This is one of the few breakfast joints/bakeries in Madison, but it is a good one. They have the standard sausage/bacon/egg/toast offerings. But make sure you save room for a donut from the pastry case.

Timeless staple in Madison! We love our Horst bakery, everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. Plus the donuts, muffins, and cookies are amazing! If you're ever in Madison give Horst a try, you will not be disappointed.

Another tradition to stop in here. Wonderful small town gem. German clocks and collectible houses and nutcrackers line the walls. They are known for their donuts be we get a breakfast. My husband ordered the goetta breakfast with eggs and toast and I ordered the bacon, eggs and toast. Nothing super special, just great conversation from the locals and a wonderful home cooked breakfast.

If you are in Madison and you need breakfast/brunch, you need to immediately seek out Horst's. Their biscuits and gravy are my lifeblood. I devour a plateful every time I'm there. The staff is quirky and friendly, just like the decor. You can't beat the prices either! Sometimes, you have to wait for a table, which can be awkward because there simply isn't enough room inside to do so. Most times, the staff will let you wait outside and come and get you when a table is ready - keeps you out of their way :) Also, whatever you get to eat, please get a glazed donut on the side for your table to share. This is the most important part of this review. You'll thank me later.

Very friendly service, no frills, just good basic breakfast. They also have a very tasty doughnut counter.

Food was mediocre. Too much black pepper on the gravy, but the glazed donuts was amazing.

The donuts are the best you can have. We have tried many other donut shops while on vacation but Horst's donuts come out on top.

I stopped in for dinner with coworkers while in town, based on a recommendation from our hotel staff. Glad we listened, because this place was far and wide the best meal I've had in Madison. The restaurant is small and quaint, but has both a Midwest & Southern-touch feel to it; they serve American-French fusion cuisine with a hint of creole... Lots of choices from creole-inspired appetizers to salads, steaks, seafood, and pastas. I ordered the Caesar salad and seared halibut, which were both out of this world. For the quality of the food and the level of customer service (our server Samantha was excellent), RoM is very well priced... While it wasn't cheap, this fine meal was worth every penny ($60 w/ tip for dinner). I've been to many restaurants in Madison over the few years I've been coming down here for work, and RoM is unquestionably my favorite of them all... I will definitely be back and certainly recommend you stop in if you're look for a spectacular elevated dining experience when in Madison.

The inside was full but the restaurant is deceivingly large inside and they had us seated in under 10 minutes. Took drink orders quickly and got the drinks out even quicker. The lunch menu is small but covers everything. Our food for all 10 people came out at the same time and in only about 15 minutes. I was super impressed. Sandwiches were pretty greasy and lacked fresh/crunchy elements but we all enjoyed quite a bit as we were hungry from a hike at Clifty Falls. My turkey pita press was heavy on the chipotle mayo/melted cheese/bacon and slid apart but the portion was generous and it was as advertised. Service was amazing and I'd highly recommend to hungry tourists like us! They are working with a tight space and are doing an amazing job accommodating everyone and turning out quick and quality food.

We started with the sauer kraut balls, pretzel with beer cheese, and pickle fries. All were delicious! The pickle fries have a great pickle to breading ratio, will gladly order these again! Some of the booths are German style, giving you a European feel. Madison, our server, was friendly and attentive. The servers know the regulars by name and welcome them warmly. We sat in a booth near the kitchen and could hear a lot of laughter coming from the cooks in the back. The place is jovial. We ordered the Chicken Dinner for Two ($32) which includes about 10 pieces of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and choice of salad or slaw. This was a massive amount of food and could easily feed a family of four. The coleslaw was delicious, the best I've had in a while. The slaw was creamy and tart (not too sweet). The hand-breaded chicken is a winner in my book. The breading is crispy with lots of seasoning, especially pepper. The chicken is hot, moist and tender - perfectly cooked. This is some of the best fried chicken in the State. The potatoes and gravy are an indulgent treat for me. Yes, I had seconds. The green beans are cooked with bacon, yet light. My husband really liked the beans. We took half the meal home for dinner. The menu is German- themed, combined with traditional Hoosier classics. The Tenderlojn sandwich they serve put them on Indiana's Tenderloin Trail. I wanted to try the sauerkraut balls and pretzels, but I was too full. There is free street parking. There are tv monitors to watch the games at the small ball. Brau Haus is totally worth a visit.
