This was our favorite dining experience in Roma. It's a cute little restaurant off the main streets and is very modest in its appearance. Once you step inside its a quaint and cute restaurant. Because it's small the chairs and tables are pretty much back to back. This makes for a great opportunity to bump your knees or your neighbors and start and conversation. We came on a Friday night so the place was very ,very, alive. The host had to turned down some eager passerbys who didn't have reservations. We ate here twice during our stay in Rome and found it to be excellent both times. The owner/Chef was entertaining, hospitable and very accommodating. When I told her I was between two dishes (the tripe and rabbit) she took care of it by bringing out two HUGE portions of both and only charged me for one. Also, and I don't know if they do this for everyone all the time or not, she sent us home with a free bottle of red wine each night we dined there. I noticed a couple of reviews where people complained of stale bread and lackluster food which is very surprising to me because that is entirely inconsistent with our experience - that's why we went back. My family is from Spain and I have visited there over forty times. I lived there for a few years both as a child and after college. I have done my share of wining and dining in the mediterranean and I was lucky to have grown up enjoying my mother's extraordinary mediterranean cooking. I don't know if this makes me any sort of an authority on this type or food or not, but we found the food to be one of the closest things to an authentic Italian home cooked meal we had in the three weeks we spent traveling around Italy. We loved it. The restaurant is nestled in the small streets of the Trastevere section of Rome where the locals like to hang out. As some reviewers have pointed out it is very small and the tables are really close together but that's due to the physical limitations of the space they're in and is not unusual for any of the mediterranean countries we normally frequent, especially in ancient cities like Rome. I guess we would call it "cozy." One reviewer called it a "tourist trap" but that was also inconsistent with our experience. We noticed one table of fellow Americans the first night and one table the next night, other than that everyone was speaking Italian and appeared to be locals. We went in May (2017) to avoid the tourist season so I don't know if this restaurant is different during the peak tourist months or not. If you are looking for a spacious restaurant with Italian food like what you find in the U.S. then you should probably stick to The Olive Garden. But if you want to eat an authentic and delicious meal (at a very reasonable price) in a small but very inviting restaurant then I would highly recommend this place. read more

I saw some good reviews on Yelp for this place and decided to go there for dinner on a Thursday night. It was a mission to find this place as its hidden away in a small alley in the Trastevere area. We reached around 9 pm only to find the place empty. It was just me and my bf. We were not very pleased with the ambience. It was too quiet and the server made us feel slightly uncomfortable. She would stare us down from every possible corner of that restaurant. I am sure she meant no harm but it was just weird. For food we ordered the burrata which was super fresh, followed by artichoke flowers which did not taste good at all, and lastly truffle ravioli with porcellini mushrooms which was the highlight of our meal. We came here based on other great Yelp reviews and weren't disappointed. The food is really good and the house wine definitely the best house wine we've ever had. We shared the Fiori di Zucca and bruschetta pomodoro for starters. The deep-fried zucchini flowers were tasty and salty and heavy, and the tomatoes on the bruschetta rich in flavor. The pasta dishes, Gnocchi with Gorgonzola and Penne all'arrabbiata were well balanced in flavor and actually complimented each other really well. (We kinda share a lot) The spiced penne seemed light and strong and having a couple of gnocchi after, the creamy cheese seemed to soothe the spicyness. Our only gripe was that the portions were too large. This may seem a little spoiled, but it's what kept the last star out of the rating. A large part of eating a good meal is the balance of portion size. Using that last pasta to scrape up the remaining sauce and feeling the sugar craving that makes you look forward to desert. We couldn't finish the pasta and felt a little bad for it, and were even too full to try any of their desserts. It takes a lot to earn 5 stars... I need the 4.5 for this place, but have to settle for 4. This place lives up to the hype. You'll find it by walking through a fairly busy neighborhood, then you turn down this random street and there's nothing except this place, and the line of people waiting to get in. The line moves pretty fast, so it's not really