaway like we were. read more

When I'm at The Canyon Villa, the beautiful views make me feel like I'm in Tuscany. Not like the "resorts" by the highway. They have the most comfortable beds, big bathrooms, and all very clean! Owners, Wills and Katherine, pay attention to every detail. We've stayed here many times, we always come back because we know we can count on the quality, comfort and service. Katherine even keeps notes so she can customize their offerings to your preferences. You will make friends with the other guests while enjoying wine hour and breakfast together, but you'll also have privacy and the ability to come and go like it's your own home. The COVID safety enhancements are noticeable but this place was always super clean. Now couples are distanced during wine hour and breakfast. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Canyon Villa on a last minute planned get away to Paso Robles. We were lucky enough to stay there April 13th and April 14th a few weeks back. It was like landing in another dimension! Surrounded by vineyards....this little slice of paradise is a must experience as Katherine and Will are quite the entertaining type. Both are very warm and friendly people. Our group of six makes an annual wine country trip. This year, it was to Paso Robles. My bud booked The Canyon Villa 6 months in advance. Since then, it has been added to Select Registry, which recognizes only the best B&Bs in the country. The Canyon Villa is the ONLY Select Registry B&B in the area, and deservedly so. This adult-only facility sits on 11 acres of gorgeously manicured landscaping. The inn sits on a hill, offering a great view of the nearby vineyards and olive orchards. On arrival, Chef Wills and his wife Bootsie greeted us enthusiastically. There are only four rooms, which makes for an intimate setting. Our room was spacious and well appointed. Every detail is covered, from slippers to USB wall outlets. The bed is, um, wow! All six of us felt like it was sleeping on a cloud. Easily the most comfortable bed on which I've slept away from home! The pillows were a bit unforgiving, but not a biggie. Carpeting was thickly padded, making for a nice walk around the room. The bathroom was large with a two-person jetted tub and separate shower. There's a nice living room with a fireplace for relaxing. The backyard is huge and features a nice fountain and quiet seating area beneath a patio. Breakfast is the highlight here, prepared by a former executive chef from Playboy Mansion. Each morning featured a truly unique offering. Chef Wills also offers an afternoon wine and cheese pairing. Sunday night dinner is also quite fun. He sources the food locally, as much as possible. Everything is super fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The French press coffee is robust and flavorful, with nary a hint of bitterness: excellent. Hospitality is world class. If you're looking for a top-notch place to stay in Paso Robles, look no further. This is really the only choice. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

The views were amazing. The grounds were exquisite and well maintained. The food coming out of the chefs kitchen in the morning was ridiculously tasty. Sunday supper was one of the most memorable dining experiences I've ever been a part of. The wine hour at 5:30 had beautiful wines and food to pair. I struggle writing this review as I too own a Bed & Breakfast Inn, so we are colleagues. However, this inn which has every right to hold 5 stars majorly fails at health and safety, Neither the owners nor their staff worm masks at any time inside the inn. This includes the servicing of the guest rooms, and the preparation and serving of food, a major violation of heath protocols. I am seriously disappointed in their cavalier attitudes and the disregard for the health of their guests. To be completely visible, I own The Gables Wine Country Inn in Sonoma County. read more

