My first air balloon ride and I did it just right and in style. This about 2 hour ride was filled with breathtaking views and great narration by our 2 pilots. Our group was fun and entertained by all the sights and talk in the air. When we landed we were greeted with a champagne toast and beautiful picnic brunch. Just got off an awesome ride! Once you are up it is so quiet and so beautiful that you forget you are 7000 feet above ground! Our Capt. Bill had really cool stories to share about the dessert landscape and he was very witty. The landing was the funnest part filled with lots of action and a few scary moments! Nothing I wouldn't do again! The breakfast set was a great way for every passenger that just joined you in your adventure to talk about their experiences and get to know each other. My first balloon ride was with Hot Air Expeditions a few days ago so I have nothing to compare this company to, but my bucket list experience was everything I had hoped for. My friend and I had to meet them two days in a row because our initial flight was cancelled due to high winds. The second attempt was successful but during set-up, it was discovered that the balloon had a tear, so another rig was brought out for us. Yeah, we had to wait longer than everyone else and get up at 4am two mornings in a row, but that's the nature of this business and for those who complain about it should take a hard look at the miracle of flight and be grateful that this opportunity is accessible to us in the first place. The crew we dealt with was pretty friendly, especially considering how early they have to get up and how physically hard they work. Our Captain was Walter and the Crew Chief was Todd. Great guys. My friend felt that Walter was a little dramatic when landing and made her nervous because he thought out loud. Our landing was more challenging for him because we flew later in the morning, which is not his preference. As for myself, I was highly entertained by it and thought the whole landing process was a riot. I will add that it was incident free. It just took longer than usual because the weather is trickier as the day goes on. The ride itself is very serene and it's cool to see other balloons around you. The views are lovely, despite the fact that you're in the desert. The champagne breakfast at the end wraps things up nicely. I wasn't expecting them to bring picnic tables out so we could eat where we landed. so that was cool. The food was high quality and I'm not going to complain about being served mimosas at any time of the day. My only recommendation would be that the Captain initiate introductions amongst the people sharing a basket, as I think it would make things more comfortable for everyone right from the start. The basket is cozy so knowing the name of the person invading your space ahead of time would be nice. read more

We went on a sunrise expedition and the whether was a bit chilly. It was a clear skies with perfect weather condition. The meetup point is located in Deer Valley Airport parking lot. This is your first and last stop to use the restroom if you have to go. You're required to check in and he/she tells you which van you belong to. Once you're in the van, the people in the van with you are basically the people you'll be riding the hot air balloon with. Our driver was super funny and nice. Before we left Deer Valley Airport, he gave us a short background history how hot air balloon had started. As he reached closer to the hot air balloon destination, he gave us a brief instructions what to do and what not to do. Our Captain Bill was hiliarious and very nice. The view of Phoenix was amazing. We were so awe and wow by the view so high above. At one point, we descended down and cruised along the way as Bill described the different types of catus that can be found in AZ. We saw Jack Rabbits running around through the desert.... and off we went back high above. After the ride, we were served with breakfast and champagne. It was a nice touch to end the expedition. We were out in Scottsdale for a work trip and one of the adventures we could choose was hot air ballooning and we decided on that since we had a blast doing it before. Gary picked us up in the van bright and early and talk about someone with tons of energy. He helped everyone set up and literally ran from every space which was comical to watch except for the part that he almost got run over by another van. Our captain was Patrick and he was awesome. I'd highly recommend asking for him if you go out with Hot Air Expeditions. He was really funny and gave some great insight and history into the area. We ended up going up 9,000 feet which was pretty amazing. The breakfast afterwards was absolutely delicious as well. Highly recommended even just for that part of the adventure. read more