an issue, but if you have the option to make reservations, I suggest you make them. We did and it helped. The best part next to the food, is the owner/waitress covering the entire restaurant. She kind of reminded me of the soup nazi from Seinfeld, cross her and no pasta for you! For the food, I settled on the artichoke, which was fantastic, wish I would have gotten a picture, but it was gone before I even thought about it. Then the Carbonara which I can't recommend enough. What a find! This place was amazing. We didn't have a reservation but were happily seated very quickly. The place is cozy but not uncomfortably cozy. The staff was fantastic and very welcoming even though it was obviously a very busy Saturday evening dinner rush. The food was delicious. Had the ravioli, lamb cops, and tiramisu, with a complimentary limoncellos to wash it all down. They also gave us a free bottle of their house red as we were walking out. One of my best meals in Rome!! On my last night in Rome I was determined to eat one last bowl of pasta. I found this place on yelp and the reviews were good so I headed over. I was sad that although the photos seemed to show a patio, there were only a few chairs outside and no tables. Inside was packed and I waited just a short while for a table. I ordered some bread toasted with garlic, salt and pepper to start and the fettuccine funghi porcini. The bread was good but that pasta was amazing. I savored every last bite and made sure to tell the owner how much I enjoyed it and being that it was my last night in Rome, it was a perfect finish. I'm going to be dreaming of that pasta until I come back to Rome. I had strawberry tiramisu for dessert, which was delicious but different. After telling her that traditional tiramisu is my favorite dessert and maybe I should have that, she kindly brought me a small piece of the traditional along with the strawberry one I ordered, in honor of it being my last night she said. 3.5 The food was pretty good and the prices are very reasonable, but I tend to agree with some of the other reviews that this place has a little bit of an Americanized feel compared to some of the other highly rated restaurants we ate at in Rome. When we dined there, literally everyone else in the small restaurant was not only a tourist but specifically an American tourist, and the food (massive portions of pasta with heavy, creamy sauces) was more like what you'd get in a good Italian restaurant in the states than what Italians in Italy eat. We started with zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies and those were really excellent. Based on comments here, I asked about the black truffle ravioli with porcini cream even though it wasn't listed on the menu. Sure enough, she was able to make it and I had that as my entree. It was tasty but not life-changing. I had worse meals in Rome but I also had much better meals. I thought the service was fine, good even, but not as special as the glowing reviews indicate. I was a little annoyed that even though there were three tables for two along the back wall, we were seated in the middle, directly next to another couple (who proceeded to make awkward small talk with us for the whole meal) while the table on the other side of us remained empty until we were just about done with our meal. With three tables they should seat the first two couples on the ends and put the couple who arrived last in the middle. We followed the advice on Yelp and made reservations. We didn't see anyone get turned away, but it did seem like everyone being seated had made a reservation (even though the restaurant was not very full). read more

My husband and I were told about this wonderful gem while visiting Rome by some fellow tourists who stumbled upon it. The food - amazing, the service - outstanding, and the ambiance - very nice. Sadly, we had to wait a day to try it since they are closed on Wednesday's but easily made reservations for the following night. When we arrived they were buzzing with patrons. We decided to get the full Italian dinner since it was our last night. It was hard to not feel full but we stuck to it. The house wine was spectacular and on point. We got the prosciutto melone for an appetizer... I don't like melon but loved the combo! For first course pasta I got the special lasagna and it itched my craving perfectly. My husband got a spaghetti pasta with bacon and he didn't speak a word as he devoured it. For second course meat I got the chicken cattatorie and I couldn't stop eating it. My husband got the lamb that fell off of the bone. Sadly we had no room for desert but I insisted on taking my leftovers to eat for breakfast! This place is owned by two sisters... one cooks and another serves. There is a really sweet man that also helps serve the tables. It's a real family feel and they speak good English and Spanish if you don't know Italian. They do appreciate trying to speak in Italian though! For a highly rated restaurant, our