We very much enjoyed our stay here and would consider staying again, but it's not a certainty. On the plus side, it's very nice grounds, a lovely building and great hosts. Wills and Katherine are just a very cute couple. She is very nice and outgoing, Wills also enjoyable to chat with but not quite as outgoing. There is a lot to like - Katherine insisted on helping me cart in the wine boxes we didn't want to keep in the car during the day and was just so gregarious and fun. Wills definitely knows what he is doing in the kitchen, having been the Playboy mansion chef for so many years. We elected to have a personal dinner there and it was a memorable 7-course type deal. There was nothing we had that wasn't at least 4 out of 5 stars. What is interesting is there was also nothing Wills made for us that was out-of-this-world good. Perhaps my expectations were too high, given his previous role. They brought in a server for us, which added a bit of formality to the dinner, but honestly seemed unnecessary and just added to the expense (tip for her on the $250 dinner). It was worth doing if you have no other plans, but not sure we would do it again. The room was comfy but two complaints -we could hear the only other guest one of the evenings we were there who had the room below us. First we heard him on the phone, and then we heard is snoring. I thought I could qualify for the Olympic snoring team but he was really stellar. it shouldn't come through the ceiling that loudly. Second, the room we stayed in (forget the name) was just aching for a King bed. The queen is just not perfect for a couples weekend when you want to stretch out at times. I talked with wills about it, and it comes down to he doesn't want to fork out the money to put in a King right now. The room most definitely can accommodate a bigger bed. My wife and I visited between June 8-10 and our stay was extraordinary in every way. Katherine and her husband Chef Wills went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The Villa is perched on a hilltop with a commanding view of the valley and the vineyards--a breathtaking location. We stayed in the Sienna Room which was very comfortable and had a king bed. The piece de resistance X 2 was Chef Wills gourmet breakfasts and daily wine tasting with a personalized charcuterie board--I would return for those two experiences alone. O my. Where do we start? Kath met us as we drove up the driveway to welcome us. Wow. It only got better from there. Wills is a fabulous chef. We are foodies, and he could cook for us daily. Clean, fresh, organic. He knows his food AND wine! Very engaging with the guests, too. They are both certainly into hospitality. Couldn't have wanted to spend a holiday time with a better couple. "Best B&B and Best Hosts Ever" My wife and I have been to many B&Bs over the past 30 years, but this is by far the best ever. The Tuscan style villa is on a 10+ acre parcel with no neighbors--only spectacular views of the rolling wine country of Paso Robles, CA. Our second-floor suite was comfortable, private, and luxurious with great views and a beautiful spa-tub and large private bath. We were in the Sienna Room, one of only four very private suites. The gardens boast Mediterranean-style vegetation, with dozens of species of birds. We saw two families of quail with their tiny chicks running along and hopping up over the pathways. But the physical facilities, as comfortable and fabulous as they are, are secondary to the hosts and their welcoming personalities. Katherine Bloxom-Carter and Chef William Carter could not have been more gracious. We stayed two nights, and by the time we left, we felt like family. They welcomed us into their kitchen where Chef Carter created the most amazing dishes for wine hour in the evenings and for breakfast each morning. Our first morning we had fresh peaches from their own trees, croissants made from scratch that morning, a delightful quiche, and pressed coffee. When you think of these dishes, think custom-created, Michelin-quality dishes for each. Perfectly portioned, seasoned, and presented. Oh, and delightfully served by Nydia. The second morning the menu was different, but just as amazing. We live only 40 miles from The Canyon Villa, but we felt as if we were a continent away during our stay. We were there to celebrate our 46th anniversary. We will find any excuse to go back. Although Katheryn and William (celebrating 30 years plus of marriage) have owned The Canyon Villa for 14 months, they possess it as if they have owned it all their lives. I would highly recommend this luxurious Bed and Breakfast to anyone looking for a romantic getaway. The owners were so fun and kind. The owner is a chef and made the best food we've ever had. PERFECT GETAWAY!! Can't say enough about this beautiful bed-and-breakfast and the lovely stay we had! My husband and I came here to celebrate our 30th anniversary in wine country. Although our reservation was extremely last minute, the owners Katherine and Wills could not have been more gracious! Pulling in your breath is taken away by the gorgeous setting and amazing views. Katherine even ran out to greet us as we pulled in. After a long day of traveling we could not have appreciated her welcoming touch more. She gave us the tour of her home, which is just stunning, and introduced us to her equally welcoming husband Wills. They told us Wills was a professional chef and to expect great things. Well they did not disappoint!! Every morning we were greeted with French pressed coffee and the most amazing breakfast I think we've ever had! They have only been the innkeepers for just a year now, but in my opinion all other inns could take a page from them! Our room was just stunning. Beautiful comfy bed, fireplace, plush robes, large bathroom. The bed faces sliders overlooking the mountains and the winery below...just breathtaking! Their whole home is immaculate! Both Wills and Katherine are the perfect hosts. They took great pains to tell us about restaurants, attractions and nearby wineries, even providing us with coupons for free tastings. Hearst Castle is a must to see while you're there! They only have 4 guest rooms, so you truly feel this is your home away from home! I've never had an establishment call me and tell me that they are cancelling my reservations because they don't think they can meet my needs. Don't ask to eat breakfast outside because those tables aren't communal. Don't wear shoes in the room or you'll ruin the carpet. Don't eat or drink in the room or you'll ruin the carpet. You have to eat between 8 and 9 on vacation. Don't stay 3 days or you'll "trigger" them to have to make dinner. I am a grown woman who does not need helicopter landlords while on vacation. Horrible attitude and no hospitality skills. Save your money and don't spend time making a reservation so that they can decide to cancel it 15 minutes later. read more

Just finished a two day stay capped off with an exquisite birthday dinner prepared by the owner. The new owners, William and Katherine, are the ultimate hosts. The building, the facilities, and the views are all outstanding. Breakfast is not typical B&B fare either as evidenced by the mushroom and scallop crêpes accompanied by banana beignets we had this morning. Delicious. Katherine exudes warmth and grace. You'll leave feeling that paths will cross again. I hope so. They've only owned the place for a couple of months but you would never know it. William has a long history in the hospitality business and professionalism abounds. First class through and through. It was our first time to Paso. We loved the area and hope to go back.