What can I say - my best friend came into town and I wanted to show him a few things unique to Phoenix. This was the last thing we did before he left for home and wow - did this blow both of our minds. Our captain was Tommy - talk about a fun, professional and entertaining pilot! He was very knowledgeable and happy to talk about the mechanics of piloting the balloon as well as to point out things to observe while in flight. We also topped the altimeter at around 6,900' - what a thrill!!! Thanks Tommy. Getting picked up at the airport and shuttled to the launch point, our driver was very friendly and cracked a few jokes to put people at ease and set the stage for a great time. Being able to watch the balloon fill up was very cool. The flight was amazing, great for photos. If you don't like heights . . .. rethink this plan of yours. The breakfast at the end was just a perfect way to finish off a great morning. The team who took care of use were very friendly and incredibly hospitable. I can recommend them enough. Was very disappointed. Hot Air Expeditions was a NO-SHOW! Reservations made for wife's birthday. Excitedly arrived 45 minutes prior to launch at Deer Valley airport only to receive the call the ride is cancelled due to...winds? Understandably would not want to launch if winds are high or forecast to be an issue. My concern with this is that I'm an aviator with 35 years experience with thousands of hours and a 3-5 knot wind is not a reason to cancel. This company could not fill their coffers on this particular day thus they decided to cancel the event. Appreciate ruining the birthday celebration... We booked the sunrise balloon ride for my husband's 50th birthday. We were told to be there by 6 a.m. Our driver arrived and began having us fill out paperwork. Then, 11 of us piled into the bus and we waited... and waited... and waited to go. Apparently, we were waiting on two people that were supposedly running about 10 min late. This was frustrating because wanted the "sunrise" balloon ride. After 15 minutes of waiting (and watching other balloons go up in time) the whole bus was becoming upset. FINALLY at 6:30 we left for the launch site without the two late customers (they did show up in a separate shuttle just in time to ride the balloon). I was really disappointed that they sacrificed a sunrise experience for 11 people to wait for two people to get there in time. No apologies or anything from the company. However, I would give 5 stars to our pilot, "Hee-Haw". He was amazing!!! He was funny and entertaining. He took time to show us the beautiful scenery and explain things to us. What a cool experience, the worst thing about it was when we landed and it was over. The time in air promise was one hour, and we were flying for bout 1 hour and 40 min, which was even better. This is a must if you are visiting or even local to Arizona! We did the sunrise launch which is at 5:45am and they also have a sunset launch as well. We went as a group of six and it was a fun experience for the whole family. We arrived at the location and got to watch the flight crew preparing our balloon. That was such an incredible experience in itself. To say the balloon is enormous is an understatement. It was as large as a house if not bigger! There about 20 people total in the basket. We thought we would need to dress extra warm but with the heat going into the balloon, it definitely was warm up there. We were in the air for at least an hour. What a beautiful view and an amazing perspective. We were able to capture amazing photos of the group, views and of the dozens of balloons launching and in the background. It's about $200 a person, they do have Groupons but we couldn't get the day we wanted so bought regular tickets. While you are in the air it's like time stopped. You don't feel movement at all yet you're a few thousand feet up! It's kinda surreal! Afterwards we landed in a beautiful field and the crew followed us on ground in the vans that brought us to our original location. They communicated with our captain the entire time by walkie talkies judging wind, location, and approximately where we would land. This way they could prepare for the landing. It was neat that we glided slowly to the ground and landed very calmly. The crew then prepared a champagne breakfast with quiche, croissants, fruit and cheese and lots of champagne. They had tables with table clothes and cloth napkins with real silverware and balloon printed China. I thought it was a very fun and unique touch. I mean they were already following our balloon by radio (which they can drift very far away depending on wind) yet it was all so perfect and well put together. It was so peaceful to be eating in the middle of the desert in a field surrounded by gorgeous cactus and just enjoy family and friends. It was a great experience from start to finish. Total from the time we arrived to the time we were brought back was about 4-5 hours. Tip for those looking to go on this. When they offer to take everyone to the station before heading to the location to use the restroom, DO IT. There's obviously no bathroom in the balloon or wherever your balloon lands! So you have to wait until they bring you back to the station. You get water bottles during the balloon ride. read more

We received a friendly greeting at the airfield by Alex , he was very informative and took our temperature contactless as per Covid 19 regulations , he also gave us a Balloon face mask to use and offered us water . When all party members were checked in we we're driven to the Balloon launch site approximately 20 minutes away. Along the ride Alex informed us about what the experience would be like and what to expect . Upon arrival we met Mike England the Balloon pilot and his crew . We watched the balloon inflation and were given another lesson on what to expect on lift off and how to prepare to land . We lifted off and from start to finish Captain England was giving information on what we were seeing and the history of the Sonoran desert below us . This was hands-down the most remarkable experience ever!!! HAE picked me up from my hotel and returned me safely. every one was super friendly and it made for a relaxing vibe. I took the sunrise ride up and we stayed up for nearly an hour and a half. It was serene, calm and breathtaking! We landed in another random desert spot and a van drove to us. Had a great time hot air ballooning. It is pretty early (we had the 6:45am sunrise trip) but watching the sun rise was amazing. Our driver (Jim) was awesome and gave us snippets of Arizona history as we were driving by. Our ride did go a little over the full hour since there was some issues finding a good landing spot. The food was pretty good, but I wish there was an option for just the ride at a reduced price so we can go earlier and grab food elsewhere in the city while we were exploring. read more