experience was extremely disappointing. First off, the owner couldn't find our reservation, she had the wrong name, then stated that she had moved our reservation from 9p to 9:30p...we never recieved any note of this. By the way, the table that we sat at, was the same table that was empty and clear when we arrived. It remained empty until we sat in it 30 minutes later. Why make us wait when the table was clear the entire time? We sat down and service just kept getting worse. We drink a lot of water and asked for 3 bottles. The owner said "1 bottle, they're a liter each." ...and thats what we were brought. Why not just bring us the 3 liters we wanted? We're paying for it either way. The waiter, who ignored us the entire time, passed by. When we asked for a bottle of water, he put his hand up as if to say "wait" and walked to the back. When he came back to help other tables he told us "I'll help you later." Um...ok? When he finally stopped to see what we wanted he grunted at us and brought the bottle 5 minutes later. Finally, after having to listen to another diner spew hate against Americans, we get our food. I order the rabbit dish. Im sitting there enjoying my rabbit and the owner comes over and tells me I need to eat with my hands and that she will bring me a wet nap...wtf. Really lady? Literally no one else was doing that. Maybe Im not super fancy or whatever, but not once have I picked up my meal to eat with my hands in a restaurant. Im sure that would have been really hilarious to the American hating diner we had to listen to, but you know- I have basic life skills (like knowing how to use a fork and knife :O)! Not once did the waiter voluntarily stop by. In fact when I tried to get his attention, he literally side eyed me and walked to the kitchen. Had to ask for the check after sitting there with our take away boxes for 10 minutes. I asked for the check 3 additional times and still had to wait another 10 minutes. He was super attentive to the tabels around us though, they had full glasses and were asked how their food was. And the food, the rabbit was good, but the experience couldnt make it great or special. I love rich food, was totally expecting to love the ravioli with truffles. It tasted heavy and bland. I could tell it was cream heavy, but there was no flavor. The chicken breast my son had was good for chicken breast, they ran out of the roast chicken we originally wanted. In the end, we were left with a sour experience. What an incredible meal this was. By far our favorite spot in Rome. It's a small cozy place, the hostess is the owner and she's incredibly kind (helped me with my coat both getting in and leaving the restaurant). I ordered the carbonara and my boyfriend ordered the pesto with tomato based sauce (interesting combo indeed). They were both incredible. My carbonara was filling and absolutely delicious, the best carbonara I've ever had. And the pesto was absolutely amazing. Out of all the places I went on our Honeymoon to Italy, Spain, and France, taste wise, this i was the best meal of our entire trip. It was amazing! The Chicken Picatta that my wife got was so tasty and delicious. I love Spaghetti carbonara and this was the best Carbonara I have ever had in my life! I literally ate every bite and almost picked the plate up to lick it clean. I was so full and stuffed but it was worth every bite. It is a very small restaurant and there is almost no elbow room and the table are literally jammed into this small space, but the food is 100% worth it. The waitress could have been a little nicer but she can act however she wants to act as long as you keep making that Spaghetti Carbonara exactly how I ate it that day! La Botticella offers a quality, Roman-style dinner but avoid the dessert. We arrived at 8 PM and did not get a table until 9 PM as this place seemed quite popular. The restaurant is small: when we were finally seated, we were basically sitting at elbow-to-elbow with our neighbors. This doesn't bother us, but be warned if you enjoy privacy. The house red wine was cheap and tasty. The bruschetta antipasto was good, but our neighbor's caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella looked better. We also had the carciofi alla giudia (fried artichoke) platter, which was crisp and not too oily. For dinner, we ordered cacio e pepe and braised lamb. The pasta was light and tender, and the sauce was not too cheesy. The braised lamb was the big winner that night. It was a huge plate of lamb, which made it perfect for sharing, and it was cooked in a delicate wine-based sauce. The only disappointing part of the meal was dessert. We ordered panna cotta and the strawberry tiramisu. I'm not a big fan of panna cotta to begin with, but it was good for what it is. I was severely disappointed in the tiramisu after reading so many positive reviews. It was thick and too sweet, and the sauce was syrupy. At 7 euro per dessert, you're better off grabbing a gelato elsewhere. read more